DESCRIPTION​

The Panopticon-class command frigate is a powerful weapon system wielded by Sith fleets. Designed as a flagship, the Panopticon is intended primarily to function as the seat from which powerful Sith Lords direct fleet battles, planetary assaults and other military engagements, aided by cutting-edge information technology and surroundings designed to encourage the use of the Dark Side of the Force.

Being a command ship, the Panopticon is not really intended to fight, but is equipped with a number of weapons. These include a suite of 20 casemate-mounted autoblasters, positioned 10 on each side, meant to provide a curtain of anti-aerospace fire which will shoot down small craft. 4 dual medium laser turrets are also present, 2 aft and 2 forward, providing a more general range of protection. These weapons are not especially useful against other capital ships, with their heavy armor and shields, but are more than adequate against starfighters, starbombers and light freighters.

The Panopticon carries a compliment of up to 12 starfighters for defense and long-range strike capability, plus up to 2 shuttles which can be used for general liaison and transport work. Many Sith military commanders will use the Panopticon's fighter capacity to carry their own "personal" squadron's craft; as such, these vessels are often equipped with opulent "ready rooms" and other facilities for the use of the flight crews, usually far more luxurious than is standard in much of the Imperial Navy.

Finally, the meat of the Panopticon's combat capability are its enormously powerful sensors, comm gear and data processing facilities. All Panopticons are equipped with a cathedral-like "battle gallery," located in the large dorsal structure toward the stern of the ship, which not only includes a panorama of large transparisteel viewports, but also a suite of holographic display systems which can project any tactical information a commander could conceivably desire. This information is collected, curated and continuously analyzed by an Andraste IX battle analysis computer, which can project likely outcomes of command decisions and provide tactical advice; most commanders tend to find this system irritating, however, and order its vocabulator circuits disconnected.

Being intended as the flagships of Sith Lords, and thus an embodiment of the principles of the Dark Side, Panopticon-class command frigates are designed with an intimidating, somewhat sinister appearance, both externally and internally. Their hulls are Gothic in appearance, fitted with ornamental barbs and spars, with the entire vessel finished in dark, glossy metal. Internal illumination tends to be yellow or red. Of course, as these vessels are used by high-ranking Sith, most examples of this class are customized to suit the taste of the commanders.

Panopticon-class frigates serve in most Sith fleets, and is considered a valuable part of Sith tactical doctrine. The mere appearance of this ship on the battlefield can strike a serious blow to enemy morale.

Restricted. Understandably, Panopticon-class vessels are classified as capital warships, and thus are illegal for private ownership in most civilized systems.
