Open as a unique way of obtaining some faction fleet assets.
  • Please observe a 48-hour posting window from the Storyteller (DM) post. One post per round per character, please.
  • There are 10 Lots to bid on, with the contents of each Lot being secret until it is time to bid on it.
  • Since this is a blind auction (i.e. nobody knows what others bid), bids are represented by d100 rolls. The higher the roll, the higher the bid. You do not have to bid on a given item.
  • Your character has a pool of SIX (6) d100s to spend throughout this thread. Your character can roll as many of your remaining d100s for a single Lot as they choose, with the highest number rolled representing your bid for the round. If you win the lot, the number of d100s you rolled on the Lot will be deducted from your pool. If you do not win a Lot, the dice rolled are returned to your pool. Once you have rolled your dice for a Lot, you cannot change your bid. You may not combine your dice pool with that of other characters.
  • Please put the results of your roll(s) in a Spoiler at the bottom of your post, and observe the blind nature of the auction (no peeking at others' rolls, please!) It is recommended to roll dice on the site for this same reason as Discord is more public, but either method is acceptable.
  • In the event of a tie, players will roll one more d100 (not deducted from their pool) to determine a winner.
  • There is NPC opposition from indie planets. This is represented by two individual d100 rolls representing other bidders each round.
  • DM is @SlagathorTheUnknown. Any questions? Please ask.
  • Rules/processes are subject to change at the DM's discretion since this is a new system that's being tried

After the events on Ruusan...

Gem Laheli could hardly contain his excitement; he was about to become very, very rich. The traveling Bothan salesman had managed to convince some Mid-Rim planets, far away from the Sith and Kilik threats, to capitalize on the seller's market by putting up some of their unwanted/mothballed warships for auction. And as the auctioneer and organizer of this event, Gem was well positioned to take a very healthy cut of the profits.

The models he had to sell today were older and less powerful than the massive Sith ships or the modern ISC fleet, and the Bothan didn't expect the well-armed New Republic to be interested; but he was nonetheless convinced that there would be no shortage of interested buyers. The FWA was always looking for ships, and word had even reached his perceptive ears that the Hutts might wish to upgrade their fleets. Even some independent planets had sent representatives today, no doubt nervous about the events of Ruusan. The Bothan had a wide network, and he'd even leaked some rumors to select buyers in order to drum up interest*.

"Welcome, welcome!" Gem said, spreading his arms wide and smiling as participants continued to join; many via holo, it seemed. It was amazing how methods of doing business had changed practically overnight, but the Bothan would get his money no matter how the auction was attended. "The first of ten Lots will be revealed shortly, after which the first round of bidding shall commence. Thank you for coming!"

*IN YOUR ENTRY POST, PLEASE ROLL 1D10 AND PUT IT IN A SPOILER FOR DM REASONS (this represents a rumor your character has come across pertaining to what will be up for auction)*

Victoria had heard of this 'auction' through the usual looser sources that one might come across. Was it shady? a little, was it risky? Of course, but the senator felt obligated to put her hand in the ring, so to speak, and source whatever she could for the FWA.

Fortunately, as Senator of Gannaria, she had a small discretionary budget at her disposal that would allow her to bid on whichever ships she felt was appropriate. If she was being honest, anything with a working drive and weapons would fit the bill, but she was hopeful of landing something decent.

Putting on a firm poker face, Victoria walked into the auction room with her pair of personal security, and made her way to the bar for a quick drink or two before the events began. She wondered if she'd have a chance to speak with any of the attendees, to try and figure out what they might be after and what competition there was for the ship she had in mind herself.

It was only a matter of time before things kicked off, and to be honest, she was a little worried about how they would play out.

One of the best ways to make sure that you got what you wanted without being seen for who you were was to simply not look like who you were. Godric Mand was a Jedi Knight who had a lovely head of bright blonde hair and some very striking eyes - the person he was currently disguised as had neither.

Instead, Godric had gone overboard with the preparations, wearing a perfectly fitted bald cap and make up designed to make himself look like a middle aged bald man - neither of which were true but it didn't matter. He wasn't Godric Mand right now - no, right now he had entered the Auction as Austin Repple, Jedi Knight and representative of the Order and their allies.

Better than Austin Repple, Jedi Knight, be seen and known than Godric Mand, Jedi Shadow under probation.

Either way, he was disguised but he was still representing the Jedi Order and he was eager to see what they could buy. While not rich, the Order had some capital and it had some goods to trade - even raw materials found on space-bound missions could be put up as payment after all.

Leaning forward against the bar, 'Austin Repple' ordered a drink.

"Corellian Sky - you guys donate to the Corellian Relief charities, right?"
he asked the bartender in a thick Corellian accent before he nodded to someone else at the bar, "Senator."

Gem kept his winning smile and gregarious attitude on display as much as possible, initially disappointed with the current turnout but refusing to let that quash his spirits. The event was being livestreamed anyways- certain to draw in viewers and potential bidders- and those with money sometimes liked to show up fashionably late to flaunt their importance; it was all part of the game of being wealthy.

Speaking of which, it was time for Gem to start making money.

"Esteemed guests!" the Bothan's voice, captured by an over-the-ear microphone, would be clearly audible. "Welcome to auction today! I am your host, Gem Laheli! Thank you, thank you for joining me today. I promise it will be worth your time." Gem flashed his award-winning smile for the guests and the cameras. "For those of you joining us from afar, fear not! You will still be able to participate as if you were here with us in person, so without further ado, let's introduce the first Lot!"

A smattering of applause- aided by some subtle sound effects through the speakers- accompanied a fast-changing holoprojection at every bidding station that rapidly cycled through dozens of ships before slowing down and stopping. Gem smiled again as the Lot reveal was met with oohs and applause. He'd chosen this one to be first after hearing the reports out of Ruusan.

"Our first Lot today consists of three (3) Raider-Class Corvettes, famed for their anti-starfighter capabilities!" he announced, noting with satisfaction that there seemed to be more than a little interest from several attendees nearby Ruusani space. "The kiliks llike their shardships, and these can turn them into even smaller shards quite rapidly!" The Bothan knew that the Corvette's small crew requirements would also be appealing to smaller planets.

"Bidding closes in 5 minutes!" he said, and the event began.

Yossk had decided to attend the bidding virtually, he was currently busy with leading the defensive fleet. The red alert from Russan had not been lifted, yet news had reached him that the assault fleet was shredded. His father had yet to return, so he was de-facto Senator too. That allowed him to move in and see if he could rebuild their fleets... he hoped.

Gambling was his strong suit, nor did he enjoy it. Yet right now he had to play this game of chance. These ships were perfect: small crew size, decent armament, and a good deal. Three would seem like a drop in the bucket for any well-off planet but for Dosh it would be perfect.

His initial bid was modest to say the least, as this was merely the ice breaker. He knew that there were most likely other beings here with much deeper pockets. These would have been better to hold for later in the auction, but currently he had to bite the bullet and loose these few ships. His reptilian heart sank as he had to, if he could drain others wallets (or attentions) from gathering ships later on he would. Ice breakers were almost never the true prize... so instead he lowered his bid so far that almost no one else would go lower than him.

Godric hummed a little bit as he took a sip of his drink. The Raider Class of Corvette was a lovely ship and three of them could be a boon to the Jedi Order but he wasn't entirely sure just how rich this whole thing was going to be so he made a bid but kept it really quite low. As much as he could appreciate just how good the Raider Class corvettes were...?

They had a reputation.

It wasn't fair to tar them with the "imperial" brush when so many different ships could be tarred by those same broad strokes but he couldn't help it. If it was gun-metal grey and it looked like the pointy end of a dagger then there was probably a greater than average chance that the very same class of ship had terrorized a planet in the past.

So a token bid, just to see where things could land.

It had been a tough few weeks for Hutt, and as he languished in the corner of the auction room, being ineffectually fanned by a dum-looking droid, he pondered just what he was looking to get from this event. Passing on the first round of bidding, he waited to see what came up next.

There wasn't anything particularly about the auctioneer nor the venue that had been procured, but she couldn't seem to shake a funny feeling. Perhaps it was just a healthy sense of paranoia after the events on Ruusan, but at the same time, she was trying not to prevent her from having fun again.

Victoria enjoyed the first of likely many cocktails of the night, tipping her glass toward the other gentleman at the bar before tuning in for the opening item on the list. The FWA would certainly be open to taking any second hand ship they could get their hands on, and a trio of Raider-class corvettes would fit nicely.

That being said, she was hesitant to jump right out the gate and spend everything on the first large item, and instead opted to play a little more conservatively.

She'd shortly find out if she was underplaying her hand.

This was possibly more responsability than what Hauron wanted to take on, at least for now. The young Mikkian had become a fully fledged Mandalorian warrior only a short time back. He had proved himself on Onderon in combat but he still felt like a neophyte. Despite these feelings he had accepted the invitation to this auction.

The Mandalorians that did not agree with Nox Solus, the Mand'alor or his Sith allies were scattered. Their numbers were dwindling and had come to an all time low. But unlike Nox they were not looking to accept a hand out from their enemy. Instead they would purchase the ships they needed or manufacture the warmachines themselves. If Hauron did not manage to secure any ships, they would need to move onto other methods and find alternate opportunities. Right now, the rebellious Mandalorians were severely lacking in terms of fleet assets.

Hauron sat inside the cockpit of his ship and had connected to the auction via hologram. The Solus and many of his kin were still wanted by multiple other parties. The Mikkian took note of some of the other representatives that had appeared to take part as well. The upperhalf of the armored Mandalorian would be projected into view for the others to see. His dark plates were highlighted with marks of red but the holo-projection tinged the visage a slight blue hue. Hopefully he wasn't arriving too late. His helmet showed no emotion but underneath, Hauron was a little nervous if not also excited.

He seemed to have entered at the perfect time. The first lot was just announced after an introduction from the auction host. The Mandalorian took a breath and tried to calm himself. He recognized raider class corvettes and knew a bit of how significant their capabilities could be. The Mandalorian knew that smaller and faster ships were perhaps more ideal for the renegade Mandalorians. Their fewer numbers also meant they had fewer personnel to crew the ships which helped Hauron decide on his first bid.

The initial bidding had been disappointing, and Gem was preparing himself to sell the Corvettes at a loss when a bid came in not long before the timer dinged. The Bothan's smile wasn't faked at all as he looked at the final numbers before addressing the crowd. "Distinguished guests, the first round of bidding is closed! Thank you for your participation; if you didn't win, there are still 9 Lots to go!"

@Hauron Solus would be notified that his bid was the highest, and arrangements would be made to transfer the titles and the ships to the Mandalorian. Given the tiny crew minimum requirements for the Raider-Class Corvettes, it was a simple arrangement to make.

The others who had bid (@Xorism) (@Nefieslab) would see their bids returned to their accounts while Gem began preparations for the next Lot, noting that a few new faces had joined the part. "If you're just joining us, welcome! The second Lot is about to begin. Drumroll, please!" the Bothan said; it was cheesy, but he could see some of the bidders leaning forward in their seats as the drumroll reached a crescendo and ended with a cymbal crash.

"Lot two!" Gem exclaimed, and holos of Sorosuub's Cutlass-9 Patrol Starfighter blinked into view. "A full five squadrons (60) of this workhorse starfighter could be yours!"

If rolling multiple dice, your *total* will be used instead of the highest die. Please still break down x + y = z. This method is more intuitive, but wouldn't have impacted this round's outcome.

Yossk glared down at the holo screen in front of him. Those Raiders would have been perfect for Dosh, their small crew size and the armament they had for their size was perfect. He ground his teeth softly, his lips softly parting as his brows lowered. This would be a disappointment... but other ways to find ships can be done. The Dosh need more capital craft, they need more combat vessels in general. Their offensive fleet has been entirely buckled during the surprise attack, and Yossk knew they needed to grab every single ship with weaponry and shields they could.

Fighters, thought not capital ships, are perfect. They are ancient, yet they are obviously still working. They are fast, strong, and tough. All of the fighters lost in the battle would not be replaced with merely five squadrons, but they would be the seed to rebuild the fleet. They would be useful and easily modifiable, a perfect buy. Yossk began to increase his bid, careful not to try to make it too much. Later on, these ships could be useful in another way. Selling half to regain the bid is a good investment, so as soon as he came to that amount, the reptile nodded and simply clicked the submit rune.

Losing the first round was visibly frustrating for Victoria, she tried to limit her expression, but she had hoped to get lucky anyhow. The next lot were a decent amount of older, venerable starfighters which would make a fine addition to the FWA collection, however losing this lot wouldn't be making her lose any sleep.

Victoria simply decided to let the dice decide her fate once more.

Ah rats his token offer was rejected.

Had it been for something he actually wanted, he might have actually be worried. As it was, he had put in the token offer more as a way of ensuring he was in the conversation than more genuine interest. The second lot was interesting only for the number of ships that was offered within - a full five squadrons of starfighters was impressive.

Unfortunately, the impressive elements ended there as he didn't really want to put in a bid for something that was older than the Clone Wars. Unless it was something that really stood out to him. Instead, this round, he waved the bartender back over and took another drink after ponying up the credits.

Maybe the next one?

Oh, yes.

If the bids for the first two Lots were indicative of the success of the rest of the auction, Gem was going to be a very rich man, indeed. The Trandoshan Yossk (@Olwin) walked away with the 60 Cutlass-9 Starfighters at a higher price than the Bothan had expected to sell them at.

"The Cutlas fighters are sold! Thank you everyone for your participation" he smiled, while servers monitored the area and topped off guests' heavuly-discounted drinks as needed. "Don't go anywhere, because we're just getting started!" Gem flashed his smile once again, teeth glinting in the spotlight.

"Lot three is nothing less than four (4) of the legendary CR-90 Corvettes, famed for their flexibility and hardiness!"

Another lot, another loss. There were worse people to win a collection of starfighters, so it wasn't all bad, but oh well, she thought. The thrill of gambling was something that Victoria had come to enjoy very much, and although she hadn't won anything yet, all this did was build up the excitement for her inevitable big hit!

Taking the temporary pause between lots, she returned to the bar and found the quiet fellow from before @Godric Mand offering him a nod and ordering a drink for each of them. "To better luck, eh? Cheers." She'd linger at the bar a little longer, enjoying her drink, before returning to the auction as the next lot was called up.

CR-90 Corvettes would be an ideal ship to add to the Gannarian home fleet, as little as it was. Victoria looked around to gauge the interest in this lot before submitting her confident bid. Whether she won or not, she made a mental note to make some inquires about finding some vessels herself.

He had won! Hauron could not keep the grin from spreading across his face. Thankfully his expression was hidden by his helmet’s stoic appearance and saved others from being able to see his young pleasure at being given the three Raider class corvettes.

The Mandalorian leaned in his seat so his left elbow was set on one of the arm rests while his left hand turned into a fist for his head to rest on in turn. This would make him look like he was possibly indifferent about the proceedings. The others were free to guess at who had had won the bid and the Solus was not about to let his poker face betray him. The semi-relaxed posture was midway between interest and calm.

Hauron looked at the lot for the sixty starfighters. They were capable ships and with some upgrades could even be an even match for modern day interceptors. But that would require a lot of refitting, after which there were still better small craft out there. The numbers of the rebel Mandalorians were still too few, and maintaining that many small ships when they were trying to focus on larger vessels could be a hassle.

For now he would withhold any bids on the starfighters. Maybe there would be something better that came along to supplement the attack craft. Hauron was anticipating a different ship he had heard about from the rumor mill. There was talk that the trusty Corellian model CR-90 had a few models in this auction which was partially what the young Mikkian was waiting for.

Soon enough, the auction facilitator made an announcement. The third lot was not one but four of the legendary corvettes. Those, on top of the raider class corvettes would boost the renegade Mandalorians into new capabilities. They could travel swiftly and effectively across the galaxy and out run most of the Sith, Syndicate and ‘loyalist’ Mandalorians that were flying slower and harder hitting warmachines.

The Mandalorian made his bid on the CR-90 corvettes, hoping he would earn them this time around to solidify a new fleet. It was going to cost a pretty penny but it was well worth it. But there was a chance that he would lose this bid. Now that the first few lots had been announced and some attendees had an idea of what was available and what it took to win them, they might be taking more drastic bids to earn them.

Godric hadn't cared much about the last lot but he had gotten word about the newest one and he was interested to same the least. His sources had mentioned that the CR90s would be up for auction and he was very excited when they did. These were the ships that the Rebellion had been built on after all - what self respecting backer of the Resistance wouldn't want some to go to the fleet?

Spotting the Senator coming back to the bar, he accepted the drink with a smile and a nod in return.

"One of these days people will tell me that there is No Luck and I'll believe them."
he joked in return, "But for now I think we both need some."

The CR90s came up, just like his intel said they would.

He bid and put more of an effort into it this time, though something about it did make him hold back. True, he put forth more than he had before because he was interested but he was still trying to keep something in reserve to make sure he didn't walk away empty handed later should something else come up.

The excitement of an auction like this was in knowing that more would come after all!

The bidding for the four CR-90s was very competitive, with Victoria Winterblaze (@Xorism) narrowly beating out Hauron (@Darasuum). Bidding had increased for each of the Lots thus far, however, which was exactly what Gem had hoped for. Now was the time to really start bringing home the cash.

"Sold!" the Bothan cried with no small amount of enthusiasm; trying to make his energy infectious. "Congratulations to our winners thus far. The excitement isn't over though, not by half! Lot Four (4) is the biggest ship on auction yet!" he exclaimed, hoping that it would drive larger bids. "One intimidating Gladiator-Class Star Destroyer could be yours!" The ship, being around 600m in length and given its size was really more of a cruiser, but being able to call something a Star Destroyer felt more powerful. Besides, it was well-equipped to handle confrontations with other capital ships, and had one of the best-designed starfighter hangars to come out of the Imperial Navy era.

Okay so that last lot hadn't gone his way - it was getting to be a pattern.

Instead he spotted the next lot and clicked his tongue. Godric was a Light-embracing, good boy of a Jedi but he would be the first to admit that the Empire? The old Empire run by corrupt officials and Sith?

They made the sexiest ships.

He took a look at his drink before sighing, finishing it in a single mouthful, before putting in his bid. Hopefully this one might be the one that broke his streak. The people here came to play and he was beginning to fear he'd wasted his time in attending but, Force be good, he might make that change here.

"... stupid sexy sith ships..."

The fates seem to align for Victoria this time as the results were announced in her favour for lot 3. Jumping into the air, she let out an excited cheer as her name was called before collecting herself and resorting back to her usual demeanour.

The CR-90 lot would make a fine addition to her collection, she thought. There were still opportunities to add to this heist and the next lot would be a major power spike in the plans to build a modest defensive fleet for Gannaria. A Gladiator-Class Star Destroyer would be a perfect vessel to patrol the space lanes and provide a powerful flagship for her fleet. While it wasn't entirely ideal to have an Imperial design do so for superficial reasons, there was a good lesson that she recalled, which went something like one good ship in the field is worth 10 on paper.

It was worth the shot to try again, as she gambled once more in the hopes of replicating the previous success.
