The junk-town was rife with lowlifes that scowled at the newcomer- a Tognath bounty hunter named Xol. Secretly, Xol was known as a lesser Taskmaster for the Bounty Boards on Coruscant; a guy who represented the Guild and gave out bounties and their respective tracking thob. When he wasn't giving out mini hunts and whatnot, he was acting as a bounty hunter for the Zaa Fenn Crime Family- and his current mission was to retrieve such a bounty, a bounty that would make his family rich.

The Crown Jewels of Onderon had a 2 million credit reward for their return back to the king along with one very powerful ally, that being the noble family's debt to Xol, therefore a debt to Zaa Fenn and Crymorah.

Xol had asked two other scoundrels if they were interested in such a find. Everyone knew they were on Quesh, it was just a matter of finding the crashed ship and staying alive long enough to tell the tail. The Tognath invited the others to Jakku because word wouldn't get out of another expedition to Quesh on the back-water, no-water, dust ball of a planet.

Xol made his way under an overhanging slab of metal that provided shade for the Tognath. Soon, his buddies would be meeting with him to devise a plan on finding the legendary Crown Jewels.

Crix's fingers drummed in rhythm with the cantina's band as he awaited the meeting time for his latest job. The prize, the crown jewel's of Onderon, presented far more opportunity than the bullshit offer of 2 million credits. Having recently worked for Kara Lok, Crix knew the 5 Syndicates were in a far more precarious position than they were letting on. If they didn't start making friends with other powers in the universe the empire would shut them down. Hell, they were already moving in on syndicate territory and no one was doing shit to stop it.

The cantina buzzed with life as Crix scanned the room. The midday heat on the desert planet of Jakku had driven its residents from their work in the sun and into the cool welcome of this local oasis. He desperately wanted a drink, but he needed to keep his head on straight. He'd never worked with the bounty hunter who called himself Xol, but he'd heard he was proficient, and that was good enough for Crix.

Prrrrt prrrrt prrrt

Crix glanced down at his wrist and smiled as the timer on his wristpad let him know it was time to get to work. He stood from his position, stretched and made his way for the door. The failure hiss of compressed air punctuated his entrance into the harsh climate of Jakku. He swore under his breath as the heat slammed into him. For a moment he wondered if Xol had chosen this time as a test. A few minutes later he arrived at the obscure overhang and spotted the Tognath.

"Name's Crix, you ready to talk terms?"

"Seventy-thirty." Xol spoke in basic, his words a little slurred. He was trying to learn to speak it a little better in case someone couldn't understand his Huttese. The Tognath had no intention of that deal to fly with Crix as it was simply a ploy to lower the price to at least fifty-fifty though the sweet spot would've been sixty-forty, if Xol did some decent persuading.

These jewels were going to be one hefty job, and Xol still had some doubt that the Onderon Nobles had even 1 million credits to their names. So Xol needed as much money he could get off the job as he could and maybe use the jewels, if they actually found them, as leverage to keep the house in check and under Zaa Fenn's control. That was Xol's real intention with the Jewels; Extortion and monopolization of another planet under Crymorah's control.

The 2 million credits was more of an added bonus.

Nice try, but 70/30 ain't gonna cut it.

Crix stood his ground with the bounty hunter before him. A seventy/thirty split was skylane robbery and Xol knew it. There was no way in hell he was doing half the work for less than half the cut.

Fifty/fifty and I’m talking jewels not credits.

The smuggler wasn’t interested in the two million, no, Crix wanted a meeting with the Onderonian senator, he wanted to make a friend. Nothing would prove his abilities faster than securing a senator for the syndicate.

Su. Atuah getta really?
So, we gotta deal?

Once they shook on it, the real work could get underway. They still needed to get to Quesh locate the ship and retrieve the missing jewels and the smuggler highly doubted they'd be the only ones after this big of a prize. That being said, Crix couldn't help but feel a pang of excitement. He'd acquired some new gear especially for this job that he couldn't wait to try out.

Xol chuckled.

Everything was going according to plan...mostly. Crix was smart to ask for half of the crown jewels, but that wasn't on the table for a number of reasons.

"Nobata. Jee hatkocanh lee chalya uba siana bu phabeka ta woha cahuodaha doi bu hotpaka. Bu nal doth mo bu hodua." <No. I'll give you half the credits we'll earn from the job. The jewels are off the table.> The man was ambitious, like Xol, but this was the Tognath's job and they were going to do it the Tognath's way.

"Bu Tadue woceuea gee tytung gai see aha an riiauohka kohpa an poupiua che- whao la bitmaph bap see ten doth t'chuta twa echuta, la nah wamma ten, la hatkocanh eeth wa dopa duton keemonhofwachadon mon wah chee dah ten bantkoke, an kae kuna kee tee doth jahke bai winkee ree tapka ban gee bai oto vo bo apiua kouwahe bai ye wanya bimay mee saiit."

<The Noble family has every inch of gold and jewelry marked and accounted for- if they suspect either of us are hiding their shit, they won't pay us, they'll put a 2 million bounty on us instead, and any you won't be able to sleep at night without having to keep one eye open to look over your shoulder.>
Xol said earnestly and seriously- but it was all a big fat lie. A very good one, too.

The Bounty Hunter simply wanted the glory of bringing another planet to the knee under the Crymorah Syndicate himself. He needed this kind of reputation. But something gave Xol another idea- Xol already liked Crix, but if there was a chance the Tognath could recruit the smuggler into the Zaa Fenn Crime Family, then Xol would have no choice but to share that glory with the younger fellow- something Xol had no problem with.

"There is...potentially...more money and status changes involved. Good...ones," Xol slurred in basic. "Crymorah doth yo ho hee kaa. Doth chalanh? Whao uba tee dotke, hee taa doth Jee." <Crymorah is offering such things. Are interested? If you are not, then neither am I.> He said carefully, putting his arms down at his side, subtly, incase he needed to quickdraw.

The Smuggler didn't like the way this was going. He'd been clear he wasn't interested in the credits, and now the hunter was trying to pull shit over on him. This was bad business and Crix was debating whether or not he should just walk. He decided to give it one more try. If they couldn't come to terms they were both happy with the job would fall apart before it began.

"Me tu atcha don wan credits. Me tu acthca wan jewels."

Crix struggled to keep the irritation out of his voice. He listened as Xol made a shitty attempt at lying about the Onderonian's keeping a record on the jewels. The frakking things had been missing for a millennia. At this point, they were more legend and myth than anything else.

"Do you think I'm stupid?"

All pretense of professional courtesy was cast aside as Crix glared at the hunter.

"I Don't work for anyone, but myself. If you want to bring a win back to your masters be my guest, but I'm not in this to make someone else more powerful."

The Smuggler wasn't stupid, he'd seen the subtle change in Xol's stance and had made an adjustment in preparation for what was to come. He angled his body slightly, hiding his left hand from Xol's view, placing it on the butt of his RSFK, while his right tapped a warning on the butt of his DG-29. Crix was no stranger to the threat of death. He was calm and ready to do what was necessary even if it meant putting Xol into the dirt.

Xol huffed as his hands moved to his own blaster pistols- the boy was still just a boy, nevertheless.

In a quick blur, Xol drew both blasters faster than Crix would've been able to react to- a warning for future engagements, firing over the kid's shoulder at a Weequay about to shoot Crix in the back.
Pirates.

Xol walked past Crix, bumping into his shoulder to turn the smuggler's gaze to their unexpected guest. Xol studied his kill, searching it for some sort of identification but only found credits and the CDEF blaster pistol it had carried. The bounty hunter took the blaster pistol- a nice sell for a few extra credits, but also just in case one of the scrappers was feeling lucky, too.

The worst problem about pirates was the fact that you never knew who you were dealing with. They didn't carry their crew's name with them like a banner, which was what most Syndicate members did. They were like Crix, in a way, incredibly independent and so stubbornly so that you couldn't interrogate them into telling you who they work for if they don't get paid for telling.

Xol kicked the Weequay in the side of the head and looked up to gaze at Crix. "Dokeecha dokwacha. Tozei mo. Jee yoieu bu dopa duton keemonhofwachadon mon phabeka an wa kaae bimay siana dee nal, an bankop tee janu uba cha chahsa vehpobaee bu moulee rah, uba lwaa tee gee wa chaduae cay tah ree tytung." <Sixty forty. Final offer. I get the two million credits and a little over half of the jewels, and since you don't care about the money, you shouldn't have a problem with this at all.>
He spoke as if nothing had happened.

Crix wasn't growing on the Tognath's nerves, however, as Xol felt Crix was with him. Xol was only now slightly uneasy do to the presence of a pirate spy who was probably recording the whole conversation- which meant Xol was going to have to expect company on their pursuit. The smuggler was a good business man, but the Tognath was a better shot anyway.

"Tah doth mah hotpaka, Crix. Tee mee. Jee cha gee bai kanieh uba an Jee gee chawaha uba peee wa joday cohkamhanonka ai peee wa panpihonh. Uba gee wa dai neyoha an Jee gee hade bai miena fa cay wa kouciukoee keepuna hhee." <This is my job, Crix. Not yours. I didn't have to invite you and I'd prefer you as a work partner than as a competitor. You have a handsome face and I'd hade to ruin it with a few blaster holes.> The bounty hunter chuckled good heartedly.

Everything happened in the beat of a heart.

The shuffling crunch of sand underfoot set it all off, Crix saw Xol tense, instinctively he pulled his DG, spun toward his right shoulder, and fired a beat behind The Hunter, while simultaneously pulling his RSFK and nearly blowing the Tognath away. The only thing that stopped him was realizing the hunter's gaze had flicked over his shoulder rather than his center mass.

Their blaster bolts slammed into a weequay that had been attempting to get the drop on them. Xol moved to inspect the body adjusting his offer to 60/40. That was a better cut. He made some shot about keeping the money, but what he intended to do with his cut was up to him, and Crix could care less.

The tough-guy act was getting old. There was nothing worse than having to work with someone who needed to prove themselves at every turn and it felt like Xol was in try-hard mode every time he spoke. The Hunter remarked about not needing to invite him along for the job, and made a threat about putting some blaster bolts into Crix's face, but as the smuggler looked over at the body, he saw the wafting whisp of smoke being carried off by the breeze from HIS DG.

"60/40 it is," responded The Smuggler as he holstered his weapons. "I'd say our friend is one of many. I'm not interested in a shootout with no prize. I'll meet you at the rendevous point."

Crix wouldn't object if Xol wanted to join him on his ship, but Crix wouldn't be riding in anything other than The Freebird. On the way back, he commed Beegee and had the little droid prime the ship for take-off. No need to stick around and invite more trouble. By the time he'd arrived everything was ready to go and he set the ship into motion. The Freebird broke atmosphere, and Crix made the jump to hyperspace.

In a few hours, he'd be on a poisonous planet hunting for precious treasure. Hooray?

Xol nodded and chuckled after the deal went as planned. If the two ended up working together, the Tognath would've preferred that Crix do the talking and business work instead as Xol hated talking and he was better and being a bad cop anyway.

Crix finally came to his sense, though, and agreed on the 40/60 deal the Tognath had demanded earlier.

"Deal." Xol hissed with amusement.

The bounty hunter wasn't going to hop on some stranger's ship, however, and preferred that there were multiple ships in use anyway. Xol saw it as a more potential escape routes instead of getting caught all at once- this way if either one of them got caught or captured, the other would be able to complete the job.

"For the...recorrrrd...You...ain't...baaaad, kid." He slurred, dipping his head in Crix's direction before heading back to his own ship to get this hiest over and done with. Akka always said, 'The quicker you're in it, the quicker you're out of it'.
