DESCRIPTION
MandalMotors is a Mandalorian owned and operated vehicle manufacturer which came into existence during the Hundred-Year Darkness, and rose to prominence during the Sith campaign to exterminate the Jedi and their allies. In recent years, however, the company has fallen on hard times, facing increasingly stiff competition from Sith-backed manufacturers such as the state-owned Imperial Fleet Works. This is largely due to Imperial laws which have forbidden MandalMotors from building certain types of vessel, and the broader repression of Mandalorian culture, which has robbed many of its products of their identity.

Case in point is the MM8 Bromeliad. Originally dubbed the Aliit-class starfighter, a word in the Mandalorian language roughly translating to "Clan," the more innocuous name Bromeliad was adopted to appease Imperial authorities, who had already threatened to revoke the company's starfighter production license if the name of one of MandalMotors' previous designs, the Marev-class starfighter, was not changed. Nevertheless, the design was built, and like many MandalMotors designs proved to be a well-made and capable machine.

The Bromeliad/Aliit is a quad-gun, high speed design, best suited for interceptor duty or shipboard operation. Armament consists of 4 light laser cannons and a single concussion missile launcher with a 3-missile magazine. Like most interceptor designs it does not have shielding or a hyperdrive, but can maneuver competently and a skilled pilot can make up for most shortcomings; if not, an ejection seat with an integrated survival capsule enables the pilot to bail out in an emergency. Top speed is about 110 MGLT.

The Bromeliad/Aliit is most common in Mandalorian space, and MandalMotors has been slow to find export customers, being again hampered in this by Imperial restrictions. Nevertheless, the type is well liked by Mandalorian pilots, who tend to refer to it by its original name rather than its official designation.

LEGALITY
Restricted. In civilized systems, pilots must be properly licensed or be members of recognized armed groups.

INTENT
To create a standard starfighter for Mandalorian use.

ADVANCED TECH
No. MM8 Bromeliad/Aliit-class starfighters are available, although being legally restricted makes them non-trivial for the average individual to own.
