Emryc wasn’t even sure why he was hunting this particular artifact. He didn’t have the blood of a Drast in him, and he had little desire to approach the only Drast he knew. Nevertheless, he was naturally drawn to ancient relics - especially ones tied to the ancient Sith royal family. His focus on ISC had kept him away from artifact hunting. Many months had passed since the Firrerre incident. ISC was at war with the Syndicates, and he found a small bit of down time to go pursue his own interests.

He knew that he couldn’t be obviously Sith on the planet as Renfry likely wanted this diplomatically converted. Instead of his trademark armor, he was adorned in civilian clothing to look like a mercenary with a mask around the lower hemisphere of his face. This particular area was known to be a haven of bounty hunters and other types of criminals so no one questioned anyone for hiding their face.

His silver eyes gleamed above the mask as Emryc ventured into the dusty, poverty stricken town. This was as far as his clues led him. A man of his size often had a tough time blending in, but out here he just looked like another tall oaf ready to deck someone in the face over a few credits.

There was an old saloon ahead of him that was evidently frequented by the slimy old man that may have spotted the trinket last. Andraste’s pendant should have been preserved, but of course it passed through many greasy hands at this point.

Emryc sidestepped as a man riding a falthier almost ran him over, kicking up a bunch of dust.

“Watch it, you thick fuck!” The man yelled out behind him as he rode away. The half Sephi watched for a moment before the Force coiled around a tree branch to lower it the slightest bit. The falthier kept going as the man’s face ran right into the branch, making him bodily fly right off the beast to collide with the ground.

Emryc stared blankly before turning back towards his destination - the saloon.

It had been a long journey to the Outer Rim, and Cin was now finally enjoying the fruits of his labor. He was taking the night to relax, drinking at a local cantina with other space-goers. There was the distinct smell of spice in the chamber as he stepped in, stepping through a thin layer of foggy smoke. A hookah hose near him erupted with smoke as its user took it out of his mouth and blew a cloud big enough to engulf Cinere's lower half. He stepped past, to a booth in the back.

"Spot's taken, bossman," barked a Trandoshan sitting nearby. Cin craned his whole body to look toward the stranger, the eyes of his helmet bearing deep into the man. He was dressed like someone not to be messed with, a real elite space-faring gun-for-hire. He'd even gone as far as to get a Peacemaker pistol and hang it on his belt, his lightsabers both hidden deep in a secret pocket. For all intents and purposes, he exuded the aura of someone who took no bullshit. So he ignored the Trandoshan.

He sat down in the booth and the man shrugged his shoulders and turned back to his ale. That's right.

Cinere kicked his feet up on the table in front of him and tipped his hat a little lower. He slid down a portion of his mask, the one covering his mouth, his face remaining hidden. Then, he light a cigarette and took a deep huff, blowing smoke off toward the ceiling. It danced in the dim lighting, slowly and elegantly floating toward the vents. A bartender came by, took his order. And now, Cinere waited for his drink, completely unaware of who's spot he was sitting in.

Emryc had to duck slightly to enter the cantina, already smelling the all too familiar spice. From his days of dealing, he could already tell this was low quality shit diluted with sugars and other natural materials. The thought brought a faint grin behind the mask as he walked inside, looking around for a moment. He felt a few eyes on him - looking like a professional bodybuilder often had that effect. Emryc looked like one of those dumb henchmen some skinny little villain unleashed on others to collect owed money. And the half Sephi was happy to play the part.

He made his way over towards the designated area where the old man was thought to frequent. Instead of finding his contact, he spotted some mook with a soup bowl on his head. Emryc’s gaze fixed on the man for a few seconds before he strode over, casting a cursory glance at his feet on the table before looking at him.

“You Kab Shon?” Emryc asked. While this man didn’t match the old man’s description - the bottom hemisphere of his face looked a bit too delicate to be that of some old wrinkly geezer’s - it didn’t make any difference to Emryc as long as he got answers.

A man the size of a Wookie stepped into the cantina, and Cin spared him a glance. Alarm bells went off in his gut, but he suppressed them. Gut feelings weren't always accurate, even if you have the Force--or so he reasoned with himself. His eyes grew just a little bit wider as he saw the man approach his table, but his mask covered this change of expression.

He blinked as the question was asked. "Yessir, I am." Clear, deliberate. Convincing. He was cool--as a cucumber--talking then taking another puff of the cigarette and ashing it. "Had a change of...disguise, after an incident recently." He was on fire. No one could call his bluff.

But they didn't have to.

"Please take a sea--" he was cut short.

Unbeknowst to the two men, a brawl had been brewing in the other corner of the bar as they were talking. Two rival gangs had found each other and clashed, then were thrown out of the bar. Unfortunately, they returned with reinforcements to flush out their rivals. And the two men--"Kab Shon" and the muscular stranger--were about to be caught up in a shootout in a cantina on some backwater back-of=the=drawer desert world in the Outer Rim. Things were about to heat up.

Emryc could sense a whirlwind of emotions in the other man, chief of them all a hint of panic. Whether it was from the mere sight of Emryc or the fact that the man was full of bantha shit remained to be seen. His eyes didn’t betray anything, the silvers staring with a piercing frost as he considered the man’s words. Emryc shrugged and moved to sit down when commotion erupted behind them. Blasterfire rang out at once and Emryc cursed inwardly, remembering that he was hiding his Force sensitive abilities here.

Without a word, he shoved Kab Shon’s feet off the table and flipped it on its side to provide cover. Emryc crouched down behind the table, looking around for any weapons to use. Admittedly, he hadn’t banked on needing any and he was worthless with a blaster. He glanced up at Kab, “Look, I need some information,” He stated flatly, apparently unconcerned by the chaos erupting around them, “I’m looking for-” Emryc ducked as a barrage of blaster bolts barely missed his head.

The half Sephi grumbled to himself and dropped to the ground, army crawling towards more cover. He looked over to spot Kab, “HEY stop squirreling away, I need you!” He growled at the other man, enthusiastically crawling towards him as fast as possible while avoiding blaster bolts, thrown chairs and tossed patrons. He barely missed a lady throwing a frying pan out of nowhere. Glasses and other utensils appeared to bounce loudly off Kab's soup bowl hat.

Truth be told, Cinere had no idea what possessed him in the moments leading up to the chaos. In his excitement about the role he was playing, he really got into it. As blaster fire rung out, he muttered something in what appeared to be Huttese which he didn't even speak, and threw himself down before the other man could even react. He was on the ground as the table flipped, and the man found himself a distance away. Kab--well, Cinere--wasn't about to stick around and keep playing the role, so he was moving slowly toward the conflict, eager to disappear and fade into anonymity. And then the man called out for him, and he rolled his eyes hard.

Though others have laughed about his helmet, calling it a "soup bowl," Kab--ahem, Cinere--loved it because of its practicality in events like barfights. While others would be getting their eyes gouged out with oskra forks flying around, he was completely protected, even by a shot of blaster=fire. So it was Kab who had the laugh in the end.

He was snapped back to reality and found himself behind cover. Cinere grabbed his shiny peacemaker from his belt like a real frontier ranger and blew on it before flipping it forward. He ducked his head out and aimed 2 shots. Both found their mark in two separate targets, hitting two men directly in the forehead. In the distance, an instrument was knocked over and hit in just the correct way to pluck out a few chords, a weak and thin fading thwung thwung thwung and a distant whistle at the end could be heard.

And then he was back behind the cover.

Emryc watched as Kab shot up like some Holomovie action space cowboy and prepared to fire his blaster. His stance and level of confidence would suggest his man parts were as tall as Emryc. Preef Callo had nothing on this guy as he stood there in all his glory pointing his blaster and firing off two bolts.

Unfortunately, Kab had been in a cantina clouded by spice. As a result, he had been suffering a contact high and was far more drugged than he could have known just then. He certainly fired the bolts, but one found purchase in the ass of the cantina owner’s wife. The other hit the henchman of a gang boss right on the hand. Apparently both were very critical and important figures as the commotion suddenly stopped as everyone whirled around to stare in Kab’s direction.

Also unfortunately for Emryc, this was about when he caught up to the soup hat man. He was standing there slightly elevated from his crouch, frozen as he stared back at the entire cantina looking at them. Barkeep’s wife angrily pointed a frying pan in Kab and Emryc’s direction and shrieked at the top of her lungs.

“GET THEM!!!”

“Them?” Emryc called out, “I’m not with this idio-” He ducked again as blaster bolts rang out. His fate was sealed. He was in the same boat as the colossal dumbass next to him.

The half Sephi had no time to take his rage out on Kab, focused instead on an escape. He rose up and charged forth out the back door, expecting it to be an exit. The door opened to reveal a fenced in mud pit with a bunch of pigs. Emryc’s forwarded momentum meant he slipped and tripped right into the mud, soup hat man no doubt following suit.

Thanks to the spice smoke in the air, not many people actually saw where his shots went, and Cinere was none-the-wiser of the possibility of them going wide, so all was well, in his heart. Unfortunately, the people shot noticed and were understandably vocal about it.

At least he was still good at dodging. Bolts flew past his head, and he remained intact all throughout. Cin didn't risk trying to fire another shot. Instead, he grumbled and followed the stranger out the back door, tripping because of the incredible idiot in front of him. He fell right over on top of the man and both fell down into the mud, getting splattered and lathered in it. Cin wrestled with a foreign shape for a few moments before he realized what the writhing mass was, and he scrambled up but fell back down as the massive frame of the giant man was now on top of him.

And so it was found, unfortunately, that both men had indeed fallen on a pig. A quite feisty one, who had gotten stuck on them and they on each other.

"GHHHWWIIWIIIIIII" it squealed at them.

To say that a neatfreak like Emryc was mortified at being in a mud pit was an understatement. This was further exacerbated by the fact that he somehow managed to land partially on an angry pig. On top of that, Kab was now wrestling around blindly. Pig, half Sephi and soup hat man struggled in all directions, further coated in mud till they were all unrecognizable. The only reason they weren’t shot to bits was because a particularly large Gamorrean accidentally got wedged in the doorway and blocked it for everyone else trying to shove through.

At the end of the scramble Emryc found himself atop Kab. However, the giant pig that looked as if it had rancor DNA in it angrily shrieked at them. As it charged at them, Emryc acted on instinct - he grabbed soup hat man and yanked his head up so the top of his helmet faced the pig. The half Sephi used his weight to keep the man from moving or breaking free, convinced his brilliant plan would work.

Luckily for them both, the pig collided directly with the helmet and looked slightly dazed. This may have also meant that Kab was likely dazed too, but that was hardly his concern. Using this window of opportunity, Emryc rolled off the other man and stumbled towards the fence, almost slipping a few times along the way. He almost escaped entirely before he remembered he still needed the Kab guy.

“Move it!” He shouted to the other man, gesturing for him to follow. Emryc had very few options in tracking down the pendant after this disaster and he needed the only lead he had.

Meanwhile, the gangs were spilling out through the front entrance of the cantina, everyone armed and ready to pick off the two men.

The ensuing commotion resembled a shot from holo-cartoons, the men and the pig kicking around in the mud, a tangle of legs and arms and hooves. Cin found the weight off him lift and was suddenly facing the floor from a distance, hanging over it held by the man. He tried to writhe his way out, but was unable to, and could only listen in horror as the squeals of the pig zoomed closer, until he felt a thud slam into his helmet, followed by one more squeak from the animal, which promptly passed out cold, likely due to head trauma.

Cinere was okay, thank you very much, because helmets exist to protect your head. A bit shaken up by the sudden burst of motion and the clash with the animal, he stood up and didn't even bother trying to dust himself off. Covered in a nice layer of mud, he turned to look toward the door and found the pursuers currently making their way outside. A hulking Gamorrean attempted to bust through the door but only managed to create a bottleneck. He was promptly shoved out by an angry mob of brawl-goers.

So he turned on his heel and ran with the man, the two making their way through the valley that the outpost had been built on. Unfortunately for them, there was no way to go but forward, unless they wanted to try their hand at navigating the complicated cavern systems they could enter through the various holes in the rock. Deciding quickly as shapes began congregating on the top of the valley, Cin ducked into one of the holes, presumably followed by the other guy. They were now in a small cave, with what seemed to be a little camp set up--a sleeping bag, put-out firepit, and a few belongings stored in a small backpack. Cinere reached inside and pulled out a blaster pistol, which he handed to the stranger. There was nothing else of use in the bag, besides some ammunition, but that was okay. Now they were prepared.

"They're closing in, fast. There's no way to go but down, and I doubt you'd like to get stuck in the core of some backwater desert planet, so the only thing we can do is shoot our way out," he declared to his new accomplice. He conveniently left out any mention of their meeting and what it was for, because there was no reason to dig himself an even deeper hole. Then again, if this guy proved to be troublesome, Cinere supposed he could just shoot him and lightsaber his way out.

As if on cue, a voice rung out outside, amplified by a helmet device.

"End of the road, boys! Now step outside slowly and throw away your blasters an' maybe you get to live another day--in the brig!"

Cinere spared a look outside and three blaster bolts whizzed over his head as he ducked back in very quickly.

Emryc stared blankly at the other man as he shoved a blaster in his hand. For all the ways he was exceptionally skilled with hand to hand and the saber, blasters were something he simply was not skilled with. He had half a mind to shoot Kab with it and hand over the body - it was Kab they were all wanting, right?

His pros and cons analysis was cut short as blasterfire came their way again. Emryc popped up, aimed and fired. He managed to hit someone, mostly because there were so many people and not because he aimed. Emryc glanced up again after a volley of bolts came back at them. He did a subtle use of the Force, making one of them topple over and randomly faceplant. This made a few people look over quizzically which would give Kab a chance to pick off a few more.

Emryc ducked back into the hole and glared at the other man, “We’re going to run out of ammo way before they do. We have no choice but to go deeper in and hope for another way out,” The desire to pummel the man repeatedly over the head was rising to the surface, but he quelled it for now.

With that, Emryc pressed deeper into the cave, looking for a path that would allow them to escape. The passages got darker and it was difficult to see. He began to wonder if he could get away with using the Force after knocking out the other man. Emryc kept shooting glances over at Kab, once again considering his options.

“You are Kab Shon, right?” He asked abruptly out of the blue, murder in his tone.

The man was no stormtrooper with a blaster, but he managed to hold his ground and even shoot a person without getting his head blown off. Cinere was pleasantly surprised that he won't be dealing with dead weight. He considered arms training to be a very important exercise for any Sith training regime, though others disagreed.

Dust rained down on them from the top of the cave as blaster fire slammed into it, showering them with small rocks. The mountain would hold, but it was going to bother them all throughout. Cinere was just about to turn around and pick off a few more enemies when the man in front of him did something that caused him to furrow his brows. The hand gesture was accompanied by a push in the Force that Cinere felt as well. Another layer of mystery was added to this man, but he knew better than to mention it. Instead, he shoot 3 of the outsiders back to back, one bolt to the chest of each. All three fell at the same time, collapsing in a heap. A tumbleweed rolled through the valley.

Then he was back inside and following the idiot who thought that going deeper into the caverns was a good idea. If this was a Sith mission, perhaps Cinere would have enjoyed it, but having to pretend to be someone else and ignoring the Force presence in an area was one of the most annoying things there could be.

He was not a dumbass. He could see the way the guy was turning ever so slightly to glare at him from the corner of his eye. Cinere knew that he was going to get found out and then potentially have to fight his way out, and his body tensed in anticipation, but his mind remained calm.

"No," he replied as they headed deeper below-ground. His hand gripped the blaster he was holding tightly. "I have no fucking idea who Kab Shon is." His voice was loud in the silent caves, and it bounced around the walls, echoing everything repeatedly. This added a not-so-wanted comedic effect to the otherwise extremely tense and potentially dangerous situation. Of course, both men probably noticed it, but had to pretend they didn't to the other or else risk breaking the tension and making it awkward. Or maybe Cinere was just socially anxious and had to analyze every situation closely.

"I just hope you're not a Jedi," he bit back, preparing for any standoff as they walked.

The echoing certainly didn’t help matters as he angrily asked his question. As they kept plodding forth, the man’s answer gave Emryc pause. As if to add to the dramatic effect, the sentence repeated back to give the horrifying reveal that he was with some imposter. Not only was he not Kab Shon, but he didn’t know who he was. When the man casually remarked hoping Emryc wasn’t a Jedi, that was when he snapped.

He moved blindingly fast for a man his size as he whirled around to slam the other man back against the wall behind him. One of Emryc’s hand was around his neck, the other had pinned the wrist holding the blaster next to him on the wall. The half Sephi glared at the man, allowing him to see the frosty silvers tinged with yellow.

“I’m far worse than a Jedi,” He growled, which of course echoed again, “I helped get your worthless ass out of that cantina because I needed information. You were in Kab Shon’s seat, so you better fucking start giving me the intel I need on the silver hawk pendant,” That’s how it had come to be known in some circles, and it was how Kab Shon was associated with it.

Emryc couldn’t keep the other man pinned long as the wall behind him gave away. Having a 260 lbs man slam a 165 lbs man against a wall tended to bulldoze right through weak tunnel walls. This would make them both tumble backwards as the wall gave away and forced them to fall a level below.

And the standoff did indeed come. But Cinere was no idiot--he'd seen it coming from a mile away.

VWUSH

They were bathed in red light as Cinere's lightsaber flew to his hands and activated as the man's hand flew to his neck. The stranger would feel the heat of it even though it was not touching him; the lightsaber ignited so that the tip of it was mere centimeters away from his throat, fitting considering his hand was on Cinere's neck. One wrong move and there would be a 260 pound corpse to deal with, but that wasn't a problem. The blaster clattered to the floor uselessly from Cinere's pinned hand. He would not need it now. All attention was on his lightsaber, held protectively between the two. They were at a standstill now, both men forgetting the danger outside, the mob approaching that had just entered the cave where they did. The two only had a few minutes if they stayed there.

"I'll take the odds," he growled. None was able to make another move though, because the two fell through the wall. Cinere switched his lightsaber off at just the right time to avoid cutting himself or the other man in half, and fell on his back on top of a pile of rubble. He tried to get up, only to find that there was a massive weight holding him down. For a brief moment, he worried whether the cave ceiling had fallen down on him and he was going to suffocate or starve to death in here. Then, the weight shifted and he realized what it was.

The man had fallen on top of him. Again. This time, he was laying down on Cinere so that they were chest-to-chest--if one did not know any better, they would assume this was just the beginning of foreplay. That thought in mind, the Sith found a burst of strength from within himself and slithered out and up, on his feet in an instant. He had no idea what diseases this stranger had, and all this prolonged physical contact was making him wonder if he'll have to go get checked for AMS later.

"Check this tunnel!" came a voice from the distance, its echo bouncing across the walls. Cinere sighed and extended his arm out for the man to take to help him get up.

"I don't think they care about Kab Shon or any pendant or who is a Jedi and who isn't," he remarked. "So unless you want to take on half the kriffin' planet on your own in a 4 by 4 meter space, I suggest we get going and argue later."

A tentative ceasefire. Not in Cinere's nature at all, but these are special circumstances.

Emryc was caught off guard by the saber, but as someone that was on par with the Sith Empress when it came to strength, he was unlikely to be taken out so easily. The hum was all he needed to hear before the other man would find himself suddenly immobile and unable to move his blade further. However, none of that mattered as they were sent tumbling down a second later, crashing down to the level below.

The half Sephi was beyond infuriated at landing on the idiot once again. Part of him had been hoping he could simply crush the man under his weight, but he proved to be quite resilient. Unlike the gutter the other man’s thoughts ventured into, Emryc had no such thought. He simply wanted to hand the moron over and get back to his artifact hunting. When the man moved to get up, Emryc rolled off and allowed them both space.

Emryc was in a crouch, hearing the people outside that were still chasing them. The half Sephi couldn’t exactly argue with fake Kab’s logic. He was quiet for a moment as he listened, his Sephi ears being put to use in a crisis.

“Two outside of this wall,” He listened intently before pointing ahead, “One of them over there.”

Emryc rose to stand as much as he could with his height, turning to the side to point down a tunnel, “That way,” He said, his eyes narrowing slightly, “You go first,” He wasn’t going to turn his back on a man that pulled a saber on him. With luck, they could come across a wall that had no one on the other side of it and blow it open. Being outed as Force users meant they could fall back to their strength at the opportune moment.

The air tinged with tension as the two rose, the man apparently agreeing with Cinere. They would collaborate, for now, which was good for him because the man was clearly a powerful Force user. Whether he was in the presence of a Sith Lord or not was still hard to tell, though he was hoping he wasn't.

He could hear the people on the other side of the wall, walking and stumbling about. The mob was surprisingly quiet down here, probably paralyzed by fear. Cinere turned to look where the man pointed and took a few steps that way before the man could even command him to go first. He had no problem charging into danger and turning his back on the stranger, because he knew that if he wanted Cinere dead, it would happen.

They headed deeper into the cave and Cinere found himself crouching to pass through. He was curious to see how the hulking man could fit through the small tunnels.

Emryc was having a tough time almost immediately. His massive frame was not suited whatsoever for going through small tunnels. The alternative option was to go the other way and pop out right where everyone was gathered. At a certain point, the other man squeezed through and there was no way Emryc was going to fit. He sighed, watching as notKab disappeared.

“See anything?” He called out to the other man.

The half Sephi was only going to wait for a few moments for an answer before he used the Force to blow the tunnel open wider. He knew it was a bad idea, but desperate times called for desperate measures. There would be a soft rumble as the ceiling of the tunnel began to crumble.

“Gogogo!” He shouted at the other man, both of them having to bolt it down the passage in order to avoid being crushed under the collapse.

Cinere heard the voice of the other man through the small tunnel, his words echoing off the walls. He turned to look around him. It was pitch black but he reached out through the Force, feeling the terrain.

"Small chamber that leads down to a lake," he replied. A moment later, the cave rumbled and a sound akin to constant explosions rang out. Cinere let out a loud string of profanity as he was showered with dust, and he took off. There was no way but down.

The floor gave under his feet as he jumped down into the lake, his impact with the water reduced by the rocks below him. More rained from above, and he took a deep breath as his head went down under water. He opened his eyes and swam through a tunnel underneath, not stopping until he saw nothing above.

He took a deep breath in as he broke the surface of the water in another chamber. He made his way to a beach, still hearing the rumbling from the other side. The cave here was relatively sturdy, at least, so they wouldn't have to worry about the ceiling caving in. He turned to see if the other man had arrived already.

He wasn't even sure if the man would arrive at all. He'd been caught in quite a pinch, having to blow open the tunnel to get through and getting showered in rocks. He would have then had to swim the way Cinere had, but that wouldn't be much of an issue.
