“Captain?”

“Yes, Waltz?”

“We got company, Cap.”

“Company as in a corporation looking to hire us or..?”

“Company as in two fighters on our tail annnnnd they’re opening fire on us.”

Tranquility rocked one way and the other just then, Waltz no doubt doing his best to evade the lasers and his attempts paying off.

“Ya think!?”
Mal exclaimed, clutching a corridor’s wall. Why was it that every time he had somebody like the Sith chasing him they always did so with so much aggression? Couldn’t they be a bit more passive-aggressive-like? For once? Just once in my less-than-passive-aggressive life?

Moments later and the Captain was in the cockpit. “What do we got?”

“...Two Sith fighters chasing and shooting at us...sir…” Chloe answered with crossed brows whose half-circles were like half of the O in “Obviously”.

“Obviously. I mean what do we got that we can use to not get shot and to stop getting chased?”

“Prepare for the zoom-boom!” Waltz held up a finger.

“Has he said that before?”
Mal beckoned Chloe.

“No and he’ll never say it again.”

“I’m gonna hold you to that.”

Waltz pressed his finger anyway.

First the zoom then the boom.

The explosive charge escaped the ship, collided with an asteroid and blew it apart. Its pieces hit other asteroids and so on and so forth. By that time, Tranquility was flying ahead of the blast. The fighters behind her? Hmm...

The fighters had gained well on the freighter and were opening up on it. Green laser blasts burst around her as she attempted to flee from the Sith Eternality might. But it appeared that the vagabonds had more then one trick up their sleeve. As they darted away they released an explosive trap which burst behind them, detonating asteroids all around. This would be devestating to any vessel, and was no less so for the unsuspecting fighters.

They attempted to dodge and move away, but could not. Their shields were drastically compromised, one of them having a panel on the side ripped almost clean off with the damage. The pilots were rattled and jostled, and one may have been able to continue pursuit. It's wing man was utterly out of commission, in a fighter that would take weeks to repair.

The second fighter attempted to pull forward and around the shrapnel of the rocks before it... but it was likely to late. The opportunity for the freighter to escape was just too good for them to pass up.

On the bridge of the Sakor, Venthis Habrak observed this militant failure, and yet was no concerned. They may be giving him the slip... but he would find them again. It would not be worth the missiles or damage to the vessel to pursue.

When Habrak was alerted to the damage of the fighters he turned.

"Call off pursuit." He directed. "They know we're here. And they'll tell others. That's all we need."

He accepted his quarry had escaped this round... other's would not... and they could all be weighed and measured for the same treason.

Reports came back to the cockpit of Tranquility regarding the fate of her pursuers. “One down for the count,” Waltz confirmed. “One still tailing us though. Guess I’ll just go a little faster?”

“Faster would be better.” Mal concurred.

Faster was enough. The lone fighter behind them had been delayed if not destroyed and that was enough for Tranquility to burst full speed ahead. Whatever ultimately became of both ships, well, they were now no longer being picked up which meant that they were no longer giving chase. That was enough.

As things calmed down, Mal whistled into the wind—or lack thereof. “Good job, ladies and gentlemen! We are now free.”

“Weren’t we always free?” Waltz queried.

“Well we’re definitely not scott free, guys.” Chloe quipped. “This Lieutenant Habrak now has Tranquility on his radar. Sith just lost two trophies today. Won’t be happy about that.”

“Well…” Mal began as he gazed out toward the stars. “...You ain’t wrong but we still got away and got away with it. Kettle’s in our possession and Vako’s out there somewhere waiting for us even if he doesn’t know it. Plus, we’re still flying.”

“Sometimes I wonder if that’s enough.” Chloe said with just the faintest hint of doubt in her voice.

“It might not be much...but it’s enough.”
