He was warm.

That was all she could think in the space of time it took for him to cup her cheek; for just a moment, her eyes closed into the radiant warmth, the pulse threading just beneath her own palm, which had slid down slightly from his jaw, to lightly press fingertips to the curve of his throat. At first, his words didn't register, she was still for once and her mind was just as still.

Her eyes opened once again, to meet his calmly. He was so young; she felt like she would stifle that youthfulness somehow, drain him of that genuine warmth he contained. How long could he be around her before she would see him alter, change... and how reluctant she was to drag him into her own world. And yet he stood here, wanting her. Wanting her, above anything else tonight.

Golden eyes blinked once, but then... they warmed ever so slightly.

She pressed a kiss lightly to his own lips, eyes half-shuttered when she did. When she parted, her voice was soft, a hair's bredth away from his own.

"Thought you'd never ask, cowboy," came the hushed reply, hand still resting on his jaw. She was up on her toes, leaning fully into him with that affirmation. She didn't ask for anything beyond tonight either; it was the best promise she could give for now. She didn't hold faith in the future, but perhaps, just maybe, she could find a little with him for the night.

Time agonizingly ticked by after Corran's plea. Ilana didn't immediately reply. Her eyes remained hidden and she didn't move. In the back of his mind, the young man worried that he had finally over-played his hand. The luck had run out. He didn't dare move, awaiting the answer of the silent beauty. When the golden irises appeared, the Ranger held his breath. They looked calm. That was a good start. With an elegant flutter of her lashes, the amber eyes took on a comforting gleam - warm like a low-burning fire. Without a word, Ilana's full lips danced across his. It was as welcome as it was surprising. As she pulled away, Corran's held breath left his lungs in an easing of tension.

The way she leaned into him, standing on her toes, holding onto each other this way. It was a certain expression of trust. An openness that wasn't there before. A grin of relief worked up to the corners of his mouth. It didn't matter what they did tonight. Or what they didn't do. On a dangerous world, on a lawless moon, they had each other and Corran felt a comforting satisfaction in that. It would be nice until the sun rose. Fate had brought them together twice now. Even if she was gone by morning, he had a feeling he would see Dr. Ilana Morata again.

Cowboy. Heh. That was a nickname he could get use to.
