DESCRIPTION

While technically Kara Vaalki's first lightsaber, she has rebuilt and modified the design of this weapon for over 30 years, and few of the original components remain. Unlike many Jedi, Kara assembled her lightsaber by hand rather than using the Force, machining each individual component to suit her specific needs.

The end result is a ostentatious, yet restrained design - the two piece emitter shroud invokes architectural motifs popular within the old Jedi Order Temple on Coruscant. The emitter 'windows' are in fact a functional addition, as these side vents can exhaust excess lightsaber energy if the blade is poorly tuned or in need of adjustment - an understandable side effect of a weapon that is constantly being adjusted and re-tuned.

The switch section also speaks to this: the main switch is covered by a plastic safety cover to prevent accidental activation or de-activation, but on the reverse side is a small adjustment dial that allows fine-tuning of the focusing lens, allowing for minute adjustments while on the go.

This constant adjustment is due in part to the kyber crystal at the heart of the lightsaber - chipped and flawed, the crystal creates an unstable stream of energy in a lightsaber, and the fluctuations can warp the delicate tuning lens over time. The flawed nature of the crystal also results in a less vibrant lightsaber blade, the green beam of energy instead more muted and washed out than usual.

The handle of the weapon is a delicately carved single piece of gold-veined resin, eight-sided and carefully bevelled to avoid sharp edges. The dense resin makes the blade notably heavier even when de-activated, and can feel awkward or clumsy in the hands of other Jedi.

The pommel of the weapon conceals a power connection port, where the lightsaber is able to be plugged into a terminal or datapad, which allows the user to interface with the systems that govern the control of energy flow and provide a number of diagnostic tools. The port was also originally designed to connect to a second, compatible lightsaber, however this was never completed. An attachment on the pommel allows the lightsaber to be hung from a hoop attachment on a belt, as is typical of many Jedi lightsaber designs.

Close to the belt attachment, a small red-ripped plug can also be seen - the plug is in fact a crucial fuse that can be removed, preventing the activation of the lightsaber entirely, as a failsafe.

LEGALITY

As legal as a lightsaber can be.

INTENT

Giving a more detailed explanation of the functions, design and quirks of Kara's lightsaber. There's nothing major here (hence generic tech), its just fluff.
