Max had told his allies on Eriadu that he was going to go to Coruscant and here he was back on the city planet that he disliked so much. It was hardly his favourite place in the Galaxy at least - he didn't dislike it so much as he just didn't want to try and understand and adapt to it. He was glad that the Jedi no longer had a temple on the planet because if they did he would never actually spend any time there.

He didn't know much about the investigation into Oren himself but he knew that some other Jedi were to be dispatched to Coruscant to present themselves to try and discuss the situation. Potentially speak to Oren as well but it was unclear.

If Oren was being treated as a murderer then visitation would be something they could swing.

If he was being held as a terrorist then things would be far more complicated.

As he had been landing on Coruscant he had sent a message to @Kal Zyn Dross - a sector ranger he had actually worked with in the past. Their interaction had very much been a case of a Jedi assisting a sector ranger rather than some warrior monk taking justice into his own hands and he hoped Kal would trust him enough to meet. For once, Max had brought his lightsaber in full view of the public... kind of.

It was disassembled on the table in front of him in the outside area of the cafe he was waiting for Kal at, the parts looking nothing like a lightsaber so, thankfully, he looked little like a Jedi.

That Max had decided to reach out to him before Kal could contact the man himself spoke well for his character, something he'd gotten a taste of when they had worked together before. The man had seemed sensitive, remorseful that life had been lost and, while unwilling to start violence, wasn't opposed to using force only to subdue, not to kill. He definitely didn't seem like one of these new 'Red Sabers' that Ranger Aran had talked about in the recent broadcast, yet he still couldn't be too trusting. There was just too much they didn't know, and even though Kal had done some studying about the order, it was by far incomplete. He hoped to fill in his knowledge today, if possible.

Arriving at the cafe, the Tiss'Sharl stopped to stare at the disassembled lightsaber on the table. He knew what it was the second he sw it, part because of the general shape the parts were arranged and part because he recognized a fair amount of the electronics and knew what they would do. He was already fascinated to see one of these weapons up close, as well as internally. This was starting to turn out to be a wise meeting, indeed. Before sitting he extended his hand to shake Max's, as there had been no reason for him to start treating the man rudely or coldly. He was just cautious and extremely curious to details that just a short while ago hadn't been at the top of his priorities to find out. He wouldn't let anything slip away now, though, so he took out his communicator to record their conversation. He did it in view of Max and would respond to any objections if needed.

"Hey, Max, thanks for asking me to come see you. I know things have been tough recently. Hell, most of the galaxy's heads are spinning from how fast this whole 'Arcanist' and 'Red Saber' thing has been going. I've been doing what I can to find out the truth, Chief has as many hands on deck for this as possible." He sat down, ordering the drinks and paying for them himself. He was a a gracious guest, after all. "I apologize if I cut right to the chase but time is a bit short. Every day these murderers run loose the more the people we're supposed to protect get more and more scared. It's the Ranger's job to keep the peace, so we need to not only catch these guys but learn as much as we can to try to prevent them from being threats again. Nip a problem in the bud. So, if it's fine with you, I've got some questions I'd like to ask." It wasn't a request, more a statement to set the tone of the conversation. He really didn't want to seem rude or mean, but as he was here on official capacity there was a kind of protocol he had to follow. The Jedi may have been the law once, but now that duty belonged to the Sector Rangers. They'd have to follow Ranger law and procedures, which may have been why the Jedi had been getting into such trouble recently.

Seemed that Kal knew what the parts made up.

Good idea thing in his opinion actually - meant that the law enforcement were actually being trained to spot Force Users even when they were trying to blend in. He tinkered with some of the parts, forming some harmlessly little trinkets with them so that they were even further away from being a lightsaber. He would have to disassemble half a dozen little toys and then reassemble the lightsaber entirely if he was going to use it.

Which would leave him more than wide open should Kal decide he was a danger to the public.

He shook the ranger's hand with a smile and gestured for him to take a seat before ordering himself a coffee and making sure Kal got a chance to place his own order as he did so. The way that Kal spoke might have been a touch closer to blunt than he had been previously but it was far from rude.

"Of course Kal."
he agreed immediately, "I'm happy to help with the investigation in anyway that I can. You can ask me anything you'd like and I'll answer you openly and honestly with all that I know."

Max grinned a little bit before sliding his kyber crystal across the table for Kal to take.

"... saw you eyeing that by the way. Take a closer look - they're beautiful aren't they?"

While Max never seemed one to be wasting time joking around or speaking a whole lot of nothing, this direct approach and willingness to answer any questions as honestly as he could was a good sign. Kal found himself relaxing a little bit at this, though not fully. He couldn't afford to, not even with potential friends, if word from up high was right. Shadowy enemies skilled with disguises...With these strange powers, could they even look like friends? Loved ones. No, he had to nip that series of thoughts in the bud. Paranoia and anxiety would just hinder him right now, so he would trust his analytical mind and gut.

"I will admit, I recognized most of what you have here from reports and just general electrical knowledge. A bit thing I don't know, though, is the purpose of this...crystal." Kal picked it up, looking at it closely as he turned it in his fingers. It was beautiful...And different. There was something...odd, about this crystal. He just couldn't quite put his finger on it.. "I've never seen anything of it's like...Do you mind if I take pictures of these pieces? And I'll have some questions about it, too. These devices seem pretty complex, do you have someone who makes them for you, a specialist in this sort of thing? Do you have any other weaponry you use? Have you checked to see if these weapons are legal in Alliance space?" The last question was a grey area, as when he had looked at the law prior to this meeting it hadn't mentioned anything about these...lightsabers. It should be common sense that anything that could cut through metal like butter should be regulated, tracked, but the law was strangely non-specific about these. He could be sure, though, that at least SOMEONE was going to be looking over for possible changes.

The kyber crystal.

So many of the Galaxy's denizens had seen the worst that they could do. They had witnessed the power that they had wielded in the way the Death Stars had shaped the Galaxy through a concentration of said power. But so few people knew that the same thing that powered lightsabers had been used to such a devastating effect against the Galaxy when it had been held to ransom by a pair of the most powerful Sith to have ever lived.

"A kyber crystal."
he named the component with a smile, "You can take pictures or readings off it if you'd like. To those without the Force it can focus great power. To those with the Force? It kind of... resonates with us. Harmonizes with us and let's us harness it in the form of the lightsaber."

He grinned.

"We make them ourselves, almost like a rite of passage really. Helps that if something goes wrong with it every Jedi should know how to repair their own tool."
he admitted before shaking his head, "No, I rarely use that at all. If combat is unavoidable I much prefer to use my fists, the Force and a stun baton. Far less... final, if you get my meaning?"

"You never did seem to like any kind of violence..." Kal put down the crystal, giving it back to Max while he recorded and documented all the different parts of the lightsaber. "What determines the color? We've seen videos of all different colors of these sabers, are there different hues of crystal? Do they have any meaning, or are they just what you can grab first?" He was just as curious personally as he was for his job, thankful that both could be satisfied with this meeting. Just the information on lightsabers alone could be useful.

"I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I've been curious about this for a while now. The Force, as it's called. I know we talked a bit about it last time, but now I think you can understand that we need to know more about it. What exactly can it do? You could pick up memories, I remember that. Can it lift things? Create lightning from one's fingers? Is there anything it CAN'T do?" This would be an incredibly important part of the interview.

Taking the crystal back, Max just held it in the palm of his hand, closing his hand around it. To someone bonded to it through the Force, a kyber crystal could be of great comfort. It was like holding onto something that was at once part of you and part of something so infinitely greater than you.

It was a humbling yet comforting experience in his eyes.

"Violence is a tool to be used sparingly - when all others have failed in my opinion. We should escalate in response to further dangers rather than starting out at our maximum level of response."
he decided before chuckling slightly, "The color? Some people say they have meanings but I'm not sure if that's not just the ancient texts or not. But when a Jedi bonds with their crystal the color is decided between the Jedi and the Force... I got green and I love it."

He breathed out a sigh of air as he thought about it for a long moment.

"The Force's capabilities are... numerous. But to a Jedi they fall into two main categories; what it can do and what it should do."
he spoke softly, looking far away for a moment, "A Force user can urge the Force to lift things, to communicate telepathically, to heal, to see the past of objects and to guide our movements during battle. But it can do more. If you corrupt it, if you pervert it, you can use it to harm, to generate lightning, to drain the life from people and to twist people and planets in ways that nature should forbid... that's what the Sith and those who use the Dark Side do. The Jedi, we stay away from anything close to that and they embrace it."

Pausing for a moment, he held his hand out, palm up, and began to mold an illusion using the Force. In the palm of his hand, hidden from view by his body so that only Kal could see it, Ranger Aran from the announcement before twirled in his hand dressed as a ballerina before disappearing. He winked playfully at Kal.

"Makes for some good party tricks too."

Some levity might help after the discussion about the Dark Side.

The image created made Kal laugh, but he managed to turn it into a cough into his coffee to try to save face. It would be very awkward if Trys found out about this, though to him it was hilarious. Something about what Max had said, though, stuck with him in his mind. Corrupted? It made sense that just about anything could be corrupted, but for something of such apparent power to be twisted, and with those kinds of effects...He had to know more. There was a lot he had to know more about. To be honest, he really wanted to know more about the ancient texts that the man had mentioned, wondering if the Jedi had their own archives...wherever they were found.

"What is this...corruption? If you Jedi all use the Force, does that mean there's a part of the Jedi that is also corrupted by this? Is that what these 'Sith' are?" He has so many questions all of a sudden. "Manipulating people...What do you mean, it can twist people? Damn it, I feel so damn ignorant..." He slams a fist on the table, frustrated that there's so much he doesn't know but NEEDS to, people's lives were at stake. "Our archives have nothing on the Jedi or their powers, if I had access to something like that..." He was speaking more to himself, though out loud.

Ah to explain the great mysteries of the Force... it was something that Max had never really considered as being something of an option really. Half the Galaxy were against the very idea of the Force and most of the rest wanted to see some kind of proof. But how did you explain something like the Force to someone who had never felt it?

He ran a hand through his hair and stared off to the side for a moment.

"There is only the Force. The Light and the Dark Sides of the Force are created by people; the Light is it in it's natural state and is how a Jedi uses it. The Dark Side is what happens when a Sith from the past would twist the nature of the Force itself to bend to their wishes."
he grimaced, "The Sith are the Old Enemy. Darth Vader. Kylo Ren. Emperor Palpatine. They feed on pain and misery and death, use it to power themselves... they are everything that a Jedi is not but they are so similar in many ways."

Max frowned.

"They fight as we fight, with the lightsaber. The Sith, the Old Enemy, are a reminder that evil comes from abusing the Force."
he told Kal before humming, "Shame I didn't bring a holocron actually - they tend to have a lot more data."

"Those are some big names you're dropping..." Kal's head was spinning, trying to take this all in. It was like a puzzle that had pieces that seemed like they'd be impossible to fit together. The more he learned, the less it made sense, but he was feeling that there was indeed something far more in action going on than just what Suspect One was doing. "Holocron...I don't know what word. What's a Holocron? Some kind of archive?" Perhaps he could convince this man to let him view a Holocron, if he could. It might be a quicker way to gain information.

It was hard to explain what a holocron was really.

Even if he unlocked one right here and now for Kal to look at, parts of it would be lost on him purely because he wasn't able to sense the Force in the way a Jedi or a Sith could. It wasn't great for Kal but it was just one of those facts about the Galaxy that were just unfair and never able to be changed.

Rubbing at his beard a little bit, he thought aloud.

"Perhaps I can get some access to the archives we have at the Temple..."
he mused before nodding towards Kal, "Might even be able to get you permission to come along with me."

He grinned.

"If your superiors would let you walk into the den of Jedi of course."

Through everything he had been hearing, taking in as many details as possible, the thought of going to the world the Jedi called home and accessing their archives directly. Kal had to calm himself down, thinking he was getting let in on a treasure trove of information, perhaps enough to finally start putting some of the pieces of this damned puzzle together. He had to keep himself professional, though, as his superiors would not like him acting like a kid in a candy shop, not on this serious of a case. He cleared his throat, using his willpower to contain himself.

"If you could get us some access to your world, to learn from your archives or lorekeepers directly, then that would help in the investigation. It would help put a lot of things in perspective, I think." He started to type up a proposal to put towards Ranger HQ. If he brought along some other Rangers, especially those active in the investigation, he figured he could get approval pretty quick. "I'm sorry if I'm imposing or anything, I just...Want to stop all this chaos, or try to. People deserve to be able to walk down the street without worry of being zapped or stabbed to death just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Max could feel the excitement at work within Kal and it was amusing to him to see the usually rather stoic and reserved Ranger open up emotionally about the Jedi. Of course he doubted that any ranger outside of Kal was really going to be quite so openly, so earnestly, excited about going to the Jedi Temple for pure-hearted reasons.

The truth was that he knew that if any other rangers took up the opportunity they would likely be using it to investigate the Jedi further, maybe even look for weaknesses. But Max wasn't too worried about that. Seeing the Temple and the people there? He was confident that even the most ardent critics of the Jedi Order would see that they had no designs on power or control and that they were more responsible than recent events had made them out to be.

Collecting all the pieces of his lightsaber, Max put them away in a satchel bag and stood. He patted Kal on the shoulder gently.

"We find ourselves in troublesome times Kal and in need of some understanding; I hope that some of your people will come with you and we can spread that between our two groups."
he smiled, "Try the coffee here, it is divine. Until next we meet Kal Dross."
