Isaac Cael

jedimae.jpg

Name: Isaac Cael
Faction: Jedi Order
Rank: Padawan
Species: Human
Age: 23
Gender: Male

Height: 5’10
Weight: 186 lbs.
Eyes: Light Blue
Hair: Strawberry Blonde
Skin: Pale

Appearance: Isaac was of average height for a human, standing five feet, ten inches and weighing about 186 pounds. He was athletic, but slim, resulting in a physique that was trim but not physically imposing. He wore strawberry blonde hair - usually allowed to grow down to his neck; his eyes were a light blue with a tint of emerald. His face retained a youngly composition, and was kept clean-shaven.

Attire: Isaac wore darker robes and undergarments during his time with the Order, composed of a deep brown cloak, boots, pants, shirt and vest.

Credits: (new characters start with 1,000 credits)
Distinguishing Marks: A small birthmark on his neck, just under the left part of his jaw.
Dominant Hand: Isaac was right-handed

Force Sensitive: Yes

STRENGTH: 6/10 – Isaac was perhaps not the strongest of the pupils of the Jedi, but he was capable of some feats of strength from time to time when it was required. His skill in combat came mostly from his natural dexterity and the fact that a lightsaber’s power was not determined by the brute strength of its wielder.
DEXTERITY: 9/10 – Isaac possessed a natural finesse with a blade to accommodate his years of training. He was not as good with a gun as he was with a sword or saber – his hands had a slight shake to them that he tried to conquer through his training. He was capable of extraordinary acrobatic feats. His master commented that his maneuvers with a lightsaber surprised and impressed him on more than one occasion.
CONSTITUTION: 7/10 – Healthy, though a bit frail, Isaac had a natural toughness that was provided largely by his own force of will. He did not give in easily, but his body could only take so much before even his heart had to surrender.
INTELLIGENCE: 8/10 – Isaac spent his years training not only his sword arm, but his mind as well. He was mentally disciplined, and could think his way through most puzzles. His knowledge of the galaxy, the Jedi, and the Republic was extensive.
WISDOM: 7/10 – Though he had already seen much as a Padawan, and though he possessed a knowledge of the galaxy and its people, races, places and history that had distinguished him as a scholar of sorts among his peers in certain regards, Isaac’s true understanding of things was limited by his age and experience.
CHARISMA: 9/10 – Isaac had a natural charismatic flair – he was gifted with a voice that allowed him to sing and orate splendidly.

Isaac inherited from his parents a small snub fighter lightly equipped for dogfighting small craft.
(I would try to include more detail, or introduce something new, but I’m not sure about the overall state of starfighter tech.)

Personality

Isaac was described as being overly kind to his fellows and to those he met. Otherwise, some described him as being somewhat of a recluse since his parents' deaths. He did not usually attend large get-togethers or try to vocalize his opinions, but when called upon or when truly moved to speak, Isaac tried to display himself in as civil and fair a manner as possible. He was opinionated on certain issues, such as the Council and the role of Jedi in the galaxy. His opinions led to certain disagreements, and even jealousies and rivalries, in the past. Though he wished the best, he was not entirely content with the role of supporter – he wanted to become someone great. His ambition, according to Master Varis, was in some ways a strength, but in many ways a weakness.

Like all people, Isaac’s kindness and other positive attributes hid a darker perspective and deeper emotions. One major detriment to Isaac’s wellbeing and advancement, in Master Varis’ opinion, was his pride. Isaac’s gifts as a duelist and his abilities using the Force instilled in him a sense of pride and strength that, when threatened, sometimes caused him to behave erratically. He easily dipped into anger when his skills or views were heavily challenged or disproven, and he developed a stern reliance on his own sense of usefulness that made him prone to depression when strongly rebuked, scolded, or ignored. He did not want to lead what he considered to be ‘a useless life,’ and he could not stand the idea of being a ‘nobody,’ or a ‘useless person.’

Considering certain elements of his personality, Isaac found the Jedi Code at times to be incredibly difficult to follow.

The History of Isaac Cael

The Beginning

Isaac Cael was born in the Jedi keepings on Ossus to Alexian and Lydia Cael, two respected and well-known Jedi Knights, in 13,024 BBY. As the son of two Knights, Isaac was soon confirmed to be Force Sensitive, and was thus trained in the ways of the Force from his earliest years. From the time he was very young to his first days with a lightsaber, Isaac was fascinated by the weapons of the Jedi. Starting at the age of seven he was instructed in the use of ceremonial swords and staves, and by the time he was nine, he was given a training saber to begin his instruction in the ways of the lightsaber. Isaac immediately showed a great affinity for the weapon, displaying for the first time his uncanny dexterity and focus. His parents, proud of their son and his growing power, realized his potential as a duelist, and asked Master Dariim Varis, a renowned swordsman, to help them train him as he grew older.

Isaac’s tutelage under his parents and the renowned Master Varis instilled in him an understanding and respect for the weapons of the Jedi Order, especially the lightsaber itself. To Varis he embodied the next generation of the Jedi Order’s prized Guardians. The training on Ossus in his youth set the foundations for much of the rest of Isaac’s life, and his own personality. As he grew more and more adept with a blade, Isaac showed a brash sense of confidence, and more than once his overconfidence led to injury. Alexian and Lydia mentored Isaac in the ways of the Force, and schooled him in the history of the Jedi Order and the Republic. As a result Isaac became a cultured and learned student of various events and people who had contributed to the growth of the Republic and the Jedi Order, and he passed this information on to other Younglings – becoming somewhat of a scholar among his young peers. He enjoyed discussing matters of galactic importance, such as economies and happenings in the Republic, and he also made a habit of arguing with Master Varis about the role of the Jedi Order in the Republic. These arguments would continue through his later years. Despite these arguments, at Alexian and Lydia’s request, when Isaac came of age Master Varis chose him as his Padawan.

Tragedy and Enlightenment

When Isaac was fifteen years old, Varis upped the ante during training. The two sparred with each-other regularly, Dariim teaching Isaac increasingly more complicated and advanced techniques of such styles as Schii-cho, Makashi, and Ataru. Isaac, with his superb speed and dexterity, excelled with Ataru’s wide strokes and acrobatics. Though he was not the strongest of pupils, his finesse lent itself well to Makashi as well, but since Ataru was more widely used and accepted, and since Isaac had an excellent natural agility, Master Varis focused their training on the use of the style.

Around this time, Alexian and Lydia were sent on a mission by the Council to Anaxes to investigate a series of strange occurrences in the nearby systems. After making a discovery that was described as being ‘serious and dire’ to the Order and to the Republic, Alexian and Lydia attempted to flee Anaxes. A band of renegades followed them, and before the Caels could escape to hyperspace their transport was destroyed by a pirate cruiser that had been orbiting Anaxes and supporting the renegades on the planet below. After a week without any further contact from the duo, the Jedi Council dispatched an investigation team to Anaxes. They found the derelict transport and the bodies of the Caels.

When Isaac heard the news of his parents’ deaths he was distraught. Master Varis hesitantly agreed to continue his training as usual at Isaac’s request, but upon experiencing the growing anger and depression in his student through their continued sparring practices, Varis put the training on hold and tried to calm his pupil. Though he had been taught how to use a blade and though he had been schooled in the Force and in various disciplines, Isaac had never properly been trained in the ways of calming oneself and soothing their emotions. His close relationship with his parents contributed to his growing depression, and though Master Varis was glad to have seen the Caels raise and train their boy so effectively, he lamented that they had not chosen to remove the familial element and raise him as a student alone to defend him from the emotions and attachments that would develop and, inevitably, the shock that would come with their deaths.

Varis consoled Isaac with the lesson that all beings became one with the Force upon their death, and that his parents would always be with him – in his heart and soul. Though Isaac was calmed by the idea of spiritual connection to his parents, the scar that had been left upon him by the ordeal began the long chain of events that would change him into the man he was meant to be.

Investigation on Anaxes

After several months of training to calm his senses and hone his body further, Isaac and Master Varis were summoned by the Council and given a new mission: to help the government of Anaxes in finding the source of pirate activity in the system and help bring the perpetrators to justice. In truth, the Council wanted to know who had been responsible for the deaths of two Jedi Knights – and despite the risk involved, Master Varis himself had asked for the assignment, believing that if he and Isaac were responsible for bringing the criminals to justice, it would give his pupil some measure of peace.

Instead, disaster occurred. The moment master and apprentice arrived on Anaxes, they were apprehended as political dissidents and imprisoned. After taking a moment in their confinement to reassess their situation, Master Varis and Isaac escaped their prison and began their investigation. They were promptly contacted by a rebel group, and upon meeting their leader (an Alsakan supporter by the name of Salas Vaan), they were told that the government was being bought off by the same group responsible for the deaths of the Caels. Master Varis, sensing a growing restlessness in his student, ordered Isaac to remain with the rebels while he infiltrated the government center alone.

Isaac knew why his master had told him to stay behind. In truth, the young padawan was being touched by the taint of the Darkside. His passionate hatred of the outlaws and the government that supported them was drawing him closer to the fall, and despite his attempts to use his training to center himself, he was unsuccessful. He was quickly losing control of his emotions, and when, in a closed meeting, Vaan suggested an open insurrection, Isaac was quick to lend his support. Weeks passed with Dariim’s investigation, and Isaac was too restless and angry to give him any more time.

Little did he know, Master Varis was hot on the trail of the murderers and their leader. The rebels and Isaac took to the streets of the capital within days, and the entire city was pushed to chaos. Isaac, saber in hand, marched on the parliament himself alongside Salas Vaan. Inside, they found the planetary governor, and beside him Master Varis. Isaac, still infuriated at the fact that the government had supported the pirates, lunged at the governor himself – but was stopped mid-swing by his master. Dariim held Isaac at bay while the governor pleaded with Salas to call of his rebels. He explained that the planetary authorities were luring the outlaws into a trap, but it had taken some time. Salas’ insurrection had spurred events forward, and the brigands were within the city limits. At that utterance, Isaac diverted his attention away from his master, and swore that he would claim revenge for his parents’ murder.

Master Varis allowed him to leave the offices of the governor, and asked the governor himself to call off any efforts by the military to engage or capture the pirate leader – only to eliminate his underlings. The governor agreed, and Isaac and the pirate leader met face-to-face. Salas Vaan and Master Varis both watched the young Jedi hopeful best the bandit in single combat, and Dariim did not interfere until Isaac leveled his blade at the man’s neck – his victim defenseless, and his fall imminent.

“Is this the victory you want?” Varis asked at that moment, “To kill this man, and to cast your own life away in doing so? Do you want to abandon all that your parents taught you, just for a fleeting moment of dark satisfaction – a guilty pleasure? Do not murder this man – do not fall to his level just for a short moment of false satisfaction and security. Do not forsake your mother and father. Do not forsake yourself.”

Isaac was partially awakened from his frenzy by his master’s words, but the emotions that ran through him dominated his mind still. He did not believe that Dariim could understand the kind of pain that he was feeling, having been a student of the Jedi without his own family. Isaac, tears in his eyes, remembered the lessons of his mother and father before their passing. He heard their voices as he held their murderer at his mercy, begging him to let him live and face trial – begging him not to surrender his place in the Order and his sanity for vengeance. Isaac deliberated within himself, unsure and afraid, unable to see the consequences. This man could escape. This man could kill again; but what was even worse to him was the feeling that he had failed if either thing occurred. He did not want to let this man live to fight and murder again.

Finally, Isaac relinquished his lightsaber. He refused to cast away the lessons of his parents and his master. He refused to betray the Jedi Order. The outlaw was tried on Anaxes for numerous crimes, and then on Coruscant for the murder of the Caels and high treason. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in both systems. Though Isaac would not cast the thought of the murderer from his mind, he felt, for the first time since his parents’ deaths, at peace. Master Varis congratulated him for his achievement, and told Isaac that he had learned one of the most important lessons of the Jedi: how to control himself when the darkside came to reign.

It was the most important lesson of Isaac’s life.

Note: Name inspired by earlier character; otherwise, entirely unrelated. History and so forth might be shorter than usual. ...at any rate, yeah, I finally made another character on here. Now if I can figure out wtf's going on I'll be in business.
