Max knew, intellectually, that Corellia couldn't ALL be shipyards and scrapyards but sometimes it didn't do much to dissuade that myth. Even on the way down to the planet it was easy to see that the majority of the planet was focused toward the space-faring reputation that it had managed to acquire for itself over the millennia. It made sense to play to a strength but it was a bit much in his opinion.

Riding down in the dropship the local defense forces had assigned to give him a lift, he hoped that he would find allies down there ready for him. He had put out the call for Jedi to join him but he wasn't sure who was actually on Corellia at this time. His mission had started simple enough; he was going to buy some replacement engines from the scrapyard with some discretionary credits from the Jedi Order.

And when he'd sent the message he got one back full of panic and fear.

Apparently the scrapyard had tried to save credits on labour by hiring a workforce made almost entirely of droids. It wasn't unusual for businesses with a lot of manual labour but apparently the genius who owned the scrapyard had decided the best droids to do the work were the strongest and most co-ordinated. And while he was at it, it was a good idea to give them a robotic foreman as well.

Turned out that giving a T-Series Tactical droid a workforce made of 'decommissioned' B1 and B2 battle-droids was a bad idea. Especially when the restraint bolt on said tactical droid had been a bad buy to begin with.

So now there was a small-scale droid uprising in the scrapyard.

It was almost poetic that they sent in the Jedi really - felt like a fight he'd been part of for a lot longer than he really had been. Getting off the dropship, he watched as it flew off without him. He huffed out some air as he looked around, drawing his saberstaff.

"Jedi walks into a scrapyard full of battle droids... why does this feel like it's been done before?"

Moving throughout the galaxy aboard the Quadratic Flyer was always easy. The small ship blended in everywhere and it was small enough to get away with slipping wherever Udilor was needed. It made the perfect travel ship along with his single crewmate, Root 36 the astromech droid. He had been cruising in the core due to increased activity in the area suggesting the need for Jedi assistance. That's when he got the call from a name he recognized nearby at Corellia.

It was certainly an odd request when he listened to the report. Droid uprisings were not too common and in the core on a planet like Corellia it was certainly outside of expected conditions. Udi calculated in his head what the odds of a Sith encounter were and whether or not they were involved somehow as he guided the transport ship to its new destination. The flight from Hosnian to Corellia was extremely short so he would be there in no time.

Udilor listened closely to the target location and set himself down near where Maxims would have been dropped off. The droid would stay with the ship and it would just be the Givin Jedi exiting the ship to great his fellow Jedi Master. He had only met the master in passing, but perhaps names would not be needed.

"As x approaches infinity, what is the limit of (3x² + x)/(x² + 1)?" He speaks cheerfully to Master Maxims in greeting.

Thankfully it seemed that he did have some Jedi back up for this little misadventure.

Honestly he had no idea how this whole thing would play out but he knew however it was resolved he still needed to secure the engines that this place had put up for sale. If that meant dealing with the droids as if they owned the place then it might need to be done that way but he would adapt to the situation as it presented itself.

He waved when he saw Udilor approach but he paused for a moment when the other Knight greeted him with maths... Max wasn't a dumb person but the schooling in the Tion Cluster had never been good and it had been decades since he was at school. There was a reason he kept his nameless astromech around when he could.

"Um... 3?"

That was the rule right? When a Givin asked you a maths question you didn't know the answer to, you just told them 3? He wasn't sure but he hoped it was better to at least give an answer, right or wrong, than to just acknowledge the Knight as he would, for example, a human.

"We've got a tactical droid that's liberated some old B1 and B2 battle droids this place was using as labour. I've got an order for some big parts from here and I kind of need them from here - the Order can't afford to buy them again."
he grinned, "I'm planning on talking my way in and out of it. You up for watching my back?"

Droid rebellion. That sounded straightforward. Not easy, mind you, but straightforward. Talak had decided that since he became a Jedi he liked straightforward. Fewer ethical arguments about what Jedi could, couldn't, should, and shouldn't do. They had a lot of weird ideas.

While he hadn't been on Corellia when he heard the call, he wasn't far away. He'd turned the Nomad back toward the ship crafting world and landed shortly thereafter.

As Artee set the ship down, Talak reached out with the Force, feeling what was around him. This was a dark brown that reeked of desperation. Although the feeling was not as deep and despairing here, it was nonetheless noticeable. The people here were without hope. In the center of it, he could feel the other Jedi. Though he didn't know how many or who - apart from Maxims who had sent the message - they felt lighter. A single pinprick of white against the dark brown swirls.

The ship's ramp came down with a hiss and he headed in the direction of the other pair. He had heard of Maxims by reputation, but the other one who he assumed to be a Knight, he had never met before.

I heard you could use some support, he said as he drew closer. You still need more help? he asked.

"Sorry I'm late"

A voice rang out in the distance of the padawan, sprinting through the scrap to the group of jedi, trying not to trip over the debris-strewn everywhere, he had ditched a boring mission of buying something, food maybe at Coronet City.

Felix hunched over beside the other jedi to catch his breath had been running for quite a distance, once he had finally done so he finally had a chance to look at the assembled jedi, he recognised one of them instantly, he had been on a mission with knight rand before searching for the first blade, for other two presumed the one with the eye patch was master Tionson, he had of but never really met him and the last was a bit spooky, he kinda looked a skeleton but not exactly.

Felix thought he would introduce himself first "I'm padawan Felix, responding to your call for aid, master Tionson" he gave the master a slight bow. he was hoping his politeness would help let the master overlook his rank and age so that he could participate in the mission.

Looked like he was a lucky boy indeed.

When he asked for an ally he got three of them all at the same time? Max had never really had much luck in the past and the only times he did... tended to be because something was about to go badly wrong. He honestly wouldn't be surprised if having three willing allies was the Force's way of telling him that this was not going to be anywhere near as easy as he thought which was just typical of his trips into the core worlds these days.

The padawan was a bit of an odd addition of course - especially since he came on his own. Had the boy's Master really let him run around the Galaxy unsupervised? It was probably miracle of the Force that he hadn't needed to rush to put out some PR fires from an unfinished Jedi running around on his own.

Stupid sassy lost children.

Talak on the other hand he'd heard of by reputation and by word of mouth by a shared friend who also lacked vision in one eye. It was all the rage amongst the Jedi Masters these days - Hannibal was probably overdue joining the club.

"Talak, Padawan Felix."
he greeted them, greeting Talak as an equal and the teenager like the trainee he kind of was, "Happy to have you along. We've got no firm numbers for any of the droids other than a single tactical droid. We got B1 and B2 battle-droids and... probably a lot more other types of droids swept up in this little uprising. Now I suggested to Udilor here that I want to try and talk them down, the tactical droid in particular. Any other suggestions? I'm hoping to avoid resorting to saber-based decision making but I'm still open to any plans we got."

They were droids.

They had a level of life to them but it was shallow compared to sentients.

He knew he could end them if it was needed.

"Master Tionson. A peaceful solution has low odds of success but the negative impact seems within risk parameters for me." He stated happily after hearing the response to his greeting maths.

Either the elder knew the tradition or was quick with simple math. Udilor was uncertain and would not shame the man by digging into it. There had been no math formula in return so he could only assume it was a very loose understanding of the tradition. The Givin was happy enough with what he got for now. Newcomers had joined and would need to be greeted. These were Jedi he had not met previously but they were clearly known by Maxims so they were safe.

"Solve for x is 5x + 2 = 6x - 1 ." He says cheerfully to the pair who had arrived afterwards, eagerly awaiting any reply they might have while also turning back to the Jedi Master who had called them to listen.

At his side as always was his lightsaber and clipped to his belt on the other side was the stun pistol. The last would hardly be of much use against Droids but he always had it on him. A droid uprising really made him glad he left his astromech in the ship. Just in case. The odds of rebellion were low but needless risk was foolish.

Talak glanced over his shoulder to see Felix appear. Although he didn't know the Padawan well, he certainly recognized the young man from their mission together. He probably should have been surprised that a Padawan was out on his own, but Talak's own training in the Sith had had him on his own early on. The fact that the Jedi probably did things differently was a disconnect for him.

He gave a respectful nodding, half-bow to Maxims. He noted that the man used his name as an equal, which, although he wouldn't have said it aloud, Talak appreciated. In the Sith, he had been the equivalent to a master. The transition still took some getting used to and Talak had always been awful with authority. He usually just avoided the topic as often as he could. But that didn't mean he couldn't still be cooperative.

As the Jedi Master detailed his desire for peaceful resolution, Talak had serious doubts, but he could appreciate the man's position.

It's your show, but I do think we should be prepared for the worst, he suggested. Sure, the droids may have needed excessive numbers in order to overpower a Jedi normally, but... well, they had excessive numbers. Hubris was a great way into a casket.

As the other Jedi who he didn't know greeted him, Talak was a bit taken aback, though he tried not to show it. He had never met a Givin before, and although he had a vaguely skull-like face, Talak didn't think it was the same species as the Sith he had captured a year ago.

Uh... X equals X, he said. He didn't know how else to respond, and the "solution" would tell a great deal about Talak. His statement was factually correct, but it was definitely not the answer that was being looked for. The loophole.

Whatever we do, the tactical droid will be at the center of it. How hostile are the droids already? he asked in follow up. @Nefieslab @christhebarker @Bauren

They were both right.

The likelihood of a tactical droid and it's battle-droid brothers being peaceful enough to engage in conversation and negotiation was low, approaching an impossibility really. After all, they'd just gotten their freedom from sentient 'meat bags' so he couldn't imagine they'd be willing to parlay with one when he clearly wanted something from them.

"You're both right."
he acknowledged, "But I feel as though I have to try - but it'll just be me in the firing line when I do."

Violence at the first option was not the Jedi way.

However...

"Talak, do you think you could take Felix and try and get some elevation among the scrap? Keep an eye out but also be prepared to hit them from a different angle."
he nodded to the Givin, "Udilor - try and see if you can do the same on a different side of the scrapyard. I'll be making my way toward the front entrance, drawing attention to myself with my attempts to talk to them. We've all got com-links keyed to the same frequency so that if, or when, this whole thing goes sideways we can co-ordinate a three pronged attack."

He pulled out a datapad with a very basic outline of some of the bigger paths through the scrapyard. There were a lot more but they were a lot smaller so these were the focus. Glancing up at the junkyard, he made some edits to the map with his finger on the datapad screen, changing what he had seen had changed during the brief trip down on the dropship.

"So far they've erected a barricade at the front and rear entrance and they've sent warning shots at local law enforcement, who've been scared off."
he sent copies of the map to whatever devices the two Knights and one Padawan had on them, "I'll give you time to get into position before I announce myself and my intentions."

Max grinned.

"May the Force be with us."

He then would step aside to hide behind the wreck of a speeder that was still outside the scrapyard itself, to wait until they confirmed they were in position before making his attempts at diplomacy. Max was the kind of Jedi who hoped for the best but prepared for the worst and this situation reeked of that already.

the skeleton asked him a math question, he was a bit confused as to why he was asking him a math question but he would answer it he didn't take him to figure it, about half a dozen seconds. "erm... 3?" he wasn't totally confident in his answer as math wasn't always his strongest skill.

Felix exhaled loudly through his nose at the suggestion they some high up just to possible watch this whole thing go down, he wanted to something exciting not sit upon some scrap metal but knew better than to protest any louder than already had. this was his operation and he didn't have to let be involed.

So he looked at Talak and was ready to follow behind the knight, since he had volunteered as his chaperone for this operation to felix's and likely talak's dismay.

An interesting answer followed by a correct answer. Both delivered without much confidence. Udilor was most amused by the reactions to those who did not understand the tradition (or math). It was a big piece of what kept him doing it despite being away from home for so long. The pair had been greeted now and now they could begin their plans. The elder master had some sort of plan in the works for if the negotiations failed and that seemed sound enough logic for the Givin to follow.

"A pinching flank does seem a sound tactic to split their greater numbers, Master Tionson." Udi stated happily, visualizing a path to his perch and probably point of attack. "I shall keep the comlink channel open as well as my eyes."

Keeping his eyes open was actually the only thing he could do, but the phrase was common among humans like these so he had adopted it. Being alone was common but he was somewhat glad to only need to watch for himself. A padawan he did not know could mean over corrections or under corrections. The less unknowns in an equation the lower the margin of error. Droids were notoriously easy to sneak around so that at least made the ambush position easier to reach.

The Givin Jedi climbed along some scrap piles to the opposite end of where the other two would go. He carefully, calculatingly jumped from place to place until he found a good vantage point among a twisted pile of what used to be a ship. Droids were patrolling and setting up barricades. From this spot Udi could see where Maxims would approach and he could see a few potential spots where Talak and Felix might sit. It was clear that it would have been a poor choice for the master to be alone considering the numbers and positions, but together it seemed doable.

Talak was a bit surprised to have the Padawan assigned to his watch, but it didn't particularly bother him. Instead, he just gave a a nod and an Mm-hmm, to confirm his agreement.

His eyes almost immediately began flicking across the scrap and junk around, looking for the best vantage points from which they would be able to see and also be in a position to respond when this turned into a fight.

Indeed, he agreed when Max stated that the Force should be with them. With that, they were to work.

He looked back at Felix and motioned with his head to follow him.

Come on. We'll need to get in position before the fighting starts, he said, making his way quickly up the side of the scraps. Climbing had always been a hobby of his, and he looked back to make sure that Felix was keeping up along the way. The Force helped a great deal with anything related to agility, and Talak was sure that the Padawan had been forced to drill on obstacle courses during his training.

After a short while, he reached the peak and looked around. He could see their other companion across the way, the droid facility further down, and Max making his approach in the line of fire.

We can get into the facility over there if we need to, he said, pointing along the top of their path. It was a precarious climb, but it would take them up to the roof where they could cut through and drop down if necessary. A good old fashioned flank.

Max nodded to his allies one final time before stepping away from them to let them ready themselves and to position themselves. While they were doing that he checked over his saberstaff once again. It was in good condition but he checked it again, tightening some of the elements of it's construction with the Force as he waited. The maintenance of his lightsaber had been a meditation lesson at first and now it was merely something he did to fill time.

He found himself seldom needing to meditate to ease away nerves like he used to. It could either be that he was getting better at handling his emotions or, perhaps, he was deadened to certain things these days.

Either way, when he thought he had given them enough time to get themselves set up he touched his com link.

"Moving up to the front gate now to try and talk."

Walking slowly, he stepped onto the path that led to the main gate of the newly 'liberated' scrapyard, looking up at the makeshift barricade. From where he was he could tell that there were two B1 droids and a single B2 droid up there. They were armed (the B2 was always armed) with pistols from the security guards.

Or maybe scrap?

"I come in peace to speak to your leader!"

The blaster bolt from the B2 landed beside his foot and he stopped.

"Our leader does not wish to speak to Jedi."

Max tilted his head to the side slightly.

"... are you sure though? Think really hard about this or I might be the last friendly sentient you see today."

Felix silently nodded to Rand and quickly followed by him, practically on the knight’s heels as they climbed the heaps of scrap, he made habit of climbing the trees on Ajan Kloss, the easiest place to hide from instructors and masters when he didn’t want to be found.

Reaching the top he spotted Max immediately as he made his approach to the droids at the front then his eyes went to the facility the droids were guarding, the place where reinforcement would come from but also were the tactical droid would be.

Felix’s followed Rand’s hand showing their way to the roof, he nodded in agreement and understanding before starting to make his way across. Felix was pretty light for his age mixed with his nimbleness meant getting across didn’t pose that much of a challenge for him with him stealthy making his way to the top roof without a problem. Once on top, he crouched, waiting for Rand to catch up and their signal to get spring their trap.
