Carrick wasn't hurt but he wasn't as fresh as he had been because bursting out of the floor was kind of a taxing move with the Force. But he wasn't hurt because his Mando friend had been a dab hand at a blaster. He grinned a little bit and patted his chest with one hand, eyeing the Mando for a moment before winking.

"I'm fine but you're welcome to check me for wounds later."
he encouraged her with another rougish grin, "Pays to be thorough."

Still flirting.

Both of them in fact as she decided to keep going and he was never one to step back from such a blatent challenge. He smirked ever so slightly and eyed her from the corner of his eye as he made sure he still had all his equipment. Still had everything, which meant they were ready to get moving.

Provided the good senator had not, in fact, soiled himself.

"I love a driven woman."

Leading the way this time, he drew his vibrosword rather than his lightsaber despite the hilt prominently displayed on his waist. Instead he went with the sword and the pistol combination as he headed through the halls with confidence. He didn't skulk from one corner to the next so much as he strode down the halls with his back straight and his footing confident.

As if he owned the place.

"I can feel them through the Force but they are... slippery."
he explained to his companions, "More often than not I can only tell where they are because they have mental defenses and they tend to be pretty rare. There are... five in the hanger right now."

Arriving at the doors to the hanger, he paused for a moment before turning back to his allies.

"Anyone have a plan? We could always try 'get help'."

Reiel was nothing short of relieved when Carrick assured her that he was not hurt. The Mandalorian was about to open her mouth for an answering retort but the exasperated look on the Senator's face – most probably from all the flirting going on between her and the ex-Jedi – prompted a laugh from her instead.

"How about we get Senator Fah out of here first, make sure he's safe? Sounds fair, Mister Senator?" Amusement thick in her voice, she added, gesturing at Carrick with her blaster rifle, "Then I'll check you out– ahem, check on you later once we're safe."

Stars, the covert would disown her should they discover that she had been knowingly and willingly flirting with a sorcerer.

Reiel turned to look at Anno Fah and gestured for him to stay behind her, following Carrick as he took the lead this time. The Mandalorian mirrored the ex-Jedi's stance, blaster rifle at the ready. It was worrisome to hear that the assassins were capable of concealing themselves from Force-users... which pretty much summed up Izel's warning about the saboteur earlier.

"Hey, at least you can still feel them through your sorcery," Reiel assured him. At least they were not walking blind into any further trouble.

She strapped her blaster rifle back to her bandolier and settled for the trusty DE-10 Blaster Pistol she had taken from an encounter with a Ranger and a spice dealer back in Corellia. With five assassins posted in the hangar, she needed a weapon that would give her an opportunity to be a faster shot than they could ever be – something the blaster rifle she was equipped with would not provide her.

Reiel considered Carrick's words. None of the Chandrila Militiamen had contacted her nor the ex-Jedi so far, and given the disturbing lack of communication the Mandalorian had to assume that they were incapacitated, held hostage, or worse, killed. She would also have to assume the worst for those who were working in the hangar bay.

She had to chalk it up to her and Carrick being the only defenders the Senator had right now.

The ship suddenly shuddered again, but it felt as if a chunk of space rock made contact instead of the spacecraft getting shot at. What was happening out there?

Damn. Here's hoping it's Izel dealing with the enemy ship out there. Hope she's okay as well.

Reiel marched up to Carrick and stood beside him, squaring her shoulders and gripping her blaster tight on one hand and a vibroknife on the other. She could already hear a chrono blaring at her as if to tell her that their time was running out. They needed to get the Senator out of this hi-jacked ship as soon as possible.

"I'll get in first, draw their fire away from you – stars willing. Distract them with my armored beauty, steer them off of the way. You can either shoot them while they're dealing with me or make haste for the Senator's escape craft. I'll catch up with you and the Senator, gorgeous, don't fret. Or..." here, Reiel resumed in a joking manner, "you can lift me up, throw me over at the assassins, and hope for the best. Puts a chip on my dignity, but, hey. 'Least it could provide hilarious distraction."

Her second option sounded dumb, but eh. Not her first time getting literally bodily lifted then thrown at the enemy. Maker, her buir could be so kriffing hilarious at times.

As their own hijacked shuttle continued circling the Senator's vessel Izel sat back in her seat and reached out with the Force. She was able to pinpoint where Carrick and Reiel were, almost at the hangar. That was good, this madness was almost over. She just wished them the best, she hated being in a position where she couldn't really help.

That's when the diplomatic ship's engines suddenly roared to life again and it took off, rocketing away from the shuttle. Izel cursed and sat up in her chair, taking hold of the turret controls. The technicians didn't need to be told what to do, they immediately fell in pursuit of the Senator's ship. "It seems they've made the necessary repairs themselves..." Izel commented in annoyance. "If they manage to jump to hyperspace they're gone. Get me close enough to take out their engines."

"But... ma'am..." The Chief started worriedly. "The Senator's still onboard!"

"Then pray I don't miss." Izel replied bluntly. "Get me closer Chief." There was no reply on the other side, but after a brief hesitation the technicians hit the accelerator and started closing the gap between the two vessels. Those onboard the Senator's ship would be treated to a rough ride as the vessel suddenly started twisting and turning as it went into evasive maneuvers. It was a pleasure ship though, and didn't really stand a chance against a military vessel. Izel's shuttle steadily gained on it until finally she got a lock. The Vratix carefully took aim and then unleashed a short volley. The first did little more than be absorbed by the deflector shields. Though it wasted valuable time she continued these short volleys, whittling down the shields without threatening to cause major damage to the ship. Finally she broke through, blasting the starboard engine and seeing it go up in flames. That certainly stopped the ship from escaping but now it was spiraling wildly through space. Izel watched the damaged vessel with mounting concern as she slowly brought her comlink back to her mouth.

"Uh... Are you guys alright over there?" She asked after Carrick and Reiel nervously, hoping she hadn't inadvertently hurt her allies.

She made a good point - best they manage to fix their current situation before they spent any longer dwelling on more pleasurable activities that they could indulge in at a later date. Sure, it was fun but not eating a blaster bolt to the chest was fun as well in his books. And she had a point - he could still feel them through the Force but it was only really because they were actively working against him.

Kind of ironic really.

He managed to keep his balance by using the Force as the ship shuddered but it wasn't anything that he didn't expect... the continued movement afterwards however he did not like. Carrick frowned for a second before he realized what it was.

"They fixed the engines."
he declared before swearing violently in Huttese about how he would have sex with the mothers of the mercenaries while they watched without arms.

Huttese was a truly vile language.

"My dear, you are armed, armoured and attractive. Defend the senator and get him to a shuttle and prep for takeoff - I am going to do what my Jedi training taught me."

He smiled at her and gave her a wink.

"I'm going to make sure everyone is looking at me."

Distraction duty was something he'd done often as a Jedi and it would serve here too. Pulling the Force to himself, he holstered his pistol and strode out confidently into the hanger with just the sword in his hand. The five hijackers noticed him almost immediately and he commanded their attention,

"Which of you is man enough to fight a politician?"

One of the closet mercenaries made a run at him with a stun baton. It was a rather lazy thrust honestly - likely the man expected him to be a lazy politician. Ducking under the thrust, he grabbed the man's wrist with his free hand and stood up, lifting his arm with him. With a quick thrust, he buried his sword into the man's chest by entering through the armpit, an area left unarmoured for the sake of movement.

The others were likely to not be so easy.

It was hard to keep one's self from screaming curses that would make the clan's alor blush, but it was nothing short of a miracle that Reiel managed to keep her mouth shut as the ship shuddered and careened wildly to gods knew where. She slammed against the wall at the initial movement, helmet bouncing off of durasteel with a loud clang. Hells, what the feck was happening out there?

The young Mandalorian grabbed the disoriented Senator and trapped him behind her against the wall to keep the poor man from tumbling a lot, at least until the ship finally stopped moving. For one wild moment, she hated how Carrick managed to remain upright even after all that kriffing crazy jostling they just went through. The feeling was immediately replaced with wonder – this Force thing and it's uses really were nifty, huh?

"How nice of them, fixing stuff they sabotaged," Reiel all but growled sarcastically in reply, pulling Senator Fah away from the wall and having him stand behind her.

The switch on who would serve as a distraction was made, and all Reiel could do was to believe in the ex-Jedi's capabilities and strength. She nodded at him, and said cheekily,
"Don't take too long, darling. I might miss you."

She watched Carrick strode out of the hangar bay, pulling the Senator to the side and waited until the mercs' attention were focused solely on the ex-Jedi. The Mandalorian then scouted for the escape craft, grinning when she found it easily.

"Get ready to run, Senator. And please stick close to me."

Taking one of the assassin's attack as a cue, Reiel and Anno Fah made a run for it. She encouraged the poor Senator to keep going, unable to stop herself from praising the latter when he activated the escape craft's ramp before they reached it. The Mandalorian watched him board, and, assessing Carrick's situation, said,

"Senator Fah, forgive me for asking this, but can you do the start-up sequence yourself? I can't leave Carrick to those mercs."

"Consider it done, Mandalorian."

Huh. Looked like the politician had it in him to be useful in the situation they found themselves in.

After making sure that the Senator was the only person in the escape craft (checking the interior had been quick but thorough), Reiel switched weapons, tucking both blaster rifle and vibroknife back to their respective places and retrieved her beloved DC-15A Blaster Rifle as she made her way back out of the ship. From her place on the escape ship's ramp, the Mandalorian had a clear vantage point to snipe the assassins before they could fully gang up on Carrick.

Blaster rifle primed to shoot, Reiel pulled the trigger and fired at one of the mercenaries. The man dropped, dead and well out of the playing field. Before she could line up another shot, her commlink beeped to life and Izel's nervous voice sprang from the device.

"Doing good so far," she replied, hoping her voice carried a reassuring tone. "We managed to get the Senator to his escape craft. Carrick and I are just... doing a cleanup here in the hangar bay. How about you? Are you alright? The Chandrila Militiamen with you?"

Reiel resumed with the task at hand, lining up another shot and ready to fire at another mercenary.

Here's hoping the three of them could make it out of here before any enemy reinforcement showed up.

Izel sighed with relief as Reiel updated her on the situation aboard the diplomatic vessel. Things had been quiet for a little too long there. It sounded like there was fighting going on but with the combined efforts of an ex-Jedi and a Mandalorian warrior working in tandem she had little worry for their safety. Honestly she wished she had more good news on her own side of things.

"I'm fine," She replied to Reiel's query. "I have the repair crew with me but that's it. There might not be any other survivors. We captured a few assassins but they were carrying poison capsules. We won't be getting any information out of them I'm afraid..." It was then Izel took notice that the disabled diplomatic ship was careening towards an asteroid field. She sighed again, still more work to do. "Just get the Senator to safety and brace yourself for another rocky ride. Perhaps use it to your advantage if you can."

On the Vratix's order the technicians rocketed ahead of the Senator's ship into the asteroid field. Izel started blasting immediately, trying to destroy any of the space rocks large enough to do serious harm. Even so, with such high numbers some of them inevitably got past her. Once again the diplomatic vessel was peppered with debris, getting shook up and knocked from one rock into the other. More damage was being done. If they didn't get out soon they might fall prey to a hull breach.

Carrick had his sword stuck inside a corpse and three men facing him down with blasters - he almost felt sorry that they didn't know he had a secret weapon. Namely, the Mando woman shooting at them from the sidelines when they weren't expecting anything from over there. It amused him that they had seemingly forgotten the briefing about the Mando just because there were Jedi and the like aboard - did they not know an angry Mando was often worse?

Still, blaster bolts came his way and Carrick wasn't in a position to dodge them with a corpse on his sword. So instead of dodging them, he twisted and pulled, using the corpse on the end of his sword as a literal meatshield both for the protection and for the shock value. Even the most professional mercenaries in the Galaxy would take issue with shooting their own friend to pieces.

Oh well - not his problem.

"Anyone ever tell you that you're a guardian angel?"
he teased his Mando ally, "Because you've got the aura."

Using the Force he gripped one of the survivor's by the arm, tugging it to the side to leave him wide open. Kicking the corpse from his sword, he threw the sword into the chest of the restrained man before watching as another fell to the Mando. The last man went for his rifle, only to find it pulled out of his grip into Carrick's hands.

The mercenary raised his hands to surrender and Carrick paused for a moment before shrugging. He flicked the rifle to stun and fired twice into the man's head, knocking him out cold instantly. Dropping the rifle, he dragged the stunned man onto the shuttle by his foot, uncaring for the way the man bumped against things on the way.

"Let's leave, shall we?"

A quiet curse left Reiel's lips at the news Izel had presented to her. The Mandalorian was glad that she and the repair crew were safe, she really was, but–

Dead, then, she concluded on the fate of the Chandrila Militiamen, and quite possibly the rest of the crew. She knew her duty to protect was only bound towards the Senator, but damn did she feel bad about those who were killed. Reiel had so many things planned out for this journey, and bonding with the men-at-arms was a part of her list. So many questions about their lives now left unanswered.

Death had become a part of her life the moment she swore the Creed, but that did not mean to say that it never upset her. More so when those who were killed were on her side. And in the current situation she found herself in, she could only offer herself the tiny consolation that the militiamen died fighting down to the last man.

But even then, she could not hold on to hope with that one. Reiel knew she could not protect the Senator and help the militiamen at the same time, but she was still mad at herself for being unable to come to their aid.

Before her thoughts could spiral further on the collective fate of those still in the diplomatic ship – trapped in rooms, getting slaughtered? – Carrick's teasing snapped Reiel back to reality. The young Mandalorian had not realized that while her mind was busy filling itself with thoughts of the dead, her body had switched on auto-pilot, sniping down the ex-Jedi's opponents.

A guardian angel, huh? She didn't feel like one. But she would not let him know that she was... distressed. Not if she could help it.

(She failed.)

"Here's hoping I got the looks under the helmet, too," Reiel shot back, but the intended cheek fell quite short. Should Carrick reach out through the Force – to sense feelings? She really didn't and would not pretend to know – he would catch on the Mandalorian's unsettlement as well as anger directed solely on herself.

Another merc fell to her blaster rifle, and she let out a breath she did not know she was holding as Carrick knocked out the last one. Reiel glanced at her hands, realized they were shaking, and clenched them into fists after slinging her weapon back to its usual perch on her back. The Mandalorian made way as he dragged the merc to the escape craft, gaze drifting towards the door to the hangar bay and nodded to herself when no enemy presence made themselves known.

The diplomatic vessel shuddered again, and Reiel took it as a cue to enter the shuttle and slam a fist on the control panel to lift the ramp and close the ship. She turned to Carrick, smiling a little wearily up at him despite the helmet concealing her face.

"You did well out there, mesh'la. Impressive," the Mandalorian told him, then turned her helmeted gaze at the unconscious assassin. "Izel made contact, said she and the repair crew are safe. They captured some assassins but the mercs killed themselves before they could wrangle up info about the assassination plot. Let's assume this one," she pointed at the merc, "is prepared to die before he could be interrogated, hm? There's got to be some way to prevent that."

Reiel turned towards the cockpit, but not before gently patting a gloved hand twice on the ex-Jedi's chest. Just making sure that Carrick was really here, not just some cruel projection her mind concocted to torment her.

Realizing what she just did, Reiel's face exploded in a heated blush. She removed her hand from his chest and gestured wildly, awkwardly towards the cockpit.

"I, uh... Y-Yep. Let's get out of here."

The Mandalorian turned tail and hurriedly ascended the cockpit. The Senator's worried gaze met her and he quickly made way for her on the pilot's seat.

"You did well, Senator. Thank you," she told the man, face still red from what she did. Then, turning to her commlink, she sent Izel a short but reassuring message. "We got the Senator in his escape shuttle. Getting the hell out of here in three... two... one..."

Dropping the commlink to her lap, Reiel took to the controls and began to navigate the escape craft out and away from the hijacked diplomatic ship.

Izel watched as the Senator's escape craft exited the hangar bay, signaling an end to the crisis. Or at least that they had accomplished their mission. Senator Fah was safe, but it still felt wrong to call this a victory. A lot of good people were dead. Izel sighed again before calming herself and speaking into her comlink. "We see you Reiel. Go ahead and make the calculations for a jump to hyperspace, we'll be right behind you."

Unable to sense any more danger, nor read any on her scanners, the Vratix climbed down from the turret and joined the technicians in the cockpit. They looked exhausted and more than a little shaken up by the ordeal, but they were alive. While the Chief and one of the others sat at the controls, one of them, the more skittish if she could remember, sat alone in the corner. She put a reassuring hand on his shoulder and nodded to him before going to the others. From the viewport she could see the diplomatic vessel was still intact, though badly damaged at this point. It wasn't going anywhere.

"See if you can alert the local Sector Rangers to pick them up." She said to the Chief. "Warn them to be careful. And to come in force."

"Aye ma'am." The Chief responded, and went about sending the communication. Izel kept her eyes on the diplomatic ship, drifting aimlessly through the void. Who were these people? And what was their motivation for the attack? Given their training it seemed likely they were Sith agents. Few were specifically taught how to combat Jedi. There weren't many groups she could think of that they could belong to. She could only take some satisfaction in the knowledge that in the end this attack might actually help their cause. If their enemy was so brazen as to attack Free World politicians, surely it would galvanize a united defense against their aggression. Or at least she hoped it would. She was beginning to see just how eager the galaxy was to ignore threats to it's freedom. They might ignore this one too... until it was too late.

Hearing that the militiamen hadn't fared very well was saddening but, ultimately, very much expected. He hadn't really rated them as a military force in the past and he didn't think they'd corrected it in the mean time - and, oh look, turns out that they hadn't. Fancy that, the planet that had basically sat out of the last three Galactic wars wasn't very adept at warfare. He forgot to be surprised for a moment there.

What was slightly more surprising was the Mando who he had been working with. Well, less of a surprise and more of a revelation. He patted her on the shoulder (or rather the armour there) without much thought and gave it a squeeze. It was a gesture that probably meant more when the person could actually feel it but, hey, the thought counted for something.

"One day soon you're going to have to tell me what that means."
he teased her with a smirk, "My Mando is rusty - perhaps you'll help me practice? As for him?"

He kicked the merc lightly with the tip of his toe.

"I'm going to keep him sleeping until he's fully restrained - that way he shouldn't have any way to trigger the suicide switch or whatever they use."

Hopefully.

It would be the Rangers problem either way - he had managed to do his part. Carrick tilted his head to the side slightly and watched her when she lightly patted his chest. He didn't mind at all but it was strange that she'd done it... it seemed rather tender. He patched into the com line.

"Got a sleeping one as well - if you could pass on the warnings for the Rangers to make sure to keep him out, they might be able to get him to talk."
he cut off the transmission before sitting down beside his Mando friend and glancing at her out of the corner of his eye, "So... do you like Mon Cala food? My treat."

"Alright. See you on the other side, then."

Trusting Izel's words, Reiel began to input coordinates and make the necessary calculations for the jump to hyperspace. Her hands were still trembling, albeit more minutely now. A testament to how shaky she had been during the attempted assassination on the Senator on the way to Coruscant and their subsequent escape from the hijacked diplomatic vessel, maybe?

The Mandalorian tightened her grip on the controls as she engaged the jump to hyperspace.

No, she would not dwell any further on the lives that were lost here. Reiel knew that the Galaxy could be cruel just as it could be kind, but still...

She looked over at Carrick and watched him ascend the cockpit. Head tilted curiously to the side, she listened to his conversation with Izel and followed him with her gaze until he was seated beside her. Reiel blinked, bringing herself back into awareness as he made the offer to treat her to dinner. Or lunch. Whichever, as long as it involved an honest to goodness decent food. And, of course, where she could eat in privacy, what with her helmet and Creed and all that jazz...

Maybe she did deserve that, all of them – a nice break. Who knew how Izel dealt with any enemy she came across? From what she could glean from what little interaction they shared, Reiel believed that the Vratix Jedi was a nice sort. And Carrick – for all the flirting they exchanged while making the escape, the Mandalorian could at least trust him to have her back... if they were actively working together, that is. Reiel simply felt lucky that she was able to work with people who were reliable enough on this particular job.

As for the attackers... who sent them, really? She knew that the assassination plot towards Anno Fah would send a very specific message across the galaxy, given the crisis it faced quite recently. It looked like she and her father would have so much to discuss once they made contact, and she trusted that he had gathered more information during his travels than she had in this mission.

Reiel shifted her seat to face Carrick, the blue glow of hyperspace reflected in her helmet. Welp. Time to shove away the embarrassment and go back to flirting, it seemed.

"Sounds pretty good to me," she replied, crossing her legs and leaning back on her chair. "Get ourselves a private room. Maybe we can sit back to back while we eat, as long as you don't look over your shoulder to take a peek, huh? And maybe then," Reiel grinned, head tilted to the side, "I can teach you Mando'a while partaking in that drinking game as well. What say you, beautiful?"

Behind them, Senator Fah let out a long-suffering groan. Looked like it was going to be a really long ride for the poor chap.
