"I just don't understand..." Izel said as she followed her master into the seedy Nar Shaddaa cantina. "How could a Toydarian of all things overpower you?" Master Reev was red in the face, either enraged or flustered beyond comparison, the Padawan couldn't quite tell. "I told you-" He started to snap back at the young Vratix angrily, but caught himself and tried to speak more calmly. "I told you. He didn't 'overpower' me. Toydarians are... crafty..." He averted his eyes and rubbed the back of his neck.

"I see..." Izel replied, still a bit confused. "Well... Don't worry Master, I'll help you get your lightsaber back. I have a few choice words for that rotten thief..." Reev immediately interposed himself between Izel and the private section of the cantina where they were walking to. "No!" He exclaimed. "No, no... thank you Izel that's unnecessary. Uh, I got myself into this mess. I can get myself-"

"There he is!" A hulking Cathar laughed as he emerged from the back room and clapped the Jedi Knight on the shoulder. "The loser's come back for more eh? Did you remember to bring your sabacc handbook this time?" Reev smiled and laughed uncomfortably along with the Cathar before looking back to Izel. "I'll be just an hour or so I swear," He insisted. "Just relax, enjoy yourself. You take your studies too seriously kid." He turned and started to follow the Cathar into the back room.

"But..." Izel started nervously. "That's an order!" Reev called back to her. "Consider this your training for the day! The famous Jedi 'killing time' technique! Master it!" With her master gone from view the Padawan sighed and turned around, suddenly lost in the crowd of strange patrons. She had never seen so many different types of aliens in one spot. For once the Vratix didn't stand out. Well, not too much anyway. Slowly she made her way across the brightly lit room, cringing slightly from the loud music, antennae twitching as she felt the emotions of all those in the room. So much going on! She didn't understand how these people could take it. Well, she had to find something to do with her time. She had no intention of letting her master down, even if she was beginning to doubt the legitimacy of his story about being robbed...

A guy crashed into the floor next to the bar counter, quickly followed by a loud and cackling laugh. "Better choose your fights better next time, big guy!" Shai quipped with a grin before downing her drink, almost falling off her chair as she leaned back to do so. With some downtime to kill and extra cash to spend, the best thing to do was naturally to go out and relax to get ready for the next flight. After all, these days getting past Sector Rangers and other uptight authorities were quite stressful.

As she adjusted and ordered a refill, she glanced around the bar. Immediately her attention was caught by a literal bug standing lost in the bar. It didn't have much facial expressions, but the body language spoke loud and clear. Naturally her curiosity got the better of her and she wandered over as soon as her drink was placed in front of her.

"Hey there! Careful around here. Last time I checked, bugs didn't do good with smoke." she joked with a chuckle as she approached the thing. She took a sip and looked it over. "You look a little lost...uh...my dude! What's up?" she felt bad for having to stammer like that. But she did not, in all honesty, have a clue what the thing was. "Um...can you speak Basic?" she asked, leaning in slightly to get a better look at its face. "Can you speak at all?" was probably a better question, but not by a long shot a good one...

Izel jumped upon hearing a boisterous introduction, turning to watch as a short, furry alien approached her. As the patron looked her over the Padawan did the same, needing to lean over slightly to address her properly. She was nearly a foot taller than the diminutive alien. She tilted her head confusedly at the woman's joke, her antennae twitching curiously.

"Um, insect is the term you're looking for." She explained awkwardly, reflexively reaching out to touch one of the alien's ears before remembering she wasn't supposed to do that and pulling back. "Bugs are part of a different suborder. That's alright though it's a common mistake." She straightened up, giving the woman some more space. "And yes, I speak Basic... uh, clearly.... My name is Izel." She looked over the alien a bit more, the species finally clicking into place and the Vratix growing more excited.

"You're a Shistavanen right? That's fascinating! I haven't met one of your kind before." It wasn't exactly easy to read the insectoid's emotions outside of her tone of voice, seeing as she didn't use any kind of facial expressions that were noticeable to other creatures. At the very least she sounded friendly. "I wouldn't say I'm lost. Just looking for something to do really..." Just then the man Shai had knocked to the ground came into sight, angrily stalking towards the two of them flanked by two equally angry looking men. "Are they friends of yours?" The Padawan asked obliviously.

It was a little odd that the bug kept reaching out and trying to touch her, though Shai didn't exactly pull away. It was safe to say that she was pretty damn curious as well. She finally spoke up. Thankfully she spoke normally and not some weird clicking or something like she heard some species do. "Sorry, school wasn't exactly a thing for me as a kid." she admitted with a chuckle. She introduced herself and Shai gave her...hand? Whatever it was, Shai gave it an enthusiastic shake. "Nice to meet you, Izel! I'm Shai." she introduced herself as well.

She just started her conversation with the odd alien, when Izel noticed the guy from earlier as well as some friends. She glanced behind her and looked back at Izel. "Not exactly...um...let's rather not hang around and wait for them." she said rather nervously as she wrapped an arm around her body and led her out of the cantina. "Guy was starting to get frisky and doesn't like looking bad. Just keep walking." she explained to Izel as she led her out. A glance back confirmed they were still onto her. "By the way, your skin feels weird...well I guess it's not skin, is it scales or something?" her mind went off in its own direction all over again.

Outside she turned and walked to an alley, speeding up into a speed walk while still keeping a hold on Izel. "Come on, let's try to lose them. I don't wanna fight them if I can avoid it." she explained softly. It was probably wrong of her to rope her in with her issues, but she'd rather have a weird, creepy-looking bug for backup than be alone. Especially on this planet. She didn't want to use her gun if she could avoid it.

Izel returned Shai's handshake with matching enthusiasm, letting out a low satisfied chitter. She hadn't expected to meet someone so friendly on Nar Shaddaa. Her master had warned her the moon was full of criminals and other sordid types. She was surprised though when the Shistavanen suddenly wrapped an arm around her and started leading her out of the cantina. "But..." She started meekly in protest, looking back towards the private section of the cantina where Master Reev had disappeared. He said he wouldn't be too long, and probably wouldn't approve of her running off. In the end the Padawan just insisted to herself she wouldn't wander too far.

"Um, it's chitin..." She answered Shai as the woman led her outside. She was saying something about not fighting people but Izel was still confused as to what she was talking about. Their route led them around into the alley behind the cantina. Somehow this area looked even seedier than the cantina itself. "You're... not trying to rob me are you?" Izel asked calmly, only now realizing she had allowed herself to be led into a spot where there would be no one to witness a crime. "I don't mean to make any assumptions, you seem nice enough. I just feel like I ought to warn you I don't have much on me. Also trying to mug me would go very poorly for you." She spoke surprisingly casually given the subject matter she was broaching. "Oh, that's not to say I think you can't handle yourself. I don't know, you might be a good fighter. But generally I haven't had much trouble with non Force sensitives..."

Meanwhile outside the alley Shai would be able to hear shouting as one of the men from the cantina ran past. They clearly weren't about to let their grudge go, although for the time being they seemed to have shaken them.

Shai blinked in surprise at the question. "Rob you? Hell no, I just don't wanna get beaten to a pulp." she assured her as they walked. Izel went on to explain why it might be a bad idea, though one comment caught Shai's attention. "Non force sensitives"? Was this girl a Jedi? "Wait, hold up? Are you a Jedi or something? If you are, that'll be dope, 'cause..." the shouting behind them drew her attention as she looked behind them.

"Crap, let's move. In there." she said as she headed for a dark alleyway. One look behind her indicated that the guys might have seen them. She finally let go of Izel and drew her blaster. "Let's hide. See if they noticed or not. If they did..." a menacing grin spread across her face as she looked up at the creature, looking rather maniacal along with her glowing red eyes. "...we'll just put on a show they'll never forget." she backed up and hid in the shadows, gesturing for Izel to do the same. "Do some funky sounds or something if you can, just look scary!" she whispered to her before going silent.

Shai kept deathly quiet, even her breathing was kept to a minimum. Her pistol was hidden behind her back as she kept herself small in the dark alleyway. The sounds of shouting and running grew closer and closer until eventually the three men came running up to the alley. They stopped and looked around until they finally decided on checking out the alley. They marched into it and started looking around. Shai stood like a statue until they passed her without noticing.

A hiss-and-click sounded off and the twin barrels of her pistol were brought up to the back of the last man's head. "That is an RSKF-44 blaster pointed at your dome." she said with a light growl, her maniacal red eyes and sickening grin giving her a rather uncomfortable appearance. She hoped that Izel had some tricks up her sleeve to help out. "Now why oh why do you boys want our tail so bad?" she asked with a cold chuckle. "You clearly don't know who you're messin' with." she pulled a grenade from her belt, sliding the activator back to bring up the blinking lights and rather unnerving ticking noise.

"Oh, well that's good." Izel replied cheerily to Shai's assurances. "Why yes I am," She answered the Shistavanen's question about being a Jedi. "Actually-" Her explanation was cut off as Shai implored her to hide. The Padawan followed her lead, starting to understand the gravity of the situation as her companion pulled out a blaster. Well, Nar Shaddaa was supposed to be dangerous. She followed behind Shai, sinking into the shadows of the alley and disappearing from view outside. As Shai prepared to ambush their pursuers Izel could only tilt her head in confusion. "Funky sounds?" She asked, perplexed.

When Shai pressed her blaster to the one man's head he slowly raised his hands in the air, indicating he didn't want a fight. "Easy..." He said with a slightly unnerved voice. It was clear the human was trying to keep his cool, but wasn't doing a very good job. His words tipped off his two friends to turn around. The bloody-nosed Zeltron Shai had punched earlier and a Rattataki who immediately put his hand on his own holster.

Izel did her best to help with Shai's intimidation tactics, walking out of the shadows to stand behind her, rising up to her full height and producing a sort of hissing clicking. The Zeltron took a step back as he glanced up at her but held his ground. The Rattataki looked less impressed.

"You think you can hit me and just walk away mutt?" The Zeltron demanded angrily as the Shistavanen taunted them. "Do you have any idea who I am?" He was shut up immediately when Shai pulled out the grenade, eyes bugging out in fear. Still the Rattataki, clearly a more experienced fighter, only narrowed his eyes. "We're with Crimson Dawn." The pale near-human explained threateningly. "You do know who the Crimson Dawn are don't you?" He unclipped his holster, ready to draw in an instant.

"Maybe don't threaten the girl that's got a blaster to my head guys?" The human offered nervously. "Crimson Dawn or not," Izel spoke up calmly, "Your reputation wont save you from a thermal detonator. I suggest you walk away before things get unpleasant." She was the only one in the alley not armed with a blaster, but the Padawan was already playing out attack scenarios in her head if things escalated. She could quite easily close the distance if a fight broke out. Not that she wanted one, but it seemed up to the gangsters whether one would happen or not. And they didn't look inclined to leave. The Zeltron was scared but furious and just as likely to lash out as turn tail and run. The Rattataki was completely calm, and looked eager for a fight. The human was clearly less antagonistic, but Izel knew it would be unwise to underestimate him if they really were who they said they were. Already he was starting to subtly move his feet like he was about to dive out of the way of Shai's blaster...

They got a good drop on the guys, but they weren't nearly as intimidated as Shai would have hoped. Izel tried to add to it and -while a little unsettling- her presence really didn't add that much. They didn't seem to be all that bothered by the grenade either, though they seemed to realize that things were getting a little more serious.

Izel bluffed, calling it a thermal detonator but they were determined to stick around. Shai's menacing grin merely grew as she pressed the barrel of her gun tighter against the back of his head. "You think I give a damn about Crimson Dawn? You're talking to the girl that's been clearing out their hulls between Coruscant and Hutt space." she spoke with something of a growl. Of course that was a lie. She wasn't the one doing all that, that was merely other pirates. But they didn't need to know that.

Regardless, her intimidation didn't seem to work on them. The Zeltron was looking more and more twitchy. Shai, however, made a big mistake. She glanced off at the Zeltron for just a split second...long enough for the man to spin around and slam the back of his fist across her face. She spun and slammed into the ground and he followed, pinning her down with a hand around her throat while his other hand wrestled to get the blaster out of her hand. The other two seemed to want to take down Izel, with one going for his blaster and the other moving to throw a punch at her.

Shai was fighting to keep a grip on her pistol. But a bigger problem was getting out of the situation. she could easily hurt him really bad and shoot him...but she didn't want to kill him. Only issue was thinking of a non-lethal means of getting free while she was busy getting choked.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, the gangsters chose to fight rather than flee. Things escalated very quickly the moment the human turned to attack Shai. As the two of them fell to the ground the Rattataki drew his blaster, firing off a shot aimed directly for Izel's head. The Padawan instinctively ignited her lightsaber pike, bringing the glowing green blade up to deflect the bolt back at her attacker. The shot grazed the pale near-human's shoulder, and he spun to the ground with a grunt.

But this gave the Zeltron time to get close. He threw a punch, striking the Vratix hard across the face. As she reeled back his hands latched onto her weapon and tried to wrest it from her hands. "You're a Jedi?" He shouted, covering up the fear in his voice with feigned bravado. "Oh you're gonna make me rich bug!"

"You're getting ahead of yourself." Izel replied coldly. Her tone had changed quite suddenly, the Zeltron's attack managing to grate on her nerves. As the two of them grappled over the weapon she raised her stronger pair of legs and kicked him in the gut, hard. The Zeltron was thrown backwards, directly into his human companion, sending the two tumbling down the alley. Instead of pressing her advantage Izel immediately went to offer a hand up to Shai. "We should go..." She suggested to the Shistavanen urgently. Meanwhile the Rattataki had recovered, and was now taking aim at the Padawan again. With her weapon down and her attention focused on Shai, Izel wasn't prepared to defend herself from a second round of fire.

The Zeltron suddenly crashed into the man, knocking him off Shai. She coughed and scooted back to make room as she regained her breath. Her muzzle and cheek was stained with blood, making for a rather grim look. When she looked up, Izel stood over her and suggested getting out of there. But her attention was drawn to the pale man standing up behind her.

A deafening boom echoed in the alley. The twin barrels of her gun left a trail of smoke. Directly ahead of her was the Rattataki with a gaping hole in his chest. He collapsed onto the floor with a loud thud. "Good idea!" she called out, spitting blood out of her mouth as she scrammed onto her feet. She picked up her grenade and primed it properly, throwing it behind her to throw off the remaining two. The explosion sent dust and debris from the walls at them, making sure they'd be occupied for a while.

Shai used that moment to get her bearings and lead Izel away. "My ship is this way!" she said as she ran, holstering her pistol to get better speed. They emerged by a series of landing pads, but Shai didn't slow down. She kept running until they reached her ship. "Buggy, open up!" she shouted into her commlink and soon enough her ship's cargo bay opened up. As soon as they were in it closed up, allowing Shai to lean and slide down against the wall. "Karking skugs!" she suddenly blurted out, kicking a crate next to her.

A scowl was on her face as she touched her muzzle. "They're lucky they didn't knock a tooth out." she commented, trying to feel where it was bleeding. She winced when she found the spot and instead opted to wipe the blood off. "Hey, Izel." she said as she looked up at her. "That...was kaking awesome!" she squealed before suddenly wincing again. "I mean...you're a real Jedi! That's epic! Never thought I'd meet a Jedi in my life!" she spoke as she stood up, walking over to the insect to throw an arm around her. "Thanks, by the way! For what you did. I would have been in a bit of trouble if it weren't for you!"

Izel froze up as she heard the blaster go off, turning to watch mortified as the Rattataki collapsed. Dead. She'd never seen a sentient killed in front of her before. She didn't get much of a chance to think about it though before Shai tossed the grenade towards the other two men and dragged her away from the alley. It seemed their assailants managed to escape the blast as well, for they heard the coughing voice of the Zeltron behind them. "You karking schuttas are dead you hear me?" He threatened between wheezes. "You're dead!"

Thankfully it seemed the blast gave them enough of a head start to lose their pursuers. It also allowed Izel to think a bit more on what had happened as she ran after Shai. "You... You shot that man..." She muttered mostly to herself as she followed the Shistavanen. It wasn't accusatory, more a statement of disbelief. She realized her companion had done it to save her, but still hated feeling she was somehow indirectly responsible for a person's death. Even if it was in self defense.

She followed Shai into the ship, standing by the opposite wall and trying to catch her breath as the Shistavanen slid to the ground. Shai's electric personality was able to lighten the Padawan's mood somewhat, drawing a winded chuckle from the young Vratix. "It is quite unlikely, statistically speaking..." She muttered in response to the Shistavanen's excitement at having met a Jedi. When Shai stood up and wrapped an arm around her she didn't pull away, although she did still seem a bit shaken. "Oh, it's no trouble. I suppose we helped each other back there didn't we?" She only hoped their troubles were over, and that the Zeltron and his human friend wouldn't keep hounding them. Somehow she doubted it though.

"Oh definitely! Though I wish I didn't have to shoot the guy. I hate killing people, though I guess in cases like that it's fine, right?" she explained. She let go of Izel and touched her muzzle again. "Sorry, I'm just gonna do something about this." she explained as she started to walk away. "Feel free to make yourself at home!" she called out from within her ship.

She grabbed a medpack and locked the bathroom door, trying to fix up the bust in her lip. It only served to annoy her all over again as she cursed, winced and growled against the pain.

In the meantime, Shai's droid came rolling into the cargo hold, looking up at the Vatrix. //You are a curious lifeform.// it beeped away. //This unit's mistress is repairing damage in the refresher. You are big.// it commented before turning around. //Please follow this unit to the mess room.// it said before rolling off down the hall.

A while later Shai emerged with a bandaid stuck on the side of her muzzle. "Yeah those guys got off lucky." she commented as she walked into the mess room. She threw her arms up and gave a smile at Izel. "By the way, welcome! She's not much but she's mine." she said, nodding at the ship's roof. "Can I get you anything? Caf? Something stronger?" she offered, walking over to the kitchen area. "Do you...uhh...even drink stuff?" she asked with a nervous chuckle.

"Right..." Izel answered Shai with a simple nod, falling silent again after being reminded of the Rattatki. She tried not to let that image get stuck in her mind. Emotion, Yet Peace. She watched the Shistavanen wander off before turning her attention to the little astromech droid as it rolled up to her and begin beeping. It was a little difficult for the Padawan to understand it, Droidspeak wasn't something she had a great deal of experience with, but she got the gist of what it was saying.

"Relatively speaking." She responded to it's observation in a slightly amused tone. She followed the droid to the mess room, sitting down but not looking for anything to eat or drink. Even though Shai had told her to make herself at home, she didn't want to impose. When her host returned however and made an offer she didn't turn it down.

"I'm not a droid," She responded lightheartedly to Shai's question. "I'd like a glass of water, thank you." Once she was handed her drink she'd raise it to her mouth and take a long gulp, still a little tired from all the running, then turn to speak to her companion. "I don't think this is what my Master had in mind when he asked me to kill time, but then the Force works in mysterious ways. Does this sort of thing happen to you often?" She asked. Even after joining the Jedi Izel hadn't had very many opportunities to visit highly populated systems. If gunfights with crazed thugs was a common occurrence she wasn't sure she'd like to.

Shai chuckled at her comment. "I'm just making sure." she admitted, turning to pour her a glass of cold water. She placed it in front of Izel. She left Izel to drink as she fixed a cup of caf for herself. She turned her head slightly to listen as Izel spoke, smiling at the question. "Sort of. Usually people leave me alone if I knock them down or threaten them. But every now and then you get skugs like that who can't take a hint." she explained as she walked over to sit on the couch with her.

She laid back, kicking her feet up onto the table. She glanced up at Izel with a curious expression. "Wait, hold up. Your master? Where is your master that he'd just leave you alone in a bar? I thought you guys stick together or something?" she remarked, now very curious as to why the kark Izel was left alone in a scummy bar. "On top of that...what the hell were you two doing in the bar in the first place?" she asked on a much more serious tone, sitting upright and turning slightly to face her properly.

"I see." Izel said as Shai answered her question. The Padawan was much more reserved in body language than the Shistavanen was, sitting upright and proper, seemingly unable to relax.

"Technically I wasn't alone," She answered Shai casually, not seeing a problem in her Master's behavior. "He was in the back room trying to get his lightsaber back. It was stolen from him." She paused to take another gulp of water. "Master Reev is very... Odd, by Jedi standards. He likes to involve himself more in the day to day activities of the planets he visits, rather than just doing humanitarian work. He says it helps him 'gain perspective' or something like that."

She didn't mention that his 'gaining perspective' regularly got them into all sorts of trouble. She didn't want to speak negatively of her Master behind his back. Of course now that she thought about it he was very similar to Shai. Perhaps not quite as abrasive. He tended to unintentionally blunder into situations rather than punching and threatening people.

"I suppose he didn't want to involve me in any danger." The Vratix explained. "So instead he told me to just relax and enjoy myself. Apparently I take being a Jedi too seriously." The idea seemed ridiculous to her. Becoming a master took years of practice and dedication so it seemed to her counterproductive to waste any of that time on frivolous behavior. But then Reev was a Knight and she only a Padawan. Surely he knew more about that then her. She looked back to Shai. "You strike me as someone who knows how to do that. Any advice?"
