DESCRIPTION
The IG-89 bounty droid is a model of bounty hunting and security droid manufactured by Holowan Mechanicals. Part of the IG series, a line of semi-specialized combat and security automatons, the IG-89 was designed shortly after the Galactic Civil War as a successor to the disastrous IG-88 line, the prototypes of which were endowed with a powerful self-preservation subroutine which caused them to slaughter the Holowan scientists who built them only moments after activation. With its top designers reduced to so much carbonized meat, Holowan designed the IG-89 to be powerful, but also exceedingly loyal to its owners and - crucially - its manufacturer.

The IG-89 is designed as an efficient, competent combat unit, able to engage multiple enemies at once with both ranged and melee weapons of various types. Like most IG-series droids, IG-89s move with stiff, jerky motions, but are exceedingly precise, with excellent targeting capabilities even on the move. In combat against most other stock droids, such as a member of the YD series or the famed BX commando droid of the Clone Wars, an IG-89 would almost certainly come out on top, barring unforseen circumstances and any experience the other droids may have.

Notably, IG-89s are designed with absolute loyalty to their owners and to their manufacturer. They are programmed never to allow themselves to captured intact, protecting their owners from implication by destroying the evidence, although this is also to protect the sophisticated, proprietary technology which comprises their systems. To this end, IG-89s are equipped with a self-destruct charge about as powerful as a standard concussion grenade, which they will use if they are cornered or immobilized. Destroying the IG-89's cognitive matrix - located in the unit's head - before they have a chance to activate the charge will prevent detonation, although they can also be talked down.

IG-89s have been in production for some years, but are still favored as bounty hunters and body guards. IG-89s can also be programmed as assassin droids, although this is highly illegal under interstellar law.

LEGALITY
Restricted. IG-89s, like all bounty droids, are subject to extensive licensing for ownership by a faction or individual, and receive a great deal of scrutiny from authorities.

INTENT
To create a standard bounty droid model.

RESTRICTIONS
Characters based on this droid model will be subject to extra scrutiny during role-play. IG-89s are not compatible with droid upgrades.
