DESCRIPTION
The Imperial II-class star destroyer, sometimes known as the Impstar-Deuce, is a massive warship once manufactured by the venerable Kuat Drive Yards, and is indeed one of the most powerful ships of its kind ever built. The successor to the widely produced Imperial I, the Imperial II would go on to become one of the most visible symbols of the Empire's military might.

The Imperial II is a doonium behemoth, a refinement of the excellent Imperial I which kicked off the Empire's vast naval modernization program during the first years of the New Order. Thickly armored, well shielded and equipped with enough firepower to bombard a large city into a molten lake from orbit, it was - in its day - seen as a massive over-correction from Republic-era trends, which created vessels that were relatively weak in pitched ship-to-ship engagements. The Imperial II, with its hundreds of heavy turbolasers mounted in casemates and turrets scattered across its upper hull, could shred almost any other capital ship of its day. Though it lacked much in the way of anti-starfighter armaments, this was rarely an issue, as the Imperial I carried a significant starfighter and starbomber complement of its own. Those attempting to simply flee the star destroyer were not safe either; it boasted 10 tractor beam emitters, and could draw ships as large as a corvette into its massive ventral hangar bay.

Not content with merely being a warship, the Imperial II was able to carry up to 10,000 passengers, usually stormtroopers, who could be used for boarding operations, or more often for ground assaults and occupations of small planets. Some star destroyers were issued prefabricated garrison structures which could be set up on rebellious worlds.

The main difference between the Imperial I and the Imperial II, aside from certain refinements in hull design, is the latter's ability to carry two heavy freighters in place of the former's complement of combat repulsorcraft. It also has a smaller minimum crew requirement.

Though tens of thousands were built, large numbers of Imperial IIs were destroyed during the Galactic Civil War, with many of those that survived to be passed into New Republic inventory being subsequently scrapped when the New Republic Navy was downsized. Many of those that were retained were subsequently lost in the Hosnian Cataclysm, when most of the Republic Fleet was wiped out along with the system itself by beams from Starkiller Base.

This is not to say that none are left, of course. In spite of their attrition over the decades, Imperial IIs can still be found. Gone are the days of vast fleets of these dagger-shaped craft blotting out the sun over Coruscant in Empire Day naval reviews, however; mostly these craft are kept by the defensive navies of particularly wealthy sectors, and even in such cases, just one such ship will usually form the backbone of an entire fleet. Though they have been modernized over the years, Imperial IIs are still among the most resource-intensive ships ever put into service, and require the equivalent of a mid-tier planet's gross domestic product in annual maintenance costs, to say nothing of any repairs that might be required after actual combat. Despite their awesome destructive power, few navies are willing to risk a star destroyer in anything like a fair fight.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Imperial II-class star destroyers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or particularly wealthy government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To create a standard star destroyer.

RESTRICTIONS
Imperial II-class star destroyers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.
