The battle might be over, but the fight for Felucia is far from over. Before the Sith took over, Felucia was a neutral planet. The Free Worlds Alliance hopes to change that. Now that the Sith have been driven from the planet, representatives of the Free Worlds Alliance have been sent to Felucia with one singular purpose: to convince the planet to join them. They will need to act quickly if they hope to be successful.

Cal took in the air as he walked down the ramp of his Consular class diplomatic vessel and into the small farmstead that was to serve as the open forum of the various Felucian groups with whom they would be meeting today. Since the 'Battle of Felucia' had come to its end the Free World's Alliance now sought to welcome the newly liberated world into their group - however, Cal was unsure as to how to proceed. In his eyes the point of the battle was to give the people of Felucia a choice, it was not an invasion.

Before he continued further, toward the meeting site, he stopped and faced his two companions, other Senators from the FWA.

"We must be careful today. It must be the free choice of the people to join if they choose to follow that path. We are merely here to present our side of the debate, and to meet the other sides of that same debate with vigour. Good luck."

With that, he walked into the field where they would be meeting. Stands had been arranged in a circle, with a flat and open floor in the centre of the circle, where the appointed speakers could make their representations. Approaching, he shook the presiding officer's hand, and thanked him for welcoming them to the debate, before waiting for his colleagues to do likewise.

It was a long and hard fought battle with the Jedi and the FWA worlds involved that pushed the Sith off world. Nicolas nodded at Cal's advice. They weren't here to pressure them into joining the Free World, If the Felucians want to that's good after hearing their case, good.. If they don't want them, that's fine as well. But of course go big or go home, right? Going by Darth Andruil's holonet broadcast the Felucian's apparently prospered and were protected from threats like pirates. It may or may not be true as far as Nicolas knows, but it's something to consider.

Nicolas would move on following Cal. He took would come to the meeting grounds and offer a handshake and a thank to the officer. Looks like things are about to get started...

She was taking an incredible risk by being here. This she knew, but a diplomatic immunity had been offered to an Imperial representative. They likely didn't expect the Empress of the Sith herself to make an appearance, but Felucia was near and dear to her heart in a way that few other worlds were.

Still, in the event that things here went poorly, she made her landing with several of her guards and a force of ships at the edge of the system, ready to jump in and make thick, violent war should they choose to violate the terms of the meeting.

As her ship set down, Andruil descended the ramp. She wore her royal robes and a headdress that was fitting for royal and official occasions yet still showed the tribal origin of her own people. The first thing she did, however, was bend down and run her fingers along the ground. She missed this world and this people. She enjoyed this place and apart from Dathomir had spent more time here than anywhere. Her anger over its invasion was entirely genuine.

As she made her way in, rather than address the Senators or the group as a whole, she made direct path over to Kralla. He ws the lead of the farmers and was the one she had first negotiated with alongside Tiamat, and had gotten to know over the years she had ruled Felucia. She took his hand in both of hers.

I am so sorry for your losses, she said, knowing this war wasn't something they had wanted. They'd wanted safety and security, not a violent invasion. The pair exchanged a few words before something else occurred to draw her attention.

The Chieftain of the Jungle Felucians arrived. It didn't take a Force-sensitive to tell that he was angry. He and his people had fought alongside the Sith against the invaders. Before she was a Sith and certainly before she had ruled Felucia, she had spent weeks living among his people and getting to know them. If this conversation went poorly, they were very likely to have the natives fighting a guerrilla war against them.

The pair once again exchanged words, except this time it was not in common. It was in the barking, native language of the people. She held up her hands as if she were placating him before he moved over to take a seat, shooting daggers at the Senators.

Finally, the Empress made her way over to the pair of Senators.

I hope you brought an interpreter. I'd hate to hear you were intending to leave out our tribal friends, she said.

Senators...? she asked, waiting for their names. She made it clear they were playing on her home turf and with her people. Their task would be beyond difficult.

Cal felt himself go cold as something changed.

Then he saw her, none of other than the Empress herself.

His heart rate quickened and his breath became short. He felt a knot in his stomach, and turned away, breathing deeply to calm himself. Cal was shocked at his reaction but - it was her.

His fear morphed into anger when he saw the Empress express sympathies to the chieftain. This new brand of Imperial delusion was one that had not escaped his notice, the Sith bandied around the deception that their empire was one of peace and stability - ignoring the history of their order as they did so.

Finally, he steadied himself as the Empress approached and, relying on his diplomatic training to see him through, he smiled as he bowed, respecting the rank, not its holder.

"Empress." he said as impassively as he could manage, before returning to the task at hand.

They may be on the home turf of the Sith, but Cal had history on his side, and a fair amount of idealised courage to boot.

"You honour us with these talks, and on behalf of the Free World's, I thank you all. War has made monsters of many, but it is in the aftermath of a conflict that a new and better future can be forged. Today, I want to talk to you all about the importance of leading your own future, a future where your people are seen as equals in a partnership of equals, not thralls in an Empire of subjects."

"History has shown us, time and time again, that the Sith and their ways are a poison, one that seeps into our way of life slowly, undetectable, before it consumes us all."

"But we must learn from that past. Whether it was the obliteration of Alderaan by the Sith war machine, the destruction of the Hosnian system, or the war-fleets of Exogol, the Sith have shown that their natural instinct it to disregard the futures of entire worlds, whole species, at the whims of their crusade for absolute and total control."

"However the Alliance is one that chooses a different path. We know that those in power must be held to account by those over whom they seek to Govern. We strive for a more perfect democracy, one where the powerful are kept in check, where we the people decide our future and path."

"Today, Felucia stands at a crossroads."

"We can push for the Sith, ignore their history, and listen to the false words of an Empress who shall claim to be different, or we can take the future into our own hands, and hand the power, back to you, the people."

He stepped back, and gestured for his colleague the Senator for New Alderaan, to make his opening statement.

She could feel the anger and annoyance directed at her by the Senators of the FWA, but she couldn't muster up even a hint of regret. In fact, she was enraged by their presence here as well. Invaders and hypocrites masquerading for "freedom."

As the Lothal Senator completed his opening statements, he turned to his partner to await his words. After a period of silence, the Empress decided that he was either tongue-tied or hand nothing else to add, and spoke instead.

The lovely Senator from Lothal has a lot of words to say. He brings up ancient history and makes accusations because ultimately he wants to distract you. He wants to distract you from a simple "crossroads," she said, opting for the same term used by the opposition.

You know me. I've lived among your people. We gave you protection when no one else would and you prospered more than you have in generations, she said. Each word was true, and that was the part that the FWA would have the most trouble overcoming. Felucia was a world that was near and dear to her heart and she had seen to its issues and prosperity personally. A home away from home.

On the other hand, the FWA wants to offer you the same "peace" and "freedom" you already possess, and they bring it to you by invading, killing your people, and destroying your lands, she said. She would accurately lay all the violence at the feet of the FWA because it wasn't the Imperials who had invaded Felucia. Every bit of damage and death caused by the battle was their responsibility.

A simple crossroad indeed: those who protected you from the pirates who preyed on you and gave you prosperity or those who invaded and turned your world into a warzone, she said simply. She wouldn't allow the FWA to make this about anything other than what it was: beating someone with a stick and then pretending you lured them with the carrot.

Ooowwoo owow oooowwowowwooo oowwwoowwowoo oowwwww owow, she said, this time to the Jungle Felucians in their native language as most of them did not speak basic. She wouldn't offer any assistance to the Senators in that regard if they couldn't find their own willing translator.

And that brings me to my real question, Senators: if they choose not to join your "alliance," you'll simply leave? And when will you be leaving, then? Because they already made their choice six years ago and you invaded anyway, she asked pointedly. They had no right to be here and if they were going to invade, then she wanted them to say it. They wouldn't take the "moral high ground" in any argument about Felucia. They were in the sewers, and as she pointed it out, she began to hope that perhaps they would see - if only for a moment - that the "good guys" they were fighting for weren't so good after all. She was not the monster the media would have everyone believe. She wasn't hopeful. People had their dogma and they clung to it no matter what evidence was presented.

There was nothing about the Empress that mustered anything short of disgust from the Lothalite Senator, but he waited until she had finished speaking before making his own contribution to the debate.

"Jedha City, eleven-million. Alderaan, two-billion. Cardota, twenty-nine billion. Hosnian Prime, thirty-two billion. Courtsilius, thirty-three billion. Hosnian, twenty-two billion. Raysho, thirty-seven billion."

"One-hundred, and fourty-eight, billion lives."

"That is what the Sith Empire demanded last time, as the price for their power, as the price for their 'protection'. That is not a 'distraction' - it is a fact when the Sith did not get what they wanted, even when they were in power they obliterated entire planets, and sent hundreds of billions of innocent civilians to their deaths."

The fact that the Empress pretended that the history of the Order she was not only a member of, but the leader of was staggering. As a student of history, Starros knew well the cost of the Sith Empires leadership over planets, the history books were drenched in the blood of the Empires victims - it was an inescapable fact.

"The Sith Empire has only ever spoken the language of violence, death, and destruction. Lothal, and the Free Worlds, have freedom in our hearts, So I tell you this. Unlike the Empress, and her Order of destruction and war, I offer you peace, and the centuries of our history shows it. Unlike the Empress, I do not make offers with a knife behind my back - I make them as they are."

"The Empire, however, made it clear as to how they view the people of this galaxy when they said, and I quote, word for word "Stand down and join us, or Stand against us, and so pay the price.""

"We offer you freedom. The Empire, offers you only slavery."

Starros stopped speaking and encouraged his fellow Senators to make their own contributions to the debate.

Nicolas was content to let his Lothal counterpart speak when they were faced with none-other than the Empress herself. But now the Senator of New Alderaan is breaking his salience and has things to say. The Empress can play victim all she wants, the true victims here are the Felucian people if he had to be honest. It may have been easy for the Sith to have gain their favor. They promise prosperity and they may have had it, but unfortunately the war had to come here. Everything has a price.

"The Felucian people have the right to self-determination. They can chose to join the Free Worlds Alliance, and get all the perks that entails. Or if they want to remain independent, they can. They can hopefully live the rest of the war in peace. But make no mistake, your majesty, the Sith have made themselves our enemies. It doesn't matter what promises you made or kept, you dragged these people into the war, you made Felucia into a military target. The lives of Felucians being lost is tragic, but in the end you are the most responsible for what inevitably happened here." he sternly said. It's an undeniable truth, the Sith even had a base on the planet. Nicolas didn't address when they would be leaving, that's up to the FWA planet's forces in the system. For all Nicolas knows, they could use this planet as a stepping stone for further attacks against the Sith. Not like he'd tell anyways.

"For obvious reasons I'm sure you understand your Majesty, the Sith are not welcome to set up shop here again'" The Sith were beaten and repelled, at the cost of FWA planet's troops. It was a long and hard-fought battle, so the FWA will not get up and leave and let the Sith reoccupy the planet even if that's what the people want. There is sure to be the natives will be mostly sympathetic to the Sith, but even so letting the Sith come back isn't an option.

To her credit, Renfry did not interrupt the Senators as they spoke, instead scribbling down notes on what they had said and what she wanted to address.

Senator, my predecessors tried to kill me for the fact that my views of the Sith and Empire differed from theirs too radically. As much as you may try, I'm not going to take responsibility for the actions of someone so vehemently opposed to me that they made an attempt on my life, she said, and it was ludicrous to think she would. Every single instance he had brought up was under a regime that she had literally nearly died to fight against.

She was going to point out that he hadn't answered her question when the other one finally spoke up. And she could not believe what she was hearing.

Let me get this straight. You're blaming me - someone whose kingdom never sent troops into FWA territory before Felucia was invaded - for the fact that you invaded and killed the Felucians? Her face was clearly shocked and it wasn't an act. She couldn't believe he had just said that and decided that actually addressing the Senators was probably pointless at this point. Instead, she went directly to addressing the people and the galaxy that was watching.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. You can make a choice of either doing what the FWA want or... doing what the FWA want. Your "freedom" in action, she said, motioning with obvious disgust toward the pair. Join the FWA or go neutral were the only options. Gun barrel diplomacy at its finest.

Not only that, but they have blamed you for the fact that you were invaded. You "shouldn't have made yourselves a target" by joining the Sith in order to escape robbery, rape, and death at the hands of pirates, she said. It wasn't a position that would make them popular in any public eye.

It doesn't seem that the FWA's gun-barrel diplomacy... she motioned to the door and the literal occupying army that waited outside ...will allow for you to actually make a choice. On the other hand, if when given the choice between rejoining the Empire, the FWA, or going neutral you vote today to join the FWA. I will honor that, she said. She knew these people. She had lived among them, and she would live up to her word on that. Not that she thought she was going to have to.

The assembled peoples of Felucia were a mixed bunch, with many native Felucians but with just as many colonising aliens amongst them. For the purposes of this large scale debate, they were all intimately involved with the running of Felucia and had lived there for years. Some had roots on the planet stretching back centuries and others had moved to Felucia in decades past to try and make something of themselves. In the end, they all became locals of the often harsh green planet and they had assembled in order to make their voices heard.

A small number of protocol droids were available in the space between the politicians and the people, waiting to be called over by members of the public willing to speak. Already the crowd of people seemed to be rallying behind their chosen mouthpieces, the pillars of certain aspects of their community. Two native Felucians, one Rodian and one Human - all of them respected by their peoples. Each of them had people who depending on them and each other them was more than happy to speak up in turn to a translator made available to them.

Kralla, Felucian tribal leader, farmer and community leader.

Owowowowo owowowow oowow. Owoowowowowow oowoowowowowow owoowowwwowo. Wwoowooowo owoowooooon? Nwoowowowowo owowowow oowow wowown nowon?

Secranta, Rodian small business owner who had many friends within similar lines of work.

"I have a question for the Sith - you talk about protecting us and we thank ya for the pirates, sure, but where was the protection when the FWA brought the fight to you here? Some token ships and Sith who ran away into the forests? How you gonna do better next time we trust you with our backs?"

Fantilla, Felucian native and an active member of the Felucian local militia made of both tribals and colonials.

"Senate Lement - forgive basic. Bad. Droids worse."
a scrunched up face from the Felucian female, gesturing with the stump of her left arm, "Say you we a miltaric target. How? No weapons made here. We make good drugs - help drugs. We trade. Why us? Why were we target?"

And Raymond, an almost elderly Corellian Human who owned an import and export business within the main spaceport on Felucia.

"I would like to start by making it clear - I dislike both of your governments. Dictatorship or senate? All I see is regulations gone mad and oversight that strangles business. I have a question for both of you guys - what happens if we say nuts to both of you and go back to independence?"

Renfry listened and nodded along to the questions being posed both to her and to the Senators. Some of these questions were ones she had either anticipated or already considered.

That's a valid question, she said to the Rodian. Part of the answer is that when Felucia was invaded I lacked the resources that I have now. As you know, I was not Empress at the time and lacked the full military power that is now available to me to defend this world, she said.

The other part of the answer is that - as Fantilla pointed out - I didn't anticipate the FWA to make this world a military target, she said, using the woman's name, another person that she actually knew. She didn't explicitly state that the FWA had ignored the world up until now. It had already been pointed out by others and it was in the undercurrent of her answer. "They didn't pay attention to you before, I didn't expect them to do so now." Another veiled accusation without saying it outright.

She moved on to answer the human's answer next. This was the trickiest, but she'd already laid the foundation for it previously.

If that's what you choose to do, then I won't stand in your way, she said. I didn't force Felucia to join the Empire years ago, and I won't now either, she said. She had offered protection when no one else did, and everyone in the room knew that if they went out on their own again, they would fall prey to the same pirates that they had for decades before. Over those decades they had suffered worse casualties than even those taken in the recent battle.

The Senator listened intently as the people of Felucia made their concerns known, making sure to focus on them, whilst keeping the Empress in his line of sight so that he could gauge her reaction as well. Initially, the point raised by the first person raised their question - specifically regarding whether or not the Free World’s Alliance only cared about worlds when the Sith took them over. Cal knew the line the Empress would take, her logical discombobulation that for some reason, an Empire that frequently besieged worlds for little to no reason, and firebombed cities for fun, was actually peaceful - and somehow her being here proved it.

Whilst the first question was odd, the second was no less confusing. Secranta appeared to believe that the Sith would protect them. Cal was of the mind to point out that the Sith only ‘protected’ people they could use.

The third questionnaire asked about why their world was a target, and the fourth, a man much after his own heart, asked why Felucia couldn’t just go back to independence.

Cal had to grit his teeth and smile as the Empress answered, lying to them all as she did so. She opened by effectively admitting that now she was Empress she could just take what she wanted, something Cal was quite aware she could, and would do. The holonet had shown that the last time she didn’t get what she wanted, she threw someone out of a window.

Very peaceful, Cal thought, as she continued along to hit out at the Free World’s Alliance for making Felucia, a world on the border of an empire that had firebombed a planet in Alliance space, a military target. Maybe she is believing her own lies? the Senator considered, as she cracked on with the next answer.

He audibly laughed when the Empress suggested that she ‘would not stand in their way’ if Felucia wanted independence.

”Then leave.”

The Senator had, quite simply, had enough.

”Leave Denon as well whilst you’re at it.” he added, turning to face the Empress ”Or did you hope nobody would believe that the Sith invaded Denon as well? If you won’t stand in the way of Felucias people wanting freedom, independence and self-governance, then get back on your ship - and go back to Sith space.”

“Then stay there.”

“Your entire order is steeped in the blood of billions, and to see you stand here before these people, before the Senator for New Alderaan, and have the gall to pretend like it doesn’t matter - like your order is any different now, is astounding.”

“The Free World’s Alliance, gives Freedom.”

He stood square onto the Empress, unbowed by the woman he knew could kill him in an instant.

”We don’t demand armies, taxes, submission from our brothers and sisters in the Free Worlds, we welcome different species, cultures, governments and more - and we do so with open arms.”

“The Sith enslave, torture and murder anyone who stands in their way.”

“One of your own Lords tried it on Ossius, they did it on Denon, and many other worlds. They firebombed Ferrerro into ash for no reason, and they went onto the holonet to tell people, in effect, to submit, or die.”

“Get on your ship.”

“Go back to your tyrannical, blood drenched regime.”

“And stick to one promise you made here today.”

“The people of Felucia, have chosen freedom.”

“So don’t stand in their way with your Imperial lies.”

Senator Starros pointed at her ship and finished ”Leave.”

The people assembled listened as representatives of both the FWA and the Sith Empire spoke. They waited with bated breath along with a healthy mixture of patience and impatience. All the same, they waited and they listened.

Two people spoke after being addressed by the assembled representatives of the people of Felucia and only one of them actually replied when they had been asked questions. Senator Clement was addressed by name, though admittedly with patchy Basic, and stood silent. Although not directly named, Senator Starros made no attempt to engage with the people supposedly in charge who the outcome of the debate even when a question was asked of the FWA.

The Empress of the Sith addressed the questions asked of her. If they were acceptable answers or not remained to be seen but the fact that she had actually answered spoke volumes.

"Owowowowo owowowow oowow. Owoowowowowow oowoowowowowow owoowowwwowo. Wwoowooowo owoowooooon? Secranta owowowow oowow wowown nowon?"

Secranta nodded her head.

"What have you done for me lately? The Sith blew up planets hundreds of years ago and burned down a planet none of us here have ties to. Some of us haven't even heard of it before just now." she declared, challenging the Senators, "The Sith might not have protected us now but they helped us when we needed it before. Only thing they didn't protect us from in recent memory was YOUR invasion, or are we supposed to forget that you marched through our streets with blasters and bombs just cus the Sith have done some morally shitty things. From where we're standing, so have you! The difference is the Empress is at least beating around the bush of an apology; and you're not even bothering your hide to answer questions you've been asked!"

There were mutterings from the rest of the crowd as they began to grow restless. It seemed that Empress Andruil's answers were not as perfect as they could have been but the fact that there had been an attempt to respond to their concerns had gone over well. Fantilla looked furious that they had been ignored, gesturing rapidly as she spoke to one of her fellow militia members in Felucian too quick to be translated by the protocol droids.

Raymond snorted loudly.

"Both of you piss off." he declared, stepping forward boldly, "Your promises are weak when there's evidence of you failing to deliver, Empress. And Senators? If I wanted to watch old overweight men whine, I'd let my Mrs record me complaining when I try to do my exercises."

Some good-natured jeering from the crowd.

"So how about this - both of you fuck off right now. Get the hell off of our planet! Neither of you deserve the people of Felucia's support!"

Two groups are leaning toward Sith, one is undecided and one wants both of you gone. Non-answers and rants about the evils of your opponent are not answered questions. The crowd will vote in ONE WEEK regardless of replies.

Things... could have been going worse. They could have been going better as well. The fact that the Senator launched into a tirade about hating the Sith rather than listening to the people proved her point better than she could have.

While I see you already presume to speak for the entire people of Felucia, I will not be leaving until the votes are cast for that, she said to the Senator, and had nothing more to say to him on the topic.

She let both of the citizens vent their frustrations, some of which were fair and others of which were not.

I understand your frustrations, and I wish I could say that they were all unfounded, she said. Unfortunately, the Sith had lost Felucia, and there was no way to dance around the issue.

But they aren't. I didn't protect you from the FWA, a mistake I won't make again if you choose to return. I now have the resources to protect Felucia from pirates, Alliance invasions, or anything else that may come your way, she said. Times had changed, and she did have far more resources now than she had had when Felucia was invaded.

There was a moment's temptation to use the Shadow to influence their minds ever so slightly in order to be more amenable, but with the puppets of the Jedi here, she didn't dare take the risk.

She addressed the pair who were more resistant and expressed concern. So I pose the question to you: what can the Empire do to help Felucia? she asked. The "publicity stunt" on Denon wasn't just that. They really had expanded jobs and were going to continue to do so. Felucia was a world she genuinely cared for, and she didn't want to see it fail or leave the Empire.

She spoke directly to the man who had stepped boldly forward and told them both to leave. Surely there is something else the Empire can provide other than simply leaving. Were things more prosperous when we weren't here? she asked, a direct and pointed question. They both knew the answer to the question was that things had not been outstanding when they were pirate prey.

What more could be said? Starros left.

In the end the Sith Empress had been willing to answer to her critics, even if she had come across as being somewhat more adept at slinging Dathomiri magics than political statements. That she had answered to her critics at all was a small point in her favour and what she was promising resonated with some of the representatives gathered.

Some of them had been less than enthused by the Sith Empress and the promises of continued membership of the Sith Empire but had been underwhelmed with how little the FWA seemed to care to actually engage with them. And when called on it and requested to answer their concerns a second time, the representative sent by the FWA literally turned their back and walked away.

Though the desire for independence would remain a vocal minority, the majority of those assembled today agreed that Felucia would be better off sticking with the Sith who had engaged in something other than combat with them in good faith, despite reservations over the past.

Perhaps an unexpected result, perhaps not, but the people of Felucia when polled over the next three days would vote to return to the Sith Empire with a majority of 62% in favour of Sith unification, 24% of independence and just 14% for seeking FWA membership.
