Vendora strode into the light, refusing to squint even though the sun burned from standing in the shadows for so long. She was on the rocky moon of Iktoch, a place that had recently had a surge of gladiator based combat games there. Perhaps it was because of the Empire's more relaxed views on the legality of gladiators or maybe the local Iktochi just really needed an outlet to take their anger out on but, for whatever reason, the games were flourishing in Iktoch at the moment and Vendora intended to take advantage of it. If she wanted to be Empress as her birthright and abilities made her deserve to be, then she needed to be constantly testing her abilities out and making the whole galaxy aware of who she was and what she could do.
These games were an excellent way to do all of that at once.
The arena was a stone structure and circular. The stands were filled with hooting and cheering Iktochi. Inside the arena were eight gates. Vendora had stepped out of one, elegantly performing a complicated lightsaber kata to the delight of the crowd. She had been forced to set her lightsaber on its lowest setting, so that it only gave a pulsating shock to whoever it touched. Similarly, any combatants with blasters or electrostaffs had to set their weapons to their lowest, nonlethal setting. Vendora had a feeling that Iktochi gladiator matches normally had no problem with the possibility of death but her presence had changed that. Nobody on Iktoch wanted to be around if Vendora died in the arena and they had to answer the question of what to do with a dead Old Imperial Acolyte.
As she stepped out of one of the arena's eight gates, a grizzled looking Iktochi man with an eyepatch stepped out of another gate, wielding a vibroaxe. Evidently, he was a fan favorite as his arrival was met with cheers from the crowd. Vendora began pacing, waiting to see who might come out of the other gates and join this gladiatorial free-for-all.
