DESCRIPTION​

The Kranak-class frigate is a symbol of the indomitable will of the Mandalorian people never to surrender to the will of outsiders. Designed in secret by naval architects at MandalMotors and several other Mandalorian aligned companies, the Kranak - a Mandalorian word roughly translating to "Walled City" - was constructed in secret shipyards as a contingency against the day that the Mandalorian people - who were forbidden from building or operating capital ships larger than corvettes - would have to throw off the Sith yoke by force of arms.

The Kranak is well armed, equipped with 14 dual medium laser turrets, 10 dual heavy laser turrets and a trio of turbolaser turrets, allowing it to deal with most capital ships of similar size easily enough. Notably, however, the type does not possess weapons or targeting systems which are particularly effective against starfighters and other small, very maneuverable craft, making them dependent on support vessels such as the Nynir-class corvette to fend off attacks from such vessels. The Kranak can carry up to 8 starfighters of its own, however, plus a quartet of shuttles.

Kranak-class frigates, due to their vulnerability against starfighters, typically operate within fleets, or in tandem with support vessels such as the aforementioned Nynir. Nevertheless, their appearance on the battlefield has been a major and unpleasant surprise to Imperial forces sent to suppress Mandalorian uprisings.

Restricted. Kranak-class frigates are considered capital warships, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.
