Hollastin. It did not possess the notoriety of Nar Shaddaa or the influence of Nal Hutta, but it was a planet in Hutt Space that rested along two Trade Hyperspace lanes. As a minor trade world, it had enough of a population to have a thriving civilization, but still had plenty of space to expand and grow. To Zentripoli, it was the perfect site for Zeno Droid Technologies to go to the next level…

Suslii City
Continent of Suslii
Planet of Hollastin
Airspeeders hummed past overhead. All manner of aliens were out in the streets during midday, hawking their wares, trying to make the next credit. In Hutt Space, most of the worlds possessed some degree of control by the Hutt Cartels. In truth, such control on Hollastin was in name only. Trade and economics were king on Hollastin. The ruling Triumvirate of the planet did not take kindly to individuals interrupting trade. After all, the Triumvirate taxed all transactions—no matter the transaction. As long as the government was given their due, they didn’t care what kind of business came through their planet. Even slaving made its way through Hollastin, but this was deep in the shadows. After all, the Triumvirate couldn’t have their name sullied…

The Five Syndicates were taking hits and slowly being diminished across the galaxy. With the rise of the Sector Rangers, law enforcement had become crime prevention. Many of the syndicates were drying up and having issues with credit flow…but that was not the case with the Crymorah Syndicate. Those in the know of the Crymorah families took this downturn as an opportunity to press harder in the areas where law enforcement was not looking. One of these approaches was to build-up their legitimate businesses, shell companies, and other rackets that were off the Sector Rangers’ radar.

This is what brought Pidge, Vipe and Zentripoli to become odd bedfellows. While they knew of one another in the syndicate, they were now forced to work together a bit more for the sake of the families. While Suslii City was very supportive of new businesses within their borders, nothing was free and everything had a price. Some prices were straightforward and some were not so simple. Zentripoli had found the site that was perfect for the manufacturing plant of Zeno Droid Technologies, but the Shell Hutts that ruled Suslii knew that the Columi wanted that land and those buildings, so they were going to get their due.

The Shell Hutts were fairly straightforward in what they wanted from Zentripoli:

1. Business License for Suslii City
2. Permit to Produce Restricted Products of War
3. Negotiate “Tax” with the Shell Hutts of Suslii City

Zentripoli knew this was just the way of things. However, the rulers of Suslii City liked businesses to be airtight in the face of scrutiny from outsiders, so they ensured that all manufacturers at least appeared on the “up and up”. The Columi asked for Pidge and Vipe to help him in meeting these demands. The Columi reserved a large suite for the three of syndicate members, so they could “gameplan” how to approach the Shell Hutts’ demands.

Sitting atop his hovering Boost droid, Zentripoli began, “My thanks for aiding me in this endeavor. I will ensure to make room on the ZDT Advisory Board for the both of you, if you so desire…”

Pause.

“My first thought on approaching the business license is find who can push us through and squeeze. On the permit for weaponry production, I think we need to get Pidge to a terminal where she can slice us a permit. It takes too long and undergoes too much scrutiny for a legitimate route. Finally, we will have to appeal and negotiate with the council of Shell Hutts that run Suslii city to see how much ‘protection’ tax we will have to pay…”

Pidge plopped down on the couch in probably the least graceful way possible. The suite was nice, or atleast, she had not lived in such luxury since her father’s injury at the bacta plant. She knew full well her childish joy from the sprawling suit was ridiculous. She was here to work, not laze in comfort. Still, she couldn’t help but let a smile flicker across her face as she gazed at the polished windows and mirrors, the thick carpeted floor, and pillow soft furniture. The walls were trimmed with a beautiful crimson-mahogany wood.

Pidge was one again to meet with Vipe and Zentripoli. It seemed these ‘family reunions’ had grown more common- not that she was complaining. A good friend was as rare as Beskar in this galaxy, but these two seemed to show potential. Of course, she would’ve never met the men if she hadn’t been urgently called to a syndicate meeting because her livelihood was in danger. Circumstances were strange.

Listening closely to Zentripoli’s instructions, Pidge nodded at the hint at a possible promotion to an advisory board. She considered how she could get the weapons permit. The small alien was right, she would need the right terminal and enough time to slice without drawing too much attention to herself.

“You seem to know exactly what to do. Let’s hope your plan goes as smoothly as you make it sound. I can head out after dinner to a weapons office and try to locate a registration and permit terminal. I can probably get it done tonight but I may need a distraction. Do either of you care to accompany me?”

While the accommodations were plush, Zentripoli really only splurged on hotels when he was outside of Nar Shaddaa. The way the Columi viewed it, there would be plenty of time to live in opulence later once the real work was done. Until then, luxury accommodations would have to be meted out over time to keep within his budget constraints.

What Zentripoli discovered on his scouting expedition, or real estate hunt, was that land parcels were plentiful on the edges of Suslii proper. The problem was finding a plot that was both affordable and one that was not occupied by gangs or raiders--or both. The Columi had dealt with Pidge on a few occasions. She was one of the more competent members of the Mothkari family, which Zentripoli belonged to. To boot, she was a really proficient slicer...

Pidge mentioned a distraction. Once Zentripoli considered the idea, he nodded to Pidge and replied, “Weapon permits first, it is. Agreed, we need to get you to a terminal where you can work with some time on your hands. This means we will need to get access to the server room of the municipal building in downtown Suslii City.”

Looking over at Pidge, he mused, “Smoothly? No plan ever goes smoothly, but it must at least start out with a plan that appears smooth. It makes the bumps much easier to navigate. I believe Vipe and I will need to create an opportunity for you to enter the server room unmolested. My first thought is for us to go to the municipal building and try to accomplish two goals at once. Vipe and I will find out who it is we need to interface with that we can force to fast track our business license. Before we begin this search, we will make sure we get you in place for your terminal access…”

Zentripoli was, of course, correct. The plan would probably go disastrously wrong at some point. However, they needed to carry it out nonetheless. She shrugged on her vest, stood up, checked she had at least 3 spikes, and motioned for them to head out. She tried to look confident as she strolled through the city. People were less likely to question them if they looked like they knew what they were doing.

Zentripoli considered Pidge for a moment, staring at the twi'lek. He countered calmly, "But then again, if all criminal plans went according to how they were designed, everyone would be a criminal, yes? However, with what we are trying to accomplish, we could legitimately go the entire day without a single glitch. So to answer your questions, our wreaking havoc might be an overstatement. Have security occupied for your entry and egress? Yes, that will be a more apt description."

A holovid of the municipal building came from his hand projector he had affixed to the Boost droid. The blueprints tracked around to the front so Pidge could see. Grasping the light holo display, he spun the 3D representation so Pidge could see the area where they would be building. He explained, "My thought is this. A temporary power outage that will allow entry to the unsecure blast door. I can have "Porter" droid close by to help lift that door. It will only be off for a few moments, but long enough for you to reach the terminal within. This is a service terminal used by software technicians to adjust lighting, climate control, etc. But it is also a gateway to licensing. Technically, droids such as "Porter" would not be allowed inside the municipal building, but I require droid assistance, so I am given a pass. While inside, I should be able to get the land deed and the business license...should nothing go horribly amiss..."

The hologram zoomed out and the Columi highlighted a path from the service terminal to outside. He explained, "When you are done, I will let you know and you can proceed out. We will have to time it due to the cameras in the hallway. You can take care of them temporarily, perhaps looping them while you leave...other thoughts?"

”Your plan seems reasonable to me. It’s not as if I’m scared of the dark.” Pidge couldn’t help but feel her heart jump in excitement. She was doing big-league slicing now. She’d been waiting for years. Also, the opportunity to mess with security camera footage was always a golden one. She had once replaced ten minutes of footage with a video of a guard picking his nose.

“Once I’m into the system, I can create more distraction by playing with the temperature and lighting. Maybe some nice mood lighting...” She chuckled, even though she was only partially joking.

Exiting the suite, Pidge hailed a nice taxi to pick them up. Just to be cautious, she used a fake name, one of a patient at the medbay she used to work at, Bast Emblai. The sooner they could this done, the better. The hunt for the fuse box to throw the power was about to begin.

Simply referred to as “Porter”, due to it being the first one Zentripoli built, the labor droid carried Zentripoli in his chair out to the open-air speeder cabbie. After a few minutes, the Columi arrived at the towering municipal building of Suslii City. It wasn’t the Suslii capitol building, which was further north, but instead this was the seat of local governance. After paying and tipping the cabbie, Porter carried the Columi up the steps to the large blast doors that gave entry to the structure. Having studied the blueprints of the building, the Columi had already memorized every holovid security station in the building. There was a power relay on the east wing of the building that Zentripoli could double back to in order to not be linked to the outage. No other cameras would see the steps he would need to take. He simply took his time and waited for Pidge to make her way over.

As soon as he saw Pidge around the corner, he mentally commanded the labor droid to pry open the power relay. The droid effortlessly forced open the locked mechanism. Zentripoli then commanded the droid to stick its insulated finger next to fuse 14456H. With but a touch, the relay sparked once and powered down the entire building. Emergency lighting activated as shouts of confusion were heard much further down the hall. The Columi had memorized the specifications for this particular panel. He knew there was a particular vulnerability to the system—a common issue with random blackouts. While they were rare, they had been known to occur. Zentripoli simply knew how to agitate that vulnerability. What he also knew was that the power would be on in approximately 30 seconds…

Without even a word to his Mothkari family member, Zentripoli commanded the labor droid to lift the blast door for the twi’lek. Smoothly, the “Porter” droid put the Columi’s chair down and walked over to the door. The hydraulics in the droid protested, but in the end the droid was far stronger than the dead weight of the blast door. Opening it half a meter off the ground, it gave Pidge enough room to slide under. She slid underneath without hesitation. As soon as she cleared the door, Porter slowly put the blast door back down. He then walked back over to the power relay and closed the door, bending back the metal that was slightly bent from entry.

Lights flickered and systems in the municipal building began to cycle back up. Without missing a beat, Porter scooped up the chair with Zentripoli in it and they proceeded down the corridor to business licensing…

Pidge had just wriggled under the door and stood up as the lights came back on. The Columi certainly did have impeccable timing. The access panel was easy to spot. It was mounted on the back wall and the teal Twi’lek got to work immediately. She slipped on her gloves, flipped open the cover of the panel, and hooked up her password generator. It took about ten seconds for the generator to arrange to correct numbers in the correct order, so she had to continue working quickly. That was supposed to be the easy part.

The screen lit up with a variety of digital dials, switches, and toggles. Rather unfortunately, none seemed to be labeled clearly. After some amount of fiddling around, not to mention accidentally turning off the lights on the ground floor (Hopefully it could be chocked up to another outage), Pidge finally found a menu selection, deeply buried in complicated but mundane code. Selecting ‘Override’, ‘Main Admin System’ then ‘Licensing Department’, she carefully broke through the digital security wall and fudged a few numbers. Because the anomaly in the wall couldn’t be completely hidden, she simply made it appear the break in happened at 24:60 am. She hoped Zentripoli was having just as much success.

While there was a small of panic on the end of some citizens and employees within the municipal center, it was short-lived. In truth, most of the employees didn’t seem all that surprised by the power outage, seeming to be aware that it would be coming back on shortly. Regardless, Zentripoli was pleased for a fringe side effect of the outage—the lines were now shorter for the business license. A mousey-looking human female who was a bit older complete with silvery hair and leathery skin looked at Zentripoli as Porter carried him up to the service counter. Her voice was rote and full of boredom…

“Welcome to Suslii City Business Licensing Division—business name please?”

Glancing down at her nametag written in Basic, Zentripoli began, “Zentripoli Droid Technologies, Mable. I am respectfully requesting a business operation license, falling under Section 745463DX-Alpha. My hope is that my organization credentials can be expedited due to the ‘need status’ of droid part 653654524-3.”

A bit of energy and newfound interest seemed to infuse the older woman. She narrowed her eyes with a grin, musing, “Well, well, well, it is not often we get someone who can appreciate the intricacies of our business laws here on Suslii City. Part 653654524-3 just came on need status two days ago. Our policy is not to make that public until 5 days have passed…hmmm.”

Zentripoli smiled slightly at the woman, steepling his fingers and replied, “Quite so, Mable. However, there are those in Suslii city that would love to see my organization provide that part due to quality and the price in credits. In addition, it would now be local—no need to import part 653654524-3. Technically, there is no law that forbids early application of Section 745463DX-Alpha. I want to help Suslii City, of course.”

Narrowing her eyes, she grinned, seeming to appreciate the Columi’s understanding of their laws. Zentripoli got the distinct impression she constantly had to explain Suslii City’s business regulations to most every customer. She replied finally, “Well, Mr. Zentripoli, you seem to have everything in order. I can expedite this license at the fee of 4,000 credits.”

Zentripoli looked at the woman as she told him the price. He new the price for an expedited business license in Suslii cCity was 3,000 credits. But the Columi also knew that if this woman wanted to find a technicality to halt the process, she probably could. Bureaucracy at its finest in Hutt Space…

With a grin, he slid over the credit stick.

"You are all set, Mr. Zentripoli. I wish you and your company much success here on Hollastin."

He said, “Thank you for your assistance, Mable. Which way to ‘Deeds and Titles’?”

Zentripoli hoped Pidge was having some success…it would be a bit longer before he could release her from the terminal, unless she did it on her own. He kept his comlink ready in case plans changed…this operation was planned, but possessed many variables to adapt.

The screen blinked red, then blue, then green. It continued to repeat the cycle as Pidge let her spike offload information. The computer was quickly going to be overloaded with information about the herd characteristics of banthas. The information, as expected, did not compute well with the formatting and storage of the database. It was struggling to categorize and file “Isolated Bull Bantha Migration Patterns” when she finally got access to the base code. She turned off the need for approval and certification for permitting, then saved the file and entered the form for receiving a permit.

She needed to buy herself more time while she was filling it out, so she decided to create some controlled chaos. She turned down the heat in the building to a freezing 30 degrees and turned on the sprinklers on the second level. Surely that would draw the staff away from their computers for a few minutes. Hopefully, Zentripoli was not on the second floor. Pidge doubted he liked unexpected showers and she wanted the position in his company.

She looked back to the computer, slotting in the necessary information.

Permit Possessor: Zentripoli
Corporate Association: Zeno Droid Technologies
Planet of Issue: Hollastin
Weapon Class: Restricted War Product
Date of Exp.: 4 Years from date issued
Security Number: 8469032
Request Classification:46B

Just as the request finished processing, a message flashed across the screen: Anomaly Detected. Suspected Break In. Shutting Database Down. Pidge wanted to bang her head against the duracrete wall. Everything had been going so well. Why did her luck have to run out now? She quickly dialed into Zentripoli’s frequency. “I got the permit but I may have also caused a system lockdown. We need to book it rather soon.“

Porter trudged down the corridor, which merged into a busy thoroughfare. Zentripoli guided the hulking labor droid down the next corridor labeled “Deeds and Titles”. Windows with different beings manning them lined the wall, serving the winding line of beings seeking to take care of their own ‘deeds and titles’. But Zentripoli was looking for a specific employee to help him this day. This particular twi’lek male named Quer’ri had buttons that could be pushed and nerves that could be squeezed. It was fairly simple to Zentripoli—he crossed the Five Syndicates, so now he needed to make it right.

The Columi calculated the time it took for each agent to service a customer and waited in the line to time it when Quer’ri was ready to help the next customer. The pink-skinned twi’lek gave Zentripoli a confused and somewhat disapproving look, seeing that the Columi needed droid help to function. In an over the top disinterested voice, the twi’lek mused, “Interesting way to get around. How can I help you, Mr…?”

“Zentripoli. My name is Zentripoli. I have recently moved here from Nar Shaddaa. It seems there is some property on the north section of town, Land Parcel 6456 that is available for purchase. I wish to purchase that plot. Can I accomplish this here?”

The arrogance was not lost to the Columi, “Seeing how we are the entity that took possession of that land, I would say yes, you might can accomplish that here.”

Cocking his large head a bit sideways, the Columi’s tone changed, “Quer’ri Vogg. You owe the Five Syndicates a sum of over 15,000 credits…plus interest. In my estimation, this debt could be cleared by merely letting this transaction pass through.”

His eyes narrowed and his voice grew grave in its tone. His long fingernail protruded towards Zentripoli as he pointed, “Now you listen here, you little, big-headed looking—”

The Porter droid was being mentally controlled by Zentripoli. With lightning fast speed, the labor droid reached under the counter and grabbed the hand of the twi’lek..and its powerful actuators began to squeeze. Wincing in pain, Quer’ri whimpered, “Stop. Stop. Alright. Alright!”

Shaking his hand, trying to drive away the pain, Quer’ri added, “Ok, look…I will make this transaction happen, but the debt is done after that—deal?”

Zentripoli nodded and confirmed, “As long as no ‘mishaps’ occur during the transition process of the property, we are good, Quer’ri…”

Nodding, the twi’lek passed over the datapad for Zentripoli to sign. The Columi signed the electronic pad.

Smirking, the twi’lek added, “Congratulations on your new property—oh, by the way…I forgot to tell you a bit about its current status.”

The twi’lek seemed to be getting a great deal of pleasure out of his next words, “It seems that property has been overrun by a most malicious gang. I am afraid it is not in the contract for Suslii City to clear them out—that will be up to you…happy hunting!”

Zentripoli frowned.

His comlink buzzed and he listend to Pidge’s message. The alarm would be activated sooner rather than later. Zentripoli commanded the Porter droid to make haste down the corridor, back to the service door with the lack of cameras. He just hoped he could get that door open before the alarms went nuts…

"On my way..."

Pidge had just disabled the hall’s security cameras for the next ten standard minutes. Anyone looking back at the footage would just see a mouse droid going back and forth, back and forth. She had simply taken the footage from the last five minutes and looped it twice. Now it was a waiting game. Pidge could try to find the control panel for the door, but considering this was a control room, there was simply too many operator boards. The response from Zentripoli had sounded a touch strained- perhaps because she had just set off a fair many alarms But that was to be expected- wasn’t it? Even the most notorious of scoundrels ran out of luck. She hoped she had enough skill to scrape the rest of the way. She began looking around for any indications of a door seal. Finally, she was, after about three minutes of repeatedly and unintentionally locking and unlocking the door, it slid open.

Pidge spoke into her com again, pulling her mask on and hood up so as to become harder to identify. “Sorry about the mess, Zentripoli! I managed to get out. I’m now waiting in the corridor. I do hope I didn’t interrupt any important negotiations. Oh, and the entire buildings about to get some fun disco lighting. That’ll help disorientate everyone.”

The door to the control room was still open, so she slipped back in and set up a light cycle going from red to blue to off to white and back again. Although the business end systems were locked down, the maintenance ones were still fully functional. Pidge cringed as she considered what her partner’s reaction would be. He didn’t seem the type to like disco or hiccups in plans. She loved the thrill. Of course, she wanted everything to go smoothly, but she wasn’t uptight about form.

Seconds later, amidst the flickering “lightshow”, Zentripoli came up next to Pidge with Porter carrying him the whole time. He simply looked at her and mused, “While perfection in operations such as this would be ideal, they are seldom such. Truth is, if they went off without a hitch and were discovered later, the degree of professionalism would rouse the attention of those even higher up. When they analyze this intrusion, they may or may not expend the effort to follow up. Two facets will determine this: was trade interrupted and were credits taken from the Shell Hutts? If the answer is ‘no’ to both of these questions, then I am confident they will not expend the time and effort to investigate. Are we ready?”

Without prompting, the massive Porter droid, grabbed the blast door. Its powerful hydraulics slowly slid the door back into place. As they were walking back towards the exit, Zentripoli mused the fact that Pidge’s description of the disorientation effect was fairly accurate. The pair walked back into the holovid camera areas and proceeded towards the door. The Columi inquired, “The deed and the license are in order. However, I was left with an unforeseen dilemma with having to clear out the property of the current residents. This item was conveniently revealed to me following the signing of the property over. Nevertheless, we will deal with such things as they come. Are we all set on your end?”

Security had increased since the shenanigans began. More of Suslii City’s mercenaries began to show up, fanning throughout the building. Dressed in brown armor or different sorts, the Shell Hutts hired mercenary groups and other Private Military Corporations (PMC) to handle security and law enforcement in Suslii City. It seemed they were questioning each individual as they left. Looking over at Pidge, Zentripoli whispered, “Shall we weave our stories together or egress separately?”

“I suggest we exit together. We can back each other up. I could be your administrative assistant...” Pidge hoped he would roll with the plan because they were swiftly approaching the blockade. Pulling off her hood and mask, she put on a shaken expression and tried to look panicked. It was not too hard, really, considering she was walking straight towards a towering man in brown armor. There were dozens evacuating the area. Who was to say they weren’t innocent bystanders. Pidge swallowed hard as the guard watched her scrutinizingly. His low voice growled out a menacing question.

“Who are you and what was your business here today? Do you have any identification?” Of course, the questions were standard and Pidge tried to calm her racing thoughts as she answered. Luckily, it was normal for the average citizen to be nervous in these situations so she wouldn’t stand out. Hopefully. Zentripoli was exuding his calm, authoritative demeanor, as always. The man never seemed to get flustered. As soon as guard realized he and Pidge were together, he stood up a bit straighter.

“I am Pidgelle Batana. I work for Mr. Zentripoli as his assistant. He runs Zeno Droid Tech. He is disabled so I help him around as well as with administration. We came here to acquire a business license.“ She hoped the mention of the company or the disability would get them though with minimal questioning.

“ID, please.” Apparently he wouldn’t let her off the hook that easily. She slipped out her planet identification card which featured a picture of a wide eyed, smaller Pidge, untainted by the criminal world. Ignorance was bliss, but adventure was thrilling. “It says here you work at a medbay. You told me you are an assistant.”

This statement was easy to address- it barely involved lying. The more truth in a lie, the better. “I used to work at a medbay as triage and an emergency medic. I’ve shifted career paths, though. I know only deal with one person’s medical needs, as well as an entire company’s worth of paperwork.“The man returned the card and nodded. Pidge felt her shoulders relax and flashed a relieved smile at the Columi. They were out.

As they approached the checkpoint, Pidge was right--going out together seemed to provide the most solid solution for them. Zentripoli let Pidge do the talking and he listened, nodding as appropriate. Her angle was a good one, weaving a bit of misdirection in with mostly truth. When asked for identification, everything did indeed check out—Zentripoli did come there for deed work and for a business license. Her comments about aiding the Columi due to his inability to move were not far off the mark either. There was the occasional door opened or item grabbed for Zentripoli. For those who worked for the Columi, some simply helped the diminutive alien without even thinking about it. After running their IDs, the guard gave them another glance before waving them through to Suslii City proper.

The trio walked down the front steps leading to the busy main thoroughfare. They waited for many moments before a silvery airspeeder came around the corner, pulling up and parking in front of the trio. One of Zentripoli’s ZDT-410 Vanisher security droids pulled up in his CC3 Avian Airspeeder. The doors opened allowing the Porter droid, Pidge and Zentripoli to occupy a seat each, with the Porter droid in the front passenger seat. The Columi looked over at Pidge, “Well done back there, Ms. Batana. You certainly made our family proud today. I thank you for aiding me in this endeavor. It came with a certain amount of risk…but I suppose that is the life we live.”

As they made their way to the spaceport, Zentripoli informed his Mothkari family member, “I have sent a communique to Cestus, requesting his aide in clearing out the facility. I will take you to your ship and wait for him at the spaceport. It seems that clerk did indeed get the last laugh...”
