It wasn't her case, however, the Ranger's and local detectives assigned were having a tough time finding a break to give them any lead to the perpetrator. This was not any area that Thalia was familiar with, her expertise lied in black market weapons, this case involved murders. It probably would not have been too much of a bother, murders happened regularly, but their suspect was a child murderer and had racked up several bodies over the last few months. Who ever it was, did not have a preference of species or gender, it seemed to be random, but then again, it was not as random as they wanted to believe it to be. However, every time the detectives had thought they were narrowing in on a suspect, things changed.

The latest victim, a twi'lek youngling, had gone missing a few days earlier. His parents were more wealthy than previous victims, but regardless of the amount of credits that were poured into finding their son's whereabouts it did not save him. Most of the child's body was found in an abandoned building; pieces of his body were set ritualistically around the room, and some were not all found. It was believed they were consumed as indicated by the organic matter left behind on a plate with a fork.

Forensics had finished quickly and the front of the building was already becoming a memorial and Thalia was certain she saw something on the holo about the place being torn down to make a memorial garden for the victim and those who were murdered before him. It was noble, but Thalia did not care much for what the families did; she wanted answers as much as the detectives assigned to this case. She heard they consulted a Jedi, but they did not seem to be bothered and were wary in delving their attention to a matter that seemed trivial compared to whatever else there was to focus on in the galaxy. She had to decided she would as Byron about it later, but they seemed like they couldn't even be bothered to help their padawan learners from what she could tell.

She watched as another family arrived, gawked at the building and laid down some flowers and a toy. She wondered if anyone who had visited the site was the person they were looking for; she heard some killers enjoyed returning to the site. But, she wanted to help in some way, there was a pain and suffering she could feel even within her Ranger brethren in not being able to close case. Glancing down at her finger tips, she rubbed them together, knowing her own gift in psychometry. There were warnings to be careful on how she used the ability, but she believed if she were too careful or too cautious, her abilities could go to waste and where justice could be served, would never find that end.

Sliding her hands back into the pockets of her jacket, she walked up to the memorial, looking it over, reading the notes and cards that lined along the sidewalk. Someone else approached, stopped and then continued onward. Her own senses reach outward, feeling the cold that seemed to wrap itself around the place and she begun to look for a doorway inside.

From an outside perspective, the places Alym showed up at would probably seem a little random. She zigzagged across the galaxy almost on a whim, but there was a beacon she was following. It was invisible to most, of course, and ignored by those too afraid to heed its call - but Alym had no fear, and she went where the whispers beckoned, almost powerless against the siren song.

This time Alym found herself on Coruscant, gazing at the memorial for a murdered child with thinly veiled boredom. Walking past the seemingly endless line of bouquets tossed on the ground, Alym couldn't help but wonder how much the flower industry profited on the deaths of others. Maybe if this whole Sith thing didn't pan out she'd go into floral arrangements. Seemed like easy money if you had the stomach to commit a couple murders yourself once in awhile to keep quarterly profits in the black.

The procession was moving at a decent clip, anyone with any real attachment to the victim was probably inside by now. Anyone left still looking for a way in was merely a tourist, telling themselves they were here in solidarity and ignoring the idea that maybe they were just here to feel a little bit better about their own lives. Hey, no matter what happens, at least their kid isn't dead. Not yet, anyway.

Noticing a blond haired woman taking the time to inspect the tidings left behind by the mourners, Alym made a seemingly random choice and decided to strike up a conversation.

So did you know the victim? Alym asked, bending over herself to pick up one of the cards and skim its contents. She couldn't help but cock a concerned and curious eyebrow as she read.

You were fourth in line
Apologetically
You won't be the last

The handwriting seemed a little... rushed, though - like it was written by someone who was either extremely upset or pumped up on adrenaline. Red ink that dried a little dark, interesting choice. Looking at Thalia, Alym blinked a few times before shaking her head in a bit of disbelief.

Check that out, She said, holding the small folded card out towards Thalia. Some people got really kriffed senses of humor.

Her thoughts and focus were suddenly interrupted by another patron who decided to visit the memorial, but this one instead of visiting and passing in silence, struck up conversation. Thalia glanced at the woman who bent down to pick up one of the cards in curiosity. "No, just heard about the investigation from colleagues. Thought I would come check things out...for curiosity's sake." she explained briefly while the fellow blonde woman remained silent as she read over the contents of the card.

As she invited Thalia to look at the card, the Ranger frowned as she took it, glancing at the woman's expression before reading what was written inside. "A really kriffed sense of humor is an understatement..." she softly spoke while reading the message. However, there was something that did not sit well with the Ranger as she closed the card, flipping it from front to back, and then opening it back up again. She inhaled deeply and scratched one of the letters with her nail, as she tried to not believe the obscure thought of what someone could use in place of red ink. However, as she ran her finger over the letters, the chill of the Force prickled down her spine, she felt the urgency, a hunger as each letter was scratched into the card and looked up, her surroundings had changed, the woman no longer stood in her place and she only saw a shadow against black-painted windows.

Thalia jumped, slightly startled, her own reality falling back to the street where she started, "I'll see that the detectives get this, thank you. Hopefully there won't be anymore, would hate the parents to have found such a thing." she said tucking the card into the inner pocket of her coat and looked back down at the other pieces that placed for the memorial, drawing on her senses to now root out what she had felt from this ominous card.

Heard about it from colleagues, eh? Alym couldn't help but take a half step back away from Thalia when she said that, the realization that the blonde woman might herself be a police officer. Not that Alym was particularly afraid of the police, but given her.. darker inclinations, it seemed like a safe bet to keep a little distance.

Alym felt a disturbance in the force around Thalia as she inspected the card for herself. It didn't seem deliberate, like the young cop was willfully applying some kind of ability or something, but the change in the currents that ran through and between she and Thalia were undeniable.

It now seemed evident that the force had brought the two together here, and the card was going to be the tie that bound them together. How long that tie would last, Alym was unsure. Regardless, she wasn't going to let Thalia disappear on her now. They had only stepped a toe into the rabbit hole, they both needed to see how much deeper it would go.

Seems unlikely, Alym said with a shrug, eyeing Thalia for a moment before taking out a pack of cigarettes from her jacket and plopping one into her mouth. The letter seems too.. deliberate. Written with intent, not something hastily tossed together by some shitbrain prankster. With a swift snap of her index finger and thumb, Alym made a small flame and lit her smoke. Unsure how of Thalia would react to her usage of the force, Alym gave her a small wink and cracked a half smile. Just a parlor trick, nothing worry about.

Thinking for a moment, Alym dragged on her cigarette while her eyes were drawn to the memorial hall. Services are starting. No sense hanging about out here anymore, I would think.

The next part would be the make or break moment for Alym. Thalia taking the note back to her precinct would likely mean the severing of their budding relationship and an opportunity lost to the ether.

Detectives haven't had much luck solving any of this. You take that note to them, it'll just get filed away in some cabinet and forgotten about. These kids and their parents deserve justice, Truth be told Alym couldn't give a womprat's ass about justice, but she figured Thalia probably did. I think you and I could do better work looking into this together. The killer might still be around here, and he won't be suspicious of us. Neither of us look like cops.

Finishing her cigarette, Alym flicked it into the gutter where it fizzled and died in a small puddle of dirty water. What do you say? She asked, a hopeful look on her face. Another facade, but Alym wasn't above pretending to get what she wanted. I'll follow your lead, detective?

There was a whispering in the Force growing stronger by each moment she stood there and listened to the woman speak her own thoughts on the situation. Thalia sharply inhaled as she watched the flame flicker from her thumb, the woman of course dismissed it, telling Thalia not to worry. She did not say anything, but her shoulders slightly relaxed as she decided even if she were part of the red saber club, there was no means to arrest the woman. She suggested to move on, but then offered the idea of taking the next step, one that could though help the department, do what she knew the Rangers could not do: solve the case. Thalia knew that would be breaking rules, there was an order of operations when it came to investigations. Those rules allowed for prosecution and action...only when there is evidence and their criminal caught.

There was truth to what the woman spoke about and Thalia knew the stalls in the investigation was more than just a lack of evidence, it was also because the department had their noses search for an enemy that they couldn't fight. However, there was this woman who now flicked her cig into the dirty street water. Thalia quirked an eyebrow, what else do you have to lose right now?

She had nothing else to lose, she was already back at the bottom of the barrel after her recent suspension for a rowdy display at a local bar. "Let's go partner." she said pulling her jacket tighter around her torso and folded her arms, looking back at the building. "Alright," she pulled out the card again, opening it up again as she started walking around the building, expecting for the woman to follow. She needed a hint of direction, a sensation; she felt like a hound who just needed a scent as she sent her elbow through the glass of the door to unlock it.

"I need to see the crime scene and work backwards." she explained, entering the building, expecting the woman to start asking questions, "If you see anything that looks...odd, tell me." she said.
