OOC: Open to any NR or ISC individuals interested in this debate/discussion

While Lon and Cato Neimoidia were still a part of the New Republic, his recent discontentment and changing perceptions meant that might not be the case for long. After an interesting discussion with Governor Lassiter - formerly Senator Lassiter - he had asked that she accompany him to a meeting open to members of the ISC and New Republic.

The goal of the meeting was multifold, but Lon was certain that Neimoidia, Cato Neimoidia, and likely others were all interested in freeing themselves from the coming and worsening storm of war that was on the horizon. Some would call it rats jumping ship, but Tendree was a pragmatic man, and being caught up in a war you never wanted to be part of was bad for business.

In particular, he hoped to win over some of the surrounding worlds, creating a small pocket of ISC worlds and perhaps eventually winning over Antar as well in order to create a direct path to ISC space. At least, this was his hope. But things moved slowly, and he didn't expect the transition within a day. For now, it was he and the governor and any other interested parties.

Sibyl was in a good mood, the smile on her lips made it obvious. The reason for it was the meeting that she was going to have with Senator Tendree and other representatives of New Republic worlds.

During their talk at Graves’ party, the Governor had noticed that the Senator was very interested in the possibility of joining the ISC. After all, the offer of neutrality and economic stability was everything that a Neimoidian would want. Their cowardice and self-servingness were legendary. This way, Sibyl wasn’t surprised when only some days after it, one of Lon’s aides contacted her office, inviting her for this meeting. It would be the perfect opportunity to convince her old colleagues of the Core to join the ISC.

If they really decide to defect, it would mean that Brentaal would not be alone anymore in the Core. This also would mean that the New Republic would be losing members. Emil was going to be furious and she loved it. It would be a delight for her to make the midget go mad. After all, she was very petty.

Knowing that she would need to cause a good impression, Sibyl had bought a new dress for the occasion. Being vain as she was, the Governor always thought that a good visual was important when seeking to impress someone.

When she arrived at the room, Sibyl approached the Neimoidian. “Senator Tendree, it’s a pleasure to meet you again. I feel honored to be invited.” she smiled at him, this time it wasn’t fake. At least not totally. “I hope that this meeting will bear many fruits.

He nodded respectfully to the governor as she arrived and couldn't help but feel the same. He also hoped this meeting would bear fruit rather than being a pointless endeavor. There were a few worlds in particular that he hoped to bring over, and he had high hopes that they would achieve the desired results.

As do I, Governor. It would be a shame if we all gathered only to reach no conclusion, but knowing how these things go, people don't like to move quickly, he said. Indeed, politics didn't usually move at hyperspace speeds.

If we can convince even a few of those coming here to leave for the ISC that would be a win for our people, no? After all, no one wants to be the only world in the core that is surrounded by potential enemies, he said. The others were still not quite arrived, but he was sure they would be coming along any minute. Primarily he was sure because one of his aides had already informed him their vehicles had arrived.

For that reason I suppose I must congratulate you on your bravery. Alone against an entire sea of blue can't have been easy for your people, he said, though thankfully there was no direct hostility between the Republic and the ISC. Hopefully that would remain true.

I agree. However, I understand that when we are dealing with political discussions, calmness is exential.” Sibyl could understand it, but she still hated how slow it could be. Sometimes it was like she spent an entire month at the Galactic Senate. She would not mind if who was talking was someone clever, but most of the time were idiots like Starros and the Wookiee, whose name she didn’t care to remember. At these moments she wanted to leave.

Of course. Even if the ISC is friendly with the New Republic, and I hope that they remain this way, having more allies on the Core is always good.” she knew very well that they were living at uncertain times. There were great chances that this friendship would not last for much time. Having more Consortium planets on the Core would not only mean that they would not be alone there, but it would also be enough to cripple the New Republic even before the war starts.

When the Senator congratulated her, Sibyl smiled. “I only did what was right. Me and the entirety of Brentaal couldn’t remain there waiting for Chancellor Ro to finally decide to fulfill the promises he made after his election. Our economy was being damaged, with several losing their jobs. Meanwhile Ro was indifferent to all of that.” the Neimoidian would probably identify with this, after all his planet also was involved in Trade “We did what was necessary for the stability of our homeworld.

Hopefully, during this meeting we will be able to show to others how the ISC can give them stability.” Sibyl wanted to laugh, she was sounding like some type of patriot. Well, if it was necessary to convince others to abandon the New Republic, she would happily act this way. “Tell me Senator, how is the economy and stability of Cato Neimoidia and other Neimoidian planets?

Senator Tendree nodded to her as she spoke, agreeing with most of what she said.

It is adequate, but it could always be better. Stagnation is the enemy of business, he said. So far as he was concerned, they were always interested in making their place better, and to stop short of that would be a loss.

He glanced over at the door as other senators started rolling in. He recognized the senator of Pure Neimoidia, Quellor, Humbarine, and Commenor, the members he was most keenly interested in converting today. He knew that those of Pure Neimoidia were already amenable, but that wouldn't necessarily prove true of the others. That was why he wasn't doing this alone.

Welcome Senators, please have a seat, he said, motioning toward the chairs. Others began to come in as well, but the Senator of Quellor was the first to speak up. He was a Mon Calamri by birth, but Quellor was largely made up of immigrated species.

Governor Lassiter. I see the ISC has sent its converted to try to bring us over. Here to tell us about how much better life is in the ISC than the New Republic? he asked. The words were said partially in jest, but held a hint of truth to them. It was clear the man was suspicious of her and her motivations, but wasn't outright hostile. That sly political questioning that she would have become quite familiar with over time.

Sibyl nodded, she couldn’t agree more with what Tendree had said. The stagnation was really terrible for business. Her father always applied this idea to how a company should work. He used to say that it couldn’t afford to remain unchanged. It only shows the laziness of its owners. A company that did it, would easily be overcome by its rivals.

Then, the Senators that were invited to his meeting started to arrive. She recognized some of them from her time as part of the New Republic. Sibyl had met the senators of Pure Neimoidia and Commenor, they always seemed to be the type that would understand the importance of change, rather than having a blind devotion for a government that was declining.

The same couldn’t be said about the Senator of Quellor. Although what he said sounded more as a joke, Sibyl knew that he understood why she was there. She wanted to grimace, there was no pleasure on her part in needing to deal with a Mon Calamari. The Governor always thought that they smelled like rotten fish.

"I'm here because Senator Tendree invited me. It's good to see old friends. " Sibyl smiled at the Mon Calamari and the other senators. "If any of you are interested in hearing my experiences with the ISC, I'll be happy to tell it to you." then she turned to the Neimoidian. "I think that we can start this meeting."

Lon nodded in agreement when she said they could get started. Indeed. Thank you all for coming this afternoon, he said, taking a seat of his own.

I'm sure many of you have questions about how life would change in the ISC and I'm sure some of you are simply here for the free food, he said, cracking something of a joke and motioning in the direction of the table that had been set up for individuals to get snacks, drinks, and finger foods.

I thought we might start by letting Governor Lassiter speak about her experience. I'm sure we're all acquainted with one another here so there's no need for lengthy introductions, he said. They were all up on what had been happening in the Core Worlds and they all knew that many were beginning to consider leaving the Republic.

Would you like to begin, Governor? he asked.

While Tendree talked, Sibyl watched the Senators reaction. As the Governor had said before, she would be happy to share all her experiences with the ISC. She already introduced some of it to the Senator of Cato-Neimoidia during Graves’ party. Knowing how the Neimoidians loved to gossip among themselves, she expected that Lon had already told it to the Senator of Pure Neimoidia.

Yes, Senator.” Sibyl smiled at the Neimoidian, then she turned to the others. “As all of you must know, before Brentaal joined the ISC, we were suffering with the same crisis that was affecting the rest of the New Republic. The decline of the credit was a problem that started during the tenure of Eder Owusaan and Emil Ro promised after his election that he was going to correct it. However, he did nothing. In reality, he did something. The Chancellor approved a sanction that only caused more damage to the Republic’s economy.

Many of you may think that these are the words of a traitor. However, I as you all, was I a traitor for wanting what was the best for my people? By joining the ISC, Brentaal’s economy is now recovering and the shadow of the economic crisis that threatened to throw my entire homeworld in chaos has passed.” if this speech really causes an impact on these Senators and makes them join the Consortium, she would give Tristodd the days off that he asked. After all, it was he who wrote it.

In the ISC we found a stable economy, with a currency that is now surpassing the credit. The Consortium is also in neutrality with the Sith Empire, different from the New Republic. The Chancellor started a war when he attacked Denon and he did it without discussing it with the Senate.” she knew that many of them were afraid of this war. Many of them suffered from conflicts in the past. For example, Humbarine was bombarded during the Clone Wars, destroying large areas of it’s ecumenopolis. “The Republic fleet failed to defend Denon and it’s now back under Sith control. This war will happen while the Republic planets are in the middle of an economic crisis.

The Consortium offered to Brentaal economic stability and peace. I believed that these two were things that many of you desire for your homeworlds, isn’t it?” as a ISC Governor, Sibyl had received several other benefits. However, she would wait to talk about them later during the meet. For now this speech would be enough.

Lon listened to what she had to say. It was not him that she was looking to convince anymore. He'd already made his decision and sought her out for that very reason. Cato Neimoidia had had enough of the issues that the Republic created for itself.

It was the other Senators they were now here to convince, and he knew that they would have their work cut out for them. He also knew that many of them already knew the position their people would want them to take.

Thank you for speaking, Governor, the Quellor Senator said. He was always outspoken and today was no different. He would also likely be the most difficult one to convince.

The ISC was created to protect worlds that were outside of the Republic. Fringe worlds that no one questions have grown, but how viable is a transition to this form of government for Core Worlds. Surely the needs of a world in the Core differs from those in the Outer Rim, he said.

After Sibyl finished her speech, the Senator of Quellor started to talk. As she had expected, the Mon Calamari was going to be most difficult to convince. He probably had several investments in the New Republic and was afraid that by joining the ISC, he would lose all of them.

Senator, indeed the needs of a world in the Core differs from those in the Outer Rim. Many of these planets need items and services that are considered basic at the Core." she started to explain, now she would need to be convincing. “While they need these things, we from the Core need someone to buy what we are offering.

Of course, through the ISC we would need to offer services with reduced prices, but imagine several Outer Rim planets desperate to pay for the technology and services that only we can provide. After all, they seek to become developed and what is the greatest example of development if not the Core Worlds?”she made a pause, watching their reaction. Sibyl believed that many of them would love to have direct access to the Outer Rim.

An ISC Governor also receives direct influence over a group of planets on the Outer Rim. This is our mission to make them achieve greatness, like the Core Worlds. To achieve it, we offer them services that only our planets can provide.” she knew that none of the representatives there were stupid. They would probably be thinking about the ways that they could exploit these Outer Rim worlds.

Even Lon had to admit he liked what he heard. He had to give credit to Sibyl, she was a smooth operator. Even the Quellor Senator who seemed like he almost wanted to find reasons to be skeptical let slip for the briefest moment his stern facial expression as she spoke. Or at least that was what Lon thought it was. It was always a bit hard to tell what the Mon Cala were thinking with their fish-like faces.

Indeed, there is a great deal of possibility for partnership, advancement, and investment. The ISC has already managed to bring together worlds that were of dubious position and turn them into a respectable government. And they've managed to keep themselves out of the war, he said. It was without a doubt one of the greatest draws of many of these worlds to the ISC. They didn't want to be dragged into another intergalactic civil war.

Speaking of the war, what will the ISC do if the Sith Empire attacks? Their borders are not so far from each other, but I would rather not see President Thorne pull a Chancellor Ro, said another of the senators. There was really no more explanation of what she meant that needed saying. Emil had shaken the trust of his allies in government deeply.

Sibyl was satisfied. Her speech seemed to be enough to make the Senator of Quellor less skeptical than he was before. The opportunity of having planets at the Outer Rim nearly begging for what they could offer was tempting for all the Senators at this meeting.

It was exactly what Tendree had said. By joining the ISC the Core Worlds would have an endless possibility of investment and other things. They could even explore the Outer RIm Worlds, if they were clever enough to do it without being discovered. Turning backwater planets dependents of their services and selling it as philanthropist work would be a good strategy to become more rich and to maintain a good image with the public.

The question about the war was an important one. It was one of the reasons why Brentaal joined the ISC. Being the doorway to the Core Worlds, the Brentaalan nobility feared that the Sith would turn the planet into a prize. A war could be good for business if it happens far away from you.

So far the Consortium has remained neutral with the Sith and it seems that the Empire is respecting it. If a war happens, it would be because they attacked the ISC first. It would be very different from what happened with Ro, who attacked Denon allegedly as a retaliation to the devastation of Firrerre.” Sibyl explained to them. “It was a terrible event, but Firrerre wasn’t a member of the New Republic. There was no reason for the Republic to meddle in this conflict. The worst part is that the Chancellor failed to liberate Denon. It only shows how impulsive Emil's actions were. Meanwhile, the ISC is being able to avoid any conflict with the Sith, while their borders are close to each other. The military of the Consortium is efficient, perhaps even more than that of the Republic, which failed to maintain control over Denon when the Sith counterattacked.

Lon nodded at what she had to say before the same Senator - from Commenor - spoke up again. She seemed at least partially satisfied, but not enough so that she would relent entirely from questions. Though to her credit, she seemed less confrontational than the Senator of Quellor.

If - Force forbid - the Empire does attack the ISC, is there enough military force to hold them off? Is there enough unit in the worlds to keep from being overwhelmed? Many of us feel that the Republic of the FWA alone don't have the power to defeat the Empire? The ISC is even more fledgling. How does the ISC expect to handle such a situation? she asked.

Don't mistake me, I'd much prefer to keep out of the religious feud between Jedi and Sith, but the "ifs" are what separates the forward thinkers from those who... don't excel, she said.

Sibyl could understand why the Senator of Commenor was asking so many questions about what would happen if the ISC went to war with the Empire. She was afraid for her homeworld and perhaps even feared that some of her investments would be lost because of it. The Governor and the rest of the Brentaal Houses shared this same fear.

The ISC military is very efficient and well organized. Secretary Carrick, who is responsible for it, knows what he is doing. He was able to organize this entire military in only a few months. It proved to be very efficient in dealing with the Five Syndicates. I believe that it’s enough to protect us in the case of a Sith attack.” Sibyl explained to the Senator. This conversation made her think that perhaps she could talk with Carrick about establishing a fleet for Brentaal.

The problem of the Sith isn’t that they are stronger than the other states in the Galaxy. It’s because the leadership of both the New Republic and the FWA aren’t efficient enough to deal with them. Chancellor Ro already proved to be the incarnation of the incompetence, while Prime Minister Belasi have no influence over the planet members of the FWA.” if these two had some desire to deal with the Sith, the Empire would have already been destroyed.

Their blind faith that the Jedi can miraculously defeat the Sith is what is giving the Empire time to expand.” the Jedi used to be useful allies, but Sibyl never cared for them. “The ISC doesn't share this belief. This is why I believe that if the Sith start a conflict with us, there will be more reaction against them.

The Senator seemed to have been somewhat satisfied by what the governor said. In truth most in the room didn't think there would be a war between the Empire and the ISC - at least not anytime soon - but no one knew what the future held, and planning for the worst was crucial.

I'd like to add that what may happen between the Empire and the ISC is certainly not worse than what has already happened between the Republic and the Empire, he said.

We cannot let the fear of "what may" blind us to the danger of what already is, he said with a nod. The Republic hadn't even tried a diplomatic approach. Though, in truth, almost no on really had. Neutrality was better than being dragged into a religious war. Bad for business that was.

And what kind of resources are expected of our worlds when it comes to maintaining this army for the ISC? Our local defense forces being on standby or loyal to someone else? she asked.

Sibyl agreed with what Lon was saying. The Republic is already in a conflict with the Sith Empire, while the ISC could enter in one. The homeworlds of these Senators were already prepared for this conflict. If a war happens between the Consortium and the Empire, they would need to do the same that they were doing now.

However, if a war against the Sith really happened, the Consortium would be economically prepared for it. After all, they weren’t facing an economic crisis like the one affecting the New Republic. There were great chances of some planet members of the Republic declaring bankruptcy during this conflict.

The ISC military is formed by existing planetary defense forces. This way, our already military becomes part of it. However, our planets still remain with a planetary defense fleet, which will be responsible to constantly protect them.” she explained, military talk wasn’t exactly her domain. "The ISC army also uses a great number of droids. I believe that some of your planets could offer some to be used by the army." she looked at the Neimoidians. Sibyl knew that they still had some droid factories and their defense forces still used them. They would be dumb if they not see it as an opportunity. They could start to produce and sell droids to the ISC military.

Lon was glad to see how smoothly she was handling things, and it gave him hope for these talks. The conversation went on for several more hours before they finally decided to call it a day. He knew that tomorrow would be more of the same, but in the meantime the pair had a moment to recuperate.

As the others began to disperse, Lon made his way over to Sibyl. Excellent work today governor. I was wondering if you might be interested in talking over dinner. Plan for tomorrow, discuss what went well and what didn't today, etc. he said. While he typically preferred his own company, this seemed like a decent opportunity for both of them and a chance to further cement their partnership.

If she agreed, he would head out to one of the speeders and head toward one of the local, expensive restaurants. It was said to be a local favorite, and Lon was a sucker for good food.

The meeting would continue for some more hours, with a small break to eat. Sibyl noticed how the Senators attacked the food like a swarm of locusts. The Senator of Quellor seemed to be the worst. He looked like a bottomless pit, eating everything without even stopping to breathe.

When they decided to finish the talks for today, Sibyl felt relieved. Even with it going well in her opinion, this meeting was really exhausting. She wanted to return to dinner and then return to her hotel room. However, when Lon invited her to dinner with him, she forgot completely about being tired. She saw this as a good opportunity to make a strategy to convince the other Senators to join the ISC and to perhaps to make some business between Brentaal and Cato Neimoidia.

Thank you, Senator Tendree.” Sibyl smiled and Lon. “I would love to go with you. I think that we are making some progress, but there is still much to be made and together I’m certain that we can plan things for tomorrow.” following the Neimoidian toward the speeder, the woman only hoped that he would know a good restaurant, because she was very angry. She barely could eat anything during the break, the Senator of Quellor swallowed almost everything like a vacuum cleaner.

The speeder made the trip relatively quickly for which he was glad. He had gotten to eat some of the food at lunch - always sure to get himself at least a little bit - but it had hardly been the full meal he was craving.

Quellor seemed to be ready to eat for everyone today. They must be doing poor economically if he's so deprived, he said, making something between a joke and a mockery of the more belligerent senator.

Maybe if we feed him first he'll just sleep through the whole meeting tomorrow and then vote along with the majority, he added.

Still, I thought you handled him quite smoothly today, he said as they walked to the maître d' who took them over to their seats. The restaurant served a wide variety of local cuisines and everything on the menu was reportedly good.

Sibyl couldn’t control herself and laughed with Lon’s comment about the Senator of Quellor. “Yes! His antagonism was probably due to his hunger. Didn’t you see how he calmed down after lunch? Quellor is probably lacking food resources for him to be this way.

During the break, the Mon Calamari seemed so desperate to eat the food that Sibyl thought that he was going to eat the plate and tableware. “It’s possible. Perhaps he will decide to join the ISC if he knew how much food he can have as part of it.” now was her time to make a joke. She didn’t know that Lon was this way, maybe they could be friends. She misses doing these comments of Jin.

While they walked inside the restaurant, the two continued to talk with each other. “Thank you, Senator. I hope that it’ll be convincing enough to have the other Senators join the Consortium.” if it wasn’t enough, Tristodd was going to pay. After all, he was the one that wrote most of what she spoke today.

After they arrived at a table, Sibyl would look at Lon. “Tell me, Senator, who do you think was already convinced to join the Consortium?” the Governor already had her own opinions, but she wanted to see what the Neimoidian thought about it.
