Post in contention: link

Considering the [cartel] decided to no longer accept the agreement we made in discord, this report was unfortunately inevitable.

Darasuum asked me what floor the Imperial players were on and I told him that he could place us there where we could -finally- start the PvP. He made no mention that he believed we were already in PvP nor had he made it clear his attack on the building was an attack on the characters inside said building. No tags, no discord FYI. I believe he should have at least notified us the moment it was OOCly clear his post was too vague for us to consider it any sort of attack on the present PCs. He proceeded to use the positioning leeway I gave him to autohit.

I accepted that autohit initially on two conditions. The one below is the one relevant here. The other was @Rimrald's character being to exit the thread unscathed.

1) Based on the discord convo and message:

Nor'baal — 11/13/2023 10:51 PM
Marvellous
You know what fine. let's get this moving. We win the planet does indie. We lose monké go to jail.
Monké fight. Monké win (maybe?)
Die Shize — 11/13/2023 10:53 PM
Yeah I’m in agreement with that

Thank you, Norbs.

In the above excerpt we had discussed the fact that the total invasion force on the ground in this thread was four. Three PC characters and a single NPC. Nor'baal stated he did not plan to provide any kind of invasion force c.q. faction assets. I argued that storywise this didn't make much sense and we have several Imperial players who were discouraged to participate because a mere PVP -which was supposed to be optional in their minds- trumps writing a story that made sense to them, at least logically.

The above reason already caused several OOC fights spread out over all these invasion threads. All with the same disconnect based on uncollaborative views and perspectives. In an effort to move everyone passed this growing toxicity I wished to end this thread quickly with an outcome that had something for both sides; cartel wins the fight and bragging rights, but would not take a planet inside Core Imperial Territory without devoting faction assets to it.

I'm not a fan of having to post a thread like this, but at this point I feel forced to ask [Staff] to take a look at the thread, the players, their behavior (including my own) and the discord OOC channel. More concreet: I'd like staff to rule on the following:

1) Rule on whether #7 is an attack on player characters. Note that the post ends with "Anywhere else in the building they would still feel the shaking and rumbling of the approaching threat as it came closer with each moment." This is the part we deemed relevant to our characters.

2) Rule on whether it would be considered an autohit because @Eccles and @Rimrald (posts #10 and #12) did not address it as an attack on their characters.

3) Whether this Invasion thread and its premise should be enough to justify it changing hands to the faction that hired the invading thread participants.

I regret this has become necessary and I'd like to thank staff in advance for their time and effort to review the above.

@Sreeya @Nor'baal @Pantor @Rimrald @Die Shize @Javier esschoolbus

Thank you for putting this up @Eccles - it is very helpful.

My objection to the agreement reached is that it overrules established convention on invasion threads, namely that invasions result in planets/territory changin hands. Whilst Eccles is correct that there was a comment made by me in OOC to state this would be fine, it was done under the general frustration that, in the majority of invasion threads thus far, there has been an unwillingness (in my view) to see these threads for what they are - invasions in a war, whilst can and will result in losses of player characters, factional assets, and territory.

Eccles assessment of faction assets being deployed are accruate.

This thread is an attack by mercenaries retained by the Hutt Cartel, the objective being to take the planet for their employer. They have not been assigned an army, or assets in any way, by the Hutt Cartel.

In my view the issue is quite cut and dry - the faction that wins an invasion thread, wins the planet that they are invading, for the faction they are invading on behalf of.

We have already made allowances, beyond what I consider the norm, for the Empire in this war. It should not be on Hutt Cartel players to make special arrangements for the Empire to make up for the imperial 'lack of preparedness' in a war. We declared war when the Empire was in dissarray for a reason - because we would have the advantage - an advantage that I fear is being taken away by OOC disagreements and 'haggling'.

My desired outcome is that, if the Hutts win this invasion, they take the planet - I have no other requests.

So I think this is where the issue lies. A few PCs can take a planet, but they're usually acting on behalf of a faction and faction assets. It's understood that there is a military backing in place to hold a planet. If this is literally just those mercenary PCs, that's enough to do a raid and a strike but it's not enough to hold a planet. @Nor'baal you will need to commit resources to this attack to hold it.

If the mercs win the thread, but couldn't hold the planet, I suppose we could send a force to hold it - but after the invasion was won?

This is correct. To hold it is where you need to invest assets or pay for a force to occupy.

Ka'ra'yc has successfully taken Korda Six in a previous invasion. Would he be able to bring more of the military (or equivalent) to Murkhana to defend it? This might mean it is technically a Guerrilla Group world and not a Hutt planet but that might just be a manner of proxy. It's just a suggestion to hopefully make things easier in the end for everyone. (Hopefully Ka'ra'yc and GG will be compensated appropriately for this though ;-) )

That's fine with me. Mercs are paid to take the world, not to hold it. Hutt army will arrive once the hard work is done.

In a one-two punch Ka had made an opening directly in the center of the building. Those inside would have to defend from the middle of their building and the outside. Those directly beneath the blasts ran the risk of getting vaporized, crushed under debris or getting fragged by shrapnel. Anywhere else in the building they would still feel the shaking and rumbling of the approaching threat as it came closer with each moment.

Aside from a bunker the top middle of a building is traditionally the safest place to be. It's also an office of the ambassador of the planet. Usually imperials like to place themselves above their subordinates to a literal degree. But since Eccles did not want to have multiple rounds of NPCs I didn't want to put him and everyone a few stories underground nor be blamed for cornering them later on especially when " Not even Darth Vader -a Sith Lord or something from almost two centuries ago- would've been able to get through to the Ambassador's office unscathed. "

Autohit due to unaddressed attack. With Vena, Otto and ambassador all being around one another and assumed to be in the ambassador's office they would be inside the room as it gets blown up with a thermal detonator from outside and then filled with a frag grenade.

Autohit due to poor defense. It could be argued the imperial side thought the structure was their defense but that would be ineffective since thermal detonators have a canon capability of melting through 2 meters of pure permacite.

This is what I considered the primary defense against the thermal det and grenade.
The building shook a little, but whatever armament these small units (or solo operatives) had brought wouldn't be enough to demolish an Imperial building of state. This compound wasn't just any compound either, it was an Imperial compound. They'd find Imperial soldiers, HK-droids, turrets and locked blast doors on their way if they really tried to get to the ambassador. Some kind of Blitzkrieg solo-attempt to reach him was doomed to fail. Not even Darth Vader -a Sith Lord or something from almost two centuries ago- would've been able to get through to the Ambassador's office unscathed.

I'm gonna be honest - This looks like a complete exploitation of what @Eccles suggested. A reasonable action on your part would be to blow open an entry and then step through that entry. Nothing about your approach or the posts make any sense on suddenly autohitting whether via neglect (your post didn't explicitly state who was being impacted and how BY NAME) or structure.

You can blow your way in to get within combat range, but no one is dying. @Eccles @Rimrald and THE MOST WONDERFUL, AMAZING, BRAVEST AND SEXIEST DUDE THAT EVER EXISTED @Pantor amend your posts accordingly and address the explosions.

This is absolutely not even close to an autohit. And this is not up for debate. Make these changes now.
