"Rialdo." The world was a cold place. Kaven Rickert leaned against the balcony overlooking the city below. His unkempt hair spread around his shoulders in the breeze, partially obscuring his eyes, smoldering coals in the shadows. His body was tense, his grip on the railing unforgiving. The man next to him took it all in stride, his gaze flickering between neutrality and pity.

"My daughter is gone," Kaven said. His slow, measured breaths were that of a man struggling to keep his anger at bay. Even with the effort, his composure was beginning to crack.

"I know," his companion said.

"I want her back." The wind coughed in the distance.

"I know."

"If anyone ever learns that my daughter has run away, it will be the end of Maria's political career. Her rivals will say that we drove our daughter from our home, and her popularity will dwindle. She has held her congressional chair for eighteen years. Eighteen years! She has served nine terms as a Senator, more than most serve over the course of their lives..." Kaven trailed off, spluttering in anger.

"I know." Rialdo's flat eyes gazed up at the sky.

"That's why you're here."

"I know."

"Find my daughter and bring her back. I don't care how you do it, just make it happen!" Kaven snarled.

"I will," Rialdo said. "And when I do, all debts between us are absolved. Understood?"

"Fine. But if this ever gets out..."

"Enough." Rialdo stepped forward. "Your anger is understandable, but do not ever threaten me again. I know my job, and I will do it."

"Just bring her back to me," Kaven whispered. "Please."

The shuttle door opened and I almost fell through. People in dirty clothes pushed and shoved to get out, as if being the first person out meant being the best or something. I didn't know why until I got out. There were lights everywhere. Blue, red, green, yellow, pink, orange, purple... It didn't look like night at all. And all of the people! I thought the shuttle had been crowded, but there were thousands of people all around. Most of them had little bags like me and they were walking like they knew where they were going.

I envied them for that. I just left home, and I actually dreaded taking another step. But it was too late to go back. My ticket was one way. Besides, I didn't really want to go back to my parents' estates. It was so boring there. Everyday was the same. Sit down with tutors for hours on end in the morning, wait for daddy to get home, and then go out to the latest dinner party with all of the other rich families. The parties were okay sometimes, I guess. Sometimes I'd get to talk to a cute guy for a little while, but even then they were boring. Always the same act too...

Anyway, the lights filled my head more than my eyes. It wasn't that they were blinding or anything, but rather they looked so dreamy. All of the lights were so bright, and they lit up these signs that hung everywhere. I'd never seen anything like it before. There were even these little stands that sold something called "fast food." It smelled absolutely disgusting!

I felt lost in the crowd as I walked. There were so many different kinds of people all around me. Aliens and humans, all walking together. It was like a low class version of the waiting room outside of the congressional building on Corellia. I mean, really, didn't these people know anything about the latest fashions? I saw a couple of women walking around with their hair pinned to keep it off their neck! And the dresses...! Don't even get me started. Not to mention the dirt and grime covering some of their faces. Unless that was supposed to be makeup. If so, then it wasn't anything I'd ever seen. Gross.

For a little while I completely forgot that I left everything I knew behind. Everything was fresh, new, and it was hard to remember to feel nervous. Maybe I was hiding from the nervousness so I wouldn't regret it. My parents must have been worried. I mean, I was their only daughter, and I only left a little note to explain why I had left. Maybe I shouldn't have left after all...

Well, I didn't exactly know where I was going. Before leaving I took a bunch of money out of my trust fund, but I didn't think about where I was going. I kind of hoped that I could just go out and have an adventure like you see on HoloNet. Something would happen and I would sweep in to save the day. There would be treasure everywhere, people would call me a hero, and my parents would smile proudly. The glamor wore off pretty quickly after I got off the shuttle.

I walked with the crowd, following the biggest throng of people wherever they were going. I couldn't sleep in the spaceport, so I needed to figure out where the heck I was going. Unfortunately, I didn't know much about Coruscant except all of the things that happened to it throughout history. I could tell you about all of the wars waged on Coruscant, for Coruscant, and because of Coruscant, but I couldn't tell you where the nearest hotel was. Kind of sad, actually.

Anxiousness started rising in my stomach again like angry butterflies. I didn't know where I was going. I didn't know what I was going to do. I didn't know anyone. I wanted to go back to the shuttle and demand that they take me home. If they said no I would shout at them until they acquiesced. Or at least let me call my parents to prove it. If Maria Castelle, Senator of Corellia told them to take me home, they would. Even if I didn't want to. Suddenly, going back didn't seem as appealing as it had before.

The crowd dispersed on some sort of platform. Speeders were coming up and the people got in as if they were getting into a limo. Except, these things were so small. They could barely fit four people comfortably, and the drivers weren't even wearing uniform. Most of them were either painted yellow or black—some of the most jarring, unappealing colors invented. One of them pulled up next to me, and the window started to roll down.

"Need a ride?" the driver asked, opening the doors to his speeder. I got in, not really knowing what else to do. It was cramped and smelled like sweat. The seats were soft at least, even if they were dirty. My heart was in my chest when the doors closed.

"Where're you going?"

"I..." I didn't know. "Um, where's the best place to stay?" That seemed appropriate.

"If you're looking for a hotel, the Excelsior is the best around. It's pretty far, but I hear it's good. Nice rooms, good food, and great service. It's a bit pricey though. Maybe you want something cheaper?"

"No, no," I said quickly. "That sounds pretty cool. Take me there... and step on it!"
