DESCRIPTION
The Gladiator-class star destroyer is a heavy warship which was designed by Rendili StarDrive but manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards during the Imperial era. Designed as a middle ground between frigates like the Nebulon-B and heavy cruisers like the Victory, it was typically assigned to mid-tier systems and middle-priority sector fleets. Though commonly classified as a star destroyer, the Gladiator would actually be considered a cruiser under the Anaxes War College classification system.

The Gladiator, despite its often humble assignments, is a remarkable ship. It boasts a class 1 hyperdrive, and can reach 55 MGLT as its top speed. It carries an armament consisting of 12 dual medium turbolaser turrets, mounted to cover almost all approaches to the ship, with 10 anti-starfighter quad laser turrets backing them up. Notably, the Gladiator also boasts a pair of torpedo launchers, which are quite effective against other capital ships.

Perhaps most prominent, however, is the Gladiator's vast, efficient hangar bay. Capable of carrying up to 24 starfighters or light starbombers and 8 shuttles, the ship hosts its complement in a T-shaped hangar, with its wide main entrance located between the Gladiator's forward mandibles, and two smaller branching entrances to port and starboard, which are connected to the main bay by wide corridors that can be sealed off to create small, temporary secondary bays. In action, ships mainly launch from the Gladiator through the primary entrance, and are recovered through the sides. This creates an efficient cycle of launch, recovery, resupply/repair and re-launch, allowing the Gladiator to easily sustain prolonged starfighter engagements.

In the present day, Gladiator-class star destroyers are not anything like as common as they once were. However, they can still be found in the service of some wealthy systems and sector defense fleets, who typically use them as command ships for their frigates and corvettes, as well as their starfighter forces.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Gladiator-class star destroyers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a standard cruiser.

RESTRICTIONS
Gladiator-class Star Destroyers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.
