Colony Name: Pyre

Species: 98% Human, 2% Other

Capital: Aspiration

Founded: 2164

Population: 1.8 Million

Description: As its name suggests, Pyre is an exceptionally hot world with an uninhabitable equatorial region. Colonists have succeeded in establishing stable settlements in its rocky but more temperate polar regions, though seasonal brushfires remain a serious issue.

The original Aspiration colony was established by independently minded humans, willing to risk the dangers of the Terminus to escape Alliance oversight. Their resolve was quickly put to the test as they came under repeated attacks from roving bands of pirates and slavers. Throughout all this violence the colonists have endured and survived, earning them a reputation as stubborn and fierce frontiersmen.

Settlements across Pyre are relegated to the polar regions, with the largest and de facto capital being Aspiration in the northern hemisphere. Each settlement is largely autonomous, only being required to answer to a central authority in times of invasion. Each region is governed by its own set of laws that can vary largely between settlements. In recent years Pyre’s success has encouraged a growing influx of new colonists both human and otherwise, though this has caused some tension with the original settlers.

Five weeks after the Battle of the Citadel at the climax of the Eden Prime War, some ancient ruins (possibly Prothean or even older) were discovered just a few miles outside Aspiration. This has led to a near planet-wide panic, as the eyes of the galaxy now turn towards the colony. The local government has reasserted its independence from both the Alliance and Citadel Council but has tentatively granted permission for each government to send researchers to the site. In the meantime, various Terminus warlords are massing their forces near the system, likely preparing for an invasion. Unwilling to become the next Eden Prime, Pyre’s population has begun making preparations for all-out war.

So this is what I've come up with for our setting. If everyone is happy with it we can proceed, if not there can be tweaks as needed. You can post your character sheets below and I'll make a link to the rp thread once I have it up. Thanks again to everyone who took interest, I've really been looking forward to this.

Name: Zol’Zaan nar Moreh

Species: Quarian

Age: 20

Affiliation: Migrant Fleet

Homeworld: N/A (born aboard Quarian starship Moreh)

History: With his birth being the unexpected result of a brief romance between the crewmembers of two separate ships, Zol was raised mostly by his mother aboard the Moreh. His father, a Migrant Fleet marine, spent his days on dangerous scouting operations on prospective colony worlds. His mother, being under the command of Admiral Daro’Xen, spent most of her time in a lab researching and developing new methods of hacking geth systems. Zol received the same technical education as his mother, while distantly admiring the idea of serving the Fleet on the front lines like his father. On reaching maturity and beginning his Pilgrimage Zol was determined to find a way of helping advance Quarian technology to a point that they would be prepared to take back their homeworld. He spent some time traveling through Turian space, studying their military ships for insights on how to upgrade the Migrant Fleet. When he heard news of advanced alien ruins being discovered on the human colony of Pyre however, he quickly changed course for the frontier world, certain this would be the ace in the hole he was looking for.

Personality: Like all Quarians Zol is technically minded, though his truest love is software, having been creating VI’s since his early teens. Owing perhaps to his time in the presence of Daro’Xen he has developed what some consider an unhealthy interest in AI as well, though he has never attempted to create one. He is extremely curious, which has gotten him into trouble more than once since beginning his Pilgrimage, and is fanatically loyal to the Migrant Fleet. He takes great pride in his family’s accomplishments and reacts with vocal indignance whenever Quarians are spoken of poorly. At heart however he remains perhaps naively courageous and compassionate, believing it the duty of those capable to stand up for those who aren’t.

Weaponry: M-12 Locust Submachine Gun, M-3 Predator Pistol, Nexus Model Omni-tool

Name: Nelani T'Saris

Species: Asari

Age: 156

Affiliation: Asari Commandos; Special Office of Tactics and Reconnaissance (Candidate)

Homeworld: Illium (Nos Astra)

History

Nelani T'Saris is an asari pureblood born to a corporate executive and her ex-commando bodyguard on Ilium. Purity of blood, lax planetary regulations, and wealth are an explosive cocktail: Nelani had exhausted everything Illium had to offer by the time she reached 100. Having grown tired of luxurious life, she sought to satisfy her curiosity and craving for adventure by joining the Eclipse.

However, Nelani's tenure as a mercenary only lasted 5 years—in large part due to some bad business she was caught up in. Thanks to her mother's influence, Nelani walked out of it relatively unscathed; even the exact nature of the bad business never got on record. However, that did prompt her parents to restrict their daughter's activities. That is why she was sent off to train as an Asari Commando.

Thanks to her parents' acquaintances, the young huntress was afforded the best training and postings. The investments actually paid off: the young Asari's skills in biotics and combat didn't give anyone a reason to say that she had bought her place on the team. Nelani found ways to enjoy her missions too. But still, service in the military was still restricting in what she could do and where she could go. That torture lasted for 50 years.

Throughout those years, Nelani's only hope was eventually becoming a Spectre and gaining the freedom to do things how and where she saw fit. But despite her skills, Nelani's prior involvement in an unsavory business with the Eclipse made that less likely. She was among the possible candidates, but pretty low on the list.

The opportunity to prove herself came to Nelani during the Geth attack on the Citadel and shortly afterwards. She was stationed in the Presidium at that time; her combat abilities and unconventional thinking saved the lives of a few Citadel officials. Combined with the deaths of a few Spectres and candidates, Nelani made it to the short list of candidates, but was not inducted yet. A few weeks later, during a shore leave with a Drell fling on Omega, Nelani got a call from her command. Apparently, some sort of artifact or ruins were found on the human colony of Pyre in the Terminus systems.

It was looking up up to be a boring "watch over" assignment, if it weren't for a few things. The Citadel couldn't send its fleets to the Terminus without drawing attention, so they were sending a Spectre. The closest Spectre was far away, and they needed someone on the ground in the meantime. That someone would be Nelani. And not just because she was the closest Citadel operative available, but because she was considered for Spectre status. Pyre was one of the proving missions, and Nelani wouldn't blow that chance.

Personality

Capable and arrogant, thrill-seeking and bored. Her training and biotics are formidable, but make her feel superior to most foes she encounters. Always eager to try something new, Nelani thinks she has seen the most of the galaxy has to offer. She also has certain unwelcome prejudices. For example, the Quarian Migrant Fleet was never allowed near Illium, and many people (Nelani included) believe it is for good reason. Likewise, she has more respect for the long-established Council species (such as the asari and turians) than to the aggressive newcomers (such as humans).

Armory

Disciple shotgun
Acolyte pistol
Asari sword
Serrice Council armor

Name: Dina Leyland

Species: Human

Age: 45

Affiliation: Pyre Colonial Militia

Homeworld: Earth

History:
Born to poor parents on Earth, Dina grew up in relative poverty in one of the urban conurbations in the United North American States. Faced with little other chances, Dina joined the UNAS military cadets at 16, transferring to full deployment at 18. She served in peacekeeping missions across the globe until leaving at the end of her enlistment. She then went on to join the Systems Alliance Navy, in one of their recruitment drives at the end of the First Contact War.

With humanity's introduction to the Galactic community, the Alliance Navy was drawn into all sorts of duties and missions. Dina found herself dealing with pirate attacks and raiders, helping to establish and defend humanity's newest colonial ambitions. She rose through the ranks, eventually attaining an O3 Captain's rank in the Marines.

Growing disillusioned with Alliance political strategy after the expansion of humanity through the Skyllian Verge, Dina decided to leave the Navy. Rather than returning to Earth, she took an opportunity to join a later colonization wave to Pyre, a successful colony in the Terminus systems. Away from the infuriating oversight of Alliance politicians, Dina believed that she could build a life there for herself and her family.

An obvious candidate for the Colonial Militia on Pyre, she joined up soon after arriving on the colony. Using her experience from the Alliance Marines, she helped to defend the colony from various attacks and soon rose to a higher-up position in Aspriation's militia corp. Helping to lead the capital's anti-raider initiatives, Dina became a trusted and valued member of the colony.

After the discovery of the ruins on Pyre, she finds herself helping to coordinate security between the archaeological site and Aspiration itself, the leadership of the colony becoming more and more worried that the Galactic attention on the planet will attract attackers, particularly in the shadow of Eden Prime.

Personality:

Salty and hard-edged, Dina is a veteran of several Alliance campaigns in the early days of humanity's Galactic ambitions. A seasoned and experienced fighter, Dina gives commands and follows them exceptionally well, drilled into her through years of training and service. Her years have given her a heightened cynicism, particularly towards Galactic-level governments and powers. She is suspicious of anyone serving under them, especially those who claim to represent the council itself.

She has doubts about the reliability and 'friendliness' between humanity and the other Council races, seeing humanity as more 'on it's own' than it might want to admit. Regardless, she has a decent amount of respect for anyone who has served in any form, particularly those that have broken away from their respective government in a search for a more independent, peaceful life.

As a former marine, she has advanced training in firearms, explosives and commanding squads. Her personal favourite weapons are the M96-Mattock assault rifle and M-6 Carnifex pistol.

(OOC: This is fan art is done by someone’s else.)

Name: Karel’Nelvaan vas Tonbay

Species: Quarian

Age: 26

Affiliation: Independent Viglinate(Still has some lingering Migrant Fleet sympathies)

Homeworld: N/A (born aboard Quarian live ship Chayym)

Biography: Born in the Migrant Fleet, Karel lost his parents due to a Batarian pirate raid at an early age. As a result he was raised by a family friend, an old Fleet marine. Often growing up Karel would search up all kinds of information on the Externet, becoming something of a knowledge seeker. He especially became fascinated with other cultures including the ancient Prothen much to his peers’ shock and resentment.

As a result Karel often got into trouble due to fights with other kids. While not exactly approving of Karel’s interests, his guardian, Vom'Feezh admired the boy’s tenacity and made it his purpose to teach the former to be strong and serve the Fleet loyally. By the time of Pilgrimage at age eighteen Karel was eager to explore the galaxy. However, his wanderings proved to be an eye opener in more ways than one.

Despite enjoying many of the sights he came across, Karel was repeatedly persecuted in both Citadel space and the Traverse. These experiences hardened the young man before he found some salvage to return to the Fleet with. Becoming part of the Tonbay crew, Karel served as a Fleet Marine for the next several years, earning a reputation as a demolition expert and marksman.

At age twenty four he earned the rank of sergeant, leading a squad. It was during one patrol on a remote world in the Terminus Systems where his unit was ambushed and were wiped out by a warlord’s forces. Only Karel survived much to his shame and escaped. Yet instead of returning to the Fleet, the marine chose to remain ‘missing in action’ becoming a self-imposed exile.

For the next two years Karel posing as a simple scanvger hunted, targeting criminals sabotage or assassination. Recently he learned about the Pyre discovery. Realizing the interest that the Terminus warlords would have for the find, Karel has made his way there.

Personality: Once a proud member of the Migrant Fleet, Karel is now a guilt-ridden self-exile driven by revenge and suffers from a form of PTSD. While still holding some admiration for alien art and culture such as various types of human music/films he has become quite cynical and somewhat bitter toward most non-Quarians, afraid of being hurt by them again. He especially loathes Batarian raiders, preferring to kill them whenever possible.

Karel loves the Migrant Fleet but doesn’t believe he deserves to be a part of it due to, blaming himself for what happened to his squad in the past. Deep down he longs for closure, wondering if it is even possible at this point.

Extra Info
If Karel had a voice actor: Ben Diskin

Weaponry: M-97 Viper Sniper Rifle, M-8 Avenger Assault Rifle and M-3 Predator Pistol,

Name: Erron Sacuri

Species: Turian

Age: 33

Affiliation: Turian Military (Blackwatch)

Homeworld: Palaven

History: Born and raised on Palaven to loving parents, a career military man and a local administrator, Erron's early years were typical of most Turians along with an older brother and younger sister. With the arrival of his 15th birthday, boot camp would begin as it did for all Turian citizens. Erron took quickly to the military life and felt a great sense of belonging among his peers. When he told his father this, the older Turian simply smiled and said, "Well guess we have another soldier in the family. As the years progressed the young Turian would show marked skills in stealth tactics, marksmanship, and infiltration.

As he grew older Erron fell deeper and deeper into military life and eventually was selected for full active duty. His father was very proud as his other siblings hadn't shown the same aptitude for military service, though like all Turians they served the military body in their own way. Not long after his superiors pushed for him to be chosen for spec-ops training. After more years of training Erron was assigned to a proper spec-ops unit and his military service truly began in earnest.

He distinguished himself as an excellent solider on numerous occasions, and earned the respect of his peers. Erron's accomplishments eventually caught the eye of the elite spec-ops unit Blackwatch. They strongly considered inviting Erron, but needed to see what Erron was truly capable of. They got there chance to see his true colors on what was supposed to be a routine routing of a band of desperate pirates. Instead what his unit found was trained platoon of entrenched mercs. His own unit took many casualties, but Erron and the surviors pushed back and routed the mercs and completed their mission. His squadmates commented that Erron had been invaluable to the missions completion and the survival of the rest of his squad. That was all the Hierarchs needed to transfer Erron into Blackwatch.

Since then Erron has served enthusiastically and made a name for himself among the Blackwatch. Erron was disappointed that he missed out on aiding against the fight against Saren and the Geth on the Citadel. He wouldn't have to wait too long to get another chance at aiding his people however. Reports had come that some kind of ruins discovered on the human colony on Pyre. The Hierarchs, especially after the Eden Prime event, wanted to get ahead of this discovery. To this end they decided only Blackwatch had the skills to recon the developing situation. Though a full squad of Blackwatch operatives, no matter how stealthy, would have a hard time going unnoticed. So one Turian would be sent, that Turian would be Erron. He was to report to Prye and keep an eye on the situation while undercover as a mercenary, and report any findings back to Turian command.

Personality: Despite being a career military man, Erron's loving family life and general love for the work he does, has left him as a relatively easy going individual. Erron is also in possession of the famous sharp Turian tongue, usually quick with a comeback or quip in even the most stressful situations.

Erron's generally level headed as well, slow to anger. Though typical of most Turians, if brought to it, he'll fight tooth and claw until the enemy is defeated.

He's mostly friendly with all the other species, though can tend to a bit wary of humans and Krogan's. He's fiercely loyal to anybody he becomes close to, bordering on self destructive as well as his own government. No doubt a product of his strict Turian upbringing and military background.

Equipment: Brawler pistol, Crossfire assault rifle, and Punisher sniper rifle. Typically wears medium armor.

Character Theme

Name: Durok Vykin

Species: Krogan

Age: 528

Affiliation: Freelance mercenary

Homeworld: Tuchanka

History: Born in 1655 CE, Durok “Boom” Vykin can be considered as a young Krogan. In human relative terms, he better relates to a thirty-year-old adult, only one with even more years of experience in his armor. Born on the krogan homeworld of Tuchanka, he was yet born too late to experience the Krogan Rebellions. His clan, Vykin, do trace their roots to that time when the krogan waged war with the stars, with the family feats carried across tongues, limited to the clan though the Vykins' may be.

Durok was not born into wealth or power amongst the warlords of his people, Clan Vykin being few in number and little in reputation, but they held their own to those they encountered. Fathers and grandfathers had taken part in wars as soldiers and vanguards, their sons fueled the fire’s embers by butting heads with the aliens and worlds around them, some serving as mercenaries, bounty hunters and bodyguards.

Durok’s own father, Juksor, had taught his son the way of the wanderer, the two bouncing between the suns as they took one job after the next as an unstoppable duo of father and son. Until one day Juksor’s heart stopped beating on a turian spaceship, and in turn that ship stopped once Durok blew it up with his own. He began the rest of his days as a freelancer, offering his services as a solo operative but not hesitating to ride with a posse when the occasion called for it.

Years later, that occasion came in the form of a planet called Pyre. Star Onyx, a corporation with a keen interest in all things Prothean, hired Durok and four other mercs on a job that came straight from the board. The mission was to investigate Pyre’s discovery of ruins and to either persuade or intimidate its locals into a contract of free access for Star Onyx. The job went south when Durok’s associates went missing in Aspiration. Now he has two jobs: find his crew and find out what the ruins are all about. Though time will tell if he forfeits one objective in favor for the other.

Personality: Durok learned long ago the most important lesson in life: Look out for number one. While some might twist that statement into self-serving at any cost, Durok has a few codes to in turn live by, even if that is defined by making a living off of violence and death. Once he takes a job he aims to complete it no matter what it takes. As a krogan, he learned loyalty through the bonds of clan, and wears his clan name with pride even if he chose a path leading him away and on his own. Ultimately, Durok has few boundaries to cross in the world of moral question, though he lives up to his code as much as he lives up to his nickname.

Hey gang, great posts. Trying to figure how my vigilante could be present. So far I’m considering he is spying out the location from a hidden location on the outskirts. Or infiltrate from an air vent or something. Then again the latter would be near impossible due to the tight security.

You could potentially have him hop onto the roof of the train or something before it leaves the station. Remember this is still a backwater colony. Security may be tight but a trained infiltrator should be able to find the cracks.

Jumping onto the roof sounds fun. Alternatively a more subtle method would be to have a disguise as security or train worker or something. I know there’s a bit of a rift between races for some in the colony but it could work.

Hey everyone, because there's going to be some buildup before the action starts I was thinking we might use a loose turn order. Meaning each of you can have your characters converse at your own posting pace and then once I forward the plot in my posts we could do the combat related stuff in order.

This is just to keep the thread going at a good pace and prevent people from losing interest. Or if you guys aren't comfortable with that we can maintain the current order so things don't get too chaotic. Either way I won't make any changes without a consensus on the idea. So feel free to voice your opinion.

I think a loose posting order is the way. A group our size plus a general posting timeframe (3 days?) means a lot of waiting otherwise. As long as people don’t go too crazy replying ten times a day then things shouldn’t get too chaotic.

Ok that was fast. Looks like everyone agrees, although we haven't heard from @Charndley yet. So you can go ahead and start posting at your own pace so far as character conversations are concerned. Once a combat encounter begins the turn order will be first come first serve, and once everyone has gone we'll keep to that order until the combat is over.

I plan on tonight for posty-posty. Will read up on replies but it looks like someone was brave enough to sit beside a krogan which is super fantastic.

Also guys I know this site is heavy with the Discord but I don’t dabble in it much these days. Guessing it’s nothing major since our shindig is set in Diverse?

We haven't been discussing the Mass Effect thread on the Discord if that's what you mean. Everything is right here.
