DESCRIPTION
Hyperdrive Docking Rings are advanced forms of more basic and commonly available hyperdrive sleds, and enable fighters and other similarly sized craft to travel through hyperspace without hitching a ride on much larger craft. They come in numerous makes and models to adapt to different makes and models of small craft, and some have come to incorporate additional features, but most operate on the same basic principle. The device basically consists of a large ring shaped frame with bulky pods housing a small anti-matter reactor, nav-computer, and hyperdrive unit, as well as docking clamps and computer interface-adapters. Combined, these systems allow a docked fighter to calculate and make short hyperspace jumps, though it greatly reduces maneuverability at sublight speeds (-15MGLT). The ring can be detached, and its onboard systems anchor it in place until its owner returns.

Typical rings house an x4 rated hyperdrive. Due to the normal limitations on fighter craft consumables- primarily recycled breathable atmosphere and fuel- most hyperdrive rings carry "consumable pods" to replenish the ships resources, increasing its range and flight time by up to 48 hours. Given the time-frames involved in interstellar travel, this still makes for a miserable trip- hours and hours cramped in a 2-meter durasteel coffin, unable to stretch out, munching on spare protein-bars, relieving yourself in the waste-recycling system tucked under your seat.

LEGALITY
Legal everywhere, though fighters need special licensing or be affiliated with legitimate armed groups when in Republic space.

INTENT
This upgrade that allows loners and fighter pilot characters to travel (albeit uncomfortably) the hyperspace lanes in their individual craft.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Hyperdrive rings are expensive, high end tech, and many models often incorporates experimental electronics and equipment. They are difficult to acquire, though some militaries have outfitted (at great expense) small strike squadrons of fighters for surprise raids and hit-and-run attacks. 2-3 threads with significant risk or expense encountered should be appropriate.
