DESCRIPTION​

Developed and manufactured by the Corporate Sector Authority for its Picket Fleet, the IRD starfighter - IRD standing for Intercept Reconnaissance Defense - is a feared opponent in the Outer Rim, the bane of pirates and union organizers alike. Though its design dates back to the Galactic Civil War, the type is still considered modern and deadly over a century later, a testament to its simple, utilitarian yet highly efficient construction.

Meant to be the CSA's equivalent of a TIE fighter, the IRD focuses on speed and maneuverability, to the detriment of nearly all else. Equipped with 2 medium laser cannons, the IRD can reach a top speed of 102 MGLT, and possesses specialized maneuvering jets which allow it to perform snap turns and other astrobatics with relative ease. Unfortunately, like the TIE, the IRD lacks any kind of shielding or a hyperdrive, making it less than durable and giving it only a relatively short range. Unlike the TIE, however, the IRD does have an integrated life support system, as well as one of the finest pilot ejection systems in any starfighter, incorporating an inflatable survival capsule and other amenities to keep a downed pilot - a highly specialized and valuable employee of the CSA - alive until they can be rescued.

The IRD starfighter, though it is beginning to show its age, is still widely used by the CSA, and has been offered for export to trusted business partners. Pirates and other criminals in the space surrounding the CSA have also been known to use IRDs, having stolen or otherwise acquired them.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. IRDs are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
