INSCIUS SERIES ARMOR SYSTEM

Started as a modular design by a coalition of smiths, former soldiers and mercenaries, the INSCIUS series armor was constructed with ergonomics and operator survivability in mind. Initial concepts called for a much heavier armor rating with the present exo-skeleton rig used as a strength enhancer to increase battlefield options. Unfortunately repeated tests shows that the prototype had not only overlooked the problem of standardized power multipliers (Different species had different bone and muscle strength), it increased power consumption, generated wasted heat and required daily complicated maintenance. There simply was no way to continue with the series and as such INSCIUS underwent a different direction.

The exo-skeleton remained after the initial design purge, but functions simply as a load-bearing feature for better weight distribution. This allowed the designer to increase the overall suit weight without burdening the wearer. Constructed with titanium, it is lightweight and durable and offers minimal resistance against melee weapons although as stated in the user manual, is not recommended as critical damage could impose mobility restrictions; the joints have been known to lock up with sufficient damage. In that situation the wearer remains disadvantaged until the suit is taken off and inspected. The chest piece remains the most heavily armored section of the system, a multi-layered design consisting of the full body suit (Further on that later on) composed of armorweave, a padded flak-jacket with kevlar fabric and the segmented polyethylene plates creating a moving mesh of durability and resilience. The addition of kevlar fabric increases the effectiveness of the padding thus lessening the concussive impact from external damage i.e blunt weapons, explosives, blaster bolts. Material composition is of course no substitute for good cover and only serves to prolong wearer expectant service life. As always repeated damage will render any armor, no matter how resilient, useless and though INSCIUS prides itself in protection of its wearer, some semblance of tactical awareness is required to make the dream come into full effect.

INSCIUS's peak design however is in its biomedical monitoring system coupled with an automated medical cocktail injector (AMCI), utilizing an ingenious sensor system which detects internal hemorrhage, organ bruising and broken bones. With customisable settings built into the system, the AMCI will inject a dose of morphine (or any other painkiller liquids for species with incompatible biological makeup), antiseptic fluids and sealing foam to temporarily close the wound from bacterial infections into the affected area. In the case of broken bones the system interferes with the suit's exoskeleton system to lock up the joints to prevent accidentally moving the limb- this is a rather contested function of the feature and can be disabled in the system settings, as field testers report the sudden locking up of their limb to be a sudden and jarring experience. Expensive, the decision to include the medical system has solidified the armor series as a top-of-the-line armor system for operators without the luxury of a field medic. Although the choice of medical cocktails is left up to the operator's discretion (with the engineers confirming that it works with 'combat stims') it is still highly advisable for the user to immediately seek medical attention, as the dosage is only meant to be a stop-gap while the user extricates themselves out of sticky situations. The medical storage slots can contain up to 200 ml of liquids, 200 ml of antiseptic and up to 100 ml of foam spray which, dependent of the nature of the open wound has a maximum of 3 applications. Due to the personalized designs the storage capacity cannot be modified in any nature or render the entire system useless.

Acknowledging that independent operators may find themselves within hazardous scenarios INSCIUS comes fully equipped with a full-body skin suit and an oxygen supply of 15 minutes, allowing for space walks and even in conditions with hazardous airborne agents for a limited amount of time. Unfortunately in order to cut back on costs the suit itself does not posses the necessary certifications to be able to withstand direct contact with hazardous materials any longer than any standard armor system. Should the user find themselves suddenly trapped in a room with debilitating gas it is recommended to immediately extricate themselves out of the situation despite the 15 minute guarantee as the manufacturers do not guarantee continuous safety.

To assist in low-light conditions the helmet comes with a 3rd generation, military grade night vision system with an operating lifetime of 1 hour of continuous usage. In this mode the wearer is advised to avoid sudden contact with sources of bright lights as it can potentially blind them. Despite its angular design to minimize surface contact with blaster fire the helmet should be given proper care as sufficient damage can render the suit's oxygen seal and night vision capabilities inoperable; not to mention impair user vision, damage the integrated commlink system and expose the wearer's grey matter.

Once more they designers must emphasize on the idea behind INSCIUS: It is merely a stop-gap solution to some of the more pertinent hazards that an operator might find themselves but should not rely heavily on the system itself. Though obvious, this is merely an action to prevent future lawsuits as is common.

Function 1: Automated Medical Monitoring and Stabilizing Suite
  • An automated medical monitoring system which detects user vital signs (Heart rate, blood pressure, adrenaline levels.) and any damage dealt to the wearer; automatically injects a medical solution (Default morphine, but is adjustable for species with incompatible biological/medical make up or for combat stimulants) into the affected limb. May be reprogrammed for a manual injection, activated by a button located on the shins, forearms or upper left torso. Also applies antiseptic and foam spray which hardens after three seconds of applications should the suit detect any open wounds. WARNING: Due to the lack of artificial intelligence support the suit will detect physical damage at any range unless specifically programmed by the user prior to the combat scenario. Not doing so will lead to situations where minor wounds (i.e simple bruises) being applied an overkill amount of painkillers, rendering the limb numb and affecting user dexterity (or any other possible medical side effects.). Furthermore when the suit detects a broken bone it overrides the targeted limb's exoskeleton rig and locks up the joints to prevent further movement to reduce bone movement. Application is instant and sudden and has been noted by field testers to be 'extremely distracting'. Unfortunately the only possible way to alleviate this situation is to either de-automate the medical system and manually lock the rig joints, or remove the exoskeleton rig in itself (inadvisable due to its function as a load-bearing system.)
Function 2: Sealed Undersuit and Air Canisters
  • Features a sealed bodysuit for vacuum operations along with concealed air canisters concealed beneath the back plate with the intention to allow the user to survive in scenarios with airborne toxic agents or a total lack of oxygen. Due to the size of the canisters the suit can only guarantee 15 minutes of oxygen (may vary depending on anxiety levels of user). This can be accessed by pressing one of two buttons on either sides of the wearer's neck.
Function 3: 3rd Generation Night Vision System
  • Describe the function, what it does, and what limitations it has.A 3rd Generation Military Grade Night Vision system is installed in the suit's helmet to assist the operator in low light conditions. It has a 1 hour battery life (under continuous use) and is powered by an energy power pack at the base of the helmet, which can be accessed by a Phillips screwdriver. Activated by a button located on the left side of the helmet, close to the wearer's ear.

According to the timeline technology rules, the fourth paragraph under the "Weapons and Armor" heading, armor possessing lightsaber resistance is limited to being contained to just two pieces, at the most. In addition, the armor section expands on this, citing that armor made from these materials, either phrik or a cortosis-blend, are extremely rare, and thus inherently very expensive. Even when they were acquired, they'd be limited to small pieces, not something covering a soldier's whole torso. Suffice to say, it is not something that would be present on mass-produced armor, especially considering it's not a product of a main faction. I've noticed that the material you've used is absent. You'll need to clarify that, and have legitimate reason for having it. Just by way of reminder, the twelfth bulletin highlights that "to protect against lightsabers" isn't a reason.

Another issue I've found is with the first function, the automated medical monitoring and stabilizing suite. This feels uncomfortably high-tech, and what we've been trying to shy away from, but Clayton knows better than I on this. I'm also not convinced it effectively violates the purpose behind the functionality rule, as it measures three distinct vital signs, any physical damage to the wearer, and then has a quick-response feature where it injects a medical cocktail into the damaged region.

This also covers too much for medium armor; it reads more like heavy armor, as it protects virtually every area of the body.

That's all I noticed at least (had a 13 hour shift, so I'm fuzzy headed atm)
