DESCRIPTION
The IFST-17 was an attempt by Incom-Freitek to leverage the renown of their ship designs to introduce a Light Courier to the market. Borrowing the off-center cockpit design more common in CEC freighters, the IFST-17 was intended to be a little more than just a ship that gets the owner from point A to B. The cargo space taking up 2/3 of the portside area also contains a refresher, small autochef, and is easily modified so as to allow for user customization. The space can be used for storage, but is also meant to be used as a fully functional living area, with some owners completely converting the cargo area into a flying apartment.

Most unusually for a ship of its class was the requirement for an astromech droid to be plugged into the wall socket behind the cockpit to fly properly or use the hyperdrive, a cost saving measure by the company that was advertised as a way to keep the ship affordable for potential purchasers. The ship's only armament was a single-barreled laser cannon that nonetheless provided fairly stiff discouragement to hostile ships, especially considering the light cargo capacity of the vessel. While it was shielded, the generator was a lighter model common to star couriers. An anti-personnel repeating blaster could deploy from the connecting section in front of the landing ramp to defend from intruders. Either turret could be controlled by either a socketed astromech or the pilot in the cockpit.

Between the light shields, armament, and lack of a dedicated navicomputer, the ship's Incom designed power systems had energy to spare. This was used to power the ship's high output thrusters, with both the cockpit itself and the port section having their own dedicated power, engine systems, and four thrusters each, which resulted in somewhat ludicrous levels of thrust. The ship's hyperdrive was located in the same area as the cockpit's dedicated engine systems. As such, in the event of emergency, the cockpit could be detached and still escape into hyperspace so long as both the hyperdrive and socketed astromech remained functional.

While so detached, the cockpit module was completely unarmed and unshielded, but maintained the same speed and maneuverability level of the base ship, with consideration for its size.

It wasn't the most popular offering from Incom-Freitek, its unusual design choices and combination of features finding only niche interest, resulting them being forced to lower the price and levels of production. Though not terribly common, the IFST-17 can be spotted across the galaxy, ferrying wanderer types through the stars.

LEGALITY
Legal. Star couriers such as the IFST-17 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To introduce an unusually designed Star Skiff to the forum inspired by a bit of concept art as an alternative to other ships with similar stats.

RESTRICTIONS
Due to the very high power requirements of the IFST-17's dual sublight engines, any aftermarket modification that lowers MGLT doubles that penalty and it cannot mount more than a single barreled top gun. Without an astromech socketed, the IFST-17 suffers penalties as described here.
