The Taungs

History

The Taungs originally hailed from Coruscant many thousands of years before the Republic came into existence. Their violent nature saw that the Taungs fought many conflicts against the human inhabitants of the planet, which finally resulted in their expulsion from the Coruscant into the cold depths of space. The Taungs eventually managed to settle on a planet in the Outer Rim.

The Taungs found their new homeworld to be an incredibly harsh environment, in which city wide beasts called Mythosaurs hunted Taungs wherever they came across the planets newest inhabitants. The cruel whether had made the planet virtually uninhabitable for most species. The Taungs, however, excelled, as it was a perfect mirror for the Taungs themselves, with its war like ecosystem destroying the devastating Mythosaurs and forcing them into extinction. This was due to their leader, Mandalore, who in honor of his achievement had the Taungs homeworld named after him, and the people now called themselves the Mandalorians.

The thousands of years that followed the extinction of the Mythosaurs saw the Taungs consolidate their hold as the planet’s dominate species, building great cities of bone out of the Mythosaurs giant skeletons and moving across the surface of the planet.

Despite managing to find the planet Mandalore using hyperdrive technology many thousands of years before, the Taungs concept of technology and its uses was fairly limited compared to the rest of the galaxy during this time. This slowed the Taung's exploration into nearby systems, and moved their influence not much further than beyond the Mandalore sector.

The Taungs thirst for combat was almost at a breaking point, with the odd destruction of pirates and smugglers doing little to quench the lust for battle the Taungs experienced.

However, this would change very soon..

The Hutt Empire, at the behest of Hutt Chairman Gorrbag after hearing rumors of a long avoided system by smugglers and other undesirables, sent a heavily armed exploration team to find out why and what caused the system to be avoided. Many feared some kind of gravitational distortion or other special anomaly.

Six months followed with no word from the exploration team, other then a garbled transmission speaking of a strange aggressive native species of humanoids. The Hutts responded with sending an entire battle group into the sector, which resulted in the Taungs managing to fight the group to a standstill, despite being heavily outnumbered and technologically inferior. The Hutts, being creatures of opportunity, saw an opportunity that far outweighed the alternative of having to waste considerable resources destroying the Taungs.

After a great deal of effort resulting in many deaths, the Hutts managed to gain a audience with the then-Mandalore, praising the Taungs for therir battle prowess and offering them an opportunity. They showed them holograms of a group which called themselves the Republic, a giant galactic body with a military which was well trained and professional, along with a mysterious group of warriors called Jedi. Despite regarding the Hutts as disgusting abominations and regarding their forces as nothing more than an undisciplined rabble of undesirables, the Taungs could not possibly give up such an opportunity. This was a chance to fight in a battle that would be remembered for all off time. The Hutts went though a process of what they called “culturally uplifting” the Taungs, improving their technology and ability to wage war in the modern theaters of war. The Taungs grudgingly accepted and were integrated into the Hutt army, and their first tastes of battle against the Republic was everything the Taungs hoped for.

This would be a worthy foe.
