Max had made sure that he had left his weapons on his ship back at the spaceport, including his stun weapons. There wasn't any need to carry a weapon when he and his ally were walking into the headquarters of the Sector Rangers in the middle of the day and they had made sure to actually call ahead. Two Jedi walking into the offices and demanding to see their imprisoned ally was just stupid.

Two Jedi showing up for an arranged appointment and patiently cooling their heels in the waiting area sent a much better message as far as Max was concerned. Max and Hannibal were sat on some rather uncomfortable chairs at the moment though.

"This looks like a good operation here."
Max noted with a smile as he looked around the headquarters, "Looks like it's running like a well oiled machine... honestly we might be able to learn something from them if this is the state of their affairs."

A pair of rangers came towards them and Max raised a hand in greeting to them and stood from his chair as they approached.

"Sir, please be still while we search you for weapons."

They raised a scanner and Max stayed still as he was scanned and found to be carrying nothing that could be considered a weapon. The rangers in question did a good job of seemingly not relaxing. They either weren't worried before or they were good at not letting it show. Either way, they would scan Hannibal as well before they made their call to their superiors to let them know the two Jedi were ready to proceed.

Following the lead and quite insistent instructions of the older Jedi, a man quite literally twice his own age, Hannibal left all his various gear and weapons behind on his ship. He was also unarmored, dressed only in a stylish suit he'd put together for the occasion of visiting Ranger headquarters. First impressions matter, if either of his parents were to be believed, and he'd never had a terrible fondness for the robes some chose to wear. Though the arrest and specific charges were worrisome, Hannibal still couldn't quite keep a small smirk off his face it seemed. Though it might just be stuck that way at this point.

But for things like this, Hannibal was all for peaceful talks and making a good impression. No reason to make law enforcers more suspicious than they already were, after all, if peace was really the goal and not simply the enforcing of laws on its own. He figured he'd trust Max on this one, since he had more personal experience with that sort of thing. They could stand to get better chairs though. "Very clean." he noted in response to Max, noting all possible exits from the room as he looked around. "Please don't suggest we need more paperwork. I hate paperwork." He was mostly kidding, but really, if the Council tried to instill a need for paperwork in triplicate he may riot.

As the scanning began he stood, smiling cheerfully at the officers and placing his gloves in his outer jacket pocket as he left the chair, keeping still as they asked. Nothing more than things beyond identification, licenses, a cigarra pack and a completely ordinary lighter. Clean and good to go. After he dropped his arms he grinned a little, looking over at Max. "I bet he looks terrible in orange."

Trys was genuinely curious about meeting more Jedi. She had only technically met two, and one of them was the ‘Jedi Master’ she arrested. Trys had expected Jedi to follow up on the arrest, and it was clear Oren was important to them. She also knew that the Syndicates would be interested in his capture as well, Durr having been incensed since the death of his son.

As the two Jedi were going through security, Trys stepped out into the open to receive them. They would recognize her from Holonet, and she was in uniform once more. She always wore a jacket as well to cover up her full sleeve tattoos while on the job. Trys watched them come through, noting the officers patting them down and ensuring they had nothing on them.

‘They’re always armed,’ Trys thought quietly, her gaze shifting from one of the older Jedi to the younger one, ‘Always at their disposal,’ The Force was a dangerous and mysterious thing, and it was one of the few things in the galaxy that she found unsettling. None of her mistrust showed externally, and she walked towards them.

“Welcome,” She said with a faint smile, reaching out to shake their hands, “I’m Sector Ranger Trys Aran,” Trys gestured for them to follow her, “Jedi Master Zapa will be moved from this facility shortly in order to put him somewhere more secure,” And to also to prevent retaliation from his kind, she didn’t add aloud.

She wouldn’t broach any other topic with the Jedi unless they proactively led it that way. Trys had thrown the ball in their court. These men had done nothing wrong, and she wouldn’t question them. She led them down a narrow corridor and through several different hallways down into the underground levels.

At the end of one of the corridors was a single cell that housed Oren. He was in solitary confinement for now, but he had been permitted to leave his cell many times for good behavior. Trys gestured the visitors towards the cell, and she stood a few feet back. They would need to discuss whatever they wanted to discuss in front of her - Trys wasn’t going to take any chances for them to pull anything. Cameras were running on all sides, and guards were on standby in case they tried anything.

"Speak verbally please," Trys told them, "I'm aware of your telepathic abilities, and will be able to tell if you're just standing and staring at him."

Max imagined that Oren did, in fact, look rather out of sorts in a prison uniform but that wasn't something they would see yet. Hopefully their friend was being treated well and was in good spirits. If not? Well that would give them some insight into just what kind of investigation this was likely to be. He was honestly hopeful that this was going to be done all above board and without any of the corruption that had been so rife on his home-world.

Smiling openly at the ranger who came to greet them, he shook her offered hand politely as he listened to what she had to say. Oren being moved was, in all honesty, expected and prudent. He nodded in understanding.

"Maxims Tionson, Jedi Knight."
he greeted her before adding, "Sorry that we are meeting under such circumstances but a pleasure to meet you all the same."

As they were escorted towards Oren's cell he spoke up.

"Were you part of the team that apprehended him? If so I would very much like it if you were part of our conversation, to give us the perspective of an outsider to the Order."
he frowned slightly, "We have a history of being insular that hasn't helped us in the past and we're trying to change that."

Reaching the cell, he nodded in understanding to Trys before smiling a little bit at the sight of Oren through the cell door. It wasn't a grin so much as a light smile at seeing his friend again.

"Oren."
he greeted him, speaking loudly enough to be heard through the door and by the ranger, "Before we get onto the matters of grave importance; how are you, Oren? Your injuries not giving you any trouble?"

He needed to know.

He had tried to be the good cop surrounded by the dirty before he was a Jedi and now one of his allies was at the mercy of a police force. He needed to know that what he hoped was true, that the Sector Rangers were not going to be anything like that.

Days in the containment facility had this nasty habit of melting together, one would simply fall into another until it was days or weeks at a time. Being surrounded by grey and white walls, with little natural light did damper him a bit, but not enough to break the master--the conditions were far better than those he faced as a slave.

In truth he hoped that the order would have turned their backs against him, consider him a rogue, it would have been far easier to do so. So when he learned that he was getting a visit, his heart had nearly sunk. Bloody fools, I brought this on myself..and now you. His hands had been bound in a set of elctro-cuffs. He wore a form fitting orange coveralls, with numbers stitched across the breast. He seemed fine and in good condition, though the Knight would find that his once pristine face had been riddled with craters across the right side of his cheek, which extended up towards his now milky white eye.

"Maxims," he'd say with a gentle nod, his mind shifting back to that day on the dirty river bank, the two of them working together to help the citizens of Eraidu. His eye would shift towards the younger knight, smiling at his sight, the last to gain his attention was Trys, "Officer, I hope you're well."

He would move his bound hands towards his lap as he leaned back in his seat, "I'm fine, the food is a little rough, the inmates are eccentric, but they keep me company," he'd say with a slight chuckle. "..I'm sorry you had to come here, I put you all in a tough spot." He'd say in a somber tone.

Hannibal gave the officer that came to meet them a brief once over, getting a feel for her and taking note of her jacket and uniform. How one dressed could tell a lot about them after all. He smiled in that charming way he did, the kidding grin evaporating away the moment she'd shown up through the doors, firmly shaking her hand with a small bow of the head. "Hannibal Grayza, Jedi Knight." He ended it there, as otherwise he would just be repeating what the other knight had said, and he'd promised to keep his flirtation nature to himself this time. She was, at least, prettier in person.

He also let Max do the speaking along the way down the corridor, instead choosing to keep a small, polite smile plastered on his face and look casually around at the place. It was quite well run, if still essentially a prison. He did very much like cleaner facilities, it showed they actually cared a little. He may have some distrust of law enforcement, but if the sense he was getting off of some of the personnel he was getting was what he thought it was, that feeling was probably mutual. The Jedi were a bit too mysterious for their own good.

He nodded to Oren when they arrived, smile widening. He waved his left hand in a casually dismissive manner in response to the imprisoned Jedi's apologies. "There is no reason we wouldn't show up, Oren. Don't worry about such things." The man looked alright, if a bit out of place, especially in that jumpsuit. Orange definitely wasn't his color. It was very strange to see a Jedi like Oren bound up in a cell, and a little uncomfortable, but he felt it was something that could be remedied with enough time and conversation. Everyone here was basically on the same side, in the end. More or less. He did hope the arresting officer would participate in this, as otherwise it would feel awkward, and there was already enough of that as is.

Trys was pleasantly surprised at the Jedi Knight Maxims’ openness to include her in the conversation. She nodded her head at his question, “I arrested him at the scene on Naboo,” Trys confirmed, “The headquarters are here, and Naboo has allowed his extraction back here,” Given the recent authority granted to the Sector Rangers, they had far more pull now in dealing with offworld prisoners.

She watched their interactions with Oren briefly, turning over to simply jut her chin towards him in greeting. Trys had no qualms with standing there silently, or participating. Her primary duty was to ensure they didn’t step out of line, and she wanted to observe them for her personal reasons as well.

“The Naboo incidents are still under investigation, and we haven’t drawn any conclusions yet,” Trys explained to the two Jedi, “Jedi Master Zapa, however, has confessed to the mutilation and dismemberment of the victims down in the lower districts.”

So he had one of the first respondents in the same hallway? That was excellent. Stories got embellished the further away from the actual event a person was through no one's fault so getting a primary source like Trys was a major win in Max's eyes. It was interesting that the rangers were being given more powers across planets as well.

Probably something that had been needed for some time, no doubt, but interesting in it's timing because of it. He rubbed idly at his beard as he looked over Oren.

"Last time I met you, Oren, you had both eyes."
he noted with a small shrug, "Sorry if that's a tad blunt; did he have the wound when you arrived Ranger Aran?"

Taking the eye of a skilled Jedi like Oren was something of a feat. Whoever had managed it likely would be someone of interest in the case if Oren hadn't dismembered them. He grimaced at the mention of the mutilation and dismemberment. His own views on lightsabers and their use was well known in the Order; it was his opinion that if you drew one you were either defending the innocent or you had failed to resolve a situation without the worst kind of violence.

The kind that tended to be all too final.

"I won't ask if you did it Oren - you say you did it and I believe you did the deed. What I do want to know is the Why of the matter. Why did you attack those people?"

The why hardly ever excused the action in Max's opinion but it gave a much better understanding of the situation.

Oren would listen silently as the officer and the Jedi spoke about the legal matters of his case. It was true that the Naboo case was still under investigation, he had done his best to save as many people in that scenario, but even he was human. The scenario often played out in his mind as he rested, the fate of trillions possibly laid in the balance, his inaction. She had placed the blade in his hand, against her gut, he could have ended it then, but he didn't--it didn't feel right, it wasn't the Jedi way.

A small smile would form on the worn master's face as Maxims mentioned his look, "I received these wounds on Naboo," he would say softly, "I encountered the apprentice of the Arcanist, she goes by the name The Rain, I tried to stop her when I caught her igniting a blade in the streets..." His eye would shift towards the floor for a moment, "She saved my life, and then she placed her blade in my hand and asked me to kill her, she stepped into the blade waiting. I could she opened up her memories to me...I saw a man, who looked like the Arcanist, torturing her on Endor, her life on Nar Shaddaa and at the moment I realized that she was forced into a life that maybe she didn't want to be in. So.." This was going to sound really stupid.

"I held her in my arms, and she cried. I showed my memories, the bad things I've done and how we can recover from them, if you're willing to accept the consequences...Her hand was placed on my cheek, and at the moment something snapped in her, and she burned my face with that hand..The fight barely lasted much longer and I believe she escaped." He'd say with a sigh, knowing how terrible it all sounded.

Then Max asked him about the incident on Coruscant, the one that felt like a decade ago. "You know very well what I preach Max," his words took a hint of firmness that he rarely showed, "We aide the poor, help the sick, and in the case of the defenseless we step in and we help.." He'd shake his head, "I was on Coruscant when I found a girl, running from six men, all armed with blaster arms. I decided follow, and found her cornered in an alleyway, what was I supposed to do? Just stand there, turn my head, call for authorities? She would have been one of those countless unknown faces sitting on the walls outside her station. So I did I what I had to, I ignited blade, and they fired on me. I took shot to the shoulder, but I made sure to only wound them, not kill them." He would pause as he took a deep breath.

"I'm not saying it's right, I accept my crimes, even if I followed the code, this is the law, this is what I preach--that our actions are ripples through the ocean of the force. But, that girl I saved is now one of our brightest young students, Lyra.." He thought of the girl, everyone that he had come to know and love, "Work this officer, the people she has in place, don't let the others act foolish and brash like I did...For so long I tried to solve these crimes and problems by myself. It's going to take a galaxy of citizens doing the right thing the right way, by working together to stop these threats of darkness...don't do it like me, I beg of you."His mind shifted to Nara, concerned how his young student, the girl who he saw as his own daughter, how she was fairing with the news. He knew nothing he was going to say could save him, he brought this on himself and his friends.

Trys listened to Oren spell out every detail of everything on Naboo, conveniently leaving out anything about the diplomat’s death. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest, leaning against the nearby wall as she listened to everything, chewing some gum to keep the nicotine craving at bay while she had to be stuck here. By the end of it, she was less than pleased.

“Oh don’t make yourself sound like some saint,” Trys cut in, “You had every means of incapacitating the attackers. I know what kind of powers the Force can give you. You could have taken them all down and knocked them out and then called the authorities,” Trys wasn’t going to buy his half assed story when there were facts and proof to be considered, “Instead you sliced off legs, left those men dismembered and mutilated on the ground and rode off into the sunset with the damsel you saved,” She had the most unamused look on her face, blowing a small bubble with the gum and popping it, “If you’re going to get into theatrical details like how the Arcanist’s apprentice, a known criminal in case you forgot, caressed your cheek and stared into your eyes, you should also include other crucial details for what happened on Coruscant.”

It was clear that Trys didn’t have the highest opinion of the prisoner, but she was also a woman that operated with facts instead of feelings and emotions. She didn’t pretend to understand how Force users operated, but she had seen its application enough to be able to smell bantha shit from a mile away.

Ah, he was wrong. It was awkward anyway. Max had asked a very prudent question, and Oren had given an appropriately Oren answer. Throughout his lengthy explanation, Hannibal could literally feel the awkwardness. Of course, when the Arcanist was mentioned it got his attention, his polite smile unwavering but his eyes locked onto Oren's face. Now he was definitely paying attention. Hannibal had by now met the Arcanist twice, both times in conflict that didn't particularly go anywhere productive, learning very little about the masked pain the ass. He'd become the focus of Hannibal's personal investigative efforts, a challenge to be conquered and a curiosity to be sated. Plus, he kept blowing things up, which Hannibal was mostly against.

Then came the bit about a young woman being chased, and the de-limbing by plasma blade that followed. This is exactly why Hannibal's personal style favored stun weaponry, as most planets have laws about excessive retaliation in self defense even if every third person is carrying weapons around. He couldn't entirely fault the guy for going full Jedi on them, but the idea of chopping off limbs gave him significant pause, a dislike of violence that'd stuck from one of his more significant teachers while he was still a Padawan.

He was about to say something when the overseeing officer came up with a reply of her own, seeming to berate Oren over his personal choices. Hannibal found himself mostly agreeing with her assessment regarding the thugs, managing to hide a brief grimace as he looked on. He was starting to wish people were allowed to smoke indoors. All this tension was going to give him a headache.

He turned to look at the officer, finally choosing to speak up in a way that wasn't some pleasantry or other, after a brief pause in the awkward air. "Do you happen to have a decent description of this student of the Arcanist's, Ranger Aran? The sooner he and his associates are found and locked away, the better for everyone. Perhaps we could compare notes?" Not the most subtle attempt to move things away from the limb-chopping and towards some practical business, but he didn't think this was really the right time or crowd for subtlety. He also didn't have it in him to defend Oren's choices, not least because he wasn't there and he couldn't judge how he would act in either scenario, but he at least didn't want the Ranger to come away from this meeting thinking all Jedi were some sort of mindless vigilantes who took it on a personal challenge to laser-blend as many criminals into their component bits as possible. Besides, Max seemed like the sort who was better as comforting people. Something about the beard, maybe.

Most of the time Max didn't really understand a lot of the criticism levied at the Jedi Order by the Galaxy as a whole. Especially in regards to giving people a second chance and ensuring that justice was not always equated to death. But sometimes, just sometimes... he really understood where people were coming from when they said that the Jedi Order was too soft. And this was coming from a man who refused to kill anyone even in battle!

He took a deep breath.

"Well then you deserved your wounds, for being so unbearably naive."
he remarked bluntly before running a hand over his face, "Sorry. That... sounded harsh but I'm not going to take it back. You hugged a murdering terrorist Dark Side user after her moment of lucidity led her to plead for you to end her life. After she all but showed you that she wanted to end the taint of the Dark Side with ultimate finality... and you got burned for it."

Forgiveness and giving someone a second chance at life were great. But the first thing any cop learned was that you couldn't help anyone if you were dead yourself and Oren had left himself wide open for that reprisal from a Dark Side user. And this was after the Jedi Order as a whole had been warned that people using the Dark Side were on the rise again!

At the point about the men on Coruscant he let the ranger speak before simply pointing to her.

"A Force-blind just gave you the answer as to what would have been better. We discussed this as an Order, Oren, changing our views so that we think of a saber as a last resort not the first... but I'm not here to make you feel worse or to drill into you that a bit of creativity would have meant you weren't in this mess."
he admitted with a small smile, "But Hannibal has a point. Your actions on Coruscant aside, the actions of the Arcanist and their pupil are of pressing concern to our Order and to the case of the red saber users."

He turned to the ranger again.

"For our the legal side of things... what is Oren being charged with in full? Just so we can present it to the Order formally and seek legal council."

Even super warrior monks needed lawyers from time to time and this seemed like a good time.

Oren would tilt his head slightly, as he raised a brow towards the outburst from the officer. She had a point, but he couldn't help but think about Nara--force be damned, I hope she doesn't yell at me like this when she's older. But, at this point it seemed like they had been running in circles at this point, he chopped them up, and could have tried something else, but he didn't.

"This happened before our little council meeting," he'd say though he knew it meant little. Though Max's comments seemed a bit out of the ordinary from the man. Yeah, most people wouldn't have hugged that girl, that was true. But, he wasn't going to strike her down in cold blood, doing such a thing would have left him with a shiver of the darkside, "I was going to take her in, but it seems we're here now.."

He'd sigh, looking to get the attention drawn off of himself, he accepted his crimes, whether he felt it was justified or not. "At the end of the day, my concern should not be the focus..I told the officer here to give me whatever punishment her courts justify, I don't need legal council." He'd grunt, his old stubbornness starting to rear its head, "Instead, I would expect the order to oust me and try and make amends with these people..force knows that the two sides should be working together on this."

Trys let all the talk play out before she addressed the questions directed at her. First, she turned to Hannibal and shook her head, “We don’t have anything beyond what’s in the footage. We know it’s a female, but she like her master is quite good at concealing her identity,” Trys didn’t see the point in masks and infamy - to her it was cowardly - but she couldn’t pretend to understand criminals.

She turned next to Maxims, quirking an eyebrow, “Your legal side of things?” She asked with curiosity, “Are there Jedi lawyers?” Trys had to bite her lip not to smile in amusement. Nevertheless, she wouldn’t insult them, “At most he will be charged with assault. It shouldn’t be too bad of a sentence because it is true that he acted in defense.”

Trys turned to look at Oren then, hearing him once again deflect all attempts to help him. She shook her head. She truly didn’t understand this man and his wannabe saintly ways. However, she couldn’t help but begrudgingly admire it privately. He’d never know that, of course.

“We don’t have enough evidence from Naboo to charge him or the masked woman,” Trys shrugged, “So it wouldn’t be fair to tack that to his record.”

Hannibal tried his best not to look disappointed, achieving it with mild success, but he suppose it would make sense for the student of this Arcanist fellow to be wearing a mask in public. A face would be traceable. He personally would've liked to find surveillance linking the masked fellow to a ship, but that would require some extra work and Naboo wasn't known for its street cameras.
His frustration with mask-wearing dark siders aside, Oren's general attitude was a little irritating on its own. Hannibal was getting the impression of a sulking teenager more than a saint, namely from the latter half of his statement. He sure is insistent on the Order abandoning him, this guy.

Hannibal would love to give him an earful on his opinions on the matter, but that would have to be put aside for now. At least he was taking his punishment fairly well. He turned back to the officer, feeling slightly vindicated that Oren wasn't being charged with murdering a noble. It seemed these Sector Rangers were doing their job.
"Well, that's something, though some evidence pointing somewhere would be idea." Privately he wondered if these masked maniacs had some kind of help or something to constantly avoid scrutiny, or if they were just good enough to not get caught. Of course he never would have expected hugging and crocodile tears to be among a saber-wielding terrorist's skillset, but if it worked...

He turned briefly to the older Knight.
"So what's the plan from here?" he asked, turning again to the ranger. "I personally would be happy to be of assistance to the Rangers regarding investigations into the Arcanist, should it be welcome." The offer was genuine. The more people worked to look into these individuals the better, so they might as well work together. He wasn't going to try and force his help, though. He could always stick to his work on the smuggler's moon in the end.

Not having any leads on the identity of the two Dark Siders was disappointing but it wasn't surprising. If he was going to go around risking his neck to bring back a deadly cult with a track record for backstabbing and death he would ensure the face of the organisation was a mask as well.

Made it harder to tell just how it was going based on who was the leader when the leader was an unfeeling mask that could be worn by literally any humanoid without giving away a change. He smiled a little bit at Trys however.

"Jedi lawyers? Pretty sure you need to be using the Dark Side to be a lawyer but I'm sure we can stretch our expenses to cover a court case." he shook his head at Oren, "The Order isn't going to abandon you, Oren so you can stop trying to get us to 'forget about you to save ourselves'. We will respect your wishes and those of the courts regardless of what verdict is reached but we'll be here for you no matter what."

If that meant visiting him in prison then Max himself would make time to visit his ally on at least a semi-regular basis. Probably to keep him in the loop and play some chess with the man if nothing else. When he was asked what the play was? Max thought about it for a moment before nodding.

"We would like to offer the services of the Order in aiding your investigation to whatever extent you are able, and willing, to allow Ranger Aran." he agreed with Hannibal before meeting her gaze, "Off the record? We want to help you, to strengthen our ties to the free peoples of the Galaxy but we, as an Order, understand a lack of trust. As a Knight myself, I can pledge myself to be at the disposal of the Sector Rangers in whatever capacity your offices would see fit."

And even further off the record? Even if the Sector Rangers wanted to claim the investigation solely as their own, it wouldn't be.
