DESCRIPTION
The Kaloth pattern frigate is a class of warship manufactured by the Kaloth corporation. It is primarily marketed toward small system navies under desh-pot dictators looking for a bulky, impressive-looking capital ship to intimidate their neighbors and impress their subjects/constituents. For their size and armament, they are relatively cheap to buy, although this comes at its own price.

The Kaloth pattern frigate is a simple design, long and bulky, with light and heavy turbolasers on the dorsal and ventral hull, and banks of swivel-mount medium laser cannons along port and starboard. The ship's most unusual armament is the arrangement of its tractor beams; these are mounted in twin forward mandibles, which can be used to physically grapple a ship that is hauled in close, positioning it for boarding. This feature has made the ship popular for customs enforcement in systems where it is not a full-on flagship, and has also endeared it to pirates, who have stolen and now operate many of these craft over the years.

Notably, Kaloth pattern frigates are built to a cost, and it shows. The type boasts relatively shoddy fit and finish, with little automation, requiring a large crew and a great deal of regular maintenance. The ship's deflector screens are notably sub-standard for its size, and though its duranium armor is stout, it usually ends up being pushed beyond endurance during combat against any comparably armed opponent.

Kaloth pattern frigates are rarely seen in the Galactic interior, or in any especially civilized system. They are a common enough fixture of backrocket system navies, small-time criminal gangs with delusions of syndicate status and pirate bands, however.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Kaloth pattern frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Kaloth pattern frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size; alternatively, it could be owned jointly by at least 3 characters who work together regularly.
