<div align="center">Should Huckleberry Finn Be Banned?
Written by Aaron/Bo</div>

Today in Taylor, MI, a young black girl who attends J.F.K. High School protested the reading of Huckleberry Finn aloud. Her voice was heard and the teacher changed the assignment from reading it aloud in class, to independant reading at home.

Yet still, the young girl and her mother are pushing to have the book banned from the teaching requirements in all of Taylor.

Is she right or wrong in doing this?

I voted no. Just 'cause you find something offensive doesn't mean you should hinder everyone else's education.

Indeed. I'm being forced to Read "The Chocolate War" and it has Sexual references, Some of which are clear. For example, Chapter 3 mentions the main character buying a Playboy Magazine and going into the Bathroom with it. Fill in the blanks from there.

Now, the girl I mentioned above is throwing a fit because the book mentions the N word over 100 times. The Chocolate War, however, mentions every single cuss word I can think of(save the F-Bomb) well over 250 times.

I wasn't aware the United States felt the need to destroy the fundamental right of freedom of speech. Yes I know it's used as a teaching tool in class, but still. It's a great piece of literature, not a historical document with proven facts and the like. So yes, like Dunc said, you can't ban something just because you find it offending.

It's people like this that flip out when you're reading a book in the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds and there are people taking opium. I think I need a drink.

"Niger" actually means black in both latin and Spanish.

Hmmm interesting. I would say no. If they really want an assignment that won't offend but can still include Huckleberry Finn then maybe have a choice of books for each student to read.

I would agree with that. It would make things harder if a teacher was planning on having an in-class discussion where everyone shares their thoughts, but it's still a simple way of giving the people what they want.

Wait... why would she want it banned? I've never read it so I wouldn't know, however I'm inclined to vote that it shouldn't be banned.

It's got lots of racist words and terms in it.

Now I am to my knowledge the only guy off any black descent.

And I've read of mice and men and this book...Both full of many racist terms.

Doesn't bother me so the girl is being stupid or to sensitive

Weak?

I hardly think shes weak for being sensitive about this

Are you black?

Have you ever been called a racist term?

Maybe this girl is particuly sensitive for good reason.

Or maybe she is just a mummie's girl....Who knows

Americans have this thing that if something bothers you it's because you're weak. I hate American Protestant culture. x.x

Sorry, I just get really bloody annoyed with these people who want to censor things from the world just because they're offended. And no I'm not being racist either.
