It all seemed to happen at once, as soon as the Guardians stepped into the room the Zeltron and her droid companion leapt into action. The Zeltron, drawing a stun blaster, fired a miraculous bolt that managed to slow one of the looming constructs, while the droid charged the second Guardian with remarkable speed and astonishing bravado, managing to draw the full attention of the machine. It was remarkably fluid, and Korsak suddenly appreciated being caught in the middle of the strange trio.

But what truly caught his attention was what the human did, caught in an apparent panic and fumbling for something in her robes as the staggering Guardian drew closer. What she found was profoundly interesting and concerning: a blue lightsaber, that the human tried and failed to slash the arm of the Guardian with. The resulting crunch and crash of the Jedi being swatted across the room by the machine barely registered with Korsak, who instead tracked the falling lightsaber like a hawkbat following a womprat.

The saber had barely skidded to a halt before Korsak pounced, darting over to the fallen weapon and scooping it up to use in his own defense. He knew he couldn't use his powers or his own hidden saber in this fight, and he had no other weapons to defend himself with, so he did his best to hold the weapon like a rank amateur. Unfortunately, he might have done too well a job pretending not to know what he was doing, since be barely turned to face the Guardian before the lumbering machine closed the distance between them with a massive step and swung its hulking arm at Korsak's head.

He managed to dodge the incoming swipe, just barely as he felt the arm waft over him as he rolled to the side, but his Amaran-sized prosthetic arm was unable to maintain a grip on the human-sized weapon, which slipped from his grasp and skidded across the floor far from any of them. Now Korsak was on his back, staring down a Guardian which seemed to be rapidly regaining control of its system, with his only means of defense lying well out of his or anyone else's reach in the far corner of the room.

"HELP!!"

Kori was already taking aim at the second automaton when she saw Beedee's spotlight racing towards it and circling the deadly machine. By that time, the automaton was already close enough. Between Beedee's spotlight and the guardian's poorly-aimed beam of energy, the Zeltron had all the light she needed to take a well-aimed shot. The bolt briefly illuminated the hallway before hitting the automaton with a satisfying sound and dissipating. Go get'em, girl.

Unfortunately, the guardian wasn't facing Kori, so the shot landed on its arm. Still, it was enough to slow down the ancient machine for a couple of seconds. Hopefully, it would give Beedee some breathing room. A few more shots like that could probably... The sudden whir of an ignited lightsaber and a subsequent thump and plop from behind drew the Zeltron's attention. Turning around hastily, she saw her fellow Jedi lying on the ground, clearly wounded. "Nara!" the Zeltron yelled, rushing towards the opened door. "Kriff! Beedee, we've got wounded!" Perhaps a healing stim could help Nara up.

Then the blue lightsaber added some much-needed light to the room again. Beldan scurried to use Nara's weapon as a means to defend himself. Unfortunately, the Amaran didn't seem to be trained, or the saber didn't suit his physiology. The blade was extinguished moments afterwards, when the furred alien dropped it while trying to dodge the automaton's arm. All Kori had to go off of was the last location of the guardian, the occasional glint of pale blue... and Beldan's plea for help.

"Try and get me, scrap heap!" the Zeltron yelled in the heat of the moment, as she aimed her blaster in the direction of the guardian and pulled the trigger. The bolt went through the room and landed on the wall next to the guardian's head, off the target. Before everything went pitch-black again, the Zeltron could swear that the guardian started turning. The increasing pale blue light and the sudden urge to move aside confirmed that. Kori dashed sideways just in time—a beam of energy left a trace of the floor where she had been standing moments before. Too close for comfort.

The Jedi's next shot landed on the automaton's chest, but not at the power core. Kori couldn't say for sure, but the machine seemed to be getting slower for it. Perhaps one or two more shots could do it... The Zeltron reached out through the Force and tried to feel everything that'd help her predict the next move of her adversaries: subtle movements of air, the sound of steps in the distance... Even precognition, however unreliable it was.

Apparently, both ancient machines had deemed the Zeltron the biggest threat and headed towards her. No wonder, given her success with landing hits. Kori did want to distract the automatons, but the state of her allies had planted seeds of doubt and fear into her. Anxious, the Jedi took a few steps back. Her voice was no longer as loud; defiance mixed with resignation to fate and the Force: "Come on... Here I am..."

Dice rolls for the actions AND my thoughts about the results.
The negative consequence is that both automatons are focused on Kori now, unless destroyed or distracted again.

Master Nara is injured? Beedee disengaged from his tussle with the second guardian, running over to the Jedi's side to check on her vitals. The wet cough was not very comforting: even with a health stim, the Jedi knight will probably need to visit a clinic afterwards for a more thorough examination. Beedee popped a health stim out of his dispenser, carrying it gently so that Nara could easily take and apply the curative medicine.

While Master Nara was busy tending to herself, Beedee took off to assist Master Nykoria. The little droid didn't have much of a plan of attack, other than getting in close with his spark projector. With the weapon's short range, Beedee knew he had to climb onto the guardian and jam the implement into a joint in order to have the best chance of causing damage. Which he did: quickly climbing to the more sluggish guardian's knee and letting off a strong shock.

The guardian recoiled from the blow before quickly swatting the droid away with one arm. Beedee tumbled away like a ball, coming to rest on the floor with his head planted on the floor. A quick diagnostics indicated the blow jammed the opening to Beedee's health stim dispenser, making it unusable unless someone decided to pry open the cover to access the stims inside.

Beedee could see, as he got to his feet, that the damaged guardian's attention shifted to him again, but he might not be fast enough to evade the impending blast of energy that the guardian seemed to be about to let off.

Nara's head pulsed with pain. It was difficult to concentrate on much of anything happening around her. All she could focus on was her own self, trying to summon her energy to banish the pain. Trying to will the Force within and around her, swirling and pushing it towards her front. She didn't know how bad she was hurt. Not unconscious, which was a plus. Unfortunately, it was one of the few pluses. Her chest lanced with pain as she moved and her breathing was hard and heavy. There was something deeply wrong that was gonna need some real time to fix.

If she ever got out of the temple, that is.

Beedee approached, carrying a stim. Nara took it, pushing it against her upper arm. She felt it punch through her skin, sending the stimulant running through her body. It took a few seconds to work properly but the effect was visible. A little colour flushed back to her face. Her breathing stabilised. The pain went from constant lances and spikes to a numb, dull throb. Enough for her to clamber to her feet.

"Thanks Beedee..." she called out as the little lifesaver ran off to help. Her saber was.... somewhere. She hadn't noticed where it'd gone. She reached for her blaster, recalling how Kori had managed to cause some kinda damage to it. Had to try something, or else it was about to get a lot worse.

She raised the blaster and aimed, pulling the trigger. She swore she was aiming right at that blue thing in the center of the guardian, but both shots missed. Badly. The first smacked uselessly into the side of the guardian, just letting the energy spread across the stone. Pathetic, barely a crumble of dust off the thing.

The second? It hit the guardian right in the head... which was worth nothing at all for an automaton. Worse, the bolt bounced off the stone there and reflected off to the side of the room, smacking and bouncing off another wall. Nara couldn't see where it went next as she noticed that one of them had turned towards her. And it moved closer. Her eyes went wide. Somehow her shot had caught it's attention.

She raised her blaster again and pulled the trigger, only to be met with a metallic fizz and squeal. The barest hint of a red spark leaked from the end, utterly drained. Nara looked down in horror at her weapon as she scrambled back towards the wall. Hurt, weaponless and in trouble.

Dice post. Gee whiz my luck isn't good here. Saying that Nara is weaponless and has caught the attention of a guardian. She's running on fumes now so if one of them so much as looks at her funny, she's out for the count.

Once Korsak got his feet back under him, the Amaran scampered back towards the nearby wall, pressing his back against it to get his bearings and try to relocate the two Guardians in the dark. Again, the Zeltron and the droid had drawn off the attention of the two Guardians, saving Korsak and the wounded Jedi from further hostility for the time being. He was just beginning to recompose his thoughts when the human drew her pistol and drew one of the Guardian's attention again. The first shot did little more than scuff the construct's armor, while the second shot died in the muzzle of her broken blaster. She must have landed on it when she was swatted.

"Well then..." With no other weapons within reach, Korsak was forced to do something remarkably stupid to keep one of his only protectors from being crushed to death by a rogue automaton.

Korsak, small and swift, dashed forward across the floor towards the approaching Guardian and, at the last minute, threw his full (albeit light) weight into the shifting leg of the machine. Now, being small even by Amaran standards, Korsak more or less bounced off the leg of the Guardian with a dull thump and the clatter of his metal arm against the floor. Thankfully, or maybe unfortunately, his effort was able to briefly knock the machine off tis march, causing it to momentarily lose footing, then redirect its attention towards him.

"I'll distract this one, somebody take out that other farking Guardian!" If Korsak could keep this Guardian distracted long enough, maybe the trio could bring down the other automaton.

The first guardian didn't remain focused on Kori for long. Beedee rushed off to distract it, and Nara was shooting her blaster. Meanwhile, the second automaton was closing in. For the moment, Nykoria was the only one who could do something about it. The Zeltron turned to face that incoming threat before Beldan even suggested that. Maybe, if she could hit the power core..?

Inspired with her previous success, Kori rushed into darkness, blaster at the ready. She took a daring shot... and it went into the depths of the hallway, not hitting anything. On the bright side, it highlighted the automaton briefly, and it's hulking arm racing towards Kori at full speed. She didn't have time to dodge. There were literal moments to brace for impact and hope that the armor and the Force would mitigate the damage somewhat.

The hit sent the Zeltron flying across the hallway and made her let go of her prized stun blaster. At least it freed up her hands—as Kori was about to land, she reached out instinctively, trying to attenuate the fall with the Force. That whole experience reminded her of how she had crashed a swoop bike once—one of the many events that flashed across Kori's mind during the flight.

Rolling with the fall, the Zeltron finally brought herself to a halt with her arm. Get the kriff up, Tallis! Aware of the imminent danger, she gathered all her will to fight through the pain and stand up as soon as possible. It was as if her drill instructor back from Coruscant Academy had shown up in the derelict temple to shout at her.

"Alright, kriffhead, playtime's over..." the Jedi mumbled rather loudly, with clear annoyance and grim determination in her voice. She reached to the back of her belt, unclipped one of the 2 lightsaber hilts hidden there, and took her ready stance: both hands on the hilt that was aimed up at 45 degrees towards the incoming automaton. The blade ignited with a whir, illuminating the area around Kori and the incoming guardian with azure glow.

Dice roll for Kori's failed attack. Without the stun blaster, Kori's only saving grace is her lightsaber and the Force. She has to reveal herself as a Jedi now.

With the situation getting dire, Beedee decided that he had to take matters into his own appendages. With how beaten up Master Nykoria and Master Nara were getting, the droid knew that if he didn't make his own mark on the struggle, getting out of the temple would be difficult.

With Beldan throwing the guardian off-balance, Beedee sped in to strike it again. His auditory sensors did pick up that the Amaran wanted the trio to finish off the other one first, but Beedee noted that this one had suffered more damage over the course of the fight. By his calculations, eliminating one opponent quickly was more important than keeping the two guardians split apart.

Once again, BD-9 climbed up the guardian's humanoid structure, this time pulling out his spark projector from the bottom of his leg and jamming it deep into the guardian's neck crevice before letting off the most powerful blast he could muster. The guardian's frame stiffened as electricity surged through its body, forcing it to drop to both knees.

But the attack was not without its sacrifices. In order to deliver the powerful shock, Beedee released the safety limiters that contained the amount of power that the spark projector would allow. The weapon itself was not damaged, but his power core was severely drained. Beedee tried to jump off the guardian, but ended up tumbling off and landing flat on the ground like a pancake. By his diagnostics, Beedee's power core was no longer able to operate at full capacity, from the combined energy drain and damage sustained to it. He definitely will need maintenance after everything is over. As for the fight itself, BD-9 could probably continue on, but he could no longer risk using his spark projector again.

// Finish it off! // Beedee whistled, in reference to the crippled guardian.

Once that guardian has been neutralized, they can gang up on the last one. Or fall back, if need be.

The others took the attention off her, which let Nara breathe again. And think. That was important now. Take it all in. She saw Beldan whack into the leg of one guardian, as Kori tried to blast the other. When the other Jedi ignited her saber, Nara blinked in realisation. Saber. Where was...

There.

In the light of Kori's blade, she saw her hilt. Scattered off to the other side of the chamber, a fair distance away. It must have rolled really far, she thought, having missed Beldan's attempt to use it. She was distracted when she saw that surge of energy pulse through the guardian's body, bringing it to it's stony knees. Quickly followed by the metal clang of Beedee tumbling off it.

Now. There's your chance.

Adrenaline coursed through her again. They could press the advantage now. The pain and dullness swept away as Nara breathed, feeling the Force. Even with her bruised, half-smashed body, she picked up the pace. Moving towards the kneeling guardian, through air that felt like treacle. Inside, she knew her body was complaining, trying to resist, pain coursing through her. But she barely felt it. Whether it was the pressing urge to help them, the adrenaline or just the Force, she didn't know.

As she moved, she reached out with her hand. Her saber rattled slightly on the floor. Then it flung towards her, slamming into her palm with a satisfying smack. Nara twirled the switch, ignited it. Everything went blue as she ran right up to the guardian. The crunch of stone and metal filled the room as the guardian tried to move, vainly twitching it's arms.

Nara yelled wordlessly as she held her hilt in both hands and shoved the blade deep into the shimmering, blue core. It resisted at first; the sound of cracking crystal echoing around them all. She pushed harder, until she heard it start to shatter. That pale-blue energy leaked out around it's casing. Nara gritted her teeth and shoved her lightsaber up, cutting through stone and metal, slicing right through it's chest and it's head. Leaving nothing but an empty statue leaking wisps of blue energy, scored from head to core where she'd sliced through it.

One down... Nara thought, breathing deep as the fatigue hit her hard.

Here! One down, just the one facing Nykoria left.

While this had not been his original plan, he was more than happy to see the droid and the human throw themselves to his defense, first distracting then dismantling the Guardian with a lightsaber. He took a small note of satisfaction in watching the loathsome machine crumble without its power core, although he had hoped to get a better look at the mysterious energy source once this was over. Hopefully the other automaton would be a bit more intact when they were done, although looking over at the piercing blue glow emanating from the apparent other Jedi's lightsaber, it was clear they would not be preserving these two historical specimen.

With the Human's lightsaber back in her hands, Korsak was forced to find another means of helping to bring down the second Guardian. Scanning the room for another weapon he could use, he focused on the discarded stun blaster of the Zeltron, lying on the floor after being smacked out of her grasp. He raced over to the fallen weapon, and with the construct distracted Korsak was able to reach the blaster without being nearly clubbed over the head by a massive stone fist. Unfortunately, the blaster he picked up had not gone unscathed, and the second he tried to pulled the trigger with his mechanical finger, an agonizing electrical discharge shot through his body, causing him to yelp in pain.

It wasn't a full stun bolt, but whatever it was left Korsak struggling to stay upright and turned his cybernetic arm into a limb, dangling weight on his right side. The Amaran tried to steady his ragged, strained breather, while beating fruitlessly on his nonfunctional cybernetic arm.

Kori didn't know what her companions were up to. There was nothing but pitch-black darkness, the light of her own saber, and the hulking enemy up ahead. Even the pain from the injury felt... disatant. The Zeltron made a step towards her adversary... Then another... One more... Steps became faster, and soon Kori was running to her adversary, lightsaber at the ready. Barely slipping under the guardian's arm flung at her, the Jedi plunged the azure blade into the automaton's leg with a sweeping motion.

Whatever it was made of, the material held on against the lightsaber pretty well. Kori clenched her teeth, pushing the hilt with all her strength and calling upon the Force to make progress. The extra second that slicing through the leg took felt like an eternity. The Zeltron exhaled with a loud grunt as the blade finally made it through. Once free, it moved in an arc and ended up pointing at the ground, on Kori's opposite side from the automaton.

The Zeltron turned around to face the automaton's back, knowing that it was in the bag. Flinging her free arm forward and downward, she sent forth an impulse just enough to knock the severed leg from under the old machine. Now off balance, the automaton tumbled down on the side, before rolling to rest on the "stomach". "Checkmate, you son of a bantha," the exhausted Kori exhaled.

The Jedi approached the downed guardian and climbed on its back. Shaking her head and blowing away an unruly strand of indigo hair, she twirled her azure blade and plunged it deep into the automaton's power core. It was as if Kori drew the curtains, letting the pale blue light of the power core fill the hallway. It was supposed to die down, but it wasn't...

"Oh poodoo!" the Zeltron extinguished her saber, made a sharp turn and kicked off the guardian with all her effort, trying to gain distance. Next moment, the wave of pale blue energy blasted from the power core, briefly illuminating the room and catching the Zeltron mid-air, sending her even further away, to land with a loud pained yelp.

After hitting the floor, Kori's body rolled a few times before coming to a halt on her stomach. Somehow, she had managed to hold on to the lightsaber. The Zeltron tried to get on her fours, but the a jolt of pain in her chest sent her to the ground again with an angry grimace. Of-kriffin'-course. Now that the fight and the surge of adrenaline was over, the earlier hit from the automaton was letting its presence known. It might be a broken rib... sure felt like ALL of them. The lump on her head and a bruise on her elbow reminded of themselves as well. "Beedee..." she mumbled, oblivious to the damage that the droid had taken. "I could use a stim..."

The Zeltron was probably better off than her Jedi colleague. She'd even be able to get up, given a few moments. But right there and then, the stone floor and the lack of movement were way more enticing...

Beedee wanted to cheer at the defeat of both guardians, but his sensors quickly picked up a build-up of energy in the final defeated automaton.

// Run away! // he blared as he scurried to cover as best he could with his taxed body.

He managed to avoid the worst of the shockwave by hiding behind the wreckage of the first defeated guardian. Once it seemed that everything quieted down, he poked his head over his cover, scanning the immediate area for additional threats. None presented themselves, for now.

"Beedee, I could use a stim..." he heard Master Nykoria say.

Uh oh. Beedee headed over to where the Zelton laid prone on the floor. He moved to where she could see him, antennae lowered in apology. The cover for his dispenser was still misaligned, preventing the droid from opening and providing the stim that the Zelton was asking for.

// I am afraid I can't do that right now. // Beedee warbled, shaking his head.

Master Nykoria's wounds definitely need to be looked at, but they were not too severe, by his diagnosis. Given what they had encountered so far, venturing deeper into the temple seemed foolhardy at this point. But BD-9 is just a droid.

// We should examine those automatons and withdraw for now. // Beedee offered his advice.

Nara stumbled towards the nearest wall, leaning against it as she took deep breaths. She'd been through the wringer alright. Smacked around, tossed aside, running on pure fighting adrenaline, healing stim and the Force. Most people would be on the floor, writhing in pain and hoping for rescue.

A Jedi Knight does not give into pain so easily.

It wouldn't be long though. Everyone had limits and Nara knew she'd not just passed hers, she'd raced on past them into new and interesting pains. At some point soon, it was going to overwhelm her and then she'd be down on the floor. She knew she was in no fit state to continue. Judging by the state of her companions, they weren't either.

She clipped her saber to her belt and look at Beldan, watching him move with his limp arm. Then she turned to Nykoria, kneeling beside her. Giving her a quick once over. Not too bad. Lotta bruises come tomorrow. She whistled a little, suddenly feeling a bit dizzy and faint.

"I'm okay, I'm okay..." she lied, more to herself than anyone else. She nodded as BD made his suggestion. "I agree. We were unprepared for this. I think we know what happened to all the people, we know enough to report back. I'm... not fit enough to continue." It felt wrong to say that, to admit defeat when she was still clinging to consciousness. But being bullheaded about it would get her killed.

"We need to go. BD, you need fixing up and Beldan... your arm needs resetting." Nara stood up, looking back towards the entrance, before holding her hand out for Kori to grab. If she pulls hard enough, I'll probably keel over next to her.

Korsak watched as the Jedi brought the final Guardian down with a less-than-masterful stroke, causing the construct to drop to the floor in a heap. Unfortunately, it seemed that the Zeltron was not done with the crumbling machine and intended to finish the job by striking at its core. He figured that might have a violent reaction, but he was more concerned about the loss of an active Zeffo power core than the Jedi's safety.

"N-No, wait-" He'd barely taken a step before the Jedi plunged her blade into the construct's core, and was forced to unsuccessfully dive away from the exploding machine. "...fantastic."

As the trio slumped, curled, or otherwise limped away from the two decimated Guardians lying in the middle of the room, Korsak set about trying to repair his damaged arm. By raising it with one hand and beating it against the wall of the nearby tunnel as hard as he could, which in his current state was admittedly not that hard. To his surprise and amazement, however, it seemed to work, as the limp, twitching limp seemed to snap back to functioning.

Granted beating his prosthetic arm on the wall damaged both its chassis and was not fun for his nervous system, but it seemed his arm was back in working condition just in time to address the two Jedi.

"Well, my arm appears to be in order, I am not here for villagers, and I know the people who made this tomb didn't create those contraptions in bulk. I believe this is where we part ways." Korsak did not wait to discuss the issue with any of them, instead turning to walk (or more accurately shuffle) down the hallway the Guardian had come from, before turning briefly. "I thank you for your timely arrival, Jedi."

Only once Beedee had scurried to her aid, did Kori notice that something was wrong. The dispenser never opened, and the droid was looking... apologetic? Then the Zeltron noticed the damage that the droid had taken. Somehow, even the bad news and the cute "bow" made her smile. "Guess both of us got our feathers ruffled today, eh?" she mumbled with a pained smile, which turned into a sour expression with clenched teeth as she tried to get up on her knees. That's when the wounded Nara approached.

How the human Jedi was still standing at that point, Nykoria couldn't comprehend. The beating Kori took was nothing compared to what Nara had endured. There was certainly more willpower and determination in that young girl than met the eye. Or maybe Beedee's stims were that great. Yet even Knight Allam had her limits. And although Kori couldn't understand Beedee's advice, she shared the sentiment about the mission. The fact that Nara called it quits first made it easier for the Zeltron to agree.

"We'll be back," Kori accepted Nara's help after some hesitation, more as a token gesture than a means to get up. "We'll radio to the Order. Maybe they'll send more people to search for..." the Zeltron wanted to say "survivors", but their own experience in the temple made it highly unlikely. "To give some closure," she added quietly, now standing next to her human companion.

Kori had clipped her saber and summoned the dropped glowrod to her hand by the time Beldan was done "fixing" his arm... if bashing was a way to fix things. "Well, it's your choice," the Zeltron reiterated what she had told the Amaran outside the temple—which seemed like a lifetime ago. "If you do run across survivors, tell them the way is clear." Kori didn't have much hope, but it was worth a shot, right? Something told her the Amaran wouldn't indulge himself in further conversation, so it was "back to business" for the Jedi.

Raising her glowrod up in the air, the Zeltron looked around: "Ah, there you are!" She reached out with her free hand and closed her eyes, for her stun blaster to land in her hand a few moments later. She inspected the damaged weapon with a sigh, before holstering it and clipping the shining glowrod to her belt. It was time to head back to civilization.

"Come on, bud, we're going home," she addressed the droid with a smile, that mixed exhaustion with consolation and relief. "Need a hand?" Kori turned her attention to her companion, genuinely concerned about Nara's well-being. Although they hadn't known each other for long, the Zeltron was taking a liking to her partner. And thanks to their efforts, they were alive to fight another day.

Beedee gave a nod of agreement as Master Nykoria proclaimed that they were leaving. As much as the little droid wanted to stay and continue exploring, being foolish would garner a high price for the trio. Beedee moved ahead of the two Jedi, guiding them back to the break in the wall.

As they made their way to the exit, Beedee looked back at where Beldan had left them. He felt a little jealous that the Amaran was largely capable of continuing without them. Is he looking for any specific artifacts or treasures? Or is he just treasure hunting? Given none present are able to understand him, Beedee was left to wonder.

He intends to return to the temple, for sure. It is merely a matter of whether the Jedi Order permits them to. That will, of course, be up to the Jedi Knights and how they present their case.
