He was warm.
That was all she could think in the space of time it took for him to cup her cheek; for just a moment, her eyes closed into the radiant warmth, the pulse threading just beneath her own palm, which had slid down slightly from his jaw, to lightly press fingertips to the curve of his throat. At first, his words didn't register, she was still for once and her mind was just as still.
Her eyes opened once again, to meet his calmly. He was so young; she felt like she would stifle that youthfulness somehow, drain him of that genuine warmth he contained. How long could he be around her before she would see him alter, change... and how reluctant she was to drag him into her own world. And yet he stood here, wanting her. Wanting her, above anything else tonight.
Golden eyes blinked once, but then... they warmed ever so slightly.
She pressed a kiss lightly to his own lips, eyes half-shuttered when she did. When she parted, her voice was soft, a hair's bredth away from his own.
"Thought you'd never ask, cowboy," came the hushed reply, hand still resting on his jaw. She was up on her toes, leaning fully into him with that affirmation. She didn't ask for anything beyond tonight either; it was the best promise she could give for now. She didn't hold faith in the future, but perhaps, just maybe, she could find a little with him for the night.
