EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Marauder-class corvette is a light warship which was originally designed by Republic Sienar Systems for the Galactic Republic in the decades prior to the Clone Wars. Intended for the Republic Judiciary Fleet, it was characteristic of the relatively toothless warships with which the service was equipped in those days, lacking much in the way of heavy armament despite its size and role. In any event, it proved too lightly armed even for the Judiciary, and so was rejected, becoming one of Sienar's rare failures. The company sold small numbers of Marauders to various planetary and sector governments in the lead-up to the Clone Wars, and eventually managed to sell a production license to the Corporate Sector Authority, which went on to build relatively large numbers of the type to equip its Picket Fleet. The CSA remains the largest single operator of the type.

The Marauder-class corvette is 195 meters in length, with a crew of 72, plus 80 passengers. It can carry 300 standard tons of cargo, and has consumables sufficient for up to 3 months in space. Armament consists of 2 heavy turbolaser cannons which are fixed forward in the wingtips, more akin to a starfighter than a capital ship. Also present are a pair of quad light laser turrets, meant to fend off small craft, and a pair of tractor beams, meant to grapple and haul in enemy craft for boarding and inspection. Overall, the armament of the Marauder is not impressive for its size and class, although it does have one ace up its sleeve.

The Marauder, though hardly the most powerful vessel of its kind in space by itself, has an internal hangar capable of hosting a full squadron of 12 starfighters, nearly unprecedented for a corvette, plus a single shuttle or other similarly sized craft. The corvette often uses this capacity as an offensive and defensive screen, letting its fighters range out to attack enemies well outside the reach of its own weapons and sensors.

In the present day, the Marauder is often used as a mobile base of operations for starfighter squadrons, either elite military units or well-off mercenaries and pirates. Due to its age, it is not as common as it once was in this role, however certain sector and system governments continue to use it, particularly the CSA, where most are to be found.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Marauder-class corvettes are classified as small capital ships under Galactic law. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a ship from canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Marauder-class corvettes are capital ships, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. These vessels may be used as faction assets, or can be operated by a group of at least 6 player characters who work together regularly.
