The Arcanist had discovered that he enjoyed traveling the galaxy and seeing new places. When he'd set out from the Unknown Region to make changes for the Sith Eternal he hadn't ever been to these worlds of massive populations and huge cities. It had begun with Coruscant - a world he still looked at fondly - and continued to less savory worlds like Nar Shaddaa. With the need to meet another member of the Sith Eternal, the Arcanist had picked a world where his mask wasn't immediately recognizable and where he wouldn't immediately be attacked in the street.

He stood on an open balcony where the winds rushed up from the edge of oblivion. If he looked straight down and over the railing there was nothing below but clouds and, somewhere far below, the ground. It was quite the exquisite view, and the air felt fresh. It had been built up by the Neimodians before the Clone Wars and was considered a destination world by many of the species. The Arcanist could certainly see why.

Although he had received a few odd looks for not being Neimodian, most people didn't pay him any more mind than that. He was perfectly content to not be bothered while he waited for the man he was here to meet. Out on this balcony there was no one nearby, and no one to listen in. It was... ideal.

There was more than one mask that Malakai Beck wore. But he had a feeling he was not the only one with that appreciation for headwear. Masks were not often needed in the day to day despite what others likely wanted. The Grysk had a morbid appearance after all. But there were none that he liked that were subtle since his Ren armor would attract too much attention and he did not feel like going completely without a disguise. As a result he had picked a simple mask.

In addition to his mask he had two added props that might end up being used sooner rather than later. One was his hoverboard. Malakai wanted to try and modify it so he could fly on it and not just hover. The place the Arcanist had picked intrigued him to maybe take a little 'Kai time'. The second thing he had was a second backpack. Actually it was a parachute because if he was asked honestly he was not entirely confident in his skills as a board modifier. But it definitly all came together to make him not look like any sort of typical Knight of Ren, Legionnaire, spice dealer or anything else that might attract attention.

This was the first time meeting the Arcanist he had heard about on the news. But it had somewhat sounded like it was a random act that was too good to be true. It was not like the higher echelons of the Sith Eternal were informing him about major stuff. But Malakai had hoped it was some other Legionnaire or Guardian had been behind it. Just how well it was playing out from a distance made him want to give the man his compliments.

When he walked towards the meeting point it was not difficult to spot the lone figure that was not Neimodian when he was looking for him. Malakai even now continued to keep his presence in the force masked to that of a normal being. At least, it would seem like he was not gifted in the force if they tried sensing him. He didn't care if people sensed he was a bad person. Being a jerk wasn't a crime.

"Sorry if I kept you waiting." He said when he was close enough to the Arcanist. Malakai looked at the view, seamlessly arriving beside what seemed like the galaxy's most wanted. The tips of his fingers ran together, remembering he was wearing a mask and couldn't smoke.

The Arcanist's hands were wrapped around the railing and he let his senses snake out across the planet, drinking it all in. The planet felt like an odd mix of Endor and Coruscant. People with their own desires and lives were packed into the city, but below was the forest, filled with the life of plants and animals. The two worlds were in such close proximity but never touched. It was an odd sensation.

He could feel someone else approaching, and if he hadn't been expecting a Knight of Ren, he wouldn't have paid much mind to the malicious personality coming toward him. He cast a quick glance over his shoulder to see that the presence seemed to be coming from the non-Neimodian, and it didn't take an astrophysicist to figure out this was who he was looking for.

He waved his hand to wave off the apology. It took some concerted effort to act in accordance with this persona rather than the more relaxed person he was outside of the mask. He looked over and saw the hoverboard the man was carrying, and his eyes lingered on it for a noticeable moment before he moved along.

I heard you took over the Knights. How has that been going? he asked. The Arcanist had taken quite the interest in spreading disinformation around the Sith Eternal despite his own personal feelings on the matter. It wasn't, therefore, completely unreasonable that he'd be curious about a group that seemed focused on doing the same. @Darasuum

Malakai inhaled and then let out a sigh of exasperation. He was not going to pretend like he was not a little disappointing. He said, shaking the mask on his face from side to side for a moment "Well let's just say there's plenty of room for new recruits." His free tapped the side of his thigh a little suddenly remembering he had told himself to not try and show too much appreciation for the Arcanist. Finally it rested, wrapping his gloved fingers around the railing, as if to be unintentionally mimicking the disguised Talak.

"But then again I think a lot of them were posers. Weren't contributing much and maybe there's a better chance at progress without them." Malakai wondered if it sounded more cut throat than he intended. It was his attempt at trying to find the silver lining with so few members remaining.

At least I get a cool name though. Cuga Ren. Meh, the Arcanist still sounds kinda better.

"I heard you took over the holo-net."
Malakai resisted the urge to look over his shoulder. "What made you interested in meeting?" The Grysk thought it was an operator of the Sith Eternal. The dark side was like a shadow that pulled in more shadows from around it. But his conscious mind, years of surviving on the streets and skepticism made him not entirely sure the being beside him was a friend. Yet

The Arcanist listened, curious about the status of the Knights. From the sound of things it was... underwhelming. He'd heard rumors that they'd fallen on hard times, but he had hope that perhaps there was still something to be salvaged there in the future.

Progress... he repeated quietly, more to himself than to Kai. It was an interesting word, and precisely the reason he had asked for this meeting.

Someone had to divert attention away from the... actions of Force users, he said. It was no secret that he was a member of the Sith Eternal, but the fact that they were such a... loosely affiliated organization, meant that things didn't often get around as they could. He wondered if it had even gotten around that he was promoted at all.

Progress is why I asked you here, actually, he said in answer to the question. Where do you see the Sith Eternal going? And your role in it? he asked. It was a very open ended question, but hopefully it would get the dialogue rolling. He had a great many thoughts on the matter, but the issue was to find people who were either likeminded or could at least be convinced to work with him toward the same goal. Those, however, were easier said than done in an organization where most had lost the focus on the true goals of what the Eternal Legions were. @Darasuum

The one that had been the cause of the Mimban Massacre, at least that was what some of the news reports called it, had gone quiet recently. But Malakai was not entirely sure that was a bad thing. The Arcanist talked about it serving a purpose as a distraction. That pretty much solidified the Grysk's hunch about who the masked man associated with when not manipulating the public.

"Hmm..." He did not answer Talak's question immediatly. He used his hoverboard to rub the side of his torso absent mindedly while he thought of the future. "The the way things are currently going? Well if you and I sat on our butts...I don't see very much." Things had been more or less the same for the past decade or more for the Sith Eternal had been stagnant. While The Eternal was comfortable sitting in the darkness of the unknown regions and letting things slowly play out Kai was not that patient.

The way The Arcanist had asked he question made the leader of Ren smile. It sounded like a job interview question of sorts. But that was partially why he mused at the query before replying further. "With us...possibly working together...I think anonymity can continue but with less of a commute. Malakai infered that the main composition of the Sith Eternal would not need to be headquartered so far apart from the rest of the galaxy and instead begin entangling the rest of the galaxy with a more central influence.

"I like the Hutt space...and I think the Five Syndicates have a pretty comfy set of chairs somewhere that could be occupied by some other people...sooner rather than later." It was perhaps the first time Malakai had hinted out loud that he was planning on taking over the Five Syndicates and using it as his own criminal empire. The enemies of the Sith Eternal would have to deal with the Syndicates, making it a proxy of the Sith Eternal to an extent.

While some people wanted to rule from the seat of the criminal underworld, Malakai's ambitions were more open minded. Cuga Ren, as he had dubbed himself shamelessly, was interested in more than just money. Power was power, all things considered. The Five Syndicates had drugs, weapons, wealth and people. It was far easier for someone like him to try to take over a criminal empire than start from the ground up. But as far as everyone else was concerned, he was some ghoulish looking spice dealer with a few extra connections or some masked leader of marauders.

"Sorry, dunno if that answers your question. How about you?"

The Acanist glanced sideways at Ren as he talked about the Syndicates. Taking over the Syndicates? He had mixed feelings on that idea. It might be the lesser evil to have them in control of the Syndicates, but the Arcanist was obviously interested in destroying crime rather than enforcing it. Still, even if they could banish the worst things like slavery and wanton murder, spice and smuggling might not be the worst things in the galaxy.

The Legions are about removing corruption and criminality, he said. It was a mostly true statement, and he wondered how Ren's plan worked within that goal.

And I want to turn the Sith against crime and the Syndicates. I don't think my position on the matter is any secret, he said. He was renowned for having destroyed Hutt palaces, arenas, and spice labs. His opinions were plain, which in and of itself may make the two working together incompatible.

And I want to use those purges as a springboard to launch us into helping - and eventually controlling - legitimate governments. Cut out the necrotic tissue at the source rather than wantonly destroy, he said and turned to look at the other man.

Show governments that allying with us frees them of the things that plague them now: murder, corruption, slavery, etc, he said. And now was the point where their discussion would likely either come to a head and dissolve or lay the foundations for something more. @Darasuum

Malakai's smile faded. The more he listened to the Arcanist the more he felt disappointed. The Arcanist. More like the Quixotic. Removing corruption from the galaxy was a bold ambition.

"Hmm..." The Grysk found he was not as bothered by that as he would have thought. Maybe he was having an introspective moment. Feelings are decisions feelings are bad decisions feelings are decisions In his head he felt like he was at the end of a long tunnel and there were people talking at the far end. Voices, but no words. The Legionnaire's grip tightened subconsciously on the railing for a moment.

Malakai wondered how bad it would be if he did not succeed in taking over the the five syndicates. Every day he thought about dying from one method or another. So if his life ended his plan would not be carried out. But I don't care about dying and that stuff not happening. Been coasting through the Sith Eternal so far. Could give respectable society a try. But that was just the personal side of it.

When he thought about the Arcanist's voiced ambitions it struck a chord in the Knight. He had to admire how high the man was reaching. It was bold and with how things were progressing he was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. "Well how quickly do you think we can accomplish galactic peace? I'm not really of a biological disposition to live like a wookiee." He didn't even say it in a mocking tone. It was his way of stating he was willing to alter his agenda if he had something worthwhile to back instead. Perhaps the Arcanist believed that other criminal groups wouldn't pop back up in the vacuum of the underworld. If he was going to be part of some plan then the Arcanist had to be ready for some critique from a colleague.

Talak could sense some sort of conflict in the other man and perhaps even disdain. If it bothered him that others were judging him, it didn't show externally. He was tired of putting aside his convictions for the sake of blending into an Order he wasn't even sure he believed in anymore.

Finally, he spoke up, and the answer was... more interested than he had anticipated.

He snickered a bit at first. I'm not so delusional as to assume that we're going to accomplish peace for the entire galaxy immediately, he said. They may not ever make it there, but that didn't mean it wasn't a goal to work toward. They certainly could start taking over portions of the galaxy.

But we could take over several sectors at least and once we have a legitimate government, that allows us to expand, he said.

I'd rather provide actual peace and security than destroy a world and hope for the best. Hoping for the best is a great way to fail. Wouldn't you agree? he said bluntly. And this was just one of his issues with the Sith Eternal. Control was a path to actually alter the galaxy for the better. @Darasuum

Even jungles have rot. It's just a matter of controlling it. He thought to himself looking at the green vegetation in the distance. The old ways were too restrictive. There was a balance in the force. But the Jedi had always a biased on the light side it would seem. The Shadow was balanced. It was fair.

"So you're planning on creating a federation of some sort or something? And then what? Be neighbor's with the FWA?" He was curious of the Arcanist's goal was to politically maneuver this. Publicity stunts and political espionage seemed like what he was doing thus far. Vigilantism too, though the efficiency would be questionable. It was easier in the childhood stories for the heroes to save the victims. Then again those were simpler and dramatized for a reason.

"Actually though, real talk. He paused for a moment to intentionally build some cliche suspense. "What's wrong with the Free World Alliance? I heard they're pretty liberated and all that? They've got the best platform for making a peaceful and secure galaxy." He knew that with his public reputation The Arcanist wouldn't be welcome in the FWA. But that did not mean the man underneath couldn't try and leave the Sith Eternal.

The Arcanist knew that the FWA was going to be one of the quickest ways to power, but infiltrating it wasn't going to be so easy. They would be on the lookout after the events of Darth Sidious's rise. While the Arcanist himself wouldn't be easily accepted in, that didn't mean that there couldn't eventually be an alliance. Far more heinous, genocidal leaders had been "accepted" in the past because of the power they held.

They won't welcome any of us with open arms initially, but that doesn't mean much. I'm in this to play the long game, he said. If we gain legitimacy in Outer Rim worlds of note, then we can move in from there, he said. Taris, Onderon, Serenno, and others were all potentially places to create an alliance of planets. Perhaps militarized and certainly interested in rooting out the most necrotic parts of the galaxy.

Why didn't he join the FWA?

We could start with the Free World Alliance, but after Sidious's infiltration, rising up wouldn't be so easy. And they're very loosely affiliated. We might be able to bring them together, but who's to say they even want to join something more centralized? It'd be easier if we started out with systems and then formed an association, he said. The reason it was an alliance and not a Republic was because of the autonomy they each seemed to crave.

He turned to look at the other man with a bit of curiosity. For someone who thought that the Arcanist's initially question had felt like an interview, he certainly had launched into a slew of his own. Not that the Arcanist minded. But ultimately, the system we're working with now, doesn't work, he said. They needed a change, and that was what he was after at the end of the day. @Darasuum

Did you catch that? He hasn't started yet. The dead girl's voice whispered in his head. Malakai didn't want to hear her right now. It would just distract him. But she had a point. The Arcanist made it sound like his political machinations were not underway. Less promising but not completely bad.

"The system can always be improved." Striving for something better was a never ending journey. But it was something everybody shared. Some were just better at making it happen than others. "What could I provide for this..." he tried to come up with a new name for the grouping of plants the Arcanist might orchestrate. That they might influence. "New Trade Federation?" They were on Cato Neimodia so maybe that's why he gave that example. The name could be workshopped.

Malakai had read up on the history of the CIS and the corporations, business dealings that decided the fates of planets. Money was a tool that could fast track any political agenda. "Have any specific places you'd want to start?" A slow look around indicated he was asking also if the Arcanist was expecting some kind of take over of Cato Neimodia too.

The Arcanist looked over at the Ren for a moment before looking out at the clouds of Cato once again. Peaceful and relaxing. It seemed like such an average place to be discussing such dangerous things. He considered a moment the Trade Federation's role in the past. Perhaps something similar wouldn't have been amiss.

We start at home, he said. It was the riskiest part, and he was acutely aware of the Ren's feelings as he said it. If the man was smart enough to be involved in this operation then he would pick up that the Arcanist was referring to a revolution within the Sith Eternal. It was the only way to do it. Instituting changes like this wouldn't be possible if they were working within the box laid down by the Eternal.

And that's where support comes in, he said. It was a form of networking. A conspiracy would probably be the better term, and he already had others on board with the idea. The more people who supported the vision, however, the greater the chance of success. Not that the Arcanist didn't have a plan B for massacring anyone who stood in his way. There was always a plan. @Darasuum

Malakai knew what the Arcanist meant when he said home. He meant he planned to clean house. The Grysk couldn't blame him. He was going to do it sooner or later so this masked man beside him was just beating him to the punch. "I like a man that understands getting his own biz in order." He commented to let the Arcanist know he understood. It was what he was doing with the Knights of Ren.

Thinking on it, he brought his hoverboard's edge up to the bottom of his mask and tapped it thoughtful. Then he began to chuckle softly. Underneath his mask the skullish face turned into an even more amused grin. "Sorry...I'm all about networking. A aspiring gambling kingpin the name of Ikraggo the Hutt, a mysterious slicer known as Spectre, that weird girl Alais, the Cathar gal Nashyr, Mob doctor Ilana Morata, he was starting to add up the number of people he had met and worked out connections with so far. Some were being worked on continually but still, he already had his foot in the door. It's just the beginning

The Arcanist of course was refering to people inside the Sith Eternal. A few people had his support though most of them were more direcly in support of him as Cuga Ren and not Malakai Beck. One of the reasons he had not worked with so many of his fellow dark siders was because of his desire to change the cult. "They say the carrot works better than the stick and I tend to agree. While I know plenty of people that might support us I think you might have to bring a bucket full of carrots and hide the stick." Showing how big, or little, your leverage was could prove detrimental. That was why he always gave everyone one chance. Threats were meant to cause fear. They didn't help with actually carrying out the threat. "Not to sound skeptical but I don't know if you'll convince many people that you've got a bigger stick than another certain masked electro-kinetic individual I know. So that means you've got to bring something else to the table." Fear wasn't going to work very well on the current ranks of the Sith Eternal. Not unless The Arcanist had something really terrifying.

The two of them seemed to have an understanding of some sort, and that was good enough for the Arcanist. He had no illusions about managing to pull in the entirety of the Sith Eternal for his plan, but the group wasn't that large as it was. Pulling in the handful of people he already had, the Knights of Ren, and the others who were being gathered by those he'd already pulled in would be enough to start with.

Networking properly focused can be a powerful tool, he said, and fully meant it. His own efforts had accumulated allies - and enemies - in all different walks. Those contacts could be used for a great many things.

He listened as the Ren mentioned that he would need carrots.

Hmm, he snorted almost amusedly. I'm not worried about not having a large enough stick, he said in a tone that said that he already had a definitive plan in place for that. And he did. He couldn't rely strictly on his own martial prowess, but he didn't have to. Toppling the Sith Eternal wouldn't be the most difficult part of this plan by a long shot.

But I'm not interested in showing off. I want to bring as many people to the cause as we can, and anyone else who opposes will be dealt with, he said. It was a pretty good indication that his interest wasn't in using his ace in the hole as a tool to incite terror. No one would know about it until they were hammered into the ground.

Which means, yes, something will need to pull people in. But with the mask's decisions lately have been... floundering at best, he said. Every word of what he was saying was, of course, treasonous, but he'd already come this far. Still, Ren brought up a good point. He would need to consider what would really draw people in if the Eternal were still alive. @Darasuum

As long as the Arcanist was comfortable with using the stick and had the follow through then that was fine by Kai. It wasn't a Sith belief that might made right. It was the law of nature.

He was glad to hear that the man did not have too great an ego. Though that was just talk. As far as he could see the man was in the spotlight. At least part of him. Furthermore he wasn't wrong about the Mask. At least, if he was talking about the Eternal. <We all leave a part of ourselves on the masks we wear.> He said to the man telepathically. He knew it was a change and not necessarily one that would be welcomed by the Arcanist. But part of the wilder Cuga Ren came to the surface trying to see if he had the power to bait the person behind that expressionless surface. He also wanted to make sure whomever was behind the Arcanist's mask would remember those words. That was for their mind alone. Something no listening device or eavesdropper could possibly hear.

Provided the man didn't take the bait Malakai would continue. "Let that be a code or something in case we need it for something in the future." His tone suddenly changing back to a nice and accommodation tone like a relaxed host. Malakai's words indicated he was interested in whatever the man was cooking up. "So if I'm to guess, based on what you've said so far here...that you didn't intend like, known. Cuz real talk you made due pretty well with what happened. But if you're not interested in stirring up trouble publicly then know I'm in the same boat. I like rollin on the down low, ya know? Just every crowd I fit in with tends to be the kind that oppose or combat one authority or another." He of course was referring to both the Knights of Ren and what he did when wearing his faces. Kark....it's been a minutes since I was the lonely shepard. Not since I saw that white haired punk on Naboo. Wonder if I can track him down and bring him into the Knights.

He heard the voice suddenly inside his head, and he stiffened slightly. He knew that in order to pierce deeper into the Arcanist's mind the man would have to do a great deal more than that, which was why he didn't react with any particular aggression. However, his head did crane to the side to look at Ren. The mask was expressionless and it wasn't clear if it was anger or not.

He didn't say anything, though, and went back to looking at the distant clouds. The words weren't wrong, and the Arcanist wondered what impressions the Ren had left on his own mask.

It depends on what you mean by "known." Pretending like there isn't a dark side sect in the galaxy strangles our influence, he said. The Eternal's obsession with secrecy was proving to be a detriment although the Arcanist understood the intention behind it.

But we certainly shouldn't be galavanting around and advertising where to find us. At least not until we have multiple systems under our control, he said. There would be a time for more public action perhaps, but it wasn't yet. The rise of the first Sith from the exiles was a prime example based on the Arcanist's research. They were a slowly invasive force until, when they were revealed, they were too potent to stop. @Darasuum

"Of course there's a dark side sect..." He said with a smile and made it obvious he was talking about the Knights of Ren. That was what they were there for, to be a distraction, an enemy for the galaxy. At least for now. "But you're talking about openly creating an alliance between planets under a singular banner united with the Shadow." The cult of the Sith Eternal had spread and its members were on numerous planets. But as far as Malakai knew most of them were not in positions of power and lacked influence in the important decision making of planets and systems.

"You don't want conquest then?" He asked rhetorically. Cuga Ren nodded the masked face. His mind went back to other institutions that had grown. Despite not liking regimented education, the Grysk had done his fair share of learning older organizations and military powers. "These days credits are what keep people happy whether they like it or not. They pay for basic necessities. Imports, exports, quality of life, military power, you get the idea. Nations don't hold sway, not unless they've got a corporate backing or the wealth the stand on their own."

Malakai took a deep breath the more he thought about it. "You need a reason to be where you want to be. That means you need a politician...or a CEO." That was the minimum from Malakai's point of view. Business never ceased regardless of the state of the galaxy. Trades still needed to be made, goods distributed, war was great for business. "Once you've got that then you can make sure whatever alliance you want can start working towards eliminating evil from the galaxy."

Eventually conquest, maybe. But not yet. We hardly have the manpower, he said. The goal wasn't an easy one to define because it would depend on the nature of how the galaxy responded. Flexibility would be a critical element.

A CEO? The Arcanist had no illusions about being a businessman. He'd be a better politician, and that was saying something. He could get others to be the politicians for him. The puppetmaster didn't have to be the one in the spotlight.

There are plenty of systems that would pay through the nose for security. Freedom. They sound good, and it's even better if you can deliver on them, he said. Take a world that was the most corrupted by crime and offer them the chance to be free from it, and many would leap at it. Those who wanted to stay with the status quo could be dealt with.

He pushed himself away from the railing and turned.

Call it all the start of a new Empire. In its infancy, he said. That was precisely what it was. He had begun to study the writings about the old Empress Andraste and how she'd started out. The people had loved her. They wanted to be in the Empire. Someday, perhaps, they would be in a similar boat, but getting there reqiured work, and lots of it.

But when the tides start shifting... I hope to see you pick the right side, he said. And that was really all there was to say. Change was coming, and he'd like to salvage as much of the Sith Eternal as he could. The leadership couldn't be saved, but its members... had great potential.

Unless the Ren had something more to say, he and the Arcanist would part ways. It was one more step toward the great Sith revolution. @Darasuum

"...peace, freedom, justice, and security...to a new...empire." He smirked underneath his mask thoughfully. That sounds familiar. His brow furrowed as he struggled to remember where he had read it. But then gave up as he realized it hardly mattered.

When the Arcanist made it clear he was done with their meeting Malakai straightened up. Reaching into a pocket he pulled out a commlink. "So is this the part where we get eachothers binstaframe or tweeter?" He said with obvious jest. Considering how cautious and thoughtful the Arcanist had been thus far he would wait a moment before continuing if he did not feel like giving out his commlink information. "Seriously though here." He held out the commlink, it had two contacts preprogrammed. The first was in aurebesh and it say 'CR', obviously meaning 'Cuga Ren'. The second simply said 'Feeling Lucky'. If the man didn't take it then the Grysk would just set it on the railing. "Let me know if you need something."

Turning on his heel Malakai would walk away from the disguised Talak. Before going out of sight he tossed his hover board forward and carved his way around the corner. Time to go see if I break any bones today He needed to find a hover board shop so he could modify his plank.
