Keshir Deathsworn

The Keshir Deathsworn is a religious cult and that is based out in Wild Space. The Keshir Deathsworn is a religion that focuses very heavily on Death as a focus of their worship. The Deathsworn see Death as the God of the Dead and final arbiter of souls. Death then tasks his worshipers to spread his teachings, this teachings being: That the cycle of life, death, and decay is the only certainty in the universe, that that death is not being something to be afraid of yet nothing to be sought. Another mandate that Death tasks upon his followers is to make sure the dead are respected and not defiled.

The Deathsworn are a small cult with few tangible assets save for their main temple in wild space. The Deathsworn spread their faith to others, although are not too pushy as they accept that the charge of a Deathsworn is not for the faint of heart. The Keshir reconginize that few are truly capable and willing to carry out Death's great task. After a ritual, the aspiring member makes a solemn vow to Death they will take their charge as a Deathsworn, is now a Deathsworn neophyte. Once a neophyte proves their zeal, are now called Devotees.

The followers of Death usually have pessimistic and bleak outlooks on the galaxy at large, they know the final fate in all sentient beings and there is no avoiding it. Although they do they take a good amount of joy in taking up the burden of showing others about what lies after death, comforting the dying, and honoring the dead.

The religion itself was said to have been founded circa 200 years ago when an Miraluka by the name of Uyuarth saw abstract visions of the future, of war and people dying. And then she heard a voice that claimed to be Death and ordained her to spread his word and his teachings to others. Although the visions were skeptical, the visions did come to pass, proving the visions be true, and Uyuarth was 'shown the light' of Death. She would spread her faith to others, many shunned and mocked her, but there were a few interested. And after telling them of another vision that happened, they too pledged themselves to Death. After securing a loyal band of followers another vision led to planet Agaris in wild space, where the few followers she would gathered would find an abanonded place known as the Keshiri Temple and she would lead them there. From there they would grow from there.

_____Beliefs & Culture

The Cycle of Death is perhaps the most important tenant of the religion. The Deathsworn know that life and death are intertwined. Without life, there can be no death. Without death, there would be no room for new life in the end. Even with their fascination being death, they do not seek to perpetuate it themselves preferring to let nature do it. The Deathsworn see wanton murdering and mass slaughters as disrupting the balance and so the Deathsworn would try to prevent that if possible. The Deathsworn are charged with soothing the dying's fears and worries as well as their pain, guiding them before they enter Death's door. After they enter Death's door, they Deathsworn believe they will be judged by God of the Dead himself based on their deeds and actions in life. Should Death be found wanting of them, they will languish alone in Eternal Darkness. Should Death judge them worthy, they will find paradise and will not feel pain or suffering as they did in life. Death's faithful will be blessed with a special place at his side.

Veneration of the Dead is the other important tenant the Deathsworn hold. In addition to their temple, the Deathsworn consider burial sites and other monuments to the dead to be hallowed and sacred ground. Sullying and defiling these places greatly offends the Deathsworn and fervent members would defend these places. Desecrating the remains of the dead themselves is also a grave offense. The Deathsworn see AMS outbreak's creation of the zombies, as well as various dark side magicks ability to reanimate the dead into mindless zombies, as offences against Death who wants the dead to rest.

Death has a plan for all as they believe, all death serves a purpose even if it may not be apparent to even the Deathsworn, however they accept it, even if it may be their own.

The Keshir Deathsworn tend to wear dark clothing, they get odd-looks and are shunned mostly, sometimes mistaken for Sith based soley on their outward appearances. The Deathsworn operate mostly in Wild Space and the fringes of the Outer Rim. A lot of the Deathsworn are trained fighters, needing to be able to handle themselves in a harsh and unforgiving galaxy. They do not have access to and shun the use of Lightsabers. They tend to use more traditional non-powered weapons such as swords, spears, although that depends on preference. The Deathsworn shun advanced technology, thinking machines, droids, cybernetics and perfer making do with less.

Although a Jedi might be unnerved by the Deathsworn's teachings, the Deathsworn respect the Jedi as their beliefs are somewhat similar, they acknowledge that death is natural and allows people to pass on ("Death, yet the Force") although they differ on what fate holds after death. The Jedi believe that the dead become one with the Force, the souls go to the Netherworld of the Force, but the Deathsworn believe that the God of the Dead itself judges where the dead go based on deeds they did during their life.

Members of the Deathsworn hate and revile the Sith, as they are a evil religion that seeks destruction and revels in the slaughter and killing of others for their own twisted motives, disrupting the balance of life and death in addition to the corruption they bring. A key tenant of the Sith is they seek to live as long as possible, even using unnatural ways to do so, such as historical Sith Lord Darth Sidious cheating death by transferring his essence into clones. Either way this greatly offends the Deathsworn.

_____Assets

The Keshir Deathsworn do not have much in the way of assets, mainly what their individual members would have on their person or would donate. There are a few hideouts here and there in the Outer Rim and Wild Space, but their main location would be the Keshir Temple on the planet Agaris which is hallowed ground. It serves as their headquarters and main place of worship.

_____The Force

The cult does have quite a few force-users in it's ranks, they believe they are blessed by Death to hold power over the Force, although they call it 'the Power of the Void' instead of the Force. The 'Voidtouched' Deathsworn hold the Light Side of the Force. Although they embrace pessimism and eventual death and decay for all, they still also have calm and harmony as well as compassion and selflessness and do not embrace any of the emotions or feelings that the Dark Side feeds off of. A few Force users do sometimes receive visons or glimpses of the future, they claim these sights of the future are from Death.

_____Intent

Pet project of mine. Hoping to use this to add a new religion into our site canon and to use this as a religion for an upcoming character of mine (and others should they wish). This write-up is inspired from a number of sources (D&D, Stellaris .etc) I think this is an interesting take on the Light-side and something different from another dark-side aligned cult. (Instead a spooky yet -at it's core - benevolent cult)
