Drow clearly knew his Makashi: Hirani's slippery moves couldn't get him off guard, and when their sabers collided with his firm parry, Hirani slid back to the edge of the lily pad, only barely maintaining her balance. When she realized she wasn't going to fall, she said, through the Force, You were this close.

The duel was always going to be challenging, but it was certainly still fun, as she hadn't dueled with anyone but her master for many years. And, of course, she loved her puzzles, which this spar certainly was. She tried to stick what she knew best, which was the mind-games of lightsaber combat that she would play with her teacher when they could. Even though Hirani was always lose, her Master had taught her to never let her opponent get comfortable. She had thus come to believe that if one can finish a fight quickly, that is far better than if one drains all of their energy in a slower form like Soresu. Of course there had to be a balance — as going all-out at once was also a great way to lose one's energy — but in this case, she opted to try to make it quick.

[ @Fantasy Liver ]

Hirani took a second to regain her composure, and attacked again. Offense was always where she was always most comfortable in melee combat, so — with a few whirls of her saber in her right hand, to fake another diagonal attack — she would once again try take advantage of her speed, smoothly switching into a reverse Shien grip and lunging down, aiming to land a horizontal right-to-left stroke across the Ishi Tib's legs. It was an obviously risky move, since it would put her on the back foot if her opponent was not fooled by her attempt to fake a chest-height attack. If her speed was too much for Venn, however, it would mean a clean slice of the blade across both of his knees, and an immediate victory.

And where would the fun be without a little bit of risk?

Drow too was loving this duel. With every movement, every stroke, and every swing, it was a lesson to be learned and a bit of combat experience that Drow would take with him whether he lost or not. As much as Drow loved peace, he also understood himself to be the protector of the weak and he wanted to make sure that he was able to fight off enemy forces to the best of his ability in the future. After all, a dead Jedi can't do much and Drow certainly had much to do to redeem himself for his past sins.

The Twi'lek was not a particularly technical opponent and she also lacked raw strength. What she did not lack was craftiness and intelligence. Hirani made a diagonal slash that looked like it was coming for Drow's chest. But she then switched it up and aimed for his legs. Drow fell for the feint and made an overhead slash towards Hirani's head. If she continued with her attack, Drow would be struck in the legs and she'd be struck in the head.

"You're tricky!" Drow shouted encouragingly.

Moza did not have too long to wait before both of the Knights answered his question in the affirmative. The question that had weighed on him was suddenly gone, and that opened up a whole new realm of possibilities. Niman, the Diplomat's form, was a little looser in it's blade work as most knew. It blended so many different forms that, like Shii-cho, it proved a decent jumping off point into other styles, this was also known. But the trickiest part with Niman came with blending force work and blade work. This was in part because of the balance needed between the two to make the form viable. Yet the other aspect, the one not so obvious, was that to be truly effective one needed imagination to combine these aspects in unexpected ways. That was the real danger of Niman, which like the Diplomat, presented a simple exterior as a facade over complex machinations.

So it was that Moza had spent this time while waiting channeling the force into himself as previously mentioned. It was clear he was building something up, though what as of this moment had yet to be seen. Giran likewise used the moment to extend his senses into the immediate vicinity around him. While Moza knew the basic practice from his own minor practice of Soresu he was not as adept at it as the third form was something he recently took up within the past six months. Still he could feel the change in the force around his opponent, and with it a different building up in him. The burst of force in Giran's pull was quick and precise, enough to draw his lilypad across the relatively frictionless surface of the water. It dragged Moza toward's Giran, which suited him fine and the Ithorian did not seem to resist it. Instead he kept channeling the force, building up the power within him as his senses were kept attuned to the wider range.

While Moza couldn't have known Giran's hope was to unbalance him upon the collision of their respective lily pads. He had a similar interest in mind, though his was concentrated at a different point, and Giran's maneuver made it so he had to adjust his plan on the fly. This was where imagination came in though, and Moza readied himself as he drew closer, closer, and closer still during those seconds. Then just as their lily pads were near that point of collision he let lose the force he had been channeling within himself. The hand set at his chest flying out before him in a near punch. But the free hand did not aim at Giran, no, it aimed at the front edge of his own pad with a strong amount of force to try to topple the floating plant forward. In that same instance he channeled the other half of his reserve into his legs to leap off his own pad and launch himself into a flip above the Mirialan padawan. With his legs tucked in and his blade extended downward. All so that hopefully with the sudden shift in angle for Giran to a (hopefully unexpected) downward slope, and his own forward spiraling momentum, Moza would land a clean hit along Giran's back. Either way, should the blade be blocked or hit, his momentum would carry his larger frame to a lily pad behind Giran's own. One that would dip a little into the water as Moza touched down, but with a clean landing his weight would be evenly distributed to allow it to continue floating. The blindfolded Ithorian then spinning where he stood and returning both hands to the training saber in the low guard he first started the match with.

Oren adjusted his footwork and accurately angled his saber to lock with Bri’s. It was a smart move, and left him able to transition into any number of moves for a counter attack. However, it appeared that he was more focused on defending her own advances, rather than offering any of his own. Thus, Bri was rudely surprised when she felt him reach out with the force to grab at the water underneath their feet.

Bri had never been good at using the force to manipulate less physically solid items, and was unable to prevent the water from landing on her head and providing a proper dousing. The water was cold, and Bri felt herself involuntarily freeze up for a moment, the water soaking her hair and tunic. She stepped back slightly, still maintaining balance on the lily pad, pulling her saber away. “Hey!” she called out, hearing him start to laugh. Her tone sounding upset with just a hint of joking, “I thought we said this was a saber exercise!?”

Oren may have cheated, but Bri had no intentions of doing so, and prepared to catch him off-guard, with a straight jab forward in her left hand. Should he foresee and block her saber away, Bri planned to slice in an upward direction from her lower left, across Oren’s body.

Oren could hear the anger in her voice, as the water dashed across her head, leaving her cold and annoyed. He had to admit, it was a dirty trick, and it probably didn't come across as friendly as he hoped for it to be, leaving him feeling rather stupid over the situation. Does she think I'm a bad guy? That wasn't really my intention after all, the markings under his helmet vibrated out of embarrassment.

"Hey, I'm," he began to apologize, totally forgetting that they were in a fight at that moment. Her left hand would connect, cracking into the blast visor of his helmet, which cracked back into him and sending him back. His feet slipped on the lily pad and he fell back into the river, his eyes blinking in and out as he fell down into the murky depths.

The helmet he wore fell off and went down stream as he pulled himself back onto the pad, his nose gushing a stream of crimson, his body was soaked and it was clear he had lost. "Sorry," he'd mutter as he attempted to catch his breath, only realizing now that the training saber had fallen into the water as well. "That was a good punch," he'd mumble with a smile, as he placed his arm up to his nose in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

As she slipped to her knees, Drow's attack caught her completely off guard.

Szu'ta! At the very last second, Hirani would completely abandon her original attack to switch into a vertical parry. Simultaneously, while still sliding forward, she would lean as far back as she could in attempt to evade his impending attack. As their sabres clashed, neither opponent would be able to land a clean hit on the other. However, the pure strength of Drow's stroke—against the flimsy, last-second block of her blade—easily knocked Hirani's weapon from her grasp. Nonetheless, she would continue with her momentum, skidding by Venn on her knees and dodging his stroke with sheer flexibility alone, before using the Force to leap in the direction of her teammate, Giran.

Upon realizing she had, in fact, landed on a lilypad and not the bitter cold water she was anticipating, she took a few seconds to gather her bearings on the situation. From the sounds of things, Oren Zapan was already out of the fight. Which meant it was Giran and Hirani versus: Brienna Lanaamer, a Jedi Knight; an experienced combatant and Padawan in Drow Venn; and the other Padawan, Moza Aban, who himself was not to be underestimated. In short, Hirani would have said they were thoroughly kriffed, had she not been taught there was always hope.

[ @TRook ]

"We're gonna have to work together, Giran!" Hirani's competitiveness kicked into high gear. They would have to think faster and smarter than their opponents if they wanted to stay in the fight for much longer. Sensing around Oren for his training saber, she would reach into he murky depths with her mind, latching onto the soaking training saber, and pulling it out of the water, and into her hands...

[ @Cero Serat ]

Not a moment to soon, either. She suddenly sensed Moza somersaulting onto the same lilypad she had just lept onto. As he was about to land on her, she would ignite Oren's saber, making a left-to-right horizontal slice with her right hand as she weaved to her right, and out of his way. She hoped that Aban would be completely unaware of her position, and fall straight through her stroke, leveling out the playing field of the entire sparring session somewhat. Despite it being not her forte, Hirani would then switch into a defensive position, ready to parry, and calculate her best next move based on the actions of her oppenents.

The Twi'lek drenched herself in the light of the Force, once more, in deep focus. . . .

The Ithorian must have been more athletic than he looked, using the momentum Giran was providing with his pull and a push of his own he catapulted himself over Giran. If Giran hadn't been prepared the move would've certainly taken him by suprise.

In a slightly less urgent corner of his mind, Giran realised Oren had been taken out of the fight. He was bleeding buthe couldn't sense any urgency through the force. In contrast Giran felt a new passion within Hirani. The burning spirit of competition. He smiled to himself. He himself had no desire to win, he'd been outclassed from the very beginning but if Hirani wanted to win that badly who was he to stand in her way?

Giran opted not to block the strike from the Ithorian at all. He just flopped. He dropped onto his back, his saber held tightly to his chest inches from his face, and watched the Ithorian sail cleanly over the top of him. The sudden change of saber angle mid air was a nice touch, it'd probably have fooled him if he'd tried to block it. As Moza reached the zenith of his jump Giran pushed him. He had no way of knowing if Moza could resist it but if he couldn't... Well they'd both be wet he hoped.
"I hope you have a plan, I can't hold out forever!" Giran shouted at his teammate

"Good dodge!" Drow shouted to the retreating Twi'lek not disingenously. He was impressed by her flexibility, however that didn't change the fact that it seemed Drow and his team were winning. Or at least held the advantage. But Drow had learned long ago from his mercenary days that an advantage could easily and quickly be taken away if you weren't smart.

Hirani had retreated, leaving Drow without an opponent. At least for now. But he wasn't going to stand idly by and not help out his teammates. Seemed Hirani was now engaged in battle with the Ithorian Padawan. Drow concentrated, reaching out through the Force to find Hirani's discarded lightsaber and pulling it to himself. Shaking it dry, he activated her training lightsaber and reached out through the Force to sense where the spirited Twi'lek had gone. Readying himself, he hurled Hirani's training lightsaber so that it came at her like a javelin. If she wasn't careful, it'd hit her in the chest.

The chaos of battle was such that even in a short span so much could change. It was a lesson most warriors were intimately familiar with. But one Moza was still very much new to understanding. While he had been a padawan for some years, and had spent most of those dedicated to studying Niman as a martial form. He rarely got to experience actual combat, and even what little he experienced were sparring sessions in a controlled environment. His more ardent focus was on the force and his connection with it, as well as how to better ply his talents as a healer. So as a more...academic oriented student he was able to envision the sequence of events that he was about to perform, but not expect how they would turn out.

For instance, the heavy force push he threw to the lily pad Giran was standing on just before he made his jump. Moza knew it would disrupt the footwork needed for Soresu's defense, and would likely knock the Mirialan off balance. He knew it would leave him vulnerable for an attack from an unsuspecting angle. But what he did not account for was Giran completely forgoing defense and throwing his body backwards. The force of his form falling flat against the lily pad counteracted Moza's push brilliantly and would have left him sailing harmlessly by to the next pad behind Giran's own.

Moza also took for granted Hirani's intense engagement with Drow. In feeling out the fringes of their fight while keeping his focus on Giran, Moza did not sense the rising competitiveness in the Twi'lek. No, the Ithorian incorrectly assumed that the two would remain engaged and he would be able to focus on Giran unimpeded. So just as he summoned his gathered energies into his legs for the jump, and left his own approaching lily pad in his leap. He would be surprised to feel Hirani moving to the pad he was planning on landing on. Given his momentum and how his body was currently moving, there was no way he would be able to land and defend himself. Moza could feel that much as his arch was approaching it's zenith in those few seconds of action. What's more, he felt a profound peace that came with that understanding that he was likely to be hit and hard when he landed.

Yet battle proved ever chaotic, and once more Moza was proven wrong. For just as he reached the zenith, at a point where he could not defend himself, Giran would reach up and push at Moza's form. In an ironic twist, the push would adjust the course of Moza's fate from likely being taken out of the fight to giving him a chance to recover. The large Ithorian felt the invisible force hit him in his stomach like a punch as he would have been swiping his training saber down at Giran's unprotected back at that point in the maneuver. His forward momentum wasn't halted per say, but his trajectory would be thrown off by the push. As the blast of energy hit him at his core, his body in a frictionless space would rise up a few feet. This in kind would slow his momentum a little, but save him from landing on the same lily pad as Hirani. It was at that point Moza's sole attention was not so much to attack either padawan, but instead to fall with style and towards an unoccupied lily pad a few feet away. Even if that meant pulling the pad in a little more to catch himself easier on it. The landing wasn't pretty, he was not on his feet for it and had hit the center on his knees. The lily pad dipped a some, but remained buoyant for the Ithorian. His twin mouths breathing deeply as he tried to recover his breath, causing his neck to extend and contract as all four throats filled with air. At the same time he wheeled around towards his opponents as he had no plans to underestimate them again. Moza was not yet standing though as he hadn't the moment to do so. Instead in that immediate instant he raised his saber at an upward angle from his bottom right side to his upper left in a defensive posture. Keeping his tall form low and cutting down the points of attack on him drastically as he caught his breath once more.

Bri felt her fist connect with the blast shield on Oren’s helmet, offering a satisfying crack. It seemed he did not expect the assault and ended up falling back into the water with a slight groan. Feeling a change in his demeanor Bri took satisfaction in knowing that she was victorious. Disengaging the training saber and hooking it back on her belt, she reached up and lifted the helmet off of her head. Brushing a few stray strands of her hair back behind her ears, Bri knelt down and used her free left hand to fish Oren out of the water.

As soon as Bri pulled him out, she had to surprise a slight laugh at seeing his nose bloodied from her fist. Her humor slowly transitioned into slight embarrassment, feeling a little bad for crunching into his face. “Sorry about that,” the Jedi offered in reply, “guess I got a little carried away,” she added, somewhat sheepishly. In the end, they had both gotten wet, perhaps that was fair. Bri helped Oren back to the shore, and while she was still technically helping her two other Padawans against Oren’s, she figured to stand back, watch, and judge the learners, only preparing herself to re-enter the fight if necessary.

Her arms crossed over her chest, Bri looked over at Oren and asked a clarifying question, “Are any of these your padawans?”

Oren held his fingers against the bridge of his nose, squeezing as he felt a gentle warm stream of crimson drizzling from his nose. It hurt to touch, and he was most certain it was probably broken. Not that he could complain, he most definitely deserved the punch, but man did that sting. His brown eyes would shift over towards his fellow Knight, taking her in for the first time.

Maybe I hit my head on the bottom of my river or maybe I just enjoy a good punching. His eyes would trail up and down, but force be damned. He would shift his attention towards the fight between the students, tilting his head a bit in an attempt to look nuanced and cool. "My padawans?" His voice would crack, clearly he wasn't the best at this sort of thing, he'd quickly calm his voice with a low tone, "No, just a few students from my saber class." He'd chuckle, "If my padawan was anywhere around here, you'd be able to hear her from a mile away."

Giran grinned as he watched Moza literally fly into an unoccupied lily pad meters away. His glee was quickly snubbed out when he saw Hirani ready to strike where the Ithorian should have landed.
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't see you!" Giran shouted tapping his visor.
Giran reached out once again widening his senses to encompass Hirani, he couldn't afford to miss her movements again. Lucky for her he did. He sensed her discarded saber hurtling towards her right at the edge of his sense. He jumped onto one knee and pulled with his free hand on the hilt. If this all went to plan then he'd halt the momentum of the saber with his own leaving him with both sabers crossed in front of him.
"Sorry again" he shouted again embarrassed

Hirani had sensed something flying at her, but lifted her—well, technically Oren's—blade to block it, but it did not arrive. Instead, the errant saber spun off to her right, into the grasp on Giran Latt, and she was thankful that he was able to see it before she did and slow it's speed enough for that to be a possibility. Now, it would seem, it was two Padawans with an extra lightsaber versus two Padawans and a Jedi Knight. Still not quite even, but she figured the additional blade might balance things out just a bit more. Hopefully.

"You don't need to be sorry. If anything, I owe you one after that catch..."

Hirani, having suddenly realized their opponents had not launched any other attacks, went on the offensive. The Twi'lek would get a small run up before leaping off her lilypad, relying on the Force to propel her far enough to reach Moza's lilypad. As she came flying towards the Ithorian, her blade would come at him from a vertical angle, as held in her right hand, swooping upwards and forwards, once again employing the reverse Shien grip she was so fond of. If he was, for whatever reason, not able to parry, the stroke would swipe along his chest, and draw a line all the way up to his face.

Drow whistled through his teeth, impressed that his saber throw had been intercepted by Giran. The Miralian was good, no doubt about that. He'd have to try something new to obtain victory.

Though he was tempted to jump in and help Moza up close, he knew that it was always dangerous jumping towards people with laser blades. So he stayed safe on his lily pad, closed his eyes, and reached out with the Force, using a small Force Push to try and throw Hirani off-balance for Moza to finish her. The Force Push would be light - about the power of somebody shoving her - but he hoped it'd be enough to press an advantage. Then he'd shift back into a defensive form, ready to stand resolute against any potential counterattack.

Hirani's choice in opponent wasn't the most favorable for her method of attack. Moza, as he had landed, had remained kneeling and low to the "ground" or in this case lilypad. He had his saber in his right hand faced at an upward diagonal angle to cover most of his frame while he caught his breath. For the Twi'lek to then attack him from a jump while using a vertical slash moving upward was utter folly considering Moza's defensive posture. This mistake would likely cost her, but said something about leaping in blind to attack an opponent.

Moza was not alone in the moment as well, as his partner in this acted on his behalf. The blindfolded Ithorian could feel the wave of force energy targeted at Hirani's back. Her trajectory would likely be thrown off by the shove, but that was a window Moza could work with. After all some of the more basic maneuvers with Niman focused on using pushes and pulls to disrupt your opponent's balance, to full on pulling them into your blade. The adept Masterless padawan in feeling all that out began to rise. Using forward moment to spring upward at an angle from the center of the lily pad. Both his hands would rise with him in that smooth motion as he channeled the force through his large form. His left hand would extend out to Hirani, and in making a grasping motion he would yank it back towards his form. The force following the physical motion to yank her inward to him in a pull that acted in tandem with Drow's push. Likely throwing Hirani completely off her plan of attack with the sudden rush of momentum. In that same moment of rising up and forward his right hand would drop low and out to his side. The training saber extended into a downward angle and in short order brought up into an arching horizontal swing to meet Hirani's torso.

Should the punishing attack hit true between the push and pull of the force then Moza would be left off balance still and likely with his back exposed to Giran. It meant for him to stay in the match he would need Drow's protection and so the Ithorian was placing his trust in his partner. If Hirani managed to defend against the blow the change in force would likely leave him on more stable footing, though engaged with the Twi'lek.

Bri nodded as Oren explained that his padawan would have been heard before seen, which she didn’t quite understand, but pretended as if she did. Too noisy? Loud mouthed? Perhaps just the opposite of how Oren was. Bri figured that would probably fit well. She had never had a padawan but imagined that they were typically suited to learn from their master’s strengths and vice-Versa.

Turning her attention back to the duel, Bri remarked at the skill level of the padawans participating. They were definitely at a higher skill level than she was at her equivalent level of training. “Do you, uh, need a hand with that?” Bri turned to address Oren, feeling progressively worse about the stream of blood flowing out of his nose.

OOC: The PvP is going on a month now, and traditional rules have these types of threads at 2 weeks. Going to step in as Oren and put an end to it. I didn't enforce this rule, but something to keep in mind for a traditional PVP, each team has 48 hours to post, not 48 hours to post from one post--just so you don't get caught out in the real deal.
Oren could sense the confusion in Bri's expression, "She's got the mouth of a krayt dragon," he'd say with a nasally breath, his head shaking slightly at her offer to help. "It's okay," he'd say with a soft smile that highlighted his face, "I deserved it anyways."

He would turn towards the fight, watching the students clash and dance across the pads. He could see the excitement and confidence building in them, but if he let this continue for any longer it would drag on for an eternity. The position of the sun in the sky, hinted towards only a few hours left of sunlight.

Oren would step forward on the bad, his hands gently raising in the air, the water from the river would come up to form a liquid barrier between the students who were in mid combat. If one were to try and jump through it they would get completely disoriented and soaking wet. "Okay, that's enough for today...You all did well." He'd smile, "Master Bri beat me, but the rest of you did well...I'd say it was a draw." He'd laugh as he turned towards the Knight with a smile. He would begin to hop from the lilypads back to the shore. The students entail, it was a good day of sparring, he got a bit wet, but he had fun and he hoped the students had as well.
