DESCRIPTION
MandalMotors is a Mandalorian owned and operated vehicle manufacturer which came into existence during the Hundred-Year Darkness, and rose to prominence during the Sith campaign to exterminate the Jedi and their allies. In recent years, however, the company has fallen on hard times, facing increasingly stiff competition from Sith-backed manufacturers such as the state-owned Imperial Fleet Works. This is largely due to Imperial laws which have forbidden MandalMotors from building certain types of vessel, and the broader repression of Mandalorian culture, which has robbed many of its products of their identity.

Case in point is the MM2 Fern. Originally dubbed the Mandokar-class starbomber, a word in the Mandalorian language roughly translating to "Right Stuff," the more innocuous name Fern was adopted to appease Imperial authorities, who had already threatened to revoke the company's starfighter production license if the name of one of MandalMotors' previous designs, the Marev-class starfighter, was not changed. Nevertheless, the design was built, and like many MandalMotors designs proved to be a well-made and capable machine.

Designed primarily for swift attack operations, the Fern/Mandokar is well equipped for its role, delivering its payload against primarily capital ships and ground targets. The vessel is well armed, with a useful load consisting of 6 proton torpedoes from 2 launchers. Twin forward-firing medium laser cannons are mounted above the cockpit, giving the craft some ability to strafe targets with guns as well.

In addition to its armament, the Fern/Mandokar is equipped with a light deflector shield, as well as a class 4 hyperdrive, giving it mobility and a small amount of extra durability. This is just as well, as although the Starthunder is well equipped to take on stationary or slow-moving targets, it lacks any true defensive weapons, and is too slow and comparatively sluggish in maneuvering to nekfight with most proper starfighters. As a result, it is heavily dependent on escorting starfighters to clear enemy interceptors from its attack vector. In cases where it is possible to do so, Fern/Mandokar pilots will try to come in low and fast against targets such as airfields in an effort to catch enemy snubfighters on the ground, where they are easy prey.

The Fern/Mandokar is most common in Mandalorian space, and MandalMotors has been slow to find export customers, being again hampered in this by Imperial restrictions. Nevertheless, the type is well liked by Mandalorian pilots, who tend to refer to it by its original name rather than its official designation.

LEGALITY
Restricted. In civilized systems, pilots must be properly licensed or be members of recognized armed groups.

INTENT
To create a light bomber for use by Mandalorian forces.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. MM2 Fern/Mandokar-class starbombers are well armed, and it would require a plot for a character or faction to earn, steal or otherwise acquire one.
