First thing that comes to mind is the lightsaber shorting out, then resorting to garroting your opponent with the power chord.

All light-sabers should be replaced with the really old ones that had to be wired up to an energy pack.

Retro SWRP.

Yeah, cuz normal lightsabers are too mainstream.

Huh. That explains why the Dark Jedi left the Jedi Order.

"What do you mean I shouldn't slowly choke my opponent to death?"

then those darn lightsabers had to get compact and forced the dark jedi to develop other ways of strangling people. and that kids is how the force choke was created.

On a - totally! - related note, I just came up with the perfect lightsaber design for my next character.
It slices; it dices; and best of all, it makes sure you'll never suffer another bad hair day...

Because we all now how a Padawan's braid is a fashion statement!

@MockaDash I have wanted one of those so badly for years. I just can't justify the $60 or whatever they cost. Or random people pointing and laughing. But those are awesome looking!

It be funny to see someone have a saber staff that use the cross guards kylo ren uses for his single saber

Plus, it helps you find your car keys at night!
Here are some other designs that I'm sincerely considering:

Great video on lightsabers here, from starwars.com. And they even note that the Dark Saber is "one of a kind". I'd call that a canon answer to our debate earlier, no?

If someone already hit on this then I apologize.

There is a lot of lore that revolves around crystals. Most of the crystals used at the time of this new timeline were actually colorless until the Jedi imbues it with the force. This action gives it color. So it is entirely possible that all colors we see in the EU could be used. But hey, I'm just the new guy. So what do I know?

I know the dark saber is one of a kind but how/why it is so unique i'm not sure. Traditionally i beliebe they are cylindrical in nature but the dark saber is designed in almkost a flattened single edge. This is just for appearances as it is still pure energy though perhaps it would face some differences when going against cortosisweave materials or something else lightsaber resistant but ultimatly weakened after repeated attacks. I think it would be cool to open up the porential (the rare) creation of other similar (but not the same) style of lightsaber in that they appear to have a more defined blade allowing straight-bladed katana or ninjato style blades.

People are going to want their fancy colors regardless. Though I would recommend obtaining the more exotic colors through hard work and roleplay.

I agree any color shpuld be obtainable. It helps provide a sense of personality to the character too. A unique and individual aspect to it when you can customize your saber to your specific characters profile.

Been RPing and into Star Wars lore for many years, but did not know that. It makes how almost every Sith has a red lightsaber logical.

that's because most sith crystals are not actually natural crystals. they are synthetic and used in an ancient alchemy ritual that palpatine used most prominently. but those actually had special properties which in this site we aren't going to do. simple color choice is all that matters for crystal choice. but i'm assuming a natural crystal can become any color so long as the user imbues it. red doesn't have to be evil or malicious necessarily either. basically here it's all aesthetic.

As far as I'm aware, that's Legends material I think, so in this Timeline there are no such things as synthetic crystals, just kyber crystals that are colourless and then change when imbued.

@Thump @Talon maara @Aluminum Falcon It has already been discussed on this thread that while in Legends Sith used synthetic crystals that made their lightsabers red, all crystals in Canon are Kyber; also yes, they lacked color until they were chosen by a Force sensitive. There is no (apparent) color restriction on Canon, so I believe any color is possible depending on each particular individual's - let's call it - affinity with the crystal.
I'm not correcting you guys just reinforcing what you said.

@Marcus @Darasuum Based on what I said, I think it's totally possible for someone to have a LS with a black blade. As was pointed out however, the darksaber is much more than a regular LS with a black colored blade. I think it would be a waste of a good plot device to allow everyone to state that their PCs has a darksaber; like with highlanders, regarding darksabers, there should be only one! XD

P.S.: @Marcus On the vid it was - jokingly - said that Gungi should be careful around fire. It made me wonder; Huyang stated that the Brylark tree's wood was as strong as metal. That's not the same as being impervious to fire, though. Do you guys think that the LS's hilt could actually burn?

thanks for addressing everything prior to this quote and i don't want to butt in on a question but i think the firefighter in me want you to know even metal can burn and that shiz is hard to put out. XD

My bad, you're totally right. Because metals are inherently good heat conductors, they rarely reach their ignition temperature. I thought metal burning was a rare occurrence on "normal" day-to-day and mostly reserved to factories, car crashes, train wrecks, etc.

If I may ask, you being a firefighter, how common is that?
