...by giving the Hutt Assassins an S13 target to go after.

More specifically, I want to take a moment to establish a central agency/office for S13, then have an NPC leak the location of that office to the Hutt Empire so that they can launch a strike at it. This is to get S13 back into the game and galvanize the more shadowy Republic characters into taking action against the Hutts.

It'll also give the Hutt Assassins a target to go after, and should be good fun for all sides.

So, thoughts and suggestions, anyone? For matters of logistical/communications convenience, I was tinkering with the idea of having S13's central office be located on Coruscant, but the Hutt Assassins might have a dickens of a time getting through security, striking at the office, and then getting out. Any ideas on this would be most welcome.

For the record, Hakim is now the head of Sector 13. :D

Logically, the S13 outpost would be close to the galactic border, to minimize the communication distance (clearer lines and smaller chance of tapping imo) and transportation of equipment (if necessary).

I'm not in the mood to check up on a suitable planet (tired and finishing up a project) so that would be the general area I'd suggest.

I was thinking that for their Central Office, they'd maintain a facility on Coruscant so that they'd always have operatives on-hand to help if anything went to pot on Coruscant and to help prevent any spies from working their way in. However, you make a valid point, Lavi; it'd make sense for S13 to operate small field offices on outlying Republic space to keep an ear to the ground for Hutt activity.

I've got a couple of starmaps; I'll pull it out and take a look at some worlds that are likely canidates for field offices, though I'm still quite open to putting the central office elsewhere.

Personally, I don't think they'd put a central office on Coruscant. I'd imagine they'd want to distance themselves from the Supreme Chancellor as much as possible, just so things aren't all concentrated like that.

Perhaps Anaxes, then? There's a lot of suitable worlds near the Core regions that'd work for this. Like Corulag, Metellos, and Aldreaan, to name a few aside from Anaxes.

I would actually think of it as being more in the Mid Rim somewhere. Maybe that's just me.

Why wouldn't S13 have its base on Coruscant? It answers to the Supreme Chancellor, and the planet is ****ing huge. Not to mention, Coruscant would probably be the planet where S13 is the most active in.

Because a covert organization that's basically illegal and shouldn't exist would want to distance itself from the center of activity so it had more privacy. On Coruscant, you'd have millions of individuals in government and media hounds everywhere searching for dirt, all of whom could get in the way of S13 operations. I can tell you that Alcor Bac, as the IC creator of Sector 13, would've said the exact same thing and would not have put them on Coruscant.

There are plenty of dark corners on Coruscant where people can hide. This isn't an issue at all. It's ridiculous to suggest that S13 wouldn't operate on Coruscant.

And no S13 doesn't have a HQ, it only has offices. I wrote it that way.

It would still have a central office. There has to be a centralized location for an organization to function properly.

And I still disagree about Coruscant.

It isn't decentralized. The Director is still the boss. He sends order to the offices, but the Director doesn't operate in a HQ, because nobody knows he's the director.

What if it's central location was mobile? A small, advanced stealth based capital ship. Not Cruiser sized, but perhaps a fast, advanced frigate or destroyer?

I think it's meant to not have a central location. That being said, it's discovery is neigh impossible. Perhaps the Hutts try to assassinate the Chancellor? This happening would spark something.

That's a good idea. I like that.

For now let's concerns ourselves with the battle. Once that's underway we can start thinking about future events.

I agree with Bac; I like that idea, and it makes a fair bit of sense from a IC standpoint. Resupplying without letting the ship come to light could be a bit of a problem, unless S13 had a few outposts tucked away in the mid rim and core where the ship could refuel, resupply, and undergo maintenance.

Giving it changing ID signatures, so every time it docked it was a different ship might work. I'm sure there's plenty of outposts and refit stations used to dealing with (mainly illegal) ships that mysteriously disappear every so often and don't want to be found. The fact that this one is sanctioned by the Chancellor just wouldn't be known.
