DESCRIPTION
The I-7 Howlrunner is a fast starfighter which bears the distinction of being one of the last combat spacecraft accepted into service by the Galactic Empire before its military defeat at the Battle of Jakku. Designed by the Incom Corporation, which at that time was owned by the Imperial government, the Howlrunner was reportedly inspired a dangerous predator from the planet Kamar. True to its inspiration, the Howlrunner is a deadly pack hunter, designed to swarm enemy formations and overwhelm them with laser fire. After TIE production lines were overrun by advancing Rebel forces, large numbers were acquired by the retreating Empire as replacements for expended units, and gained a deadly reputation in the hands of Imperial pilots.

The I-7 Howlrunner is a simple, rectangular craft, equipped with a pair of fixed medium laser cannons and able to reach 105 MGLT, just faster than a standard TIE/LN. Unlike the TIE, however, the Howlrunner is equipped with life support and a deflector shield, allowing it to weather damage which would destroy most TIEs. A common tactic was for hundreds of Howlrunners to attack in a swarm, powering through enemy fire with shields raised. This was as much to mask a shortcoming of the design as anything else; individual Howlrunners were equipped with sub-standard targeting sensors, and so they often relied on volume of fire to get the job done.

Howlrunners are fairly uncommon these days, but they can still be found, mainly in remote systems and in the employ of mercenaries and pirates.

Restricted. I-7 Howlrunners are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
