DESCRIPTION​

This weapon belonged to Nykoria 'Kori' Tallis, a Zeltron Jedi Knight (and eventually Master). Having seen the dangers of the galaxy – and its bias against Force-sensitives – first-hand, Kori considered lightsaber proficiency an important skill for any Jedi. Another important skill was adaptability. That philosophy found reflection in Nykoria's weapon.

The split-saber considered of two lightsaber hilts, which could be wielded independently as ordinary lightsabers, or interlocked to form a saber staff. Each hilt contained a dual-phase dial, which allowed the standard 1-meter blade to gain an extra meter in length or be reduced to a half-a-meter shoto. The complexity added extra weight to the hilt, making it harder to wield for the unprepared.

Because Nykoria trained younglings and initiates in lightsaber combat, her sabers also incorporated training mode switches. When set to training mode, the lightsaber's containment field was intensified, making it harder for the plasma to deal any sort of damage. A saber in this mode could not sever limbs or pierce flesh. Skin contact was still painful, and could cause welts, bruises, and burns.

At the heart of the sabers were the twin kyber crystals that produced azure blades. The details of how Nykoria came across such crystals and constructed her saber are sketchy. Some of the older Jedi in the order might notice the similarity between Kori's own weapon and that of her Master. They would also tell that Padawan Tallis built the weapon after her and her Master's ill-fated trip to Tatooine and a particularly grim encounter with Tusken Raiders. Other details were lost to time, rumors, and Kori's own taciturnity on the matter...

Currently, the two hilts are separated. One is carried by Galania 'Lani' Tallis (Kori's sister).
The other is with Dasi Vemm (a Togruta Jedi who was with Kori during her capture).​

LEGALITY​

Legal wherever lightsabers are legal. A lightsaber is usually only as dangerous as a vibroblade, and less dangerous than blasters. Yet it is also a rare and expensive item. It may draw unwanted attention on some worlds or from some individuals.

INTENT​

To describe the lightsaber used by @Nykoria Tallis throughout her Jedi career. Also, to provide a reference for those who might find themselves in possession of that lightsaber.
