It was evening time, and the town in question was small, a thick fog engulfing it. It was far away from big cities like Iziz. It was located within Sector Q-5, deeper in the jungles. It didn’t have walls around it like the bigger cities, but the reports from here caught Trys’s attention at once. She had barely survived Kafrene, and she had been horrified by what she had seen. Onderon was on the datapad as a potential target for releasing the disease. At this point, it was clear this was a deliberate effort by the people that created this.

From the research she did on the notes, it had begun as a serum to try and make super soldiers. Part of the appeal was to be able to ‘fight Force users’. However, the horrible side effect was that the hosts lost all control and developed a ravenous hunger to where they would eat any living thing in their path. The more time that passed, the less they resembled their humanoid selves, twisting into an aberration.

The town here had reports of sightings of oddly behaving humans. Trys wondered if this was the exact location from the Onderon mentions in the datapad. She was better prepared this time - geared up with tougher armor and with guns that actually killed. Trys had warned Nick to do the same, though she knew he would get quite the shock upon facing this problem.

She arrived at the local sheriff’s office and was waiting for Nick. The man was shaken from the reports he had seen and he was waiting to brief them both. Trys was already puffing on a cigarra, not at all looking forward to getting into this again.

Wisps of fog swirled around as he made his way from the small "spaceport" and the local police station. After hearing the stories Trys had told, this place majorly creeped him out. He hadn't told anyone, especially Trys that he couldn't even handle mildly scary holo-movies. He could face down some of the Galaxy's worst criminals, and a ghost story would have him sleeping with the lights on.

He walked in the door and found Trys. He sat down "This place creeps the shit out of me." he whispered as he leaned over. "We could have at least arranged to meet during the day." he continued.

Nick shifted slightly, not used to the heavier armor that Trys had suggested. He was hoping she was blowing things out of proportion, but exaggerating wasn't much of Try's thing from his experience.

He was about to complain further but they were approached by a man who had looked like he had seen a ghost or seven of them. This did not bode well for Nick. "U..uh...thank you for coming." the man said shakily. "My name is Horrin Veli, I am the Mayor. Hopefully you have been briefed about what has been going on, but if not, these files should explain what we know." he said laying them down in front of Trys.

Trys took in sight of Nick and could immediately tell he was having a mild panic attack. She never saw him unnerved, and that managed to shake even her. She grimaced at his words, “Yeah...yeah day probably would’ve been bettered,” She muttered quietly, feeling sheepish for agreeing to come out here. It was the damn mayor that wanted to meet now!

Trys looked through the files and handed them over to Nick to review. They had graphic pictures of bodies shredded apart, limbs missing and snapshots of people that started to look less and less like people. Trys kept her focus on the Mayor.

“When did these….events begin to occur?”

“About two weeks back,” The mayor said. The sheriff came to join them, looking equally pale, “We thought to contact you since you had seen this before.”

“We’ll get it handled,” Trys reassured him, hoping Nick would keep it together while looking through the files. She turned to the sheriff, “You said there was an area you wanted us to investigate?”

“Yes,” He explained, “I have some vehicles out front for you. Two of my men will join you.”

After a moment, Trys and Nick were led outside to speeders. She and Nick would be in one, while the two local police would get in the other. They started their engines and led the way to the location. Trys had an uneasy feeling about all this, but she knew she couldn’t fall apart.

“These things...they’re unnatural,” Trys said quietly, “If this gets out of hand, it could be real bad. We can’t have this going to a big city like Iziz.”

It only took a few minutes for them to arrive at the location in question. From the looks of it, it appeared to be a hospital that had all sorts of tapes and locks at the front doors. Trys grimaced at the sight, glancing around at their two backups that looked like they barely graduated from a police academy. She turned to Nick, putting her helmet on, “...You ready?”

He let Trys do all the talking with the mayor. He unconsciously bounced his leg up and down rapidly, trying to get his nerves under control. At least when it was time to head to scene they could drive there instead of walking. His stomach turned slightly,

"Hold on a second." he said as they stood in front of the hospital. "You know I have your back, but this is kriffing insane." he said gesturing towards the abandoned hospital. "Shouldn't we have a containment unit or atleast more manpower to handle this?" he asked. "No offense to both of you." he said nodding towards the two uniformed officers approaching them.

As Trys put on a helmet, he wished he would have thought of that. He had brought a slightly more protective blast vest but that was it. He had two blasters on his belt. He let out a sigh, running a hand through his hair disheveling it some. "Fine!" he finally said. "Let's go."

One of the officers piped up before Trys could answer, “Uh, look around, princess. We ain’t a big, hot shot city. We’re out in the boonies. You’re lucky you even got us,” The man glared at Nick, spitting a glob of tobacco on the ground as the other man loudly drew in a snort before hocking a loogie. Trys remained silent, deciding that Nick had his answer right there.

She was about to mention Nick’s lack of helmet to him, but she figured he was irritated enough already. They quickly got to work getting rid of the chains and tapes that blocked the way, and Trys gently pushed the door open to avoid making noise. She could see a long hallway ahead of them, and lights flickered on and off.

Loose papers littered the floors and there was an eerie silence all around them. Trys drew out the rifle she had brought with her, having ditched her stun gun for this endeavor. She walked ahead, glancing into side rooms as she passed.

“So what’s the deal here?”

“There were several people….eaten here and they evacuated the entire hospital,” One of the men explained, fear creeping into his voice, “They locked the hospital down after that without investigating further. So we’re here to see if uh….anything’s left behind…”

The door to the hospital opened, and Nick raised his blaster in one hand, flashlight in the other. The place was trashed, there was a blood smear further down the hall that led down another hallway. Nick swallowed as they stepped inside. The doors were closed behind them, hopefully maintaining containment if something happened to them.

The lights flicked on and off sporadically. Nick looked over the wall, noticing someone at scratched "HELP ME" into the wall from apparently bloodied fingernails.

There was a loud thudding noise on the floor above them and then a sound of something being dragged across the floor. Normally he would say something sarcastic, but he felt like breathing in the place was loud enough to draw attention.

They continued down the hallway, noises coming from further inside the hospital. They saw plenty of dead bodies in various states of being eaten.

They passed an open observation room with a large glass window looking inside. As he shined his light in, he saw the four people inside. "Shit." he said "We need to get them out of there." he said, looking back to Trys.

They got the door open and one of them grabbed on to Nick. "We need to get out of here..we need to get out of here now." the man said frantically. "But what about the woman on the radio?" one of the women said. "Forget about her! We need to get out while we can." he replied. "No, someone needs to go to her!" the woman responded, shoving the radio in Nick's hands. "She is somewhere upstairs. Please, you have to go get her. She said she was trapped."

Nick looked at Trys for a moment. "You get them out of here. We need to set up better containment. Whatever is in here can't get out."

Trys looked over where the bloody words were scratched on, a sinking feeling at the pit of her stomach. She could tell things were tense in the group and no one said much. Normally a group of Rangers usually had some jokes or conversation on investigations, but there was pindrop silence here.

She saw the blood trail and then came across the bodies. Trys looked over at Nick to see how he was handling things, knowing this was his first exposure to all this, “You doing okay?” Trys asked quietly. She needed everyone to be 100% focused to pull this off, and she remembered how shaken she had been when she was first introduced to all this.

After a moment Nick mentioned people. Trys grimaced at once, following after him, “Wait, we can’t be sure!” They had begun to open the door before she could stop them and she had her gun leveled. The people looked at her with fright as she quickly looked over them for any obvious injuries.

When Nick turned to her, Trys was appalled, “What?! We’re supposed to stick together through everything. What happened to that?” She hissed, distracted as one of the women loudly began to sob. Trys shushed her as much as she could, but it was useless. She knew Nick wasn’t going to budge, and they couldn’t very well cut these people loose. Trys sighed, “I want you on comms at all times. I’m going to get them to a medical bay and try to come back immediately.”

She turned to the other two officers that came with them, “Stay with Ranger Shaw over here,” The men grumbled and protested by complied. Trys clapped a hand over Nick’s shoulder, “Please be careful. Don’t be a hero if it looks completely kriffed, pelase,” She met his gaze for a moment before turning to leave with the others.

After a moment, Nick would hear a voice coming very faintly through the radio, barely above a whisper, “....anyone there?” The voice trembled, “A-anyone? H-hello?”

"It will be alright, Trys. They need you right now." he said. Trys warned him to be careful and not to be a hero which made him grin for e first time since he had arrived on the planet. "You too."

With that, they went their separate ways. He nodded to two local officers and the slowly started down the hall way. They hadn't taken 15 steps when a voice came in over the radio which about made Nick's soul jump out of his body. "I'm here." he said "I'm with the Sector Rangers. Where are you?" he asked, trying to whisper as not draw any attention to them.

She said she was in the basement level in one of the labs. Nick cursed to himself again for the hundredth time today. "Alright, we are coming to get you." he said, clipping the radio to his belt.

They made there way down several hallways, trying to find a stairwell down. Nick rounded a corner and spotted one of the undead creatures and just managed to duck back behind cover. It seemed to sniff the air as it shambled down another hallway. Nick's heart was beating out of his chest.

A moment later, they found what looked to be a map of the building. Nick had to wipe a dark-colored ichor off of the thing to even read it. It was all he had not to gag, and he had spent his fair share of time around dead bodies. They backtracked and found the stairwell, Nick slowly opening the door as they made there way inside.

The voice on the radio suddenly went quiet, and it was clear that it had been switched off on the other end. Truthfully, Riley was scared beyond belief. She was crouched beneath a table, and she could hear movement just outside the door of the lab she was in. When Nick would walk through the door, he would be faced with a hallway and a creature that was standing in front of the doors to the lab with its back turned to him.

The figure appeared to be a nurse, one of her feet twisted and facing the wrong direction as tendons were visible. The foot dragged as she walked, a rattling breath exhaling as she did so. She came across the door, sniffing and inhaling. After a moment, she moved back and then jutted forth to slam against the glass segment of the door. She moved back and did it again, entirely unfazed by the blood that began to smear against the glass.

Riley could hear the repeated thuds, and she squeezed her eyes shut, tears freely streaming down her face. She didn’t dare make a noise, and she worried the radio would make things even worse. The nurse zombie screeched as she clawed at the glass, one of her hands sliding down to slam against the door handle and pressing it down and then releasing. More slamming, and she pressed down and released.

One last attempt caused the door to finally creak open. The nurse leaned in to take a sniff and would go ballistic if she could smell the live human inside.

Nick and the two local PD crept down the stairwell, hearing echoes of various scratching and thudding sounds throughout the building. He forced himself to focus on the task at hand.

They made it down to the bottom of the stairs, a single door labeled "Labs". Nick held his breath as he slowly opened the door an inch and looked out. Further down the hallway, there was one of the creatures. It screeched, a sound that made Nick's stomach turn as he eagerly tried to get into the room.

Nick held his blaster in one hand, pulling a knife out in the other. It was sniffing the air, but it was pre-occupied by whatever was in the room. He hoped it was the woman they had been looking for.

The door creaked open and the zombie leaned inside. Nick picked up his pace, careful not to slip on the blood slicked floors. As the creature began to go wild over the scent of the woman, Nick lunged and drove his knife into the back of the creature's neck, going through its spinal cord.

It twitched for a moment before falling to the ground. "Hello?" he whispered into the room, not seeing anyone right away.

Riley heard the door creaking open and she knew she was done for. She knew it would only be a matter of seconds before the zombie woman burst through the door and tore her to shreds. Did she want to face that? Did she want to feel the pain of having chunks of flesh torn up bit by bit? She had a knife near her, and she quickly grabbed the handle. Riley knew just where to cut to end her life. She inhaled and exhaled slowly, thinking about what she was going to do.

As soon as the zombie dropped, one of the PD behind Nick shook his head, “This is real kriffed up, man, I don’t get paid enough for this shit,” He said, looking around, “I ain’t wanna be here, I wanna leave,” The other man nodded and they both began to discuss leaving and how it was pointless to even be here.

Meanwhile, right as she was about to use the knife, Riley noticed the noises stopped. This was followed by a quiet male voice, followed by more talking. Riley’s eyes shot open - she knew these things couldn’t speak. She quickly scrambled to her feet, rushing towards the doors up front. She saw a man standing there and saw he was in uniform of some sort. Riley flung her arms around him, “Oh my god!” She gasped, “Oh my god….someone came...oh my god!” She kept repeating for a moment before finally pulling back from him.

Riley was wearing a lab coat, her hair disheveled. She looked at all of them, the terror on her face slowly subsiding, “I didn’t think anyone would come…”

The men behind Nick cleared their throats and straightened up, “Well of course, m’am, we’re always doin our duty to protect beautiful ladies,” He flashed a toothy grin.

Riley looked past them, already distracted, “There are a lot of them out there. They’ve been feeding on the patients left behind. All of the other lab workers tried running and they….” She shook her head, “They would have smelled you. It won’t be easy heading back.”

Two two cops behind him contemplated bolting, none of them were too keen on staying here a second longer than needed. He wished they would have kept it down. He was about to call out on last time when something from the corner of the room ran at him.

If would have been one of the zombies, he would have been dead for sure. Everyone jumped back, one of the cops tripped on some abandoned equipment which made a loud clanging noise as the woman clung to Nick.

Before he could respond to her, there was a loud screaming noise towards the end of the hallway as three of the creatures came into view. "We need to go, now" he said pulling her along towards the door before starting to run.

The zombies were gaining on them as they rushed towards the group. Nick pulled the door closed just as they slammed against the door. He hoped they wouldn't be smart enough to use the handle right away.

"I'm out of here." one of the officers said, clearly panicked. He dashed up the stairs towards the level they had entered on. Nick tried to stop him but he just burst out the door, right into the arms of the whole group of zombies that had congregated at the 1st-floor stairwell door. Nick caught up, know it was too late for the man as the group tore pieces out of him. He closed the door, grimacing. Rangers didn't leave people behind. He didn't leave people behind.

"We aren't going out the way." he said as they still heard the man's gurgled screams for several more seconds. Their only option to go was up. He turned towards the woman they have found. "You know of any way out from any of the upper levels?" he asked in a hushed tone.

Riley heard the screeching and didn’t need to be told twice. She bolted into a run with the others, making their way up from the basement as she could hear the noises of the zombies getting closer. Within moments, one of the men panicked and started bolting in the direction of the zombies. Riley tried to call after him, but he burst through the door and was promptly attacked.

“Oh no…” Her face went pale, her eyes wide, “Oh no no no…. This is bad. This is real bad,” She turned to look at Nick, “That’s fresh kill. It’ll attract hordes of them. That smells different to them than people that had already passed,” The zombies had been feasting on old patients that had been left to die and withered away back when the evacuations began.

Riley paused to think for a moment, “There’s another set of stairs….clear on the other side of the building,” She frowned, thinking about how much distance they had to cover. Riley slowly began to lead the way, trying to stay as quiet as possible. The zombies at the stairwell continued to pound against the door, and she worried they would barge through after bashing long enough against the glass.

They walked down the hallway and there was a room to the side with a closed door. It looked interesting and Riley peered in, spotting a zombie on the ground that looked more shriveled up. Riley stopped in her tracks, eyes getting wide, “They can starve?” She gasped, quickly rushing over to crouch next to the zombie inside the room. She immediately reached into her labcoat and pulled out a scalpel, some tweezers and a vial. For a moment, she completely forgot she was in a crisis and was busy collecting samples for research, "Fascinating!"

It was a morbid thought, one that made Nick sick to his stomach, but he only hoped the fallen cop would distract the horde long enough to get away.

He listened to the concerns of the doctor, worried scowl on his face. He then led them away from the door, and the sounds of the zombies consuming the body just outside. Nick let Riley point the way towards the stairwell, and then he took point.

They crept down the hallway towards the far side of the building. Each step feeling like a mile. He turned around and the doctor was gone. He quickly backtracked and found her in leaning over one of the bodies. "What are you doing?!" he said in a hushed tone. She was talking to herself as she reached for instruments in her pockets. "No, we are leaving. Don't make me handcuff us together." he continued.

He couldn't believe it, here they were with possibly hundreds of creatures that wanted nothing else than to eat them and she was studying them. "Lets go." he said looking at her expectantly.

Nick turned around to find the other cop had abandoned them. They needed to all stick together but he was nowhere to be seen. He pushed thoughts of anger out of his mind. He had to get this doctor out, maybe she could shed some light on this.

They came to an intersection and Nick almost stepped out in the sight of over a dozen of the creatures. He pushed back, pressing the doctor backward. His heart pounded. That was too many to fight. It would be suicide to even attempt it. He looked around and found a cart of equipment. On it were several empty glass jars. He took one, hefting in his hands.

It was a long shot considering he knew next to nothing about these creatures, but they seemed to respond to sound earlier. He threw the glass jar around the corner, past the shambling group. It shattered and the creatures all pounced towards the sound. He peeked around the corner, seeing they seemed to be distracted, he pulled the doctor across the hallway

Riley gasped as the Ranger yelled at her. The nerve! She glared at him, quickly collecting the samples she needed, “I’m trying to find a cure to this thing, if you must know!” She snapped back angrily, pocketing the little vial and getting him. Handcuffs?! Riley had half a mind to just tell him to kriff off at this rate. Her ‘savior’ was turning out to be a pain in the ass.

She followed next to him and suddenly noticed the other cop was missing. She looked around with wide eyes, “Where is the other guy?” Riley asked in a panic. She kept looking around, fear creeping in. Her heart began to pound against her chest, “Where is he? He could kriff this up and lead them to us!” Riley whispered urgently, much more afraid than she had been before. Wandering and idiotic people were just as dangerous, if not more, than the beasts themselves.

Riley kept quiet as they moved on, and noticed the Ranger abruptly jerk back from when he peered over into a hallway. She didn’t protest when he pushed her back, and she could hear some of the creatures in the distance. As he looked over and pondered on throwing something, Riley nodded in assurance, silently conveying that they could be alerted by noise.

She could hear them clearing out, and she was hastily pulled along by the Ranger. Riley felt a chill up her spine as the continued, and she had a bad feeling as they crossed through the hallway. Up ahead, she could hear some very faint and distance noises.

Without warning, the cop from earlier turned around the corner and ran directly towards them. He was screaming and bloodied up, chunks missing from his arms. Behind him were easily ten or more of the creatures. They all shrieked and rushed behind him, ravenously hungry and jaws open as saliva dripped from them.

“HELP ME! OH GODS! MAMA HELP ME!” The delusional cop screamed at the top of his lungs as one of the zombies managed to swipe at his back, tearing through his shirt. He was running directly towards Nick, bloodied and about to be torn to shreds in front of them.

Riley clasped her hands over her mouth, too afraid to move. That was when she was hastily shoved to the side. She toppled into a room that was open in the side of the hallway, “IN HERE!” Riley screamed at him, but by then the horde was rapidly closing in.

He shoved the doctor to side as the panicked cop brought a dozen of the creatures down on top of them. "Get out of here!" he said to her as he pointed his blaster down the hallway. "I'll hold them off." he said.

The zombies caught up to the screaming cop, ripping into his back before grabbing on to him. He looked back to see the doctor in the doorway of a nearby room, yelling for him to come with her.

Nick had already left one person behind, he wasn't about to leave this man. He took a step forward, firing his blaster. He struck the creature on the cop's back. He pulled the man forward but the man gave out, falling to the ground in a whimpering mess. "Come on!" he said to the man as he shot again and again, dropping two of the closest. He tried pulling the man one more time but the group was on top of them. The first couple descended on the fallen man but the rest came for Nick. He stepped back as one leapt towards him, he fired by missed and the creature bit down hard. He instinctively reached up with his right forearm, blocking his body.

The teeth clamped down on Nick's forearm. He yelled as he pushed the zombie back with his free arm. The creature came away with a sizeable chunk of his arm. He fired, holding the blaster up and stuck the creature in the head.

Nick stumbled backward as he fired several more times, unsure if he actually hit anything. He fell back into the room, the door closing just as the zombies rushed forward. The door was heavy, they wouldn't break through that anytime soon. Nick fell the ground, yelling in pain again. He looked up at the doctor, eyes watering from the pain. "You can't let me become one of those things." he said holding out the blaster towards her.

Riley felt sick from what happened. The Ranger had shoved her out of the way and remained outside. He could have left her in the hallway or abandoned her like the other men had. She was in the room and rapidly looking for a way out, and she winced as she heard the shots and the screeching outside. Tears brimmed her eyes, and she tried to push the Ranger from her thoughts. He was likely dead by now and she was back to being alone in all this.

However, that was when he stumbled in and slammed the door shut. Riley screamed, initially thinking it was one of the creatures. Her eyes widened when she realized it was him. He pointed to his arm and she saw the distinct bite mark, and she felt even sicker. He held his blaster out towards her. Riley had been in this spot not too long ago and she shook her head. She kicked the blaster well out of reach.

“Not today,” Riley said, knowing what had to be done. She had some basic medical supplies on her, and she rushed over to open the cupboards in the room. She managed to find some extra gauze and some supplies, but it was far from what she needed.

She pulled out the very same knife she had intended to use to kill herself. Riley ran over and crouched down next to him, “This will kriffing hurt. A lot,” She hastily reached over and began to unbuckle the belt around his waist, “I’m going to need you to stay as calm as you can,” She spoke quickly as she pulled the belt out. Riley used some spare linen to tightly tie above his arm where he was bit. She shoved his belt into his mouth, “Bite into that and look away.”

Riley was going to have to do this the old fashioned way. She knew what she was doing, but it wouldn’t make it any less painful. The zombies kept thudding and slamming against the door, and her focus was on the knife. She gritted her teeth and began to cut. His screams wouldn’t deter her, and she would keep going, through the blood, through the sinewy flesh. When she got to the bone, she would try sawing through it, give up and use the blaster there to severely deteriorate it before cutting through.

The process was horrific, and it was all while the zombies slammed against the door. They could probably smell the fresh blood and flesh and it drove them even more insane. Riley had found some disinfectant in the cupboard, and she poured it on the stump before rapidly working to bandage it up. Her forehead and entire body was lined with sweat as she worked, talking to him the entire time and trying to reassure him. Her hands were completely drenched in his blood.

He felt drained, too weak to put up any sort of fight when the doctor slapped the blaster out of his hand. He slumped down, sliding against the heavy door. He could feel that faint pounding of the creatures.

He wasn't sure what the doctor was doing, she was digging around in some cabinet. Nick had read the reports if you got bit you were done. He didn't want to end up like those things. He looked over at the blaster laying a few feet away, but it might as well have been a mile away. Instead, he looked down at the knife on his belt, Could he do it? He wasn't sure. Before the thought process went further the doctor walked back over, explaining that what would come next would be painful.

He listened when she told him to bite down on the belt. What came next was far beyond the most horrific pain he thought possible. At first, he tried to remain quiet and still but eventually it was too much. He screamed a loud, agonized noise that filled the small room they had locked themselves in.

Nick wasn't quite sure how long the pain lasted, finally passing out when she used the blaster to get through the bone. Sometime after his eyes flickered open, unable to focus. "Trys, you gotta get yourself out of here." he said, confusing the doctor for his partner. "I'll hold them back. You need to get the people in this town to safety." he said before his head slumped back down.

“-Hello? Can you hear me? Kriff.”

Trys’s voice would fade in and out, and her face would slowly begin to take shape. Nick was in a medical bay, his stump properly bandaged and cleaned up. Trys stood by the bed, and Riley stood at the foot of it. While Riley stared at him with concern, Trys simply scowled at him as she realized he was coming to.

“Why the kriff didn’t you comm me?!” She hissed, “We’re partners. You should’ve said something the moment you saw trouble!” It was clear she was kicking herself for allowing this to happen. Trys hadn’t even known that the disease could be contained by removing the limb at once. He had been under quarantine for a few hours to see if anything spread. Even that was a hurdle as the locals didn’t want to bring him in for fear of spread. Trys had to pull a gun and threaten severe action before they allowed Nick to be brought in.

“You’re lucky this gal saved your ass,” She said, her expression softening as she glanced over at Riley. The doctor quickly looked down, her face slightly flushed. Trys had been gathering extra police forces for backup when she had received a call from Nick’s comms. She was surprised to hear a woman’s voice frantically telling her to make her way there. From there, Trys arrived with a transport and some support to get both of them out. They had barred up the windows and began an effort to quarantine the hospital after learning the zombies could starve.

“How’re you feeling?” Trys felt stupid asking that, but she was at a loss. Nick had just lost a hand, and it had been on her watch. She sighed, looking down, “I should’ve been there. I shouldn’t have left.”

Nick started to stir, slowly being pulled from unconsciousness. His initial thought was one of relief to be waking up for a bad dream. A moment later, that feeling would sour as memories and pain rushed back in towards his mind.

"Becuase you would have rushed in like a fool." he spoke quietly, his mouth dry. "Just like I would have." he finished with the slightest grin on his face. "Did you secure the building? That's what is most important." he said trying to sit up but immediately growing dizzy and falling back down to the bed.

It felt like his right hand was on fire, all of the nerves firing as if his skin was on fire. When he instinctively looked down, he saw what his mind had already tried to block out. He forced himself to look up, away from the badged remnants of his arm. The cut had been just below the elbow. "Thanks doc." he said looking over at reaching out and touching her hand with his left hand.

"I feel like shit." he said, forcing his feeling down. He didn't have time to face these right now, the threat of getting overwhelmed was too great. "Get them to let me out of here. I can help set up the perimeter," he said locking eyes with Trys. "Whatever amount of backup you have already called for is not enough.." he said trailing off.

She was clearly beating herself up over this. He understood completely. He had let down those officers in there. There had to be something he could have done differently that would have gotten them out alive. "You did the right thing, Trys." he said looking up at her.
