Inferno Generator Sword

Description:

Originally developed by the Huntsmen Militia, the Type-8 is a variant of the Vibrosword designed to deliver a unique type of damage: Heat. A power amplifier in the hilt transfers energy, usually from a mounted powercell on the belt, into the blade, heating it to the point of melting armor and burning flesh, making the damage it does more akin to that of a blaster than a sword. Unfortunately, this means that the weapon has to heat up for around two minutes before it can be used effectively, and can run out charge if the powercell runs dry, which typically happens in around a minute of use. Not only that, but the weapon is incredibly dangerous for everyone in the vicinity when it's heated, requiring special insulated gloves to be wielded properly, and burning exposed flesh on anyone too close. After the cell is depleted, the weapon cools quickly over around two minutes. This makes the weapon fairly niche, and incredibly dangerous to be around, although undeniably effective in the right hands.

Intent:

My purpose in creating this is to not only bring attention to a little used organization, but to make an interesting and unique weapon for players to use with its own benefits and drawbacks, to encourage alternative play-styles and new character types.

So how does one's hands not turn into a pair of nicely charred hot dogs while holding this thing? I would not want my hands anywhere near a blade that's sitting at around 1,400 F.

It'd probably require some heavily insulated gloves on the part of the wearer. Although I can work on some sort of system to keep the hilt cool if you want.

maybe this could help even though it's talking about a lightsaber and not an inferno blade.

This is interesting, I will say that. Explain the hand protection thing. And...talk about how dangerous it is for everyone around, including the user, when this thing is on.

What is "too close" for the exposed flesh burning bit?

Hmm. I want it to be kind of close, but not too close. Maybe, like, meter to half a meter? It would be painful outside of that range, but tolerable.

So basically whoever uses this is going to have to be in a suit made from delicious, delicious asbestos. Approved, though we'll keep an eye on this to make sure it isn't OP in practical use.
