DESCRIPTION
Feeling that datapads, like Pan-Galactic Power's DTX Infomaster series, were both too bulky and inconvenient to carry around and severely outdated, the upstart tech company Pear Galactic, devised a hybridized device that effectively combined the features of a datapad, camera, holoprojector, and comlink all at once.

The new PGC-2021 touchpad dataphone, shortened to "Pear Phone" by the general public, is a communication device capable of long-range communication via the HoloNet, making it more convenient than a short range comlink. Text messaging features also allow Pear Phone users to communicate non-verbally when the situation requires. The phone features a high-resolution camera with recording functions on both the upper-front and back side of the device. Next to the camera is a small node that allows the phone' user to project images or video a small, grainy hologram if necessary. It also features a microphone and receiver for phone calls and recording voice memos—a favorite of galactic reporters the galaxy 'round.

Additionally, Pear Galactic operates an application store, allowing customers to customize their experience with games, HoloNet browsers, weather-tracking, and other useful features. Some galactic entities can commission private apps for their own use—such as access to valuable company archives or databases, allowing their employees to use the device for work purposes. But this also means that there are black market app stores that permit the device to download outlawed apps.

Aside from its use as a communication device, the Pear Phone works perfectly as a portable datapad, capable of storing digitized documents, which can then be sent over the HoloNet or via text message. Information can also be read on the phone or saved from onto a datacard so as not to use up the phone's limited internal storage. The phone features a touch screen which becomes like transparent glass when turned off, making it far more useful than the touchball-controlled screens of most common datapads. A separate screen along the top of the phone displays the time: either the local time, Galactic Standard Time (GST), or both. But the phone's major quality of life feature is its size. Pear Phones are handsized (and can have their size customized depending on the species), designed to be handheld, and can be easily stored in a pocket, unlike most conventional datapads.

Because of their numerous high-end features, Pear Phones are considerably more expensive than the average datapad. However, most working adult beings can afford one without breaking the bank.

LEGALITY
Legal. Though some governments or companies might have internal restrictions on where and how a phone can be used, as well as what apps it is legally allowed to have on it.

INTENT
Lots of RPs mention phones and texting. Thought it might be cool to have a write-up that actually lays out what these devices can do, since it does make sense that the galaxy, at this point, would have moved beyond bulky datapads.
