DESCRIPTION
The Invigilator-class duraclad is a heavily armed orbital gunboat manufactured by Bespin Motors and market primarily to small system defense navies looking for a ship that packs a heavy punch into a small, relatively low-cost package. Ballooning in popularity as the Galaxy grows more and more unstable, the Invigilator has proven a major boon to Bespin Motors' profits, while simultaneously giving small, independent systems a means of enforcing their neutrality.

Classified as a duraclad, a highly archaic term which essentially means any ship clad in duranium armor - once a major game-changer in space combat - the Invigilator falls just below the corvette category at only 70 meters in length, about the size of a medium freighter. From the factory, they are painted in Bespin Motors' trademark red, although other finishes can be specified. The ship is armed with a single dual heavy turbolaser turret, such as might be found on a large capital ship; this weapon is driven by its own dedicated reactor, giving it an excellent recharge cycle and rate of fire, although only a few hits are necessary to disable or destroy most targets. Additional armament, meanwhile, consists of 5 dual medium laser turrets arranged to cover the sides and rear of the vessel, as well as a quartet of proton torpedo tubes located in the bow.

Being intended as a planetary defense vessel, the Invigilator is fairly slow and has only a token interstellar capability, being primarily intended to rely on its heavy shields, thick armor and potent weapons to win any fight it gets into. Top speed is 40 MGLT, with average maneuverability; the ship's hyperdrive is rated at class 8.

The ship has a crew of 12, including 3 bridge crew, an engineer and 8 gunners. Though not intended for passenger service, up to 48 people can be carried aboard, these generally being marines for boarding operations or civilians in the event of a planetary evacuation. In addition, 300 tons of cargo can be loaded into the hold, plus consumables sufficient for a patrol lasting up to 1 month.

As intended, the Invigilator is primarily used by small system defense navies, who appreciate a ship that can go head-to-head with small capital ships but also won't break the bank to purchase or maintain. A small flotilla of these craft can take on vessels up to the size of a light cruiser.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Invigilator-class duraclads, despite their small size, are classified as capital ships under Galactic law due to their heavy armament. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a new class of warship not previously seen in Star Wars, meant primarily as a set piece for characters fighting with or against local system militaries.

RESTRICTIONS
Invigilator-class duraclads are capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as faction assets, however, or by a group of at least 4 individual characters who work together regularly.
