Zan coughed violently as he climbed out from under the massive engine of the beached starship. It was a WTK-85A light freighter, normally a very reliable ship now spewing a steady stream of putrid black smoke into the clear blue sky.
"Well, we're karked." He quite bluntly informed his crewmate Edie as he wiped the sweat from his brow. He looked out over the bleak landscape of the Jundland Wastes as he continued speaking. "Stabilizer's fried. I try and fire her up as is and the port engine will take off without us." He looked back at her, biting his lip. "We're stuck here until it's replaced, and they're not exactly cheap." Had they managed to drop off their current cargo they would have had enough credits and then some to buy a replacement legitimately. But a run in with some Hutt Cartel gangsters had forced them to change course. Zan knew they were short on time too. The Hutts owned Tatooine, and wouldn't appreciate smugglers trying to do business in their territory without giving them their cut. They had to resolve this problem in a timely matter, or their new business venture would be ending very prematurely.
"Mos Eisley isn't far. We could head in and see if we could scrape together the parts we need while Zap watches the ship." He shrugged his shoulders. "Either that or try to flag down some Jawas. What do you think?" It was an odd question to ask considering they really didn't have a choice in the matter. Still Edie had proven to be a resourceful woman in the short time Zan had been working with her, and well traveled. Perhaps she had some insight about the planet he lacked.
