Imperial Republica

The Republic had suffered greatly due to its part in the Hundred-Year Darkness, having aided the Jedi in fighting their Dark Exiles across the galaxy. Many lives were lost, along with control of the Mid Rim, and countless resources were spent for ultimately little gain. As the Exiles became the Sith, the Empress Andraste used her considerable talents with her subtle and silver tongue to turn the still recovering Republic slowly against the Jedi.

From treaties of non-aggression to even aid in their war with the Hutt Cartel, the bonds between the Empire and the Republic began to tighten ever so slowly. When the Sith finally came calling, having eclipsed the Republic in military power at the end of the Cartel War, it was only natural that the Republic merge with the Sith else face destruction, much like the Jedi. Thus was born the Imperial Republica, the culmination of a masterful campaign of politics and "diplomacy."

Immediate Aftermath

The tipping point came when the Jedi decided to meet the Sith Empire in combat over the planet of Coruscant, generating outrage over putting a Republic world in danger and validating the decisions that Supreme Chancellor Vincent Deryck had made in the latter days of the Cartel War. The Empire was successful in it's fight thanks to the size of their fleet and the training of their soldiers, wiping out all the Jedi forces that had been assembled to seemingly destroy the monastic order once and for all. The Empress had another goal in mind for the battle, however, and had commanded her Strategist for the fight to prepare for the true coup de grace. Towards the end of the battle part of the Imperial Fleet moved to put the Senate into their crosshairs, the Empress done with the tiresome politics and double talk of the Chancellor and the Senate.

That was when Andraste made her offer, to annex the Republic into the Empire in order to not only help restore the beleaguered nation but also be a part of one of the greatest Empires that the galaxy had ever seen. The Chancellor agreed, knowing that the Empire would destroy the core of the Republic in one quick bombardment if he refused. History still is undecided on whether Vincent Deryck was one of the wisest or most foolish Chancellors due to this choice, as well as whether he truly held the Republic's safety in his heart or was only concerned with his survival.

True to her word, Andraste went out of her way to make the transition of government as smooth as possible. There were protests and riots on planets and among believers in the Jedi or just nationalists in general, daring the Sith to show their true colors and put them down by force to become martyrs. Instead, and thankfully to those remaining Senators of the time, Andraste decided to deal with these insurrections with a velvet glove, though it were covering an iron fist as needed.

As she worked to diplomatically resolved these problems through peace instead of violence the bite of the words of dissension began to disappear. With the aid of the Senators of their respective worlds, many of which were intimidated or threatened into submission, the protests ultimately died down. Despite having been seen as something of a farce at times, the unusual efficiency of the Senate during this transition managed to impress Andraste enough to keep it in place once peace was attained, albeit significantly weakened, as the Imperial Republica was born.

Once the dust of dissension had settled, the Empress ruled supreme from her new throne on Coruscant. She kept the Senate in a diminished capacity, allowing it to regulate interplanetary commerce and similar issues while leaving all important matters, as well as veto power, to the Empress. The clever use of the preexisting bureaucracy, instead streamlining its role and focusing it on more domestic issues, allowed for little instability outside the initial protests of the change.

As for the Grand Army of the Republic, they were integrated with Imperial Forces with minor issues, both being highly trained and subservient. It went without saying that merging of both galactic domains had gone miraculously well, and a semblance of normalcy eventually returned to the Core Worlds and other territories under the Imperial Republica and Sith Empire as a whole.

Evolving Views

Now part of a greater Empire, the Imperial Republica quickly began to rebuild not only from the Battle of Coruscant but from the Hundred-Year Darkness. With an organized government no longer shackled in its former bureaucratic state, along with resources from the former Hutt Cartel, the Empire entered a golden age. A Sith Temple was erected on Coruscant, becoming the throne of Empress Andraste when it was completed and where most force-sensitive found throughout the galaxy trained in the dark side of the Force, willingly or not.

When Andraste passed away, surrounded by her loved ones after a fulfilling life, Emperor Elix proved to be a similar ruler thanks to his upbringing by his father Siris, who had given up his role on the Dark Council to groom his son. As a result, Elix had a well upbringing and inherited his father's own traits and beliefs. He went on to rule with a tighter grip than her mother, now that the fear she once maintained dissipated. But compared to later rulers, he was far more patient with his subjects and retained some popularity in pockets of the Core.

This period of prosperity would lead to the opening of old wounds, however. Before the Hundred-Year Darkness the Republic had been dealing with a divide between human and non-human relations, with the former viewing themselves as superior and relegating the latter group to more menial and less glamorous occupations. The previous war injured the Republic enough for them to put aside their differences enough to work together to rebuild, though now that the reconstruction had finished there was no need for them to keep up the charade.

Many humans who once hid their prejudice now spilled forth to start pushing non-humans further and further from what they had previously found as equal positions to their one-time peers. This seeming superiority over the more alien races would instill a sense of privilege in the human populace of the Imperial Republica, making many quite haughty and proud for their place in the Empire, while leaving their alien counterparts with a bitter taste in their mouths.

Honoring the Fallen

In the years following the Annexation of the Republic, the Empire would still honor the heroes of that time for their prowess in both battle and politics. To this day, survivors of the Hutt Cartel would call a mission going bad "being Barrenfisted" thanks to the efforts of Talos Barrenfist. This superb warrior of the Grand Army of the Republic had inspired his allies and the people of the Republic. The military academy on Anaxes, beside its naval complement, was renamed to the Talos Institute of War in his honor. But over five hundred years, his legacy, like any other, would fade.

In spite of the subterfuge used to incite combat between the Sith and the Cartel, the Empire would recognize the guile of the operative Lex Kyrst and teach her strategies in espionage to future generations of the Imperial Army. Too old for politics at the time, Mori Valorum would also be spared and honored by the Empire for laying the groundwork of the union between the two nations, with the Valorum family remaining in Republica politics for the next generation.

Others who were closely related to Andraste and her Sith Empire were more distinctly extolled, however, in stark contrast to former Republic loyalists. Darth Evandrus, Siris and Kravos are all time-honored names, along with Imperial leaders that followed after in the centuries ahead.

RANKS AND STRUCTURE
K7x67J7.gif

The Imperial Republica has both a thriving military as well as civilian infrastructure, meaning citizens have a variety of choices available to them in the form of occupations. The real difference in the citizens comes from whether one is Force Sensitive or not, as those with the Force and trained in the Academy find doors opened to them that are permanently closed to most others.

In a society that already prides themselves on their nobility, those with the Force are considered the elite of the elite and typically make others know it as often as they can. The prejudice against non-humans holds even here, though, as even those non-humans with the Force find themselves relegated to the lowest positions among their peers, even if they have more power than their human counterparts.

When actively working for the Empire, either with the Force or without, an individual will find themselves with a rank to delineate their place in Imperial Society. In some cases this rank is a loose thing, allowing for a breadth of career choices within the confines of their current standing. As the individual stands out and succeeds, their rank and access to resources will increase in kind, the Empire awarding success in it's name. These ranks are common knowledge, along with the privileges of attaining them, to serve as a goal for those with enough ambition to strive for them.

Sith Acolyte/Imperial Agent

A Sith Acolyte was the first rank a Sith practitioner could achieve once in the service of the Empire. Representing basic control over the Force yet still unproven. They have more prestige than a regular citizen and have access to basic resources, though for any large ventures they need approval from their superiors in the Sith Order. They can usually be found on the front lines of conflicts in the Empire, seeking to prove themselves worthy of advancement and increase their power.

An Imperial Agent was the first rank available for those unable to use the Force but still wanted to serve the Empire. Their specific duty could range greatly, either from serving as a lower-tier officer in the military to working as a scientist or in a civilian company directly aiding their government. Agents usually had one or multiple superiors to report to, whatever their chosen occupation. While expected to take the initiative, any large projects are required to go through their superiors for approval.

Sith Crusader/Imperial Director

Sith Crusaders were recognized members of the SIth Order who stood above their peers, whether by deed or by prowess in combat. Their names became known through the Imperial Republica, serving to honor these exemplars and give lesser Acolytes an example to follow to greatness. Crusaders usually have access to greater resources and even small groups of soldiers or other personnel following them in their ventures. They would also report to and learn from a Sith Lord, an honor most Acolytes could only dream of.

Imperial Directors were members of the Empire that proved true assets, above and beyond the regular agent. DIrectors in the military would usually find themselves in a mid-level command position while those in the civilian sector became leaders of companies or other ventures working to keep the Empire stable and growing. Directors would find themselves with personnel reporting to them while also now reporting to the Moff in charge of whatever circle they were working in. This level was usually seen as the way for non-Force Sensitives to enter the politics of the Imperial Republica.

Sith Lord/Imperial Moff

A Sith Lord, allowing one to choose a Sith Name preceded by their Lord title, was seen as one of the most powerful practitioners of the Force outside of the Dark Council. As an attempt to separate from the older traditions of the Old Empire, the SIth Lords of the Imperial Republica no longer used the title 'Darth' for this level of power, preferring the more noble and regal title currently used. SIth Lords were known through other factions for their strength and ability, able to command a sizeable force of those of lower Ranks as needed. Sith Lords usually followed one member of the Dark Council as their Master, one last obstacle to the highest echelons of the Empire.

Imperial Moffs were non-Force Users who had shown enough potential and skill to have made it to the upper ranks of the Empire, finally breaking into the political scene. Moffs usually controlled either a planet or some important sphere of influence, with larger occupations like the military having multiple Moffs for different divisions. Moffs could easily raise a force of lower-ranked personnel for their ventures and reported to a single Grand Moff that oversaw the actions of them and other Moffs in their circles. In some cases this Grand Moff is a member of the Dark Council, offering the potential for greater access to chances for growth and prestige.

Imperial Courtier/Grand Moff

An Imperial Courtier was the undisputed leader of a section of the Empire, earning a unique title determined by the sphere of influence they had control over. An example of Court Positions available for the Imperial Republica are as follows:

Defense of the Empire: High Praetorian
Expansion and Diplomacy: High Archon
Imperial Intelligence: High Executioner
Law and Justice: High Judicator
Military Offense: War Master
Military Strategy: Imperial Strategos

The only person that any of these individuals would follow would be the Emperor himself, though their own names would be known throughout the galaxy. While it was courtesy to talk to the member of the Imperial Court of a different sphere of influence when using their resources, in times of emergency any Courtier could command any part of the Empire unless the Emperor expressly forbade the action. The Emperor was the one who would choose what sphere of influence the Imperial Courtier controlled, meaning there could be any number of positions in the Court as the Emperor could come up with.

The Grand Moff is similar to an Imperial Courtier, usually serving directly under one if not in control of a fair-sized swathe of Imperial Territory. It is not uncommon for a Grand Moff to even be one of the Court itself if their skill and worth are enough for the position, even without the Force. They typically answer only to the Emperor or their respective member of the Court, also known throughout the galaxy for their accomplishments and political power. Grand Moffs can have armies and the resources of their systems under their control, with anything else they need usually within their grasp via petition to the Emperor.
