DESCRIPTION
MandalMotors is a Mandalorian owned and operated vehicle manufacturer which came into existence during the Hundred-Year Darkness, and rose to prominence during the Sith campaign to exterminate the Jedi and their allies. In recent years, however, the company has fallen on hard times, facing increasingly stiff competition from Sith-backed manufacturers such as the state-owned Imperial Fleet Works. This is largely due to Imperial laws which have forbidden MandalMotors from building certain types of vessel, and the broader repression of Mandalorian culture, which has robbed many of its products of their identity.

Case in point is the MM3 Bramble. The ship was originally dubbed the Beskaryc-class starbomber, a short form of Ori'beskaryc, a word in the Mandalorian language roughly translating to "Hard Case." The more innocuous name Bramble was adopted to appease Imperial authorities, who had already threatened to revoke the company's starfighter production license if the name of one of MandalMotors' previous designs, the Marev-class starfighter, was not changed. Nevertheless, the design was built, and like many MandalMotors designs proved to be a well-made and capable machine.

Unlike the smaller MM2 Fern/Mandokar-class, which is optimized more for fast attacks of opportunity, the Bramble/Beskaryc is better suited for more organized assaults against pre-designated targets. It is well equipped for its role, delivering its payload of bombs and missiles against primarily capital ships and ground targets. The vessel is well armed, with a useful load consisting of 8 proton torpedoes from 2 launchers, and 30 unguided proton bombs through a ventral bomb chute. 2 twin light laser turrets grant the starbomber some ability to defend itself against enemy interceptors, with 1 dorsal and 1 ventral.

In addition to its armament, the Bramble/Beskaryc is equipped with a light deflector shield, as well as a class 5 hyperdrive, giving it mobility and a small amount of extra durability. This is just as well, as although the Bramble/Beskaryc can engage enemy starfighters and other craft with its turrets, it is larger and slower, and less maneuverable, making it a tempting target. In action, the type often flies in formation with other bombers, allowing each craft to support its allies with overlapping fields of fire from their turrets. Escort starfighters are often employed as well.

The Bramble/Beskaryc is most common in Mandalorian space, and MandalMotors has been slow to find export customers, being again hampered in this by Imperial restrictions. Nevertheless, the type is well liked by Mandalorian pilots, who tend to refer to it by its original name rather than its official designation.

LEGALITY
Restricted. In civilized systems, pilots must be properly licensed or be members of recognized armed groups.

INTENT
To create a light bomber for use by Mandalorian forces.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. MM3 Bramble/Beskaryc-class starbombers are well armed, and it would require a plot for a character or faction to earn, steal or otherwise acquire one.
